I have seen three different psychiatrists/psych NPs over the course of the last 4+ Years. It’s been pretty hit or miss - first psych I had was subpar, so when I turned 21 I asked to be moved from an adolescent psychiatrist to an adult psychiatrist. The switching process was a pain. Then I had an absolutely wonderful psych NP who got me stabilized. She left (it happens) and I was transferred to another psych NP maybe two years ago? She’s is good for med checks, but our meetings are typically only 15 minutes so I can’t speak to what it might be like as a new patient. I haven’t had too many customer service issues other than sometimes my meds get sent to the wrong pharmacy. Since COVID our visits have been virtual but I prefer the convenience over driving up from Christiansburg so it’s not a problem for me. Definitely not leading psychiatry in the nation, but I’m not dead yet so I guess they’re doing a decent job.

Our son had been treated by a psychiatrist in this clinic specializing in adolescent mental health. He was a patient there for a couple of years. Then that psychiatrist left. The clinic wouldnt provide continuity of care by having another provider continue his medication management. We had to have a general practice physician continue his prescription. When he seemed to need new medication or dose, I contacted this clinic to see if they had hired a new provider for adolescents and they had. BUT they said their computer system required a referral. Even though he had been a patient for years and only had a disruption in care due to a problem on their end. Even though it was during COVID when it is hard to see doctors in person. They were unyielding in this bureaucratic, officious application of the rules of their system. How about adopting a customer service system? Notice your rating on here? Does anyone in leadership care? You are failing the community you are supposed to be serving.

My partner and I both (independently) tried to be seen here for months for anxiety & depression issues, kept being told different information every time. I dont know if its just the office staff or what but its hard to get an appointment. They refer you to their crisis line which just refers you back to the office. Thankfully we found The Cascade Group in Blacksburg and they have so far been wonderful.

Same issue as the above user. With the dismal representation of mental health professionals in the NRV, this practice should do all it can to help patients find ways to have their needs met. We are not accepting new patients is not help. (Especially when the insurance websites say that you ARE accepting new patients--and the insurance companies say its the fault of the practice for not updating.)
