Great food! Great service! Loved the place! Definitely recommended!

So just going to say that the atmosphere, the staff, the chef, 💯! Got a lake of the woods draft, the ribeye, baked tator, salad with vinaigrette, the sushi roll of the day (spicy crab), and an app of poutine! It was some of the best food we have ordered anywhere. It was priced to match how good it was ribeye $44, sushi $14, poutine around $11, but man I will be going back tonight if they’re open! It looked unassuming from the outside mind you but we were pleased! Plus everyone was so nice, guests, staff, seemed like a hometown place, which we love to find!

The food here was literally AMAZING. It deserved more than five stars. However my server didn’t seem like he wanted me to be there. Which was disappointing. Food and service go hand in hand. GREAT FOOD!!

I loved the building and the decor. I feel like the price was quite high for the foods you received. I received the same 9 oz tenderloin for half the price the next night at a different resteraunt. The waitress was good.

Odd experience at what is considered to be the fine dining of Devils Lake. Food was delicious, no problems there. But when you are seated away from the main dining area by yourself in a bright, fly-infested area and youve just spent $100 on your 1 meal (celebrating my 40th while traveling back home and stopped here)...that is already a stomach-turner. Then I had to bring my dishes from the side room to the main dining room myself so I didnt have to try to swat flies from my food and legs. The fact that I ordered the prime rib at $39 and they overcooked it wasnt so bad because it still tasted amazing. However, I was not impressed with all of the weirdness and no offer to accommodate besides me getting to move tables while holding a plate of prime rib with au jus while walking through the main dining area. They made sure to charge me for absolutely everything, and I didnt bother to asl for accommodation because I lost my appetite by the time I moved.Too bad; this place came highly recommended but my local friends (who happened to not be in town as I was passing through) are a little more wary about sending someone over here again.

Myself and five other hunting buddies went in tonight. It was absolutely awesome. The food was amazing the service was spectacular. The little girl that took care of us was so friendly and helpful joking and laughing all the time. We had a wonderful time. If you’re going to Devils Lake this is a must see place.

We just finished our third family vacation to Devil’s Lake, and we always have to stop by The Ranch for dinner. It’s our daughter’s favorite restaurant, and we all look forward to it every trip! Our favorites are the Tater Tot Hot Dish, the popovers, jumbo shrimp, honey roasted pork loin, and the sushi poke bowl. Staff is super friendly, great service and amazing food. We look forward to many more years of amazing food on our yearly ice fishing trips! Thanks so much!

I’ve been here many times over the years. Very good food overall, but super pricey. They have their ribeye priced at $38!! I can go to other restaurants locally and feed my family for that price with equally delicious meals. We can’t afford to patronize this place any longer.

I had the filet mignon with crusted blue cheese and a red wine demi glaze.....to die for! Amazing!

Very Well maintained and nicely doctor rated. It felt a bit cramped but I probly came in at the wrong time. The server was very patient and was extremely attentive to her section.

Went one evening with coworkers to try this place that the locals were raving about. I ordered the Filet Mignon, garlic mashed potatoes and sweet chili wings. Washed it down with a Fargo Beer on tap during happy hour. Coworker ate the New York, salad and fries with a Guinness. Both steak were well prepared and cooked as ordered, medium well, rare etc. Everything tasted great and we had the full menu at the bar around 5PM on a Saturday. Service, atmosphere and food were great, as with the other reviews, the pricing is high so expect a $50 per person bill average. I have eaten $100 steak in Texas, and for where you are in the United States this beef does compare a close second by its taste and preparation. Keep up the great work and when back in the area I will revisit for take two and I would recommend. Thanks for reading.

Devils Lake has a hidden treasure! We were driving through and needed supper so we decided to stop at the Ranch Steakhouse. Wow! The decor is amazing... tasteful, classy, saloon style. Antiques and interesting items are everywhere and many of the areas are lit with fairy lights. Just beautiful! It appears that the main floor is a bar with menu available. The dining room was upstairs. I didnt notice if it was handicap accessible, but Im guessing it probably is. There were four in our group. We decided to order two appetizers due to the excessive hunger in a couple of our members. We had the popovers with honey butter and spinach queso with tortilla chips. They were both fantastic. The popovers were just a hair over baked, but still light and delicious. The honey butter was exceptional. The spinach queso was too die for! Creamy and delicious! We all ordered the knoephla soup to precede our entrees. Yum! Then came the entrees. We had one ribeye, one sirloin strip, one stuffed salmon, and one sampler platter with chokecherry barbeque sauce. The one eating the ribeye couldnt stop talking about the tenderness and flavor of the meat. He did say it might have been just a touch over seasoned, but was so happy with it that that was a very minor observation. We were also pleased with the sirloin and the sampler. The chicken on the sampler was a bit dry, but that choke cherry bbq sauce... wow! So, so delicious! The stuffed salmon wrapped in prosciutto was flaky and flavorful. I dont care for peppers and wasnt aware that there would be so many stuffed inside of it, along with a cream cheese and herb mixture, so I didnt care for the stuffing, but the salmon was delicious. We definitely didnt have room for dessert and needed to get on the road. Ill say that the only significant detractor... as odd as this sounds... was the ladies restroom. The privacy was sorely lacking. The gap around the stall doors was enormous and facing right to the door which opens onto the main foyer. Whenever a patron would open the restroom door, the lady in the stall would be partially visible. Its a very uncomfortable feeling! Overall, we loved our visit to the Ranch and left calculating the miles from our home so that we could plan another visit in the future!

Ill start out by saying that the the ranch has been a staple of mine whenever taking trips to devils lake. Past experience and food have been phenomenal. Not now! I was looking forward to tater tot hotdish as did for 3 other buddies. They are out of tater tots! I actually had a request by my wife to bring home 2 orders as well. Things happen, but a restaurant of this former caliber it shouldnt. Now one of the guys orders a steak which was ok, 3 of us order brisket. This is where it went from bad to worse. 2 pieces of warmed up rubbery brisket buried in sauce to try to make it BBQ. One of the guys actually puked when we got back to cabin it was so bad. I cant believe the one of favorite restaurants has gotten this bad

Extremely disappointed with both the level of service and the quality of the food. Was in a very large group with guaranteed the service staff of a 18% tip, unfortunately for us as the patrons this ment that our waitress did not have to work very hard at her job. For the price of a rib eye steak at $38 I expect a lot. Unfortunately I got something that had the texture of a frozen cut rate piece of beef. Our server was not attentive and when came time to pay told me she would not do any math for us to ensure all parties paid what was theyre fair share. The lack of effort put forth by here did not entitle her to the 18% she received. But honest truth had she put in any level of true service I am sure she would had received more than 18%. I guess when you are the only steak house in 80 or so miles you do not have to be good

Party of 6, service was quick, attentive and lovely. Food was absolutely amazing, the filet melts in your mouth, the au gratin potatoes were so cheesy and delicious. The gummy bear off the drink menu is an awesomely fruity surprise that goes down smoothly!

The food we had was delicious, and the service was so friendly. The environment was very nice but casual and not at all pretentious. If I lived in town, then I would be a regular here.

The food here is always the best Ive ever had. I got the mushroom bisque as a side with my meal, not thinking it would be that interesting, but it was INCREDIBLE. I think about it all the time. Also obsessed with the popovers, the steak, the shrimp, the au gratin potatoes, etc. The only downfall is that we have had a handful of less-than-great experiences with the serving staff.

My wife had the scallops which were excellent, I ordered the NY strip which was really good , the sides of grilled mushrooms and onions which accompanied the steak came from a can, not fresh... disappointing. Our waitress who had the personality of a dead fish, when asked if there was seasonal vegetables, replied with a sharp NO and walked off. We got seated in a area with no AC, when I asked if there was AC... the reply was yet another sharp NO.Other servers seems to be doing great with their customers, we could barely get the attention of ours.Out with the family for dinner overheated and sweating and found out as we were leaving other sections had AC.

Walleye entree was delicious but the poutine had been over-peppered. It may have been an outlier night. Barn atmosphere space was interesting and inviting.

Ive never been disappointed with their food or service. When you ask for rare steak or prime rib, you actually get it rare... the sign of a good steakhouse. This is the place we take visitors and friends for special occasions. An hour away, but worth the drive!

Just finished our dinner as a family! Excellent service, great atmosphere, and one of the best meals I have ever eaten! Alaskan Halibut topped with Pesto, served on White Bean Ragout was top notch!!! Definately would recommend dining here!

I thought this place was going to just be a bunch of hype but it surprised me! The service was wonderful, the staff was extremely friendly, the atmosphere was amazing and relaxed, the food was out of this world! Everything from the complimentary bread down to the perfect cook on the shrimp and asparagus was just amazing. Worth the price!And to Maddy Steele Im just gonna say this... Dont be so pretentious. Im from Georgia, Im classically trained in culinary arts, I had the best palette of my class and I worked at one of only 27 five star resorts worldwide in the kitchen and the food here just about rivals the food at the resort. Dont speak unless you know what youre talking about. North Dakotans can know good food too. Dont be such a jerk.

Pulled into town around the dinner hour on a Saturday and wanted a decent meal. Walked in just before six and we were seated immediately upstairs in the dining room. Atmosphere is rustic and quaint, but a bit noisy. The Cocktail menu was adequate and included beer wine, and well drinks. Appetizer selection was not the usual and we quickly decided on a basket of four popovers (which were incredible) and ordered our meals. The New York strip was cooked to perfection and served with a side of mushrooms. The walleye was flaky with a perfect bread crumb coating. For something different though, I highly recommend the Honey Seared Pork Loin. It was a substantial serving, well seasoned (with just a hint of heat), seared to a perfect crust and an amazing honey glaze. The sides included garlic mashed potatoes, rice pilaf and au gratin potatoes. All were good but would skip the au gratins. No room for dessert as there is that much food! Seriously good food at a fair price.

The food was ok, our server was nice to a point but he got giving the wrong info, I asked if the had prime rib, server told me they did, we finished our order and he left. He came back 10 minutes later to finally tell me they were out of prime rib, so i ordered steak. Food took about 25 minutes to get to our table, great timing. However, our server didnt come back to see if we needed refills on our drinks for half an hour, which we had needed refills 20 minutes ago, he also would walk by the hall to our table and look right at me, when i tried to flag him down he would snap his head to look away so he didnt have to come help us. Not the kind of experience that makes me want to come back and spend over 100.00 for crass service and unattentive servers...

If Royal is still there...then a icky place to eat. Kitchen is gross and carpet is sticky and smelly.

Wow! What a find. I rolled into Devils Lake at 9pm on a Friday and was expecting to have to eat at Taco Bell or Applebees when I found the Ranch. Boy, am I glad that I did! Everything was delicious and very reasonable. Staff was attentive and friendly. Even the pop music on the bar speakers was pleasantly muted. I felt like I was eating in a friends cool rec room. Very nice experience!!!

Best restaurant in Devils Lake. While that’s not exactly a major accomplishment, there are a few menu items that really are superb. Get the brisket. It’s on par with any meal you’d get at a great restaurant in a major metro.While not every menu item will ‘wow’ you, there’s no question that this is a top ND establishment.

Excellent steaks, I had a New York strip which was cooked to perfection. Ordered onions and mushrooms to top the steak and garlic mashed potatoes with asparagus. Very good meal and reasonably priced. Service was very good, the server returned to the table numerous times to see if we needed anything.

Always make it a point to stop here when we go to Devils Lake.

This place was amazing! We came here from out of town and stopped by because the reviews sold us and man were people right! The service is phenomenal (our server was Jason), and the food was spectacular. My boyfriend hardly ever says a steak is as good as he said his filet was! Definitely would recommend to everyone.

Do not go here if you are on a diet. The food is great. Steaks are very tastey and large. Every meal I have had had been a winner. Not the cheapest in town, but definitely worth a look. And by the way the desserts are very good as well.

The brisket was great, blackened steak tips were tender n juicy , tots rocked!!! Racquel was awesome bartender, great Moscow mules and friendly service with spot on food recommendations.

Its a great business and the food is very high quality. Was able to try sushi and poutine for the first time in my life. Both Id recommend. The mixed alcohol on the menu is amazing. Ive been there three times since moving and its been almost flawless every time. My medium steak was more medium well or just plain well, but thats hardly something Id take a star off for. Cant be perfect every time.
