Lacks profession and control of establishment, a bit nasty, poorly managed, rude and disorder staff members and consumers. I would rather go back to sleeping outside due to the level of care that facility is ran with met the manager today and shes terrible as well hospitality sucks overly hard boiled eggs all jokes aside.

What a blessed place. So much hurting meeting so much caring. This place takes the lowest of the low and gives them food and a place to sleep, without demanding anything. People can stay here as long as they want (some for decades) as long as they meet a few simple rules, like no violence, no major intoxication and they come and go on time. The night managers are extremely caring and know 100’s of homeless people, not only by name but much about there life.I’m blessed to meet and help this part of society that most people would rather avoid.

This place has gotten much worse than it ever was. Im surprised it is still open. Infested with bugs. Absolutely infested. Intolerable even for one nights sleep. You are better off outside than trying to sleep in this place.

A place to lay your head when you dont have one. Wouldnt recommend it to anyone if they could avoid it, and suggest you avoid it at all costs because once you get to the point where you need a shelter its hard to come back... only been on the street for a week but have talked to guys (and women) whove been doing it for years. Make good decisions with your life. Or live in fear of bedbugs and hope for a free meal...

The staff was very nice and straight to the point about the rules, but the beds......the bed had either blood stains or bedbug droppings on them. They gave you clean linen to put on top of the mess....I couldnt do it.... I had to leave....I would rather sleep in my car!!!!! Also, that picture is not how the actual church / shelter look like either...😡😠😠😷

Franciscan Outreach was a place that I seeked out, after not hearing back from Breakthrough in East Garfield Park. I applied over a months time for a volunteer spot at Breakthrough, and still have not heard back, which made me contemplate why. All I wanted to do was volunteer my extra time in-between working my normal job to help those in need, and Franciscan Outreach has given me that opportunity. My volunteer application was approved in less than 48 hours at Franciscan Outreach.Another thing that made me excited about Franciscan Outreach was that they had a location within East Garfield Park, which is what I overall wanted because the its closer, plus the homeless population in this neighborhood has truly suffered throughout many decades, and what better start and way to give back to this community.I have to say that after setting my first volunteer date, it was very heartwarming reading majority of the Google reviews from those that have been serviced, but distasteful reading some of the reviews from certain locals living in the neighborhood sector of Franciscan House of Mary & Joseph.Outside of serving 200 + on my first evening at Franciscan House of Mary & Joseph, I learned quite a bit about the shelter itself, and the staff that keeps things flowing. In the meantime, I look forward to doing more with Franciscan Outreach on my days off from work.Thomas Gouard

This is the ONLY place in Chicago for the homeless to go. trust me, I had to check around for my friend, and thank god for this place, Chicago needs more like it. I mean it is a negative that you have to wake up so early in the morning to leave. The only reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars is because there is crime around that area...while my friend was staying there, someone was stabbed - outside of the building when they were let out in the morning and some of the homeless did try to steal from the others.
