Kyle Mayfield handled expertly a very complex situation; getting my newly purchased 2019 RV 10 insured while being a low time pilot without instrument rating and having zero hours in make and model. He navigated and got creative and was instrumental in working with underwriters to get my prior flight instructor who has plenty of experience with low wing 4 seat aircraft but also has 0 time and make model (RV-10). Was able to get a policy in which the stipulations were reasonable, fair, and more importantly safe. Thanks again :)

Matt at BWI insurance was unresponsive and lacked the willingness to communicate to follow up inquiries regarding my insurance quote.

I was always seeing BWI ads and thought I would get a quote for my Fly Club planes. We have 4 planes and 55 members. In one of my initial emails with Jessica I told her we are currently insured with AIG. After sending extensive information including a spreadsheet with each pilots hours per plane, ratings etc along with Hull values she went crickets on me. I followed up a week later and was told she was waiting on a quote from AIG. After pointing out to her that we were already with them I was informed AIG was the only carrier that would insure clubs with over 20 members. Information that would have been nice to know from the start before I wasted all my time.*******EDIT*******************2 hours after posting this (formally 1 star) review I received a call from Matt White, the owner of BWI Insurance. He started the conversation by thanking me for my critical review and acknowledged the ball had been dropped during the quote process and will be used as a learning tool in the future. Although he was not able to get my club any other insurance due to our size he did give me some helpful points during our 15 minute conversation on coverage we should have for our organization and gave me his direct line for the future. At no point did Mr. White ask me to change my review. Class act in handling a poor review.

Very happy with BWI Aviation Insurance. They try hard to find me a competitive rate and I really appreciate that!

Very upset with this company. I have been with them due to their monthly payment option. They have changed this option without notifying current customers. Now only premiums over $1000 can take advantage of the monthly payment option. They clearly do not value their customers as they classify them upon how much money they are spending.

I switched to BWI this year mainly because they beat everyone out on price first and foremost.Travers was a very close second only being slightly more by hundreds of dollars... that is more money in my pocket to go flying! Assured Partners and Avemco were out of site on price quotes for my plane and experience comparatively to BWI and those company’s did not account for my former year of flying and nearly building 100 hours of PIC time on type in my Mooney. Once more a lot more money in my pocket to go flying!I also liked that I was able to get right through to an assigned insurance agent on the phone with BWI to discuss my insurance quote and insurance needs. Nicole texted me right away and was very helpful in making sure that all of my questions were answered with a timely insurance quote and contact info if I had questions. Three other four companys I received quotes from either did not answer or put me on hold for too long. This was the case for my former insurance company (Assured Partners) as well so they didn’t feel very personalized to me.Another marketing strategy that drove me away from my former insurer and over to BWI is that was my former insurance company started bugging me to renew my policy 3-4 months before it expired which would not account for my total flight time for the year for any time in aircraft type discounts. AOPA uses the same type of marketing strategy to have members renew well in advance of membership expiration so it didn’t really surprise me that Assured was using the same marketing strategy but it is nevertheless annoying. Assured exhibited such urgency to require me to reapply at no later than over a full two months prior to the insurance expiration to try and lock me into their higher rates. By doing that so far in advance, when I finally did attempt to renew the policy about four weeks prior to expiration, they would no longer allow me to renew without submission of a total new application as if I was a new client and being told I was no longer important to them. Even after reapplying to receive an updated quote from them, they still did not account for my time in aircraft type for the prior year until about one week prior to the policy expiration by which time I had already switched and signed a contract with BWI. Assured’s lack of attention to detail did it for me with regards to customer care so I am very happy to be with BWI this year to insure my Mooney.On a side note, a friend of mine said BWI was one of the only company’s willing to insure her Lancair. That meant a lot to me showing that this business is willing to bring in a more diverse customer base for different aircraft types rather then snub their nose at certain planes like the other company’s did to her. With all that said and how I have been treated so well already, BWI seems very reasonable and I’m pleased to give them my business to keep the market competitive out there in the insurance world.

Fast and easy aircraft insurance policy at a great rate! Easy to work with and they respond quickly to any questions.

Quoted me a cheaper price and then when I wanted to sign up, wanted to upsell me for something that was almost 10% more. Stuck with original quote. Wanted to quit them after a year. Policy got renewed by mistake and when I asked to cancel it less than 45 days later, I got charged for 6 months worth of insurance after an associate told me I would only pay for the time frame that I used. They would not take responsibility for it either. Read their fine print, because customer service is not their strong point. Other than wanting money, they never questioned what my true insurance needs were.

BWI has been our aircraft insurance provider for the last five years and every year we are more and more impressed with the team. Specifically Kristen as she is prompt, professional and solutions focused and has been a pleasure to work with. Two thumbs up for a great firm with the best rates on our Cessna 182 and experimental aircraft kit we have found.

UPDATE: Shortly after posting this review, I received an email from Matt White. He explained a few things that I was unaware of, and helped to explain some of the delay. Ill leave the original review in place for reference, but I wanted to note that I appreciate his professionalism and timely response.--------------------------------People are nice and professional, but they operate slower than a snail. It took MONTHS, to get my refund check in the mail (and that was only after cajoling them through those months to get the check sent to me). I opted to give them a second chance, and to this day (WEEKS after I called them), I have heard nothing back. Im not going to keep cajoling them, they need to learn to operate their business more efficiently.Also worth noting, Matt White (last reviewer) is an insurance adjuster at this company. I dont think I need to state how pathetic it is that he has to review his own company.Not impressed. I never filed a claim with them, and Im glad I havent....

Jessica did a great job of getting me low-cost coverage for my recently-acquired Cardinal RG. She kept after me for 4 months until I finally bought through BWI—I have bought and I am glad.

I just switch from Travers to BWI, I was skeptical but I spoke to Mallory and had a quote in about 2 minutes over the phone. Saved a good chunk of change and was really impressed with Mallorys service. Great job BWI. I will shop my PA-12 with you next year as well.

Steer Clear! HORRIBLE customer service. They trick you into activating coverage (they ask what date would you like this to be effective, and when you answer thats your consent to activate service) before seeing documents and even when stating you do not want the insurance after seeing the documents they dont cancel. Then two months later they still harass you for payment on a policy you dont want and never asked for. And rather than switching to a policy that covers your needs they insist you pay the prorated portion. They could have sold me the policy I needed but instead chose to insist that I pay a $74 cancellation charge on a policy I never asked to be enforced. I will look elsewhere for UAV insurance and be in contact with the BBB and the California Insurance Commissioner. This business practice shouldnt be legal....
