Rented a truck recently for a move and everything was quick, easy, and painless working with this Uhaul location. Was checked in and in the truck within 10 minutes of walking in the door and check out was just as fast. Rental rate was the lowest I could find in the area. Their per mile cost is a little higher than others so it sort of evened out at the end of the day. Went with this due to the location of their lot as other places in the area are on the outskirts of town or multiple miles further from where I was.

I arrived at the store, spoke to manager and was told he was the only person who could help with a propane fill up. He said he would be right back to help me. After 35 minutes of waiting I finally was told by another staff member that the manager was off doing other things and nobody could help me, so I would have to come back another time.

Rental was fine but everytime I had to speak to an associate it was actually just unpleasant. If it was one person Id chalk it up to someone having a bad day but multiple people on the phone..

Made a reservation and got NOTHING. we needed a 15’ truck for our move and made a reservation for 24 hr. we go there to pick it up and they said we could rent us a cargo van for 4 hours... tried doing that but then the computer system wouldn’t allow it so now we can’t move 🤡

Wont return. A lot of attitude. If you dont like your job, get a new one. The only reason I continue with the rental was this was the only location with the trailer I needed. Not saying everyone had an attitude, just the dude waiting on me.

We rented a small enclosed trailer to move a bed and a couch across town. We got to the new apartment and noticed there were bed bugs on only the things that we put in the trailer. We had to call a pest control company to be sure that we got ahead of the problem. There goes $600. Take our advice and spend a little extra money and rent your moving supplies somewhere else.

Horrific Experience Which Cost Me an Extra $2,180Please do not make the mistake I did and hire Uhaul to ship your belonging across the country. Here is the short version.- My Uhaul box was 9 days late- I was left stranded in LA for 9 days and had to pay $2,180 for a hotel + food + empty apartment + work clothes.- I was lied to by multiple people- Talked down to and belittled over the phone- Ignored by at least 10 employees- Was told over the phone by the manager at a customer service center that she didn’t care that my Uhaul box was 9 days late. It wasn’t her problem.I hope this never happens to anyone else again but unfortunately THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I have read so many bad reviews about Uhaul and their terrible treatment of their customers needs to stop. Supposedly their phone calls are recorded so UHAUL go back and listen to how your employees treated me over the phone. There are over 20 phone calls so just pick a couple and listen to how your employees dismissed and talked down to me.

Had a decent experience picking up my boxes. They told me that I would be able to return the boxes in which I didn’t use. Asked them if I needed a receipt for the boxes, the man told me it would be fine. (After all they say UHaul on them) went in to return the boxes that I didn’t use and they told me that I needed a receipt. Would I need a receipt to return a truck that says UHaul? Upsold me and now I have 20 boxes I don’t need that day UHaul...very disappointed.

I made an online reservation to pick up a 5x8 trailer 6 weeks in advance and got a call 2 days before the pick-up date saying this location didn’t have what I reserved and I would have to drive 45 minutes away to pick it up. They had no explanation for me other than “sometimes the online reservations don’t update quickly”. They refused to give any sort of discount and they didn’t leave me enough warning to go with another company, so I’m stuck with them for now but moving forward I would recommend going with someone else for this type of service. Maybe calling in person will improve your service, but from the other reviews that doesn’t seem like a great option either.

I dont like to leave 1 star reviews but the level of service from the employees was terrible. I wanted to reserve a trailer for more than one day and they would not make the reservation. I could take the trailer one way and never return it but not for more than 1 day as they need them in case someone wants to rent it. When I asked to speak to the manager about the money I had burning a hole in my pocket the employee said no and hung up. Good news is corporate didnt have a problem renting me the trailer and was very eager to assist.

In the middle of a local COVID-19 surge this July, no one at this store was wearing a mask, while every single customer waiting in line (except for one moron) was wearing one. Management at this store clearly doesnt take the pandemic and the health of the community seriously. Take your business elsewhere.

The staff I spoke to at best did not comprehend simple sentences, and at worst was willfully trying to be unhelpful. Connor answered the phone and was unable to answer an extremely straight-forward question. After being on hold for 15 minutes he kept repeating the same phrases over and over and pushing me through the reservation process even though I was not trying to make a reservation. Ive never encountered a staff member that lacked the most basic skills of communication. Please find someone else to answer your phones.

Staff & service at Coralville helpful & courteous, even today (completely booked first weekend of summer & first after lockdown). On other hand, U-Haul Company Website mobile phone self-pickup of rental truck was complete failure: after pre-registering excessive identity data to reserve local truck for ONE DAY (more photo IDs than flying), then re-entering more info when picking up truck, app never released truck to us. We had to wait in line to have local staff redo the rental and get us the same truck we had reserved. Total time spent on failed convenient mobile app self-pickup (including original reservation) about 45 minutes; total time for local Coralville staff to do new reservation and get us into the truck, about 15 minutes (including time to cancel the failed mobile app reservation). Coralville, 5 stars; U-Haul mobile app, 0 stars.

AVOID THIS U-HAUL LOCATION!Terrible experience at this location, I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody & would actually encourage them to avoid this location.Went to this location in-person in mid-June to set reservation for U-Box for last weekend of July. When I called yesterday 7/21 to ask a question about what I thought was my reservation I was then notified that the employee forgot to actually book my reservation & only gave me a quote.Their “solution” to the problem was to now drive 40 mins to CR & pay a higher fee for the U-Box.Totally unprofessional & a joke of an operation at this location.

Literally everyone here must be daft. I was told by three people I was going to get a refund either electronically or as a check in the mail (which I was told I would be notified if it was sent in the mail). Three weeks go by, nothing. I call the uhaul and ask about the refund, and the guy doesn’t let me talk to a manager. He then said, “I don’t know who would’ve told you that you’d get a refund, because you really shouldn’t be getting one.” After I was told by the STORE manager and two other employees that I would be getting that refund. Absolutely dumb. Avoid this Uhaul location by any means.

I called last Friday to set up the reservation for today. Somehow they lost the reservation. When I call to reset the reservation and complain the other person in the background says he doesnt know what the hell Im talking about.I set up another one and gave ALL details. Was given a price that would be charged. Get to pick up and given a higher price.... and then have to give all the info not once... but twice more because of how incompetent the workers are. Four damn times to set up a simple reservation for an enclosed trailer!

1 Star because 0 is not an option. Rang the bell for propane service outside, as the sign directs you to. Got my propane tank out of my car and waited. 15 minutes goes by and not a soul in site. Packed up and left. Don’t waste your time.Only been here one other time and the guy behind desk was really rude and entitled.

Located right next to a college town, availability gets VERY tight (especially for trucks) around the end of July: just make sure you plan ahead!!Ive rented a trailer from this location a few times over the years, and have never been disappointed with the service. Was assisted this year by the locations General Manager, and couldnt have been happier with the experience. After hours drop off was super convenient and went without a hitch (pun intended).

No parking in customer parking area so we parked near the trailers. Got blocked in by 2 uhaul trucks and when asked employee if he could move a truck so we could leave. He made smart comment about we should have parked in customer parking. I told him there wasnt any parking available. Will take our business somewhere else.

I rented a truck for about 4 hrs, drove 39 miles. They showed me the total, $56.75 The next day I got a call asking when I would return the truck, I told them they already had it and the details of the rental. The day after that I got charged $194.09. They say that Ill get a refund but it may take up to 5 days. (Update: the refund took 2 days). Ive been dealing with this mess for 4 days already and spent about an hour of time on the phone. I rent from them about once a year for doing house projects, but Ill find another truck from here on out.

Absolutely do not use this location. Rented 3 u-boxes about a month before I move, called a week prior to add an additional truck to my order. Got transferred 3 times, was on the phone for about an hour just for them to tell me that the u-boxes I rented last month are actually not available and if I want them I have to drive down to Waterloo to pick them up and re drop them off at Waterloo. When I asked why I’m just finding out about this, especially since I’m the one who called, I was told by the manager that they wouldn’t have let me know until the day prior and that there was nothing they could do to help me, this place is a disaster steer clear.

I rented a truck for 8 hours but they mixed up the time of my reservation. When I went to pick up the truck in the morning (when I was supposed to), they told me they scheduled my reservation for later that night. They also screwed over one person ahead of me by messing up his reservation as well. Seems like a lack of organization with this specific uhaul location. Plus, one of the employees had a horrible attitude for no reason. You walk up to the counter and he acts all angry before you even say a word. Would not recommend.

My original reservation was to rent a truck from UHaul location in Harlan, IA. Two days before pick up, I was called and notified that Harlan would not have a truck I reserved available. My reservation was transferred to a Des Moines location. Because UHaul changed my pick up location I had to drive the vehicle additional miles. UHaul charged me for those additional miles at a rate of $0.40 per mile. Despite my request at the Coralville drop off location to waive the charges because UHaul changed my reservation, I still paid the additional mileage fee.

Not just for renting - great for RV folks! We just bought a new travel trailer and towing vehicle. As total novices we needed lots of help and advice. These folks hooked us up with everything we needed and for a fraction of the cost that the RV dealer would have charged. If you have a new trailer and need some exceptionally knowledgeable advice ask for Blake at Coralville Uhaul. Other staff are also very helpful and great to deal with. Be patient because they are very busy, especially at beginning and end of UI semesters. Towing safety is worth the time it takes to both install the right equipment and have it explained. Blake took extra time to fully explain what we needed to know about how to properly use our new equipment.

I visited this U-Haul branch several times during my out-of-state move. Each time I was greeted by very helpful people, including one employee who loaded my car for me! Thanks U-Haul!

Worst service I have ever had. They have little people working there and all are under educated. They do not care about you or your vehicle. They will up sell you and make it seem it is the best for you. I got a 5x9 trailer and hauled my Rocket to TN in the Appellation Mountains. Also, I had the right connector but they told me it was wrong and charged me for a WTF is this connector. 4 flat trailer connector. There trailer kept blowing my fuses too or it was the !@#$ up job on there wire they made. I did not feel safe at all. Pushed my truck to the max to keep 55mph on a flat ground and TN/NC is no flat at all. Love that area. They had a 4x7 trailer that would have worked best. The ball kept coming loose on my truck and they installed the ball too. The Maryville location in TN said it would cost me $800 to drop the trailer off there. I was going to haul my rocket in the bed and unload is somewhere. When I talked to the manager at the Cville store. He could careless about anything I told him and showed him. Very rude and unprofessional. Please do not rent from here. Your seriously, better off going somewhere else. Budget if that is still around or not. I am looking into buying a trailer myself.

I was very leery after reading all of the reviews on this page, however i had a very easy and comfortable experience working with U Haul in Coralville, IA. The gentleman at the counter (Mike) was very easy to talk to and helped in the most polite manner. The price was right, the service was solid, the only bad thing was the fact that the fleet is a little older than one would like but we had a very short in-town move and everything went according to plan.

DO NOT COME HERE!Reserved online for a 10 truck for 24 hours, went to pick it up at 630 pm, the contract says it is due next day 945 AM. Asked why, the staff says its just a computer glitch, it does that all the time and the truck is actually due 630 pm. I asked him to correct it to avoid any misunderstanding, he said he cant and it is fine. Took his word for it and next thing you know is a addition fee for the second day when returning it. The guy at return is extremely rude and calls himself the manager. Its totally a ripoff, BE AWARE!

Installed a hitch to my car, no hitches! Have rented several times from the Coralville site with no problems what so ever...even had to make several pick up time/day changes that they were very helpful with. The employees at the Beresford, SD site however, are idiots!

We asked over and over, time after time, whether the price they quoted us a month ago was the ABSOLUTE TOTAL.We asked if that was the total cost of:-getting the UBoxes-getting them shipped to our first apartment-getting them stored for a few days-getting them shipped to our new apartment-plus any other taxes or fees.I asked at least three separate times, and so did my husband. They repeatedly told us that was the ABSOLUTE TOTAL.Come to find out, that did NOT include the delivery fee for them to bring them to our new apartment. They said it will be another $229, plus tax (and they said our previous quote did not include tax, so they added another $30 today). So we are paying about $280 more than we were quoted OVER AND OVER. And they conveniently mentioned this just AFTER they placed the giant UBoxes in our parking lot (not before that point, or over the phone, or in an email, or online, for the past MONTH).Also, in order to get your contact, you have to find the right page on their website, fill out a form, pay them 10 more dollars, wait two days, and they still DONT even guarantee that they will be able to FIND your contact. A woman on the phone said shed email me our contact, but all she sent me was a dollar amount. Not what that dollar amount included, or the terms of the UBox rental.I spent over an hour, talking to over 10 employees in 2 cities, just to confirm that our boxes were coming to our new apartment. Finally found out they were NOT, and it also took that long for anyone to tell me where our boxes even were. In 2017, I expect almost any employee to be able to look up basic information like that.

I arrived to get my truck 10 minutes before the rental time and heard the employee giving away the last 17 truck. I thought he must have meant the last one that wasnt reserved. We waited in line for over 20 minutes so by the time we got up to him we were in fact late and that was his reasoning. They offered to give us a 26 truck for the price of the 17 because of the error but that did not work for us because the street we moved to is narrow. We waited until another one would be back at noon. Went back at 11:30 just to be safe and they gave away our truck again! We ended up using a 10 truck and it was too small but they comped us on the gas because we had to make two trips. We thought even though they screwed us with the truck they tried their best to make up for it. Well a few months later I noticed that we had been charged 3 months in a row by UHaul. We got a refund but with all these errors I dont trust the place much. Not very help or friendly staff and VERY unorganized.

Scheduled a time/day for Hitch installation online, get email confirming the appointment. Arrived on said date, get told they are not available and it got bumped to the next day when I am not available. Why schedule a time if they will just change it at will?*UPDATE 5/12/2018* We Called this location because our wiring harness that was installed by their technician was found to be NOT ATTACHED properly to the car, causing the wiring harness to melt from the exhaust and short out our trailers. When we called to speak to the technician multiple times, we were placed on hold and they eventually hung up. Absolutely inexcusable, and we had to issue a claim with our credit card company to refund our purchase since these people have done NOTHING to attempt to make this right. NEVER DO BUSINESS HERE!

We have a 20` truck reserved for early next month for a cross country move. Naturally spending a fair amount of money on a rental I had several questions. The guy that we bothered as he was on his phone texting was one of the most rudest people I have come across in a long time. If I hadnt already paid for my loaders(here) and unloaders(in Arizona ) whom I found thru Uhaul and have used before successfully, I would cancel my order and go back to their competitor. Hopefully when I visit the store in Coralville again the week of my move to verify my equipment I have a better experience. Moving this far is stressful enough, dont want to be stressed out about my rental since we are paying a fairly large amount for the truck (to us at least).

It was really busy and everyone working was doing their job 100% but I rang the propane bell three times and waited for half an hour and no one came around.

Horrible experience! We had to drive 90 minutes out of our way to pick up the truck we reserved. Do yourself a favor and go to Penske, Budget, or Enterprise. It may be a little more expensive but it’s worth it to save you on the hassle.

Dont stop here if you need propane in your motorhome, unless you can take the tanks off the rig. they dont have a pump you can pull up along side, so if you have a tow dolly or trailer you cant make it to the pump -_- so any onboard tanks are a no go, but they will tell you on the phone to get off the highway and come on down we can do it for ya....😂 until ya get there!

Rude as people. Went to get a hitch installed. Asked one question, Looks at me didnt say anything. Then says if your going to argue not doing. After calling around threw there network of customer service., just went back there cause I need it done. Afterwards looked at there work, scotchlocks that will corrode in a couple of months

HORRIBLE SERVICE! We reserved a trailer for an extended camping trip. We didnt learn until HOURS before pickup that this location rescinded our reservation. We were literally on our way to pick up the trailer when we were told that they would need to trailer for other reservations over the weekend. In other words, they could make more $$ by renting it out to other instead of honoring our reservation. Im wondering what in the world happened to customer service when it comes to this company. I will never use UHAUL again, and I will certainly tell my friends and family to steer clear as well. Truly disappointed.

We just picked up our rental and Jason was absolutely great! They know their business!

I had a hitch and associated wiring installed. The hitch was purchased elsewhere. It took about 45 minutes while I waited. The bill was about $158 which I mentioned sounded like too much. The invoice showed 2 identical line items. Each said labor for .8 hours at $65 per hour for $52. When I mentioned that it looked like the labor was accidentally listed twice, they refused to fix it. I found the customer service to be grumpy at best and probably dishonest. Customers beware!

Never enough staff - it usually takes 5 or more minutes for the crew to work through a single customer, which is awful during moving season in Iowa City, when lines can be 5+ people deep. If youre moving around August 1st, be sure to rent your truck well in advance.

Slow to even acknowledge you. Waited an hour to see the manager who did not help at all with an issue we had with a cancellation and was very immature about the whole situation.

Always a good experience here. They arent big on service with a smile, but they are efficient, polite, and have always been helpful with questions.

This place does not have it together and cannot get it together. Will not meet your minimum expectations for business. Previously scheduled reservation, discovered they lost reservation when we called the week of to confirm and we had to schedule a last minute move with another company. Forced to use them again and it took hours to pick up truck, long line, few staff working. This was even outside of the peak IC moving period in July. Customer service subpar and no urgency. Truck we received had noisy brakes. If its at all possible for you to use another service in IC - do it.

Reserved a 17 truck and was given a 14. Called 4x to speak to a manager about this but never got a call back. One rep even went as far to say Why does it matter? Theyre both the same price.Obviously we wanted the 17 truck for a reason since we wanted to gather all of our things in one trip to cut down on mileage and gas to put back in. The only way we were able to file our complaint since the manager was not calling us back and the last rep we spoke with said that we had in fact ordered a 14 truck (when I had the email confirmation on my phone that said differently) we used extra mileage just to go to the Coralville Uhaul location at 5:55 p.m (when they closed at 6 since it was Sunday) to speak to the person who gave us the incorrect truck and show them our email confirmation.They knocked the cost for mileage down to .40 some cents per mile and took $10 off of the rental truck but it was still a terrible experience. Wasted the entire day having to make extra trips back and fourth between towns, having to stress about how much everything was going to come out to be (gas, mileage, etc.) and not being able to actually talk to a helpful person on the other line at Uhaul.Not to mention when we drove off from the lot initially they left the door open in the back and the metal dolly was barely held in my a screw. Luckily we stopped at Costco and saw that they had not closed or latched the door.Would not recommend this Uhaul location to anyone.

Customer service wasnt great. They rescheduled an appointment without letting us know. They did make right by us but it took too much for it to happen.

Want to make your move much more stressful due to the brazen incompetence of a UHaul staff? This is the place for you..Please do yourself a favor and avoid the Coralville Uhaul at all cost. The owner scheduled my reservation and it was days of headaches while trying to move out of state because he is blatantly incompetent.
