If I could give over a 5 star I would. Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from but you can tell these people care. I had Sara(h)? and she was very caring and took my concerns seriously. She even helped me figure out the cheapest place for my prescription. Everyone was kind from the people at the entrance directing you where to go, to the people at check in. Will be coming back.

This review is specifically for the allergy clinic at Olin. I started allergy shots earlier this year and did not want to have to drive 30 minutes to my allergist every week to receive my injections. The allergist recommended that I take my serum to Olin to receive my injections, and my experience has been excellent. The receptionists are great and even know my name after many visits. Once you get the first bottle of serum approved, it is super easy to bring the next one. The nurses are excellent! I am terrified of needles and the nurses are so friendly and good at their jobs that I have not cried once. Most times I dont even feel the needle. I would absolutely recommend any college student that is receiving allergy shots to use Olin for their weekly injections.

I would highly recommend not visiting Elizabeth Malsheske due to her incredibly dismissive and unhelpful nature. She wasnt able to answer any of my questions or concerns or provide a potential course of action. My roommate, who accompanied me and has 8+ years in the medical industry was similarly astonished at the level of care she provided. Elizabeth Malsheske soured my first experience at Olin and Im incredibly hesitant to return.

I am baffled by the numerous negative reviews and bad experiences people had. I can not speak about how things have been in the past or what other people mightve experienced, but Olin is my primary health care provider and Ive been there many times for any issues that came up. My personal experience has been exclusively very positive. All of the staff (receptionists, nurses, doctors, lab personnel) was always extremely friendly, helpful, respectful and professional. The medical treatment and advice I received has been, as far as I can tell, completely appropriate and without any errors or false diagnosis so far.

Thought I would balance out some of the negative reviews. In my 4 years at MSU as a grad student, Ive never had a bad experience at Olin. I can almost always get an appointment with my doctor within a day or two (sometimes same day), and the scheduling staff and nurses are always very friendly. Ive had the same doctor consistently since 2017 and hes always kind, thorough, knowledgeable, and takes my concerns seriously. If theres any need for a specialist, referrals have been easy and quick to obtain. The folks in the lab are great - friendly, quick, and efficient. My only minor complaint is in regard to the length of time it takes to hear back from a nurse when using the after-hours nurse line. Another reviewer mentioned that issue as well, and the one time I had to use it, I did wait several hours for a call back. Overall, they do a great job at Olin.

I won’t be coming back here. I went in for some back pain after lifting a box & hurting an existing injury & the doctor at Olin told me to take ibuprofen & rest for 3-4 days, but REFUSED to give me a note for my work place. I ended up going to urgent care the same day & they told me I can’t be on my feet for 3 days & prescribed me meds. Imagine what would have happened if I believed the doctors at olin & continued to work on my injury. Honestly it is sad that a place that helps college students is so uncaring about people’s injuries.

If you call the 24 hour nurse line because you want to know if you should go to the clinic or rest at home and treat your symptoms yourself, be aware that you will probably not speak with a nurse anytime soon. Youll give your details to somebody who will pass them along to a nurse, who will then take over 75 minutes to call you back.I dont blame the nurse in any way for having more calls than can be responded to in a timely manner. If the service is understaffed, MSU should hire more nurses. We are *required*, as a condition of our health insurance plans, to use the Olin health center for our primary care needs. If we dont get any choice in our care, then the health center needs to improve.

My friend came in with a very red and swollen eye, and they told her it was just irritated. She went to an urgent care and she had pink eye. I went in last year with chills, body aches, runny nose, etc. and they told me it was a cold and would go away. This year I had the same symptoms and I went to urgent care and they told me I had the flu and gave me medication and I got much better. Doctors seem to hate actually doing their jobs and just want to underplay every illness. It’s dangerous and irresponsible. The receptionists are very sweet, but otherwise this place blows. If you’re an MSU student use your free Olin visits and then never go there again.

One extra star for friendliness of the staff. Avoid this place if you can. Some docs there made me I felt like I was being insane and there was nothing wrong with me, until the little symptoms they chose to ignore developed into some real issues. On top of that, I was given contradictory health suggestions by two different docs. There are also good docs there for sure but you need to test your luck to get one

Let me begin by saying DO NOT GO HERE. I busted up my knee cap last week and the nurse flat out turned me away because I did not have an appointment. I can barely walk right now, she refused to offer me a van ride somewhere else because that is unauthorized, and she also refused to offer me a van ride to the center another day. So I asked the nurse how can you call yourself a health center if you wont help a carless student get help? She HUNG up on me. Go to Sparrow; they are very friendly, will have you out quickly with some ACTUAL answers.

I have been to Olin to see a psychiatrist for more than three years now. Their psychiatry ward is solid and all of the social workers, psychiatrists, and receptionists care about clients. They always do their best to accommodate me if I need to see someone sooner than my scheduled appointments. The only downside is that it becomes difficult to see someone because they get booked up quickly during the fall and spring semesters, but they cant help that. If you feel like you are struggling, I recommend calling them right away and follow their instructions to set up an appointment with a psychiatrist. It can take up to 2-3 weeks before you will be able to see someone. (Do not wait until your mental health problems become severe.)If you need to get blood drawn, the people downstairs know what theyre doing and do a great job talking to you to try and keep your mind off of getting blood drawn. The gynecologists are nice and helpful. I cant really review the general health doctors because I havent seen them for anything besides a cold.Olin is overall good, but if you are experiencing severe physical pain, like with broken bones, I recommend going to Sparrow instead.

I went here after a fall on the ice and they said I was fine and just should take some ibuprofen. Went to the ER a WEEK later and they took an X-Ray and I fractured by cocyx and sacrum (tailbone and pelvic area) incredibly painful recovery.. thanks a lot Olin!Another time I went for strep and was sure I had it and the doctor said I was fine and refused to give me the test until I begged her. She finally gave it to me and it was strep throat, and even still she was like “well it might be negative”.. 2 days later it was positive again. Also my boyfriend went in for wrist pain and they said he was fine but turns out he has tendinitis and needs physical therapy and stop using it.. which now the healing process is longer. Two stars because I’ve also had some great experiences with some awesome doctors.. but wow I wish they understood college kids don’t just come to the doctor for fun.

Okay for simple stuff or for a referral. Would not recommend going if you have a serious illness or issue. Nurses definitely could be trained better. Often Ive had nurses be rude and unprofessional, especially when calling to ask questions about prescriptions on file. Its like they would rather not be bothered by you and its a huge inconvenience in their day to speak with you.

Zero stars for the care itself, but 2 for the very friendly receptionists/nurses.I’m a freshman, and I was just hoping to transfer over my meds from home to here. About a week into the school year, I only had about a month left of my meds, so I scheduled an appointment with psych.Let me preface this by saying that I’m FTM transgender. One of the most important medications for me is my testosterone. I’ve been on it for almost 3 years now, and I have very rarely skipped my weekly dose. I have very strong history of extreme mental illness and suicidal tendencies mostly stemming from dysphoria.2 weeks after scheduling my appointment to get my meds refilled (I called and asked to make sure I was going to the right department) I went to a psychiatry appointment, only to be told my testosterone couldn’t be refilled. They said it should be refilled by the family doctor within a few days with no issue. They set me up an appointment with the family doctor for 2 weeks later. At this point I am out of testosterone and I begin to feel sick.I go to the family doctor and he had no idea I was in for a refill as no one had told him. He then says I have no medical records of being diagnosed with Gender Identity disorder (despite me sending olin all my paperwork and also having records of being on testosterone beforehand, which you need the GID diagnosis to even get). He says I need to send in the paperwork or we’ll have to start from day one. My testosterone levels are now so low i’m on par with a prepubescent boy.I go back to the family doctor after sending in my paperwork (again) and he still refuses, saying now I HAVE to get an IUD due to my cis male partner. He says he sent out the referral form and I should be able to get that done in less than two weeks. This has been 6 weeks off of testosterone and I start cramping badly, and feeling physically and mentally exhausted due to the rapid change of hormones. The next day I get a call saying they got my doctor’s referral and want to schedule an appointment. I assume it’s the IUD clinic and make an appointment for the next week. When the paperwork is send to me via email mere hours before the appointment is to start, the appointment ended up being for ACNE, a referral I didn’t even know my doctor had written. I end up having to go because it is too late to cancel. Turns out the IUD clinic never got my referral so I now have to wait another MONTH just to get in. My hormones are completely unbalanced at this point and I can barely function. When I called olin to say I couldn’t wait that long, as my mental state was rapidly declining as my body revolted under the change of hormones, they said they couldn’t do anything and i’d just have to wait.Long story short, Olin Center roped me into multiple unnecessary appointments, lied to me, and caused me physical and mental strain. Don’t go here if you can.

It is impossible to get in contact with these people. The phone number listed does not even reach Olin and it says call failed. When contacting my doctor through the online portal that they tell you to message them through, it has taken 2 days one on occasion and now 3 days and counting on another occasion to get a response about serious and urgent medical questions! Absolutely ridiculous. Go to Sparrow Urgent Care even if it’s a bit further. This place will hurt you more than help.

DO NOT GO this place. just go to the Sparrow Urgent center nearby it will save you more time and money than going here. From engineering lab, I had big cut on my right thumb and blood was dripping down. so I walk to olin center and ask for help, what they did was 30min of check in(asking about mothers native language, etc) and another 30min of waiting while my thumb is bleeding.I thought there are is some sort of advantage as MSU student but what they do is they charge you on student account so, you do not know what to expect later(price/payment). So I just went to sparrow urgent center and everything done in 30min (check in to sutures(stitching))

PERMANANT NERVE DAMAGE!Do not go here. I got blood work done and the lady who drew my blood and most people who work in the lab are students who do not know what they’re doing.I was given an IV and she hit my nerve and now I have permant nerve damage from them. My arm is constantly hurting when I lift heavy weights above my head.I never pass out when I am getting an IV, and I frequently donate blood so I am well aware of how my body reacts to IV’s, and I passed out right away once she hit my nerve and she told me “maybe you didn’t eat enough today. This is very common” when I tried to explain to her that something was wrong.

A 1 star is being generous, but they wouldnt allow me to give them NO STARS. As a student at MSU you were allowed three visits per year without charge (unless you needed X-rays or other tests). My freshman year I went in there with what I believed/practically knew was a torn hamstring. Without X-Rays the doctor told me I had a fractured pelvis. Seriously? Without X-Rays you believed that I had a fractured pelvis? I literally went in there just so I could get prescribed some 800 mg Ibuprofen. I know people who have gotten prescribed Vicodin for being diagnosed with nothing yet they wouldnt even give me a weeks worth of Ibuprofen. My junior year I went in there because I got hit by a car a few days earlier. I was limping in and once again they refused to give me the 800 mg Ibuprofen for a week. I had bruises on my body and they said they couldnt do anything. Then I went in there in April 2013. I had attempted to give blood for the American Red Cross but they couldnt get a read on my hemoglobin level so they told me if I felt sick at all in the next week go to a doctors immediately. A few days later I went into Olin just to get some blood work and checked up. I mentioned to the physician that I had a half marathon the next day and I just wanted to make sure everything was okay. I felt a tad woozy so I thought why not get it checked up. She did the blood work and told me if there was anything abnormal they would call me immediately. She told me to stay at the clinic until the results came in. The results came in and she told me there was nothing abnormal. No more than 5 days later I get a call that they were just following up with me. When I asked if that was normal they told me that it was nothing serious to worry about. Two weeks later after the semester was over I went to my family physician and had Olin fax over the blood work the doctor asked me if they ever told me what my hemoglobin level was at and I said that they told me that it was nothing to worry about it so I took their word for it. My physician then told me to wait in the room while he made a phone call. He called the hospital (luckily it was the one he worked at as a surgeon) to get me an emergency blood transfusion the next morning. My doctor told me that in the three weeks between the two test my hemoglobin level decreased to 5.9 (from 6.1) and that I had over 3 pints of blood missing the last three weeks. My family physician could not believe that a doctor allowed me to leave a clinic knowing that my hemoglobin level was below 6.5 without telling me. My family physician told me that he does not know how I was still alive.I have had several friends that were misdiagnosed at Olin.

Mixed on olin...Ive had decent experience with the psychiatry department but as someone else here said you may have a very long wait to see them...which is not good at all if youre having psychiatric issues...I hadnt seen them in a year since i had been doing well...but was having issues again and it was a month before i could get in again after begging to be seen by anyone asap...they could only offer me a social worker visit in the interim...I had a non olin therapist that i was seeing at the time and told them i needed help with MEDS! Not talk therapy which I was already doing!..to their credit though the nurse was able to get me a refill of a med that i had taken before as a stop gap measure...their best psychiatrist Dr. Randy Hillard left a few years ago to be the medical students pysch...so for me that was a huge loss as he was hands down one of the best psychiatrists Ive ever seen.As to other services like basic physicals or minor illness issues I wasnt impressed much at all...but the phlebotomists downstairs who i think are mostly nursing students are cool...they never missed my veins and I have small veins so kudos to them. Go elsewhere if you can but if youre an msu undergrad or grad student with no other insurance you dont have much choice...I heard the moniker olin death center once and Im sad to say I dont think its much changed...not the worst but not the best either...not really saying much is it?
