The worst experience ever. We spent over 20k and spoke to the lawyer 2 times. He did absolutely nothing to help my case. He delayed everything which ended up costing me more money in the long run with child support. My lawyer also randomly quit, and they told me he retired and wasn’t a lawyer anymore so while I was calling around to find a new one I found the office he was at now. Absolutely no communication, but they sure are quick to withdraw money for doing nothing.

I am currently going through a custody case that ar first did not seem all too complicated. I thought we would have had more success with my son’s custody case. This is in no way due to Modern Family Law of Denver lack of effort. In fact the people at MFL took my case in good faith/not with out a cost though and represented me and my sons case to what I felt as best as they could. I worked with Nick for find jurisdiction during my child custody case; we had to establish jurisdiction before going forward. It took him nearly 30+ hours of doing tasks I did not approve to determine Colorado did not have jurisdiction. My ex wife informed me her lawyer only charged her for less that 10 hours. My NC lawyer (who I’ve been working with for 4x the amount I worked with Nick and modern family) has only charged me for 15 hours and he got my divorce/child custody taken care of. My exes NC lawyer is about the same as my NC lawyer. It’s questionable as to what modern family did to rack up my bill when 3 other lawyers that did equal or far more work.I partially reviewed my bill and questioned some odd charges. Like when does it take 30 mins to forward a client one email? It’s illegal to charge for financial conversations yet they’re on my bill and I informed them it’s illegal to charge me for that. So, I asked to speak nick to figure out why my bill is so high. He is refuses to speak to me. I asked to speak to a supervisor but no one has called me. They’re now threatening to take me to collections if I don’t pay but we’ve yet to resolve.Modern family is the shady Law firm you’ve always dreaded working with. It’s unfortunate because nick seemed like a good lawyer that knew his stuff but he also knew how to rack up my bill before Colorado lost jurisdiction doing tasks that were absolutely meaningless.Update:I have set up a monthly payment plan to pay my remaining balance to avoid my debt going to collections as they’ve threatened me many times with. I have made my payments and kept in good Finacial standing with MFL. I then informed modern family law I would be submitting a complaint against them to the state regarding misconduct, and I have. They then informed me that if I did that, they would “take that as I don’t have any intentions to pay my debt to them and send my debt to collections” then not honoring our agreement. I said “no I’ll continue to make my agreed upon payments while we go through this process to avoid collections”. She replied “I don’t even know if they’ll accept your payments anymore”. Implying if I go forward, they will not honor our agreement. Ladies and gents, that is a THREAT/ BLACKMAIL and I did include that to my misconduct complaint with them to the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. Don’t let this company bully you.

Wasnt the best experience starting off, but once Nick T took over my case everything moved smoothly and fast and was able to finalize my case. I still am able to call him even after everything was completed. Nick gets a 5 star for sure.

Donny McClellan was absolutely amazing, he represented me in a custody battle against my ex husband that was involved over three different states. He kept me up to date with everything I needed to know on my case without over communicating so my bills werent crazy high (although my ex did his best to ruin that). This law firm was an absolute joke to work with I spent over $20,000 and absolutely got ran over the coals. They have sneaky billing tricks and lawyers are non responsive. During my time of being represented with them I spoke to Courtland Williams two times in total. The second time I was supposed to meet him at the office upon arrival there he then notified me he was going to be unable to make it to our meeting substituted his paralegal Sarah Duff. Sarah did seem to care quite a bit about the case I do know that there’s nothing really she could’ve done because Courtland decided to quit the office right when my case was about to reach some sort of resolve. If you are in need of a good lawyer I would definitely do your research before excepting this lawyer team onto your case. I was represented by this firm for a little over four months during that time not one attorney is the same.

Motion for Contempt not filed over medical concerns for an autistic child because of the other lawyer Brewer and this firm being scared. Now, I have to find a lawyer who is willing to fight. Brewer does not scare me.Fyi this law firm made an agreement with a CFI, cfi denys it. Now, this law firm used my debt card without my permission, used up 3k in 2 weeks to use up the last of a retainer to ensure I was not able to hire another attorney.I would love to know when the CEO is available to discuss this 3k invoice and pick up my check due to the agreement mishandle by your lawyer on staff

Very helpful through out the whole process. Getting a good repetitiveness is a big step in the stride of building a better life with you family. Every one here makes you feel like they are on you side and they only want the best for you. Its going to be costly, but it worth it to know you have the security.

Missed child support while waiting on a retainer refund.If you have millions, and dont care about personalization or efforts to mediate then this is the team for you.

The prices are not very affordable as the name would imply. I called to get rates on mediation and the minimum hourly cost is average for my area and the minimum retainer for services is $2,500. The woman I spoke to on the phone was not very helpful in giving me pricing information and hung up on me somewhat rudely when I let her know I was not interested in services. I recommend going with a smaller firm as they are likely to be more personable and have more competitive pricing.

Jennifer Garcia is a very compassionate dedicated attorney who went above and beyond to help me fight battles on multiple fronts and did so in stride. I unfortunately have had to deal with multiple family law attorneys and Ms. Garcia and her staff are very professional dedicated and take your case personally and treat you like family. Better then my prior experiences by far. I would recommend Ms.Garcia to any fathers fighting to be just that a dad. Modern family was a very bad decision .. they filed into a closed case charged me twice for filling.. I repeatedly told them not to file into the case would not listen to anything.. then they would not answer or talk to me to resolve this ... I would highly recommend no one use this firm .. I feel completely mislead and unrepresented in the whole thing .. they just took me for my money period.. never had a court date set or paperwork completely filled throughout the whole experience

You could save yourself a lot of time and money and just give your soon-to-be ex everything they want! This firm misrepresented me, failed to meet filing deadlines, lied about how much this was going to cost. They told me at most $12k when I originally called, then proceeded to bill me $40,000 before we ever even got to the final orders hearing. It was a bait and switch. The attorney that represented me during the temporary orders hearing was so unprepared that the judge gave the other side MORE than they were even asking for and then proceeded to chastise me for missing filing deadlines, even though I didnt know my attorney hadnt done it. Then for the last year an attorney at this firm has been looking into it, promising to make it right, but never following up when she said she would. Obviously a delaying tactic to keep me from leaving reviews like this. Please, please, stay away from this firm. They make a bad situation worse.

I retained this law firm in November of 2017. At the start of my case, my attorney was fairly helpful and answered a lot of my questions. Attorneys use the retainer that is provided to the firm to use towards attorneys fees and court costs and filing documents with the courts. towards the end of my retainer this firm became very difficult to get answers from and would often take 3-4 days to answer an email. On top of that, I was thankful to have had family to help me with my retainer, I had a family member call in with my initial retainer so i could retain services. Well in the end, this firm charged my family member with a substantial amount of money when they never had permission to charge after the initial retainer was placed. They work with the client directly and keep the clients debit/credit card on file to re fill retainer when needed. This firm charged a family member for over $800 without permission placing that family member into financial turmoil. They were not willing to refund that money to that person as its all about money and they didnt care how they got it or what it may have done to someone else. There name is Modern Family Law, Key words Modern Family, Most modern familys need help and comfort, this firm was not easy to deal with. After my Mediation it was very hard to get a response from the attorney hired in regards to anything. Even opposing council stated that it was hard to get a response. At the end, it was all about money to this firm and they really hurt a family member in the process. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere or at least do your research before hiring this firm as your counsel.

Steer clear of this law firm for they did a very very poor job of representation. Did not fallow suit nor stay on track. For I cant speak for all attorneys yet I can speak for Cortland he is one not to trust or put faith towards protecting your family. A child abuse allegation was filed against my sons mother well leaving physical marks on the child yet could not explain to the court clearly enough there was an issue.

I had a wonderful experience with my lawyer, who was hired by another firm and then hired mid- prep by Family Law pc Denver. Our court dates extended unexpectedly and needed to continue w/the lawyer I was prepped for the hearing. He was hired by this firm. They did not state clearly their billing practice or then have any swift prudence in fixing the situation. They have aggressively charged me for things that weren’t agreed upon and when trying to contact them to correct their mistake, did not respond with any honest or timely self correction . I would head a warning when dealing with this practice.

I had originally hired Johnson Marquez for a divorce matter in 2012 and continue to use their services today. I have used their services for family issues, legal representation and other issues such as a temporary restraining order. Dave is very knowledgeable and gave me sound advice that helped me make correct decisions in each matter. I had hired three other attorneys for different issues over the past 5 years and Dave and his team was more informative and helpful than the others were. Thank you for your service!

Attorney knew the game and knew what he was doing, but absolutely not worth the money. I always felt like Jay had my back, but was more of a billing opportunity. I was over 10 grand for a drafted patenting plan and some financials. When I had difficulty paying the 1500$ bi-weekly statements, I never get a response from the attorney or thebilling specialist, they just drafted my account. I had a minimum 2 hours a week for email communication with opposing counsel and when I brought that up, a month later they said there was an error and the emails didnt take that long and credited me back two hours. A four way conference was me sitting in the meeting room by myself while he talked to my opposing counsel and the other party.All in all, Im out an absurd amount of money for a copy and pasted parenting plan with minor adjustments. I didnt even go to court! I didnt know who my judge was or anything! Ive had my new attorney for two weeks and I feel like he got more done in that time than what took this attorney 6 weeks. I would recommend this attorney if you want to put up your retirement to pay for it, or simply spend your life savings in a matter of months. These things arent free, I get that, but this firm (at least Jay Cranmer) is 100% not worth the money.

Dont trust this law firm there are only out to get your money I mentioned to my attorney no names mentioned that in the first mediation that they should have dealed with the equity and the child support but they just decided to deal with child support first they should have done with both of them first when first mediation they are a rip-off just like any other attorneys out there theyre just out to get your money and then they try to tell you to calm down and theres nothing they can do about it they sure hell can do something about it! I thought they were great at first and they were going to take care of me I was wrong!!! This firm is a joke!

I would not recommend this firm unless you enjoy giving your money and trust to unempathetic people. This firm claims they are caring and do the right kind of thing culture but they do not care about their clients at all, it’s one of those companies that say they do but their actions speak way against that. I had major problems with this firm which who had almost withdrew two weeks prior to my divorce date, on top of that they leaked my personal phone number and address to my ex spouse who was physically abusive to me which I told all of my information would have been confidential. They accidentally leaked that to my spouse. When I originally confronted my attorney David Collins that I noticed my information was given on some documents provided to my spouse his response what that oh well at least it was my old address ( since I did move) I recently informed their manager as well that my attorney did leak my information with no response from them. No apology no nothing. They don’t care about clients, this is of the many many things I had to deal with this firm. Unstable, non caring people. Stay away.

Long version:I hired Modern Family Law towards the end of my case.. like right at the end.. we literally only had one more court hearing, for the final orders, and it was supposed to be over with. Basically I paid my retainer fee, signed the paperwork, and we had to appear in court 4 days later. If you’re wondering why I even needed to hire an attorney this close to the end, I just did- and that’s another long story on its own. Any way. My lawyer, Grant, was unavailable for the court hearing, so the paralegal showed up to represent me. She didn’t realize it was supposed to be a final order and thought it was just a check-in. Well, my ex and his attorney didn’t show up at all, so my paralegal requested a continuous since we came unprepared as well. That’s probably the root of my bitterness. Since my ex and I couldn’t agree on part of the parenting plan, we decided to take it to trial. The court gave us a month to prepare. My ex didn’t do any thing he was supposed to and was somehow granted another continuous. What I’m most upset about though, is that another 2 months go by and a week before our trial, my attorney calls me to let me know that my ex will be getting a new attorney cause his current one doesn’t ‘do trials’ but his new attorney will be out of the country and they asked for another continuous. My attorney told me that he doesn’t think we should allow that and is going to deny their request. Come to find out, it gets granted- and on the court order it specifically states that my attorney showed up to the court house, on a different matter, and let them know we will be seeking a continuous. I felt super betrayed because there was no communication that that was even a thought. My attorney then tried to call me and let me know my ex’s new attorney thinks he can get him to agree on everything and it won’t go to trial. Another month later and more money being drained from my account, my ex finally agreed to the terms. Then, my attorney went to a new firm and I was assigned a new attorney, who was nice enough to give me a $500 credit for the ‘inconvenience’ but of course found a way to completely drain me of that, too, all within a 2 week period.. When I looked at my charge statement, I got charged for an hour, stating I met up with her to go over the final orders and sign them, when in fact, I told her I was going to print all the papers and sign them with a notary instead. All I did was drop off the papers to her . When I reached out to billing I got no response. Then, I was supposed to get my retainer fee within 30 days. I’ve been waiting...It’s been about 20 days and all of a sudden, today, I just got charged with a random $13 filing fee and then a side note saying ‘I bet you’re wondering about your refund’.. and then it goes over all the refund terms. The one that stuck out to me was that ‘I have to have 2 weeks of inactivity before I get my refund back’.. what the f???? My attorney already withdrew from my case and it’s been more then 2 weeks of inactivity so why am I still getting charged?? I will be even more upset if I have to wait another 30 days because of this charge today.I just don’t recommend this firm...Short version:Pro’s:I won my caseCon’s:-I literally just paid thousands of dollars for them to talk to my ex’s lawyer the whole time-They mistakenly with-drawl money from your account... I’m talking $500...-They bill you for e v e r y thing. I stopped taking their calls at one point.. but you’ll still get charged even if you don’t answer

I worked primarily with Sergei Thomas on my case which included civil family law complicated by criminal charges. He was an ardent advocate for me and my son, a consummate professional and a kind, honest person. He was easily accessible, quick to respond and downright fantastic. If you find yourself needing a family lawyer, call him - I cant recommend highly enough. Additionally he has a depth of knowledge about addiction and abuse that other lawyers I spoke with could not grasp - perhaps from his years serving as a DA in Jeffco. The firm and all of its staff are also wonderful to work with.

This disagreement is between Modern Family Law and myself. We are divorced for a reason, but this arrogant jackhole had no right to make it easy for someone to figure out who she is, where she works, etc..... Chris McTaggart had no right to reveal the identity of my ex-wife on a public forum for the whole world to see. The internet is written in ink, not pencil. In addition, that could lead to someone discovering the identity of my children.This is beyond reckless.... yet, somehow, it just seems par for the course with this firm. Deny, pass blame and, now reveal personal information that could lead to a dangerous situstion for my ex-wife and children.If you read any of the negative posts on this review board, Chris starts off with what seems to be a sincere apology and then quickly explains how its the fault of the individual and not his law firm. This is exactly the type of behavior, in addition to the ridiculous overbilling, that Im talking about. At this hearing my lawyer (David Collins) arrived looking haggard and hungover. He actually fell asleep at our table while I was on the stand! He would continually engage my ex-wife in 30-45 minute phone conversations that went no where and did nothing for my case.... and promptly added these calls to my bill.My initial meeting was a dog and pony show where two lawyers openly brainstormed all the reasons they could be beneficial to my case and followed through on none of them in my hearing. They took the concept of over promising and under delivering to a brand new level.David Collins as unprepared and completely outmatched in that court room. He continued to object to something the judge overruled in the 1st thirty seconds of our hearing, while whispering to me that he was setting me up for an appeal. Johnson Marquez SAVED ME from my living nightmare! I was in a horrible physically abusive relationship and did not see a way out. It took me a while to seek help and guidance.
