This place means well in being able to allow parents to see their children during CHIPS petitions, divorces, custody battles, etc, but they have many flaws they need to work out. First, they hire many young people either in college or fresh out of college who have no children of their own, but are expected to document the parents interactions with their children and deem if the parent is fit enough to be around the kids. I know that as a parent, I do things a lot differently now than I thought I would have before I had kids. A lot of bad reports are written by LSS staff because of things being taken out of context or the supervisor wasnt paying attention and documented something incorrectly, making it look bad on the parents. For example, one worker named Tammy is always on her phone, ordering things online or talking to somebody, throughout many of our visits. One time, Lawanda came and knocked on the window to our little room for what seemed like 2 minutes, trying to get Tammys attention. Finally, NY daughter looked at Tammy and said Uh.. Someones at the window.. How can she write any type of report on us when she wasnt paying attention to anything but her phone the entire time? Most of the supervisors we have had are on FB during visits too.. Must be nice to get paid to sit on FB and write bad reports that destroy families. Not to mention, the rooms are tiny and always feel like 900 degrees. Now, add my family of 5 plus a supervisor, and thats our weekly visits. Then there is a kitchen, which up until a few months ago had only one microwave. There were times we would bring the kids to the kitchen to eat and we had to wait a half hour or more for another family to finish with the microwave, so of course my young children would get antsy, but we would get a bad report for it, as parents who cant control their kids. Then, the icing on the cake happened this past October. My SO at the time had stolen my car and my phone the day before our scheduled visit. He never returned home, and I assumed he relapsed. I notified the police about my stolen car and phone, then contacted my case worker to notify her about the situation and ask her what to do in case he shows up for visit. She never replied. So I told the LSS staff as soon as I got to visit and asked that they not let my ex SO in. Well, an hours and a half after visit started, they let him in and he was high as a kite. Now remember, LSS is a locked facility, so my ex couldnt just waltz in on his own. He had to ring the bell and the supervisor goes to the door, sees who it is, and opens the door. This supervisor opened the door and let him in, even after I told her what was going on. As soon as he walked in, I could tell he was high, so I told the supervisor to get him out, which she refused. So I told him to get out. Then about 4 other supervisors flooded the room, scaring my kids more than they already were, and cancelled visit entirely. Now, going back a little, LSSs policy is if you are 15 minutes late or more for visit, the visit is automatically cancelled. Why would they let my ex in 1.5 hours late? Right after visit was ended, the police found my car and my ex a block up from the visitation center and found needles in plain view in the car and in his pockets, which he had during visit. Now, LSS wrote me a very bad report and I havent seen my kids for over a month. How is that fair when I took every preventative measure I could prior to visit? LSS was basically forcing me to either stay in the visit, right next to my ex as he was high (which is very difficult for someone new to recovery) or forfeit the rest of visit and allow my ex to hold and play with my kids while having drugs and needles in his pocket. Thats how this place works.. Destroys families under the guise that they help repair families.
