Honestly I like this place a lot. My only complaint is the employee Regina who has made me feel so uncomfortable by essentially trying to guilt trip me into buying one of the Tshirts I guess she sells. She comes across a bit arrogant as well. I just want to feel comfortable coming in to get tested but when I’m being hounded to buy someone’s merchandise that isn’t even associated with the Center. It just leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. I may seek other places to get tested going forward. I would like to add that I was nervous coming forward with this because of how scary Regina acts online towards people.

The receptionist and workers is fairly polite, they can appear as though they have an attitude or arrogant, based on who they’re talking to. The walk in HIV testing is great. Been going here for years and testing has been fine. The location is in a decent place because it’s a queer area, something that I’m use to and prefer. The workers do try to find other resources based on your needs. I would just recommend an improvement on their niceness/politeness.

A great place for the gay community, one of a kind in the nation and perhaps the world, who knows? They have wonderful services that are mostly free. Amazing senior building and services. The language classes, meditation, and support groups are fantastic. Wish they had a parking place. I love visiting here.

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. It was great to see the youth hanging out in the ground level community space. They seemed very comfortable. Great photo exhibits...one of Pride Parade from the 1970s and from 2 or 3 other more recent years. More naked every year. 😉The 2nd was a photo display of transgender women. Lovely and surprising. I love the architecture and the feel of the place. They have the largest peace plant I have ever seen.

Not my favorite place to visit when I was looking for local information on the LGBT Community for a project Ive been working on across country. Chicago LGBT Community Center had people that need to retire, because theyre not the faces or personality of equality, acceptance, nor building bridges of opportunities and community. Id give a one star, but since I had front row parking, and I was able to get reading material I gave the extra star, but the service quality is of one in an international brothel- disturbing yet necessary.

Regarding the youth program. Likely the worst customer service experience I have ever had. My son and I have both left multiple voicemails and emails to the youth service director several times over a period of weeks. We have never heard back. We had the same experience about 3 years ago and when we went there. Nobody ever got back to us. Terrible.

I have been going to Center on Halsted for years now, engaging at their community events, youth drop-ins, and of course, Whole Foods. Most of the staff that work here you see on a daily basis and they are some of the most kind, respectful, and passionate workers that I have seen at a community center. I am also glad that they have gotten new tables with charger ports for devices and they seem to be having events more regularly. A great place that is packed to the brim with diversity.

Too many rules for supposedly helping out the community. Seats upstairs are only for appointments only but theres no sign. You only find out when someone comes and tells you you cant seat there. Computers lab schedule should be open for whoever wants to use it not just seniors. And when its reserved for seniors theres no one there waiting computer time for others who need to use it.

This place is really cool for meetings or an afternoon work session or place to kill some time out of the elements.First floor has some public table space that is at a premium. Lots of people working or meeting. Decent place to scarf down some quick eats from the adjoining Whole Foods.Second floor has private rooms for rent, and some public work spaces but you have to be let in by security.Third floor seemed to be a big open quiet space with a few chairs. I didnt explore further, kind of discovered it by accident when the elevator went up instead of down.Park in Whole Foods garage at your own risk up to 2 hours so long as you make a purchase.

Awful experience. In an attempt to volunteer my services I was met by one individual who was in charge of the volunteers of the senior center who was gossiping about other volunteer teachers, was never responded to by the youth center leader, was passed off multiple times by the development coordinator, was told that alcohol was a good way to get people to donate in the volunteer orientation. I can definitely see why so many people I have met over the years do not recommend this center anymore. Sounds like it used to be a great place. Im out.

My visit to discuss health & housing community opportunities with Ms. Britta Larson ended up the worst day of my life. Her insensitivity, rudeness and inconsiderate behavior and attitude had my blood boiling. I am a national trained Medicare Regional Director and have never had an encounter of pure racism, injustice and unfairness in my lifetime. This woman needs cultural & diversity training and should be removed from her position as the Senior Services Director. I did not want to even give one star. The upper staff must allow this behavior due to no one called me after I made calls to request an investigation of this racist behavior at this Center. This should be an open inclusive atmosphere for all. Unfortunately, it is not. I rate a big ZERO!

Such a great place for the seniors, to gather ,eat, share, stories, discuss the problems of the World. The meals are provided by the City of Chicago food program. The volunteers add to it at times to make it a little more special. With the support if Whole Foods, we open our cafe area at 10am, offering coffee and tea and sweet treats donated from Whole Foods. Lunch is served at 11:30. We would prefer a donation of 1.50 but we turn no one away. Must be 60 +though. The Center on Addison(CoA) offers much more than a lunch and fellowship. Discussion groups, social workers ( interns) assistance with job search, housing, healthcare oh so much. The CoA is an open, friendly, Gay, Lesbian, transgender inviting place for ALK seniors to just be.
