Never had a problem with the service and have always been satisfied with the repairs Ive had done there. Never had any problem discussing the work needed to be done. Never received any bad attitude and have always been respected. Any price for the work has been transparent. From simple oil and antifreeze changes to tire changes and engine repairs, theyve never let me down. Been going there for over ten years. Very grateful to have as my mechanic.

Its gotta mean something if I rather travel across the bridge from NYC to find a knowledgeable and honest mechanic. They were highly recommended by my friends and after spending hundreds unnecessarily being a female driver without any knowledge of cars outside of the basics. Van Houten Auto Repair was courteous and efficient; no gimmicks and caught a couple of other things that has never been corrected by other mechanics. Im elated to drive with a peace of mind.

This place should not exist. It is like a paradox. Competent mechanics that charge very reasonable prices and do not rip you off. I would not go anywhere else and I did not for the last 10 years.

When to get a price on my Toyota sienna synthetic oil change.It looks like he had a bad day in sales,he wanted to charge me $ 110 dollars.I look at him and told him at the dealer they charge me $69.95 and another place in North Bergen that I go charge me $ 59.95 .I when there in good faith because I live 5 minutes from there, figured i give him business, I guess not ! I understand this is your place of business and I respect your price.But if you like I could come over there and show you the same maintenance work that you offer with Bill of Toyota dealer and 10-minute big Daddy oil change for a lot less ! But that okay,it is what it is !

I arranged with Bill to inspect a car for me before I purchased it from a private party. He was able to diagnose an oil leak which helped me shave a couple hundred off the price. He also gave me estimates to fix it and spent the time to go over everything with me and explain things in a way that I could understand. He also couldnt have been more accommodating with letting me store a vehicle while I drove the new one home. On top of it all it was a great price. I think Ive found my new mechanic.

I’ve had my oil changed there the past couple times. My real five star impression is when I came in with a inoperable windshield wiper on the driver’s side, and the owner made sure to check for the cheapest, most obvious fix first. It was just a loose nut, but I was relieved to receive professional help. 5/5

So been going here for years for my oil changes ( years ) I recently had an experience with Mike , I pulled in for my oil change and immediately he says 98$ I said I’ve been coming here for years and have never paid that price . I lease my vehicle and get free oil changes but choose to go here since it’s always been a pleasure . Mike states if I do the typical oil change it will void all and any warranty you have on your vehicle ???? At this point I called my husband he advised me to leave and he will get it done for me . I stayed and asked mike for my usual change . This is when he got pissed , and very nasty with me . He said don’t call him when I blow my engine from this oil change ? Really ? Yeah he said . Next the process is started he made me sign 4 different receipts, really 4 when I asked why he said because of my choice of oil ? I called my dealership and they have advised that this is. Not true and this guy is a crook . Sorry will never return again after over 10+ years and 3 vehicles . Also no next date for oil change sticker .

Best place for oil changes. Little more expensive than your run of the mill gas station but the service is superb. No car lifts, professional shop. In and out in 7 minutes . Occasional wait time but hey good things are worth waiting for.

Went for a repair with an estimate around $600. Came back for car at the end of the day and they told me after taking things apart, it was a piece of the part, not the whole thing. My bill came to less than $150. They could have simply installed the new parts and said nothing but instead they looked out for me. Hard to find honest people and these guys are for sure.

Absolutely terrific staff!I was planning to purchase a vehicle from out of state and was looking for an auto shop to perform a pre-purchase car inspection. Spoke with Billy who was incredibly accommodating. The car checked out just fine, except Billy noted a damaged outer arm covering of the passenger side mirror and suggested I have the seller fix the issue. Circled back with the seller and they expedited the fix for me, the repair probably would have costed over $800. Great catch by Billy! Additionally, after I had spoken with Billy to receive his evaluation of the car, he called me back about an hour later to suggest I should contact my makes dealership to inquire about the eligible maintenance program the vehicle might still have. I was incredibly surprised, considering how thoughtful Billy was to think of that and let me know.If I lived around the area, Id certainly make Van Houten Auto Repair my go-to shop. Fantastic staff with tremendous customer service!

I paid the owner $968.35 on 4/14/17 for a brand new air conditioner for my 2011 Ford Escape. As of 8/27/18, it isnt working and I was told by the owner I would need a new compressor because the warranty for a compressor is one year and it expired 4 months ago. Ridiculous. At first, over the phone I was quoted a price of $950 to fix it again! When I showed up with my dad, it was $570. This owner is a crook! DONT GO HERE! I would give zero stars if I could.

Originally came into Van Houton to check out the car that I purchased from out of state. The mechanics here gave it an inspection and told me that the head gasket was blown. I was upset with that and confused so I originally left a bad review. The very next day Steven called me concerned about the review that I left and offered to work with me and give me more information to help me solve my problem. Even though I left a bad review Steven was still kind to me, refunded my money for insection and gave me good advice for dealing with my newly purchased lemon. I want to personally thank Steven for his kindness and solving the problem as swift as he could. The owners and the mechanics definitely know what theyre doing here.
