PLEASE LISTEN TO THESE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! Do NOT take your animal here. We brought our dog in for vomiting and anorexia. They charged us $2500 for keeping him one night and running fluids through him.. Only to tell us the next day we had to drive him to another clinic. They told us 4 times that this clinic was expecting my dog. I drove with my dog hooked to an IV to this other clinic only to be told that MSU NEVER called. The new clinic told us that we were overcharged for what was performed on our dog (they had the records from this clinic). Also they have to redo all of the testing because our dog was misdiagnosed. The clinic they sent us to was Greater Lansing Vet clinic. They also said that in the last 3 day MSU has sent 30 pets to them.SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME!! I recommend Greater Lansing vet clinic. Since this clinic already sends half thier patients there anyway. Also I have seen major improvement in my dog.

We live in Grand Rapids and I called to see if they had a wait time. They said no. I said if I bring my dog to you in about an hour would you be able to see him? The man says yes right away. We drove an hour there. They took him back which was making me happy. Then five minutes later said we can’t see him till 4 or 5 in the morning. It was 10pm. Uhhh so I just wasted time and 1/2 tank of gas to be told you can’t see my dog. That is really rude of the man who told me there was no wait time.

Theres a reason why they have the worst ratings in Lansing.. Where do I even start? Over the course of 3 months and about 10 visits..1. They originally quoted me for $3,000.. Ended up being over $7,000, and they tried to get another $1,500 from us after that.2. Even after asking politely to change it on the sheet, every person working there (about 10 people in total we spoke directly with), would refer to our animal by the wrong gender over the course of the 3 months. Not a big issue, but paying $1,000s for expert care, youd think that someone could tell the difference between a male and female cat.3. Theres major inconsistencies with who you talk to, and the type of care they think your animals needs. Only a handful of people working there seem to actually care about your animal.. The rest seem to be salesman that are incentivized to selling you care thats not needed. The last visit we had with this clinic, we were told that the cat would get his hardware removed from his jaw, which should be a really quick and easy outpatient surgery. I waited in the parking lot for 3 hours.. Finally, called the clerk to give me a token, so that I could leave their premise, which they keep you captive at, so that I could get something to eat and drink, since I was basically roasting in the sun in a hot car.. An hour later as I drive back from eating, a lady calls me and said my cat is out of surgery and recovering, a worker will be out shortly to give you a token so you can leave for a few.. Uhm... Do you guys not communicate with each other at ALL? Im now back at the building and on the phone with them again, and this worker is not telling me Your cat was in stress, and we decided not to do the surgery today.. Long story short, we did nothing to your cat but drug him up and wait 4 hours, and here is a bill for $350. Please reschedule. After getting irate with them on the phone about what they were doing, the worker who brought my cat out said absolutely nothing, and practically through my cat carrier in the van and walked off. I later get a call from a surgeon that night, telling me the reason they didnt want to remove the hardware yet, is because they believe he should have another surgery at the same time, which would be another $900. I was told all along that this other surgery was not needed..This place is an absolute nightmare and should be investigated by the BBB. Again, there is a reason their rating is the worst in Lansing. Take your pet to someplace where they care about your pet, and more importantly, care about YOU. This place is operated with either no, or very poor management, and has the corporate mentality of taking your money, rather than offering an honest service service.

The vet saved my dog, however, their staff was very unprofessional and treated us like we did not understand what was happening with our dog. We asked them multiple times to send our dogs records to his oncologist and they would not. We got a call days later asking if they could send the records, at which point I stated we asked you to do this a week ago. The person in records rudely told me that wasn’t the case. They are disorganized and not pleasant to deal with during a very stressful time

The Doctors are very nice here although someone I spoke to at the front desk over the phone was very rude I wish I could tell you guys her name . I went in as an emergency for my cat and got a call about the bill before I left although paying the bill is not a problem.I knew it would be a bill of course. I just wasn’t informed of one which I should have been informed of the bill and the price for my cats visit before I went on to know whether or not I’m able to pay before I leave or not. She told me it was “common sense” they charged $170+ for the medication but if I was informed of that I would have waited til the morning to take my cat to get the shot to treat him for only $50 that would have solved the problem within 24 hours.

We were referred to MSU Vet Clinic internal medicine by our local vet (Caring Animal Hospital). When I originally called in we were given an appointment a month and a half out. My vet told me to call every day to get in sooner, so I did. Luckily, they had an opening come up within a week and a half and I was able to take my dog in when I did. My local vet had identified a lung issue and in that time until my appointment at MSW my fur baby significantly declined. The student vet at the clinic recognized my dogs distress right away and was able to call in the attending vet. They were both very kind and caring. Unfortunately, my fur baby had to be put down that day. We spent 5 hours at the clinic. The doctors gave us our time and space, but were also very informative and patient. I truly appreciate what they did for us at the very challenging time and would recommend them to a friend, animal lover or someone who needs a specialized vet.

The folks at MSU were incredible when my dog sustained a deep cat scratch to the eye. They couldnt have been kinder or more reassuring in the midst of a very scary situation, from our time in the ER to our follow-up ophthalmology appointments. The clinicians gave detailed explanations of the injury and treatment and put me at ease, and the students who worked with my pup were professional, enthusiastic, and compassionate. I will always speak highly of our time visiting this veterinary center!

There was no respect or privacy as he went over the problems with their pet then the cost to treat. When Dr Hale came out to examine my dog I suggested we go into the exam room and he proceeded to look over my dog in the lobby then told me it would be $500-$600 to get labs and an X-ray. He was cold and couldn’t wait to throw out the numbers, like putting each person on display in the lobby with their respective price tags.I was so uncomfortable with him I paid the $150 for him to look at my dog and left. Dont waste your time if you have a sick animal during COVID - they will only do basic tests, and their basic tests cost 5x more than anywhere else around town. $1k later and Ive still got a sick cat with no diagnosis, and not even any next steps because the next step isnt being done during COVID. If you arent providing ER and specialty services, dont charge ER prices.I had good experiences in the past, and knew the price. I was expecting to come out spending $1k for a visit, (and you should hold this expectation too,) but the ONLY valid argument for their astronomical price is their comprehensive standard of care. That standard is not being provided IMO and you should go elsewhere until COVID clears up, or they reduce their price to reflect their current standard of care. I doubt theyll do that though, so you may just want to stay away. The Dr. was nice, at least. Their protections for COVID screening and distancing seemed good as well.

My husband and I are very frustrated by the delay in receiving discharge paperwork and follow-up care instructions. Our dog was discharged on Friday and we are still waiting on information to be emailed to us in regards to what medications to give, dosages, etc (2 days later and counting). Were also still waiting on antibiotics to be called in. I feel like this demonstrates a lack of caring for the canine patient. Its very upsetting to watch your dog go through being sick and know that youre doing everything you can...but are at the mercy of others to get what you need for them.

Quite disappointed with my experience with MSU. Not only were the front staff not the most friendly, I also paid top dollar for the same x-rays which required a second sedation of my pet that my main vet provided. The student doctor I saw was unprofessional and spoke down to me regarding the break, diagnosis, and expected surgical repair. The staff repeatedly told me maybe we can squeeze it in but most-likely Thrus/Fri for surgery. That would have been over a week after the break had occurred. I called multiple times about my pet. Never received a call back. Finally just showed up to pick her up, and had the staff who didnt call, act surprised that no one called. Then discussed that they scheduled surgery for Monday (after multiple calls and being told Monday was a no) and that I needed to have $2400 as a down payment when I dropped her off. At this point it was 7p on a Friday night. It is physically impossible to transfer money out of certain accounts and have it by Sunday night. The staff was not flexible and would not work with me on this, even after I requested to speak with someone about it. I was also told that MSU did not share medical records with other surgical centers but they would sent it to my main vet. This also boggled my mind. MSU will be my last resort for anything going forward ever. If you need a good emergency vet Blue Pearl in Grand Rapids has been wonderful for me and see Animal Surgical Center in Flint if your pet needs surgery. Both had better service from the staff than MSU not to mention better rates.

The two stars are for the fact that I felt the staff was easy to communicate with and promptly in touch about the state of my cat when I left him overnight. Everyone seemed very friendly. I am not in a position to make absolute judgements about this place. I just wanted to make sure I shared my particular experience. Overall, this was a very unpleasant experience for my cat, to put it lightly. I am now carrying a great amount of guilt for rushing him here in the evening after he had not eaten for 24 hours, was lethargic and very dehydrated. When the staff kept implying that he was very aggressive I was a bit surprised, as hes usually more on the timid and terrified end. He deals with a lot of anxiety, but Ive never seen him act the way the staff described. They had to heavily sedate him in order to get him to cooperate. I wish I would have listened to my gut and not allowed them to keep him overnight, but I was worried about him as he does have a preexisting heart condition. They recommended he stay for two to three days, but I picked him up the next morning due to bad feelings. We got in with my primary vet the following day and she was shocked that they sedated him to such a degree knowing the particular issues he has with his heart. This all broke my heart and made me feel quite upset. She was also disturbed by the fact that they wrote that he is a very aggressive cat on his paperwork, which again is behavior Ive never seen in him. Hes only seen this vet one other time, so its not like he was exactly comfortable with our primary care vet either (just not aggressive). I will say, though, that hes never been in a situation like the emergency one where hes taken away from me for a very long time with no sign of my return, left overnight in a busy room with a ton of animals, received a catheter etc. Perhaps this is a unique situation for his personality, but overall I am just left with bad feelings about this place. It has made me feel incredibly irresponsible as a cat mom, as I wish I would have waited to call my vet the next day and see if there were any same or next day appointments, or just asked for him to receive fluids so that we could take him home and then proceed accordingly. It would have saved him this trauma and life-risk. My vet was easily able to confirm that he was most likely just sick from something he ate or interacted with outside. And that he has fleas (Im not sure how MSU didnt catch this). All he needs are subcutaneous fluids right now and an appointment with a cardiologist to check on the status of his heart stuff. My cat didnt need to be in the hospital for three days straight getting heavily sedated while at risk and without emotional support. I shudder at the thought of what his time would have been like there if I allowed him to stay for another day or two. You live and you learn. Use your best judgement and always listen to your gut when it comes to your babies. I knew pretty immediately that I should have proceeded differently. That one is on me. But now Im left with wracking guilt, and a huge hole in my pocket.

The Michigan State University Vet Clinic is the best place to take your pet if theres something wrong that your usual Vet doesnt deal with very often. Its a teaching clinic, so your appointment will start with a student exam and then the Doctor will come in to complete it. Bad when youre there for an euthanasia and theres nobody around when youre ready to have them come in. When you have to shout for almost twenty minutes for someone to come in with your pet in its last moments. Shameful. They only get two stars because if you have enough money they can provide services unavailable elsewhere. But they only like to have enough animals that they can effectively teach with without getting overloaded, so the price is very, very dear. Mind that if you head here for an emergency service they will quote you for twice what the actual service will cost, and tell you that youll have to pay at least half up front. I took my cat here for the I-131 radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism, and 6 months out, she is cured, so that is wonderful. But I am not thrilled with how things were handled administratively or medically.I sent in my cats bloodwork 3 weeks in advance as requested, only to drive 2 1/2 hours with a stressed, sick cat to be told they couldnt do the treatment based on her borderline numbers. I was still pretty sure her symptoms matched hyperthyroidism, and I discovered later that bloodwork isnt the best diagnostic available for hyperthyroidism, but I was fine redoing the bloodwork to confirm. What bothered me is they had this information weeks ago, yet my cat was put through a stressful journey for no reason. (Also I got charged a considerable amount for a visit that didnt need to happen and I had to miss work.)We redid the bloodwork and this time it did confirm hyperthyroidism, so I made a second appointment with the person who told me he results over the phone. I called a few days ahead to confirm, and they had zero record of my appointment, which I find worrisome. In this time, I did a LOT of my own research, reading papers and articles by feline endocrinologists, and I discovered theres a scan that is very accurate for diagnosing hyperthyroidism (which could have been done the day of our first visit instead of sending us home!), and it also helps tailor the dosage. I was told MSU, like many places, does not calculate dosage, and uses the one dose fits all approach. Which does usually work, but a calculated dose still works better.I requested this but they would not offer it, so I requested a lower dose (based on the literature and my cat) and they did agree to make an exception. So, regarding the procedure itself, they did an adequate job. I did not get the impression that they were interested in updating their procedures, instead relying on the way theyve always done things, which I dont think is a great way to practice medicine. But I can understand that, even if I dont agree. What I really dont like is that they put my cat through unnecessary stress when she is already sick. I also worry that they are more reliant on numbers than assessing the animal in front of them holistically, although in my case it worked out in the end. And Im really concerned that my appointment was lost.I told all of this to MSU when they asked in a survey and I received no response.

While weve always been very happy with the care our cats have received there, the receptionists over the phone have been problematic as of the past couple years. Theyre almost always rude and condescending. This treatment by the receptionists is getting old, especially after the many thousands of dollars weve shelled out over the years, and therefore we may start taking our cats elsewhere for routine check-ups. Weve come to hate having to call them... On another note, recently we called to confirm the time of an appointment for our cat that was made over two weeks prior, and they had no record of it. Option #3 take your animal home to die, but still pay the 135 dollar exam fee plus whatever else they say they have done to your animal.DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!A licensee who is to work under the supervision of a fully licensed veterinarian informed me my dog would die if not put into surgery immediately, with no veterinarian present. I was forced to come up with 1,000 dollars for them to keep him hydrated for 6 hours so I could take him to another vet who charged me the same amount to do the surgery MSU charged me to keep iv fluids in my dog.It is completely disgusting how badly MSU needs money that they put people in this kind of position. I would have given 0 stars if I had the option.

Our dog was bit by another dog and we werent offered to just clean them would and take him home..instead to give xrays.blood work..and anything else they can add on to make a $1600 Bill for a little bite wound. It reminds me of the oil change places that try to stack items on your bill. Its a shame because parents pay 50k a year for their kids to be taught here then they scam the hell outta customers on top of it. Disappointed like many other reviews because of the price gouging tactics.

My beloved cat of 15 years was toward his end. During the worst time of my life I came here for the first time and my baby was treated with love. Dr. Schlesener and Patterson are amazing wonderful people and I recommend this place to everybody.Their expertise mixed with compassion and kindness helped guide us to what was best.Ive had problems with Miller Animal Hospital during this difficult time, talking to a doctor Reynolds(or something similar, may be misspelled) who was laughing with coworkers, I couldnt get her to even pay attention to me as Im telling her he was dying.Im so relieved I found this place, wonderful treatment from people who are in this business for the right reasons. Also have a social worker there who is also an amazing caring woman. If you need a place that will show your fur family members love and the best carethis is the place.Adrianne Lareau

First you should know that this is a clinic where students are learning their trade and may still be learning bedside manners and customer service. Any complaints about that aspect should be directed to the school so that those concerns can be addressed and improved upon.We have used their services twice now and have nothing but good to say about the clinic. Our first experience was an emergency where the dr reached out to a colleague in another state for input on some X-rays for an ailment that his colleague was expert in. He went the extra mile to confirm his diagnosis and our cat made it through and we were very happy.Today we picked up our pup after having arthroscopic spaying done. Again, top notch care and service from pre eval to out patient. They communicated the post op care to us with detail and took the time to answer all of our questions. The final bill for the procedure ( a very specialized surgery requiring a specialist) was not surprising and I feel that it was money well spent for the heath of our dog.

MSU Vet Clinic is awful! Every time Ive used their services they give me some dire death related illness with one of my animals. Ive brought a kitten there and was told by one of the students that my kitten had feline AIDS and would die soon and if he was around other cats hed infect them, so I ended giving him back to the humane society, and it was not easy, I loved that kitten! A year or so ago I heard from a Vet that she was erroneous about what she said and explained it to me, as it turns out he was not a threat of death and he was not going to infect the rest of my cats!!! Hurt! Anyway, fast forward, a dog, again hes dying, he was like 3 years old at the time. Needless to say I was skeptical and took him immediately to his vet on Monday and he was fine, he had pulled a muscle in his lower back, needed a pain/relaxer and a few days rest, good as new. Wow! Lastly, took our rabbit to them when they used to service 911 calls, and they said the same thing, hes dying!! Look I know they are all learning, but there is a senior (PhD) staff member who has experience to help them with the diagnosis, it still came back with death. Again, took the rabbit to the his Vet (Williamston Cedar Creek Vet. Clinic=AMAZING!!!) and it was nothing serious. To top it all off with all of these hassles and near scares, erroneous conclusions they charge waaaay too much for their services! Wed walk out paying at least $200-400, plus their regular Vet with another $25-150 (which is reasonable). I do not believe this school is competent in their analysis and they are very nonchalant about it like they KNOW what they are talking about, its insane and the price is so ridiculous that it makes them look like con artists. Unless you have too, I would not take my animals to MSU, Id wait if you can to take them to their regular vet, if that is not possible, save money to be able to pay for it cause it costs a lot to get the wrong diagnosis.

I was skeptical reading all the other reviews on the place as I had to get emergency treatment on my cat during the weekend. Not many vets are opened and none were opened at the time on a Saturday to get my cat treated for an eye infection. Although there was a wait (LIKE ANY WHERE) they got to my cat, and took care of him. You have to remember this is a College facility so many of the employees are STUDENTS. And yes it came out to be pricy but no medical procedures are cheap anymore. And for pets it’s worse. I wouldn’t recommend it as your first option since having a personal vet is better but if you’re out of options. MSU is reasonable. Thank you for your help!

My whole experience here was a nightmare. So, they charged me a little under $10,000 for surgery for my dog and a few days monitoring, discharged her too soon and I had to bring her back, then discharged her again and she was still sick after. Their only advice was to bring her back again, when I said I couldnt pay anymore, they wouldnt talk to me again. They gave poor aftercare advice (said she didnt need a special diet when we asked, or specify that she needs strict bedrest, and said she didnt need to take her antibiotics when I called and said she was giving us trouble taking them; turns out I needed to buy a pill shooter). She was sick because the perforation in her stomach they were supposed to fix reopened, and she got an abscess and was infected by streptococcus and coccidia while she was there (which would have cleared up with the antibiotics they said she didnt need). So, next I took her to OVRS in Bloomfield Hills. She needed another surgery there, but Im so glad I didnt take her back to MSU. If you have a real emergency, please go to OVRS because they treat you with respect and not just like a dollar sign. They actually know what theyre doing, call to check on your pet, give great aftercare advice, send get well cards, etc. Shes finally recovering now. Even if I lived in Lansing, Id still make the drive to OVRS if I had a pet emergency. I wasnt going to review MSU at all and waited over a month to do so, but I honestly dont want anyone else to go through what we did. Sorry.

I gave MSU one star because I wasnt able to rate them any lower. I took my dog to emergency services when she was sick, but still very alert. When I returned after leaving her there for 14 hours she was comatose and barely able to breathe. I ran my dog to my personal vet who fixed her after having her for only 6 hours. MSU wasnt even able to give me a proper diagnosis and my vet, upon reviewing my dogs discharge papers, said that MSU ran a bunch of unnecessary tests which did nothing to help her. MSU even charged me $400 to deworm my dog when shes already on a monthly preventative. In short, I was charged $1,100 for MSU to do nothing but cause more harm to my dog. I would not have worried about spending the money had they been able to help my dog, but instead they only hurt her more.MSU has to be the worst experience Ive ever had and Ive had dogs my entire life. Definitely avoid going there at all costs!

I have taken my dog in to the MSU Vet Clinic four times in the last year. He suffers from severe allergies, and was prescribed a treatment plan from the dermatology department. These treatments were not as effective as we have hoped for, but we will continue to pursue options to give our dog the best life possible. If there was another option for my pet, I would certainly take him elsewhere.Every time I need to call and make an appointment, it is a giant headache. The receptionists are rude and slow. They always seem to be insensitive to the reasons why people bring their pets to the clinic. Scheduling an appointment is a nightmare, and recently the trend has been calling less than 24 hours before an appointment to see if I can move my appointment because there is a schedule conflict. The wait times are out of hand. Even with an appointment, the wait time is astronomical. Plan on spending at least 3 hours here for simple procedures, testing, or check-ups.Be prepared to pay. As other reviews have mentioned, it is not likely that you can leave without shelling out at least $100, in my experience it comes closer to $400 each time.TLDR; If you have other options, pursue them.

I dont usually write negative reviews. But I had such a bad experience with the Veterinary Medical Center at MSU that I felt I have to make an exception in this case. A little over a year ago, my ex-roommates cat injured his paw. Since it was at night during the weekend, I took him to MSU. Everything seemed to go fairly normally--at first. I was sitting in the waiting room, alongside my ex-roommate, reading a book about different cat breeds, and waiting (I thought) for the vet to examine the cat. Imagine my surprise when I looked up and saw a cop standing in front of us, shining a flashlight in our faces, and asking if we had been drinking.I am a fairly light, occasional drinker, and I hadnt had anything to drink that night. My ex-roommate is a paranoid schizophrenic, and takes anti-psychotic medication prescribed by a doctor to control his condition. He hadnt had anything to drink either. Neither of us was acting bizarrely in any way. I immediately got into a confrontation, both with the cop and with the veterinary assistant who had called the police. She could have spoken to me about why my ex-roommate seemed to be a little bit out of it, and I would have explained the situation. All I got from either the cop or the veterinary assistant was a blizzard of BS, and the veterinary assistant acted in a very demeaning and condescending way.To make matters worse, they left a clamp in the cats leg (which I didnt discover until we got home), and charged me an outrageous fee. I have two cats of my own, which I dearly love, and which occasionally need emergency veterinary care. But I absolutely dont ever want to deal with MSU again. Is there an alternative for after-hours veterinary care?

$150 just for walking in the door, $300 for pain meds and a cast. So horrible and expensive. My dog was hit by a car and dislocated his leg, but I didn’t know that’s all it was and needed to get him in somewhere fast late at night. The vet I dealt with tried to convince me into gettimg so many tests that are pricey and truly unnecessary considering his condition, after he stopped crying and no longer looked as though he was in terrible pain I decided to pull him and wait to do X-rays at his primary vet. So unbelievably unnessecary, like most MSU businesses they just want to suck everything they can out of you. If you can hold off a few hours to get to get to your usual vet, do it!

I have nothing but amazing things to say about MSU Small Animal Clinic. I have taken my dogs in numerous times and they have gone above and beyond for us each time. They are extremely thorough and I love how the Drs will sit you down and explain the treatment options. We’ve had numerous issues with other 24/7 clinics not fully assessing our dog and once it almost lead to him dying. We went to MSU for a second opinion and they properly treated him. Now we only go to MSU because we know they’re reliable. I called with some concerns and the Dr. (oncology dept) was adamant about seeing us same day – he rearranged some appointments to get us in asap. It’s apparent that they really care about your animals and will do whatever they can to help.

You will find that patient care comes in a very distant 3rd place to billing and taking care of staff and students. What does this mean to the patient, in our case they killed our dog which could have been easily avoided if they had paid attn to symptoms and gave a damn. One Dr. who was running our dogs case actually quit treating him and didnt even let us know so he went without antibiotics for month which most likely would have saved his life. He had been on antibiotics for pneumonia and we sent x rays to this so called Dr. which had been prearranged with the Dr. for review. Although the Dr. admitted getting them she decided not to read them or to tell anyone she was not going to so we thought our dog was ok until he collapsed again then we found out the Dr. purposely had not read them and a month had gone by with the pneumonia festering in him without any antibiotics. This is beyond cruel. You dont like me for whatever reason just say so I would have taken him somewhere else but this Dr. did nothing and said nothing. Go to Ohio State or University of Wisconsin they are ranked tied for 5th in the nation MSU is not in the top 11.

We recently had our dog into the MSU small animal clinic for surgery on his leg due to an injury that completely tore his ligament and relocated a few of the smaller bones in his foot. A lot of other reviewers on here post about the cost for bringing your pet here. Is it expensive? Yes. Is that what you signed up for when you decided to have a pet be part of your family? Yes. The staff at MSU was more than friendly and truly cared for the health and wellbeing of our dog. We were given very clearly explained options for treatment and were called the morning of, as they were going into surgery, immediately after, and later that night with status updates of how he was doing. While it is expensive - you get what you pay for. I would not hesitate to bring either of my dogs back here or recommend other family and friends to bring theres. Excellent work MSU!

Peerless, they are simply the best. MSUs vet school has long been the the best at what they do and the hospital is staffed by the professors and students of that program. It is expensive, at least twice the cost of a regular vet, but in our f-d up capitalist system that is the way it works: got to pay for the best to get the best.I have gone to them for emergencies only. Theyve given treatment suggests and even helped find the best local vet who could do those treatment.Ive interacted with many of their docs and staff over years and have never been anything but impressed and proud (I work at and have a degree from MSU).

Our first visit to the MSU vet dermatolofy clinic was very good. Dr Petersen spent a lot of time with us going over our dogs medical histroy and troubleshooting his allergy symptoms. There are alot of negative reviews on here concerning the prices of service at the MSU clinic. I was a litte surprised myself to see the total cost of our bill at the end of our visit - but you do have to keep in mind that this is a teaching pet hospital and generally with teaching hospitals come steeper fees - much like UoM in Ann Arbor. We thought the price of our visit to the MSU vet clinic was around what we normally spent in Ann Arbor prior to relocating to this area. If you are put off by the cost charged at one clinic, logic would follow that you would find a cheaper clinic.

The staff was very friendly but be prepared to bring at least $1000 in cash, check or credit card or have extremely good credit to be able to apply for care credit to cover the costs at this center.I brought my dog in for a breathing issue as if something were logged in her airway. Was told she has an enlarged heart, a heart murmur on the verge of possible heart disease and no visual signs of anything logged in her throat as they only did an xray from the back of her skull to mid abdomen. I was told they could do a diagnostic scoping for $1500 and even more $ for removal of anything lodged in there and offered to see the cardiologist for even more testing and more $$.I was denied care credit which is no fault of them but if my dog was dying, without the $ right up front, I would not have been able to have her be seen or treated further. This was my first experience visiting this place and will be my last. The costs to take your animal here are far too much and with no resolution. $350 & hours later my dog is no better off and now I have fear that she could be dying due to heart disease that hasnt been confirmed. I only went because her normal vet was closed and we were very concerned for her well being.I will be taking her to her vet where they allow us to do payment plans and costs are far more resonable.

The staff here is not ALWAYS friendly. Our cardiologist had suggested we get our puppy spayed before her heart disease progressed. I had a hard time finding someone who would do the surgery on a cardiac patient, so I decided to go with msu for their cardiologists and anesthesiologists. The soonest appointment was in 5 weeks, so I scheduled it, then called both our vets to have send her charts over. The Thursday before her Monday surgery (October 1st at 4:30pm) I called msu to make sure they had all her info (since sometimes faxes get lost in the mix). After being put on hold for a few minutes, the phone was answered. I said Im just calling to confirm that my cardiologist faxed over my puppys echo and anesthesia procedure. The women was short and sounded irritated. She put me on hold for another minute, then came back and told me, yes, they have her info. I asked if she knew weather or not they wanted to do another full cardiac work up (since it would cost us and additional $350-400, on top of a $300 spay.) I was met with an extremely rude and short attitude. I dont know, youll find out the day of your appointment.Okay.Then she hung up on me!Guess what! They didnt have her info at all! They only had our primary physician chart. Drove and 1.5 hours Monday, showed up 15 minutes early, and was taken into an exam room 30 minutes AFTER her 9am appointment time! The dr on our case was soooo nice, and really seemed like she cared about our dog, but was dumbstruck when she found out she was a cardiac patient on 3 different medications. So we drove all the way home, thinking we would pick her up the next day. (We werent given the option to stick around until she could be seen by cardio)We get home and get a call from our lovely dr saying that they could and would do the surgery, but she and the cardiologist had serious reservations. She really helped us with deciding against it, and Im grateful for that. They also had the chance to take us for another $300 with a full cardiac work up, but instead reaffirmed that our local cardiologist was doing a great job.I just cant help but think if the woman on the phone would have listened and been more patient (and maybe noticed our freaking address!) that maybe we would have only had to spend 3 hours driving that day, instead of 6!If you NEED their services, they are well qualified decent physicians. BUT! If you can avoid coming here, just opt for somewhere else. I wouldnt call them organized or prepared. It was a crazy stressful busy day for us as a family. Ugh!
