I attended a Housing Law seminar presented by Phyllis June 12, 2020. Phyllis is extremely knowledgeable about our current challenges and their impact on housing. I attended a virtual CLE on housing on June 12.The program was so compelling I decided to join my mediator colleagues to mediate housing disputes. I have been a volunteer Mediator for JCMS since 2006, a Mediator for the USPS REDRESS EEO Program since 2007, and a volunteer Mediator for the BBB since 2017. I am very grateful for the preparation and insights provided in the June 12 CLE. The presenters were outstanding.

We are, even several years later, building on the values, practices and processes to which Phyllis exposed our team. I personally observed Phyllis facilitate listening/discussion sessions with highly polarized and agitated individuals/groups within in a multiunit housing community. Her ability to hear deeply, validate experiences and ask questions of the participants turned a very tense and positional dynamic into one of appropriate and genuine sharing. Participants who arrived to the session feeling discounted and angry, left being engaged in the solutions and expressing measurable increase in understanding and empathy for other participants (as determined by evaluation results).

Extremely professional and competent and easy to understand

In 2015 I was embroiled in a civil rights dispute with my HOA.  Phyllis Roestenberg agreed to represent me and protect my rights as a homeowner.  As a civil rights attorney she truly believed in my case, and she worked tirelessly to ensure that I received the best representation possible.  Her attention to detail in her research, communication, and court filings was apparent; it provided us a great advantage when going up against the HOA’s big-name lawyers.Perhaps more important to me, though, was the emotional support she provided to help me get through this lawsuit.  Being sued and fighting to protect civil rights while putting your life’s savings on the line is a very stressful process.  Phyllis was always there to reassure me in my moments of doubt, and she was always straightforward and open with me while discussing my case.After a 3-year battle, because of her commitment to me and my case, two court orders were published in the state of Colorado that have already helped persons with disabilities to protect their civil rights under the Fair Housing Act.I really don’t know how I would have gotten through this process without Phyllis’ help and support, and for that I will be forever grateful to her.
