My family and I were booked to stay at this property with an employee rate. I received an email at 2:37pm on check in day that we were being relocated to the Homewood Suites with no other information as to the specific hotel, check in process, etc. I called shortly after for clarification and they told me it was the Homewood Suites behind the Courtyard and that they provided a hot breakfast. Again, no further information was provided besides that the new hotel had all our information and we’d be good to check in.I received another email at 3:23pm asking that I call about our stay. I was driving at the time, so didn’t respond until 5:08pm asking what else they needed. I received a response at 7:32pm, again while I was driving and less than an hour before our arrival, stating that our rate would be more than double what we were paying originally. Had I been notified earlier, I could’ve found another hotel for much cheaper. We spoke to the manager on duty at this facility that evening, but she wasn’t willing to offer anything to us. We were told all other Marriotts in the area were sold out, but we knew that wasn’t true because we found available Explore rates for much cheaper while we were standing there that evening. We’ve been in the Marriott family for 10 years now and have never been treated this way. Typically when someone is walked to another hotel they aren’t expected to pay 3 times the rate they were supposed to pay. Not to mention the hotel we were moved to (and paid way more for) was dirty and old. We stay at Marriott properties for a reason - they are always nice and clean. It’s unfortunate that you treat Marriott employees and family members this way. It makes me wonder how your regular guests are treated.

First of wanna say the housekeeping crew in general here is amazing! Everyone always smiles at you . And seems happy. Today i was visiting a friend and happened to hear very encouraging worlds between 2 house keepers as i was waiting for the elevator i think there names was “darkita and Rochelle” she was telling her basically “ life is to short to me making rash Decisions regardless of your age” and i would like to say those kind words really touched my life also! So thanks again lady’s! Front staff was very kind as well.

I’ve stayed at this hotel a few times now, and it is tied with the Courtyard by Marriott in Pooler, GA as one of my favorites along Interstate 95. The beds are exceptionally soft. They cradle your body. It’s like sleeping in zero gravity. I always stay in a room with a king size bed. The room also has a decent size sofa/sleeper, if needed. The AC works well and the thermostat is accurate. The tubs could be updated, but I absolutely love the enormous(probably 65”) tv. The spacious lobby is also nice and relaxing. The staff is very friendly and extremely accommodating. When I arrived for my most recent visit, a gentleman from housekeeping saw I was beyond exhausted. He took my bags for me and brought them to my room. I was so grateful for his help. I highly recommend this hotel.

Definitely starting to show its age, but the property is clean, which is the most important thing! They put us in a handicap room on the ground floor so its difficult to review. We still had a regular bathtub and the bathroom itself was not accessible. Just the main door, and there was space in the room for a wheelchair to move around. Big tv for a hotel room compared to most other hotels Ive stayed in lately. The ceilings were very high, which was odd. They have a nice back deck to relax on and a pool that is closed due to covid still.Breakfast is grab and go in the lobby.

1) trash piling up outside of front door. Multiple days, same trash. Piles growing daily. 2) musty, dank smell. Unless it’s laundry day. Then there is an overpowering chemical small. 3) noise level, even at 2am. Front desk staff not responsive. Noise continues. 4) smoking coming from room next door. Either smoking and non smoking rooms are side by side, or policies are not enforced. 5) no microwave in room, and no breakfast in the hotel.Gross building. Noisy guests and inefficient staff. Don’t stay here. Pretty much anywhere else has to be better.

We used the Courtyard by Marriott at Chester as our hotel for out-of-town guests for our wedding. Naimah (Sales Coordinator) was so helpful, professional, and accommodating throughout our planning process. She gave us a tour of the rooms beforehand, got us a suite for the bride and groom, and arranged for a continental breakfast for our guests. The rooms were well-kept and the breakfast was perfect. The icing on the cake was the Courtyard kept the lobby bar open until midnight for our guests to be able to celebrate a bit longer without disturbing other hotel guests by going up to their rooms. We very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Courtyard at Chester to anyone looking for a hotel in the area!

Despite the sign requiring masks to be worn, no one, including staff was wearing masks. The refrigerator in the room was unplugged. The sheets were damp and cold, and when we asked for a new set, the staff took an hour to bring an incomplete set to the door. When we went to change the sheets on the bed, we found an empty condom box.Having been a long time fan and customer of the Marriott, I have come to expect a certain standard for the Courtyard brand, and this hotel fails to meet that standard on every level. The staff was not courteous and the service was subpar. The only satisfactory part was the cancellation without charge as we moved to the Comfort in across the street just after midnight.Marriott, if this is what you want us to expect for a Courtyard, I need to change my Loyalty Program.

I thought they were doing us a favor for putting us on the first floor but the elevator was broken. 1st the room had a horrible smell like dirty laundry, come to realize they put us right behind the laundry room. 2nd there is an ant infestation, 3rd during the stay we brought a candle to cover the smell because I didn’t want to have to go through the hassle of moving my whole family which includes a 4 and 11 year old boys to another room and at check out the customer service attendant Jennifer accused me of covering something up and she was right that disgusting smell and I’m pretty sure she was implying that we may have smoked in the room. After 8 to 10 hours driving each day from CT to CA we stopped at Courtyards by Marriott in Chester (VA), Duluth (GA), Rustom (LA), Odessa (TX), and Tucson (CA) to find consistently clean and spacious rooms with appropriate appointments and excellent bistro food offerings. The brussels sprouts and meatball appetizers. quesadilla and whole grain bowls were consistently very good. The staff was professional and knowledgeable. It was always a welcome end to a long day of driving. Although we always left before breakfast we could grab something to go before we would make our first stop. First off, I find it kinda lame that they’ve copied and pasted the same reply to all the earlier reviews. They claim a commitment but are too lazy to read the actual reviews and give a personal response? That in itself should cost them a star or two in my mind. When you first walk into the lobby you can already spell the chlorine. We stayed in the lower level and walking to the room is like walking through a mustard gas war zone.Aside from that, the room decor was nice, it’s pretty quiet, and the minimal contact we had with staff was adequate. If staying here I’d recommend you ask for a room on a higher floor away from the pool. Especially someone who might be sensitive to poisonous fumes (which is what chlorine creates).Let’s see if they copy and paste their canned response in reply to this too. 😐

The Courtyard is nice at first glance but has to clean up their act. We needed a sofa bed for children or 1 adult and child to sleep. The mattress was horrible. It was stained and smelled. The bathroom toilet was so loud you hated to flush at night and you could hear the toilet on the next room as well. No microwave to heat food for kids. The ice machine was broke on our floor the whole time so we had to go to other floors for ice. This is a very nice hotel. It is very chic. I was impressed from the time I entered the door. My husband encountered professional interaction with the staff here. We were here for two days. The first night I took a shower, but the next day I wanted to take a bath but the tub had not been cleaned. On the first day, I drank two cups of coffee, using both packs of creamer and sugar. My thoughts are that the cleaning crew focuses more on the rooms where people have checked out. My suggestion would be for the hotel to provide a spot check to rooms each day for small things customers might need, like having the tub cleaned and if coffee, sugar, and creamer need to be replenished. Just suggestions, otherwise, we had great experience.

The beds are comfortable and there is a covered refrigerator with a pull out desk for working. Also, there is a twin pull out bed that is great for kids. The bar and breakfast at the main lobby that you can pay for.Cons: the screen door that leads to the landscaped area was off track and fell completely off when opened or closed. The hot tub, which we only put our feet in due to a bunch of kids being in, was lukewarm and didnt work (no bubbles).Overall, would recommend. Had a frightening experience the last time I stayed here. Two men tried to come into my room at approximately 2:30 am while I was sleeping. The only thing that stopped them was the latch on the door. The noise of the latch catching woke me up-terrified! I told them through the door without opening it that they must have the wrong room. They tried to convince me to open the door and take the key they had, which had unlocked the door. They said the front desk gave them the key. I declined to unlatch and open the door and instead told them I would call the front desk. When I called the front desk, the rep that answered did not seem surprised or dismayed; he gave me a quick “I’m sorry” and told me my key would work in the morning. I was terrified! It was very very hard to go back to sleep. I was alone in my room...what would have happened if I hadn’t latched my door?... In the morning, with my hands full of coffee, water and food for the work day ahead, I walked up to my room to find out my key didn’t work. So I walked back down to the front desk. The rep seemed to be the same person who had answered the phone at approximately 2:30 am. He again seemed to act like this was not a big deal; he quickly said sorry and handed me a new key. Upon checkout, after that harrowing night, I was charged the full price for the room - I was astonished....I never write reviews, but thought I needed to share this experience with other travelers traveling alone. Please remember to latch your door behind you!

The water int he shower in my room only stayed hot for 2 minutes and then went to cool. I was told there were multiple restaurants that were within walking distance of the hotel and that is true if you want to cross a 4 lane highway. Courtyard Marriott in Chester, VA is a great hotel. I have stayed there for the past 5 years, about twice a month. The hotel staff is friendly and makes me feel as if it is a second home. The hotel is newly remodeled, has a great food service, and is reasonably priced. The beds are comfy, it is clean, and the internet speed is great. Lots of desk space and light in the rooms. The bathrooms are clean, and is surrounded by many chain restaurants that are sufficient for my needs. It isnt downtown, so there are not the special restaurant choices you would get in Richmond, but that is not my requirement. I want convenience of travel to my business destination, less traffic, plenty of parking (I hate valet), and just need a room and a bed. They have many breakfast choices, and a bar for the evening with light dinner choices. The breakfast is not a grab and go buffet - you do have to order. They have a market with grab and go options. The rooms have a refrigerator and coffee pot as well. It is a good, basic hotel which meets my needs.

You would think that with all the competition out there they would at least have complimentary breakfast or at least fresh coffee in the lobby. I had to pay for a coffee in the lobby. I know they have those coffee makers in the room but they just dont taste as good as fresh brewed. Then the points I had accumulated for one free room had expired. For a person that doesnt travel but once a year I was looking forward to a free room for one night. But the points I had accumulated for that room expired. Why do you need to have the rewards programs if you cant use them when needed. Not happy about that. So I will not be staying at a Marriott hotel again. So many other hotels that are just as clean and offer many more services than they do.

Im considering not to stay with Marriott ever again. First, Marriott residence inn cancelled our reservation last minute, and sent me and my coworker to courtyard. I have the email as proof. One of the employees named Miriam didnt seem to want to help us, and claimed that they were fully booked as well, until the manager came out and helped us. Later on, more of my coworkers arrived, and everyone had issue with their reservation at residence inn. But everyone was then transferred to courtyard. So why did Miriam say they were completely booked in the first place?? Also, we asked if courtyard served breakfast. Miriams immdiate answer was breakfast is not free!. But did we even mention free breakfast? This entire experience is pretty surprising. First loosing our reservation that we made a week in advance, then getting help from someone who made us feel like they are doing us a favor, when they were supposed to be correcting their own mistake. If its an experience with a 2 star motel, then maybe it wouldnt be so surprising. However, coming from Marriott, a reputable brand-name, and not just one person, but bad customer service experience for our whole group of four people, I can only say I dont have a good explanation.

I have my DL where we share a house and last name, in addition to the fact that we book hotels for each other frequently and this has never happened. So I had to be embarrassed at the check in, getting permission from my husband. Rest of the stay was uneventful. But as I was going downstairs to check out, maintenance was getting out of the elevator as I was getting in. The floor was wet. Not a few drops, but WET. I almost slipped and had to steady myself. I mentioned it the the cleaning lady who came in with me, and she said huh and shrugged. Thats not the answer to something that could injure the next person getting in.

So, most likely that piece of nail was there before I came, which means that the sheets were no changed. That is one of the most disgusting things. I didn’t complain because was my last night. The company I work for always stay there and we have people traveling all the time. I will be making a compaint to the organization. This is not acceptable.

This was the first time I had stayed at the Courtyard Richmond Chester and it wont be the last. The check in staff were very pleasant and efficient in explaining all the amenities available. The room was very large and the bed was very comfortable. I had a good night sleep without any disturbances. The breakfast was outstanding and the service was first rate. I would recommend the Courtyard Richmond Chester to anyone.

My wife and I wanted to just get away and celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary so we stayed at Courtyard Richmond Chester. Best experience ever, the staff was amazing and the suit/room was beautiful, clean and the staff went above and beyond. I highly recommend to anyone!

This hotel is nice and has everything you need for a good stay. You can tell certain things have been updated while others have not. For example, the room had updated features (TV,decor) but the bathroom wasnt like it had shown in the pictures (a walk-in shower; a 1950 toilet paper dispenser). Also, Ive stayed at cheaper hotels that had better coffee makers in the room than this one did, although I can see why this would not be important to some. The staff was not as friendly and outgoing as other places weve stayed, and I also think that for the price you pay they should have a little free breakfast like most other hotels. All in all, the hotel was clean and we had no complaints other than these small details we noticed.

After my wife and I checked in to the Courtyard for a quick getaway for rest and relaxation. We decided to go downstairs and try a drink at the bar. My wife ordered and simple Margarita and the gentlemen behind the bar first pulled out a booklet to figure out how to mix a Margarita, after 15 or so minutes they came to the conclusion that they didnt have any Margarita mix and the other ingredients were sparse. So not having a drink my wife and I figured it would be nice to try the whirlpool tub in the pool area. So we went back to the room changed into our swimsuits and headed to the spa area. And low and behold when I turned on the whirlpool there was barely a bubble. We utilized the phone and called hotel staff to only be told that the lack of bubbles and barely functioning spa was a normal factor. Next after the second disappointment, we tried the pool. And to our disbelief the sound of the fire alarm rang throughout the building. We had to evacuate the building to a courtyard where we was discombobulated and confused as to where to go and in our swimsuits. Then to find out it was smoke/burnt food in the kitchen of the hotel. It was suppose to be a relaxing evening that turned in by far one of the worst stays that I could have experienced. I attempted to make a romantic evening after from the kids for my wife and it turned into extremely negative experience.

I have been coming to Richmond on a monthly basis since Nov 2018. This was one of my better trips and the staff at the Courtyard Marriott have always been superb! Without question the people on the staff make this property unique and a high quality place to stay.

Staff was nice enough and location is convenient. Room had a funky smell, but was otherwise clean. Fitness equipment needs some help. It was ok for an overnight stay while on a long road trip.

My wife has awful experience here. Front desk gave someone that was not her, 2 guys in their twenties, keys to her room. They tried to get in luckily she had the latch closed. They asked her to open it anyway. Horrible ordeal in the model of the night. I followed up with Marriott corporate and the hotel both promised to get back to us “immediately”. Never heard from either. Called manager back at the hotel he ignored my calls
