Angie and her team altered my wedding dress, and it turned out great. I came in with a dress I bought on sale that was much too large for me, which meant alterations would cost more than the dress! (Something I didnt realize at the time of purchase—Angie informed me that the price of alterations depend on how many seams they need to undo to perform the alteration.) Even so, I think Alva Tailor shop gave me a decent price for the amount of work that needed to be done. Angie even agreed to my request to use the extra material from the hem to create a strap around the neck (at no additional charge). It took about 4-6 fittings. During the process, I wasnt sure how it would turn out, but in the last two fittings, I could tell they did an awesome job -- so I recommend being patient and trusting the expertise of these tailors, who specialize in wedding dresses.

I used Alva Tailor for my Beholden wedding dress. It was a tricky dress to alter as it was very thing and simple but the seamstress at Alva did a great job and was able to hide cups in the top. She also added an additional layer of material in the slits under my underarms so that it was slightly more conservative. Would recommend for any wedding dress or formal dress.

Great service and very friendly! Had a quick turnaround time too. They had quoted me $65 to hem a bridesmaid dress before my appointment and honored that even though it should have been $75.

Kathie, Fernando, and Angelique make a top-notch team. (I think there was another woman that was there earlier in the process, but I didnt catch her name.) Their customer service was amazing; from my initial phone call to my final fitting and pick-up. The team treated me, my dress, and my mother(!) with such patience and compassion.They were always kind and professional, and not to mention incredibly talented. I always had fun visiting. Fernando and Kathie made my too large bridesmaid dress fit like a glove! The dress material consisted of sequins and tool, which I know can be a pain to work around, & they handled it beautifully. Alterations were turned around quickly & it was a relief not worrying about getting the dress back in time. Not only will I recommend their shop to friends, but Ill also return if I find myself in need of alterations again!

Kathie, Angelique and Fernando perfected every element of my dress and nailed the something old - from the crown of my moms wedding veil thing. It was a multi-iteration process without a doubt, but to get it perfect they went above and beyond, and as it turns out the material my dress was made out of was not easy to work with. I would go back at any point, they were a joy and so talented.

Fernando and Angie are true professionals and experts in their field! They did an amazing job on my wedding dress alterations and went above and beyond to repair a torn veil I was borrowing from a friend, at no extra charge. They also evaluated a fur shawl I have torn that needs repair and they were able to recommend to me a colleague and I cannot recommend them enough!

Horrible and rude service, I asked a simple question of if they were taking appointments because I hadn’t seen any phone numbers to contact them and they glared at me like I was stupid and abruptly told me no. Rude and snotty didn’t even get to see how good they were at alterations.

I brought my winter coat in because the zipper was not working properly. The staff were quick to help me and knew exactly what the problem was. Excellent experience!

Absolutely loved working with Alva Tailor Shop on my wedding dress alterations! My gown had intricate beading all throughout the top and was almost a size too big, but they were able to alter it perfectly. I was so comfortable on my wedding day and it looked amazing.

I’m very pleased with my first experience at Alva. Most importantly, they did a high-quality job on my clothing (shirt, formal pants, and formal topcoat with thermal lining). The pricing was very reasonable. They were so kind, and they took their time with me to be sure I was getting everything I wanted out of my alterations. Fernando is incredible and extremely skilled at what he does. I had a nightmare situation- the place I bought my wedding dress from charged me hundreds for alterations, all so they can give me an ugly uneven neckline (they said they could cut it down a bit as it was irritating my collarbone). I also asked for it to remain illusion neckline, and they used a thick piece of thread from another dress that was very noticeable. I was devastated- I thought my beautiful dress was ruined. When I expressed my concerns to them they basically brushed me off and said there was nothing they could do. I researched best seamstresses in Chicago and found Alvas Tailor Shop recommended. I came here, only 2 weeks before my wedding date left. Fernando not only fixed the neckline to exactly how I dreamed of it- he fixed other areas they botched that I hadnt even noticed. Fernando and team are AMAZING at what they do!! I was in communication with Fernando after a recommendation from the bridal shop I bought my wedding dress at. Since my wedding was 3 months away, the dress was rushed with hopes of making it a few weeks prior to the date. Unfortunately, there were some issues along the way and I received the dress just 1 week before the big day! Fernando was gracious enough to still fit me and I visited the shop 4 times in less than a week so they could make it fit absolutely perfect. By the final fitting I felt like a million bucks and owe so much of that to this team. Super friendly, efficient, talented and honestly, reasonable too!

Wow, I cant say enough wonderful things about my experience working with this shop! I had purchased multiple dresses for a wedding (hoping that one of them would work) but when all of them arrived too long, I knew that Id need some help with alterations. I called to request a same-day appointment and spoke with an incredibly warm and friendly person on the phone. When I arrived, they were quick and efficient and agreed to help do the alterations within the week (which was incredible!). I will never go anywhere else as long as I live in Chicago, this place is amazing. He fixed a broken zipper on my wedding dress in ten minutes and despite his expertise wouldnt let me pay.
