While all job placement agencies are terrible for different reasons, this is probably the worst one. Firstly, they convince you that your skill set is worth much less than it actually is. For example, my first assignment was paid at $13/hour, even though I have a bachelor degree and years of experience. Also, they make claims that their clients are growing and that there’s room for growth. This is a lie. A lot of the companies hiring are very small businesses, and they don’t really have funds to hire you, and even if they hire you, you’re going to be in dead end jobs. In my first assignment, I worked at a CPA firm where I endured bullying and verbal abuse. Yet, when I brought my issues over to Anna Kwok, my rep, she did nothing. Of course, at the end of my assignment they chose not to keep me, and I wasn’t heart broken about it. My second assignment, I was paid $13/hr as well. I once again had to deal with verbally abusive coworkers. But this time, I didn’t say anything, because Anna was completely useless, and I needed the paycheck, no matter how little it was. I was called stupid and was yelled at by my coworkers from time to time, even though they had told me I was the best suited for the job because of my excel skills. In the end, they couldn’t afford to keep me, because that company was undergoing restructuring and were downsizing, but they never disclosed that to Accountemps. I knew I wasn’t going to stay, because I overheard the general manager talking to my coworkers once, and things were not going so well for this company. They believed it was going to go under. So they officially told the agency that they just couldn’t afford me. By this time, I was already very wary of the agency, the kind of companies I was getting assigned to, and so I decided to find work on my own or through other agencies. Anna Kwok came to me one last time, and she offered me an assignment that she said was an accounting position for a real estate company. Times were hard, with barely that many jobs available in the market, so I accepted. I interviewed and passed. I immediately liked everyone there, they also liked me, but when I get there my first day, I come to find out...I was going to be a receptionist, not even accounts payable or receivable or clerk or anything accounting related. Oh, and to add injury to insult, it was June, and this was a 3 month assignment that would supposedly go to permanent after the 3 months, but the managers told me plainly at the very beginning that they didn’t have a budget for another person until January, and that was IF their corporate accounting office approved of the addition. So, I chose to go and interview for positions elsewhere. When Anna called me and said Accountemps would no longer assign me anywhere, I wasn’t heartbroken. I also called her out for lying to me. Don’t work for this firm. Don’t do it. You can find work on your own somewhere nice, I did. If you get abused in any way, don’t take it. Leave. The agency won’t back you up, because they don’t work for you.

These people are not trustworthy. Like any business, though they market as wanting to help you, in reality, they are only interested if you will make them money. They will schedule phone interviews and unapologetically be a no-call no-show to it and position low paying job reqs one is overqualified for in a way that makes you think its ones only option. Not a good way to build long term relationships
