I just completed the 14 Week Live Lectures for Step 1. I would say doing this course was the most important decision I made regarding my USMLE prep. Along with the excellent subject lectures, the residency related guidance and information provided to us by the advisors, group facilitators and other Kaplan students, made the overall experience invaluable! Will definitely be returning for Step 2 as well!

I came here to prepare for the USMLE step 1 exam. I attended the live lectures, used their online resources, and combined that with First Aid and Uworld. I got a high score. The staff are very nice and kind. The majority of the lecturers for the live course were really good, and the management were responsive to feedback whenever we faced issues.

Their goal is not for you to succeed, all they care about is getting paid. They’re not fair to all students, contradicting their own rules.I think if they think you don’t deserve a lunch break as they do there’s something wrong :)At the end, my advice is know your rights and don’t let them stress you.

Kaplan test prep Chicago is probably the only institute in chicago that holds international medical graduates hostage to their classes. It keeps bringing in new classes that require mandatory attendance even after a 22 hour per week attendance rule is in place. The best part is they call these classes critical thinking advising and weekly advancement sessions in which they teach physicians about short and long term memory techniques. Whats more bizzare is that they send u official warnings for the week, so it doesnt matter whether youve missed a single class or all the classes. Technically you can miss all the classes for the week and not even complete 22 hours and still get the same result. They threaten to report and deport you if u get 3 warnings so future students, please dont expect any help, assistance or leniency. Even if youre not feeling well you have to let them know a few days in advance so they can make the necessary changes. In short this is a nice place to burn money as long as you have lots of it. 👎

For the step 2 CK course, the majority of the professors are amazing. It will speed up your prep time and Qbank answering ability tremendously. Epidemiology course needs work, especially if your bases for step 1 in biostat/epi are not that strong, the professor just read from the lecture notes. The obgyn professor does provide some good clinical insight and stories, but for the most part it didn’t exactly complement the lecture notes (which she read off of) too much, more hospital stories for a “wow” effect. The Internal medicine professors (all of them) were equally as good, answering Qbank style (and some IM Board level) questions and doing it in a timely fashion. Pediatrics professor was great but covered the material way too fast (needs a half a week if not an entire week added to the program). Surgery professor was also amazing. All in all, the in center experience was amazing. If you get outside of yourself and studying every once in a while, you meet great friends and opportunities through it all. Make sure you know you’re going to work, as if you were in a downtown Chicago desk job. The advisors were especially helpful and made a great deal of effort to have small social events like the Halloween party + pizza for us. Get outside of yourself and work hard and you’ll find the the experience will be amazing.
