I think the worst thing you can do is recognize that you have a debt problem and then nothing about it. It will not get any better. I know because stuck my head in the sand for over a year and the problem got worse and worse. What started out with 40K in debt ended up being 75K because all my money was going to pay the debt and the only way I could afford anything was to charge it. Very, very bad idea.
