Yeah, go here if you wanna struggle to take care of a kitten and play with the coinflip of whether or not they might die. Dogs are treated far better than cats in this shelter and all the cats usually come with some sort of problem as if theyve been neglected the whole time theyve been sheltered. Fleas, various infections, all usually coming in with no warning from anybody at the shelter. This should be some sort of rights violation. Needs to be shut down.

I highly recommend Allegany County Animal Shelter. They approved us to take home the newest addition to our family. We couldnt be more happy and Sarah made our family complete.

I wish I could give a negative star review. I got a precious kitten from there and she had a whole bunch of problems. And now she’s on oxygen and getting antibiotics, because she’s so sick. never again.

The coordinator at the shelter couldnt have be nicer with the help of the adoption of my new little fur baby Raphael 💜 She walked my daughter through the process, answered all our questions throughly with great patience. Most of the animals are spayed or neutered and have their 1st shots. They are vet checked and healthy. My Raphael is the most adorable, sweetest, kindest cat, he is bringing so much joy to my life. There are so many wonderful kittens, cats and puppies and dogs at the shelter the need the love of someone. If you would like to have a pet /fur baby and are unable to have one at your current home or due to work restrictions consider volunteering with the shelter a few hours when your schedule allows. You will be doing something that will give so much joyand so many animals happy to have someone new to play with or just hold and pet them. You may make some new friends that are also volunteering 🙂 ~~ Thank-you #AlleganyCountyAnimalShelter for my Raphael 💜🐈💜

About 2 yrs ago me and my fiance tried to adopt a dog that we was absolutely in love with... He was going to be my fiances ESA animal due to having ptsd from child hood trauma... We showed proof of income and our lease bank statements, everything they asked for we provided and we did not get approved.. It was heart wrenching honestly.. We told them we anyway had a male golden retriever named melo so were def animal lovers... We just wish we could adopt a loving animal from there and give it an amazing home

I understand its hard to take care of so many animals, but most of them are all kept outside in wire cages with tarps on top, when I was there, there were cats just walking loose around in the driveway and around cars. One dog there I saw had mattes. Was quite upsetting to see all this.

Very dirty. Some of the animals were under weight. Staff does not have any idea how to run a shelter. I witnessed a staff member yell at a dog and call it a retard because it dropped its pill she tried to give it. Had she givin the dog the pill properly in the first place it would not have dropped it.

Went in today and was less than pleased, mind you i dont normally write reviews however this place bugged me very badly. We(girlfriend and i) showed up in order to look at dogs so we started looking at the ones outside and just noticed some didnt have food or water which didnt really bug me too bad as i know the animals could have finished eating and knocked their water bowl over so no biggie there however after looking at the outdoor dogs we entered a shed located right outside the front door that had cats in it just to look at them after looking at one side of this shed we were in the middle (plain view of the door that was wide open when we entered) a gentleman then approached the shed and in a very rude tone said dont pet the cats ( which i had only petted the one in front of me thus far) and then proceeded to ask if anyone told us it was okay to be in there and we said no because we hadnt seen anyone up until this point then he asked what made us think we were allowed in and i said well the door was wide open and he stated well that doesnt mean you can just walk in ( which I assumed that we could because the door was open and its a animal shelter open to the public) so we exited the small shed which was very hot inside and I looked around thinking i may have missed a sign saying we couldnt enter but I couldnt find any and was given no reason as to why we couldnt be in the shed full of cats at a public animal shelter. Also, while looking around outside we counted at least 15 cats roaming around the building not in any sort of cage or anything and no food or water set out for these animals. Upon entering the main building we were greeted by two sweet and lovely ladies who answered all our questions and guided us to the dog room. I understand that the facility may be short staffed and im not holding that against them but the gentleman we encountered outside didnt need to be as rude as he was for no reason as i hadnt said anything to him before he confronted us. Maybe if not for customer services sake of being polite, he should have just asked calmly for us to exit as we were not allowed in that particular area. I dont ask for much but I treat people the way they treat me and id say i was more than respectful to this man when i didnt have to be. I hope these animals find good homes soon as Im afraid the shelter cant handle what they have now. Im not trying to turn anyone away from adopting from here or even visiting im just sharing my experience.
