I had a very large pine tree taken down from the side lawn of my house this week by Bartlett Tree Experts of St Michaels MD. It was a good 80 tall, 16 or 18 at the base and for at least a couple of years, had been leaning toward the neighbors yard at about 10 or 15 degrees. While it appeared reasonably healthy (and therefore very solid) it was just a matter of time before a storm or gravity itself took it down causing lots of damage to two properties. So it had to go. Complicating matters however was that it was in the middle of a grassy lawn, surrounded by other trees, both mature and newly planted, which were important to maintain. As was explained to me by one of the four Bartlett people who took it down, the drop area was very small, not more than a 5 or 6 yard circle to hit starting from about 80 feet up. In addition to the 4 men, 3 large trucks, one with a cherry-picker, one with a giant claw to lift whole logs, and one pulling a huge chipper-shredder were required and each had to spend its share of time on the lawn.The job went flawlessly. Every twig, every branch, every log that was dropped was kept in the drop circle. The remaining trees were untouched. Each truck, for its entire time on the lawn, was kept on heavy grass-preserving mats, and once all the equipment and major debris had been removed the entire area was leaf-raked to the point that, except for the stump left as I had designated, you had to look twice to see that something had been done that day.
