Stay away from this company!!We had ARS of Richmond install new mini-splits in our home right before COVID. During the install, they damaged our roof which resulted in thousands of dollars in repairs, which their insurance company would not reimburse. The install took a week longer than they estimated and there were many other issues during install, I dont think their crews knew what they were doing.Now that we have had the units for about 18 months, we are now experiencing water damage in every wall where the units are installed. We are looking to have a separate company come our and re-install the entire system. I will never use this company again and would rate them as 0 Stars, if I could.Beware, I would not recommend this company!!!

We spent $18,000 getting a new (actually two) “Carrier” heating and air conditioners installed the beginning of August. We noticed that only one side of our house was staying cool, as it was supposed to. It seemed happen off and on. A repairman came, and after having looked at the system, thought that the one system needed freeon. He poured more in and left. It only took about a week or so when it wasn’t working again. I really thought we had a lemon, and would need a whole new unit. The same repairman came and (hopefully) fixed it for good. He worked on it for over two hours. Turns out the guys who originally installed it didn’t do a very good job, making sure everything was connected correctly. The repairman who came to our house and fixed it, “Edgar,” is extremely knowledgeable and very accommodating. He really wants the customers to be satisfied. He is a very nice young man.

Unfortunately I have to take my 5 star rating back because I love my normal Service Tech, Chris B. Yesterday ARS had to send an “install crew” out because I have a leak inside my wall from my unit. I was originally told between 12 and 2 then it was 4 then it was 4:30 and no one ever called nor did they show up. I have had to have a contractor come out cutout my wall, take up some flooring, dry out the area, and put out dehumidifiers as well. The contractor cannot come back and fix this area until ARS comes out and fixes the leak. I definitely do not know anything about HVAC but why would you put a joint on the inside of the wall? Wouldn’t it be better to put it on the outside just Incase it leaks? Especially if you’re that close to the outside?? I have had to file a claim with my homeowners insurance to cover the cost because ARS said they are not responsible, that’s what the first girl I talked to told me when I called Tuesday. She was in the Chesapeake office and said that everyone in Richmond was out to lunch and I could not hold them responsible, do not insult her intelligence etc. So I have given all of ARS’ information to my insurance company and told them they can go after ARS if they want I really do not care anymore. This install has been a nightmare from the beginning. Hence ARS has had to extend my warranty another year! The units were not installed properly from the start and I have had problem after problem! I even had a tech break a piece off of one of the units, not Chris! I have had to do after hour calls and was told someone would be out at a certain time and no one ever showed up or called, I’m beginning to think that this is ARS’ motto... We will give you a time but we won’t show up till the next day and we won’t call and we don’t care! If I had it to do over again I wouldn’t use this company. ARS has showed me time and time again that they do not care about their customers. They care about making the sale and once they have your money they flip you the middle finger. RUN as fast as you can from this company! They don’t care about their customers and they certainly don’t care how some of their people speak to their customers.

The serviceman was very polite and professional. HE PERFORMED THE TUNE UP ,BUT HAD TO USE MY LADDER INSTEAD OF HIS OWN.THE ONLY THING ABOUT THE VISIT WAS AT THE END ,HE PROCEEDED TO OPEN A BOOK OF SERVICES THAT HE RECOMENDED I DO. Your technician, Therence, is awesome! He installed a new duct line at my home today and I am extremely pleased. He was punctual, knowledgeable, personable, and professional. When he entered my home he had his shoe coverings and mask on which I appreciated. If I ever need another repair or replacement, he will be the guy i ask for. Stuck behind one of their drivers on 64. Really irritated because the Van clearly says limited to 65mph yet this genius is riding in the left lane in a 70pmh zone with a mile long stretch of cars behind him and all he had to do was move over into the right lane. Starts to make me wonder if there not bright enough to drive a vehicle and have common courtesy on then road I dont know that I would want them in my home dealing with something mechanical.

The scheduling department was very timely and friendly. Shawn, the tech, was great too. He was very professional, polite and patient. I did not know where all the systems were at he needed to get to and I also had 2 filters in backwards that he kindly fixed for me. He let me about a possible issue in the attic and walked me through things when he was all done. Highly recommend!

The technician that serviced my equipment today gets 5 stars because he is the first in 4 years that actually tried to diagnose the problem. The company he works for does not get 5 stars, maybe 2 stars if that. The equipment was installed 4 years ago and has required multiple service calls for repair none of which were without a service charge. I do not feel that the company has been helpful in diagnosing or correcting problems with a new, rather expensive heating/cooling system.

Our hvac unit stopped working. We were told a tech would come between 4-8pm the next day. By 7:45 we had not heard anything, so I called dispatch and they said someone would reach out shortly to reschedule for the next day. I received no contact, was completely blown off, and opted for Michael and Sons the next morning. A tech came out within 3 hours on a Saturday - AND it was cheaper than ARS!!! Save yourself some wasted time and a headache and just call Michael and Sons.

They were quick to come out and the guy that did the quote was friendly and professional. We decided to go with ARS and happily cut them a check.Once they deposited the check, our experience quickly changed.Two months went by and they did not answer phone calls. Did not call back when they said they would. Did not follow up with us to tell us there was an issue with shipping.I got in touch with the regional manager and he made more promises they failed to keep. Again, I was told someone would call me and, of course, they never did. Then the manager started avoided calls. After two months and many headaches, we were able to get our deposit back.Not worth the hassle and headache. They are quick to deposit a check but slow to deliver service.

ARS had me sold over 5 years ago when I had to replace my entire heat pump system. The salesman was very professional and not pushy at all. They gave me a deal far better than any of the other contractors that came out to estimate the job. Installation went without a hitch, and 5 years later, even the service tech Shawn, that comes out to inspect the system every Fall / Spring is awesome! I have referred several co-workers to ARS, and I will continue to do so!

The technician arrived when scheduled and cleaned our split unit. After completing the maintenance, the unit was not functioning properly. The technician could not fix the problem, and we were told that his supervisor would dispatch someone to repair our unit the following day. It has been three weeks and sill no one has come and after several messages, we are waiting to hear from ARS. Very dissatisfied!

We had a new Carrier heat pump system installed in December, 2019. It ran great until January, 2020 when the system shut down & would not restart. Jamal the technician came the next day & discovered a faulty thermostat. After replacing it, the system has worked flawlessly. Today Jamal was back to perform a spring checkup & cleaning. He is a very professional, knowledgeable & polite young man. We will continue to request him for all our heat pump needs & would highly recommend him to others with their needs.

Late Saturday night my water heater rusted out an dumped 50 gals of water into my home. I rushed home from North Carolina on Sunday and went right to home depot to set up a water heater installation. I was helped my an employee and because it was after 12 I was told that my installation would be done the next day. At 8am the following day I call ARS to confirm that someone would be at my home to install a water heater that day. They said some one would arrive between 12 and 2. No one showed up. I called them back, whoops they miss keyed the entry but dont worry, someone will arrive by 4. No one shows up. I get a phone call from a guy who says that he was supposed to call to set up an appointment but there was no way it would be that day. (we work in hot kitchens, day 2 with no showers). I told him that we have to get to work and he assures me that they will be there by 11am. No one shows. I call and ask for a manager, he apologizes and tells me a tech is on the way to my house. He told me that he was sorry and that he is going to make it right. He also said he would call or text me to make sure the tech was there. The tech and water heater didnt arrive until 1:40 and the manager never called me. They said the call center was in a different place and the girls there always make promises they cant keep. I paid $1400 (ARS employees where quick to agree that 2 pipes and a plug is a quick job to cost that much) to have a same day installation that took 3 days. I am beyond disappointed with my experience. I was lied to, jerked around and over charged.

I wish I could give a lower rating than one star. BEWARE of this company. I will say that the people on the phone (local and corporate office) and the techs were polite and well mannered. But the service I received was terrible! This is a long story! They did the installation of my HVAC unit in 2016. It is only 4 years old. It has never gotten my entire house cool or heated. My old 17 year old unit did a better job. During the summer of 2020 my AC went out. I called ARS and scheduled an appointment. Two men came out the next day. They found that I had a Freon leak, charged me to find where the leak was, to repair the leak, and refill the Freon. They could not do the repair the same day, but had to come back a second day. It was still not working. I called and I was supposed to have a Tech come between 1-4 and NO ONE SHOWED UP. I called again and was told that there was no one scheduled to work that day. The next day someone came and he said that he was working the previous day. I later found out that the person who was supposed to come to my house quit during the day. They could have called to let me know that they were not going to come. The tech who came said I needed a new capacitor. More money later, it still was not working. After this I started getting the voice mail when I called. I ended up having to call another company who fixed the repair that was done poorly which caused other parts to break. That is when the real difficulty began. I called the corporate office to request a refund of my money. It took a very long time and multiple phone calls before I received my money. I did not ask for a full refund. I only asked them for what it cost me to have the other company repair their errors. Thankfully, Automatic Climate was able to repair their errors. They also indicated that the reason my house doesn’t cool/heat well was probably because I needed a bigger unit than the one that was recommended and installed by ARS.

Ive been using ARS for a year. They recently installed a heat pump in my home. Their sales person (Randy) was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. I originally had them in for a furnace repair and hadnt intended to upgrade, but Randy did his job, sold me a system, and cut me a deal that was discounted so much, I have a hard time believing that they made money. Installation was fast, competently performed, and I couldnt be happier with the courtesy I experienced from the technicians, Mark and Jed. Mark even installed a new thermostat on my downstairs system. Thank you, Gentlemen. The whole process suggests that they genuinely care about their customers. Highly recommended!

I’m not quite sure where to begin.I don’t understand how they can do “same day” installs when you request a call and it takes 2 tries to request an install and then for you to finally call them to get the installation started. Then it takes 2 days to get someone out just to do a “consult” and then another few days to do the install. The entire time they were aware to call my fiancé and not me yet not once did he receive a call and instead they called me multiple times and I had to text him to call them back since I was working.Day of install... technician calls at 9am complaining about how the company didn’t have what he needed and needed “to drive halfway across the county” to get everything he needed for the install and would then be headed up to me. Finally got to my house at 1130am. A simple replacement tank should take 2-3 hours. Well at 1230 he magically disappears to grab something he mysteriously forgot to grab that morning during the 2 1/2 hour expedition which couldn’t of taken more than an hour.Well an hour later which no call about when he would get back I call the technician directly - which of course there isn’t an answer and no voicemail set up because that’s too convenient. At that point I contact the dispatch and after being put on and off hold 10x a lady finally answers and said they finally reached him and he was in Fredericksburg. The technician could of gotten there and back within the hour and dispatch agreed and he couldn’t even tell them when he would be back. Well a half hour later their dispatch calls me to say he still couldn’t give them an ETA back and he lied to them when he left the office this morning about not coming directly to my location. At this point their dispatch is concerned about why their technician is lying to me and would have to get upper management involved in the case.Finally the technician calls me back and says he’ll be back in 30 minutes but can’t even explain to me why he was so held up and didn’t actually have anything he needed when he arrived - even though we had a consult and he made a stop to get everything before coming which is why he was late.Well... the installation which should of started at 10am this morning has yet to be completed over 5 hours later and when you’re technician can’t even tell you how long it will take him to finish it’s a shame.Hopefully ARS lives up to their motto 100% satisfaction or 100% money back because.... this is a money back situation and their dispatch confirmed it when they couldn’t give a single reason why their technician is being the definition of unprofessional today.

**BUYER BEWARE**This company is inept and incapable. After numerous attempts to make contact with them about our HVAC not functioning well, which they installed six months prior, we have finally given up. They initially came to our home and told us that we needed to open our vents for the AC to work. Of course, our vents were already open. We then waited and received calls from technicians saying they would arrive within the hour and never did! This company has a guarantee that your issue should be evaluated within 24 hours and they have rarely held up that end of the bargain. A brand new HVAC system should NOT be malfunctioning, and even if it is, the company who INSTALLED it who we have a WARRANTY with should be more responsive.We should have known that we would have issues with this company from the start - they ruined our bathroom floor and our door during installation with their equipment because they didnt take two seconds to lie down a drop cloth. What type of professionals perform business this way?There are so many other options in the central Virginia area and I implore you to look elsewhere. It is not worth the headache!

Worst company I ever worked with. Very unprofessional.Hired them to replace a heat pump. They showed up in shabby street attire with no certificate technician present. Proceed to tear up the molding around my crow space, miss wired the unit so it and the thermostat blew a fuse, left sharp wood screws in my carpet and around my outside unit, did not replace insulation around a pipe or put a plug in the new overflow pan. When they left the A/C was not working and they left the old out side unit on my front yard What should have been a one or two day install turned out to be a five week five visit ordeal during which they kept offering compensation but apparently lost my name when the job was done. Don’t waist your time. Grifters!!!!!

June 2018 replaced the downstairs unit and couldnt have been happier with installation and personnel. Professional installation team, explained the plan and how long it would take, then followed through.THENOctober 2019 replace the upstairs unit and it couldnt have went any worse.1. Installation team was 1 guy and a helper.2. Was in a hurry and didnt explain anything, bordering on rude.3. They cut the refrigerate line for the downstairs unit while taking out the upstairs unit.4. Was told a new refrigerate line would be installed, but they reused the original.5. Asked for a manager all day, was told the manager was on the way. Didnt show up until end of day.6. Manager (Eric Walker) said they would return within a week to patch a hole in the foundation and cleanup the installation. After a week I started calling. Number on business card was not in service, called the office number and was always routed to VM. I left a message everyday and never received a call back.Have used them for years, but after the warranty period, Ill be using a different company. I would suggest avoiding them.(Updated)Was given 2 years service contract on both units. Still have to call for scheduling tune ups.

After 3 visits and 12 days with no AC, I got a second opinion. It took a smaller local company 1 visit to diagnose the issue that it took ARS 3 visits, 2 techs, 3 guesses and $450 (with no resolution). Of the 3 visits, they were on time once. I missed >12 hours of work b/c of their 4 hour appointment time windows. The technicians explanations as the process drug on made no sense. The quote for 410a was TRIPLE what my second quote was. Getting the second opinion will make my part come in a day later, but will save me 1000s.

The servicemen appear knowledgeable whenever at my home. But, every time I have my twice a year maintenance service, I am always “offered” additional services or “products” to purchase. It appears kind of “snake oil salesmen like!”Yesterday, my regular maintenance happened. My spouse was told a “part” on our Carrier compressor needed replacement. My spouse was charged a substantial cost for this replacement part. Upon my return home, I pulled out the installation agreement from 3.5 years earlier and noticed that the replaced “parts” are under a 10 year warranty through Carrier. ARS , then Weather Crafters, did the sale and installation!I called ARS office and was told these parts are not “covered” under warranty but, the Service Manager, would call me within hour to discuss. No return call.I did contact Carrier and because I registered my Carrier “parts”, the parts replaced by ARS WERE under warranty for 10 years. And ARS should not have charged me for these parts! This is what I told office staff; to no avail.I am not finished yet......Mrs Chalmers

ARS Rescue Rooter called me on Saturday, June 6th to scheduled a $59 tune-up. They said that Monday, June 8th was available and asked if 8:00 am was okay. I said I would prefer 9:00 am, and they said they would schedule it for 9:00 am and that the technician would also call when he was on his way.Monday morning came, and by 9:20 am I still hadnt received a call. So, I called them back to see if the technician was running into technical difficulties. They said that they had actually booked me with a 3rd party service with a general time frame of 8-12, and that they were also cancelling all appointments today due to high demand. (I guess they just hadnt gotten around to calling me to let me know.)I dont know about the quality of the technicians, but from this experience, it looks like this company is using bait and switch tactics for setting appointments and cares more about making money through emergency services than keeping their commitments with the smaller appointments.

I am very disappointed in ARS. I purchased a new Carrier heat pump in April from The Home Depot and ARS was the installer. The unit has not cooled my home properly since it was installed and the company has still not replaced it. It works fine while the weather is cool, but as soon as the temperature climbs, the temperature in my home climbs with it. Since the unit is unable to maintain my home at 70°, the condensing unit runs nonstop. This causes my electric bill to soar. Based on my experience, I would not recommend ARS. If they ever decide to fix my A/C, I will provide an update to my review.

He took the time to explain what work he was doing and why. He had our unit up and running in a very short time. 3 years ago I selected ARS to replace my 17 year old upstairs HVAC Heat-pump system. Great system and installation team. I have a maintenance contract to check my two systems during season changeover. ARS personnel are always professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. Logan is one of the nicest people Ive met in quite a while. He was pleasant to be around, extremely knowledgeable.He allowed me to watch him and explained to me what he was doing as he did it. Impossible to have emergency service done. Called for two days in a row to be told numerous times that Id be called back by a technician or manager, to mysteriously never have it happen. Im stuck using them because of my warranty. Id rather poke out my eyes with searing hot rods than deal with them.

Wendell B. performed the yearly inspection of my furnace and A/C unit. He really took his time and gave me some great information on my unit - like who the manufacturer was and how long I could expect it to last. He also recommended a drain line safety switch for the condensation line in my attic which no one else had ever suggested. Its a great idea and I am going to get it installed Wendell was friendly and very professional. I would recommend him to anyone!

Wendell showed up on time, with a friendly and pleasant attitude and went right to work after making sure that I understood what he would be doing. Chris A diagnosed an issue with one of my units a few weeks ago. He explained the issue and how it would be addressed. Answered all my questions. Very helpful.He was on site today to service the unit. Explained what needed to be done and replaced the part, verified all was working. Courteous, professional and easy to follow. The tech I got didnt know what he was doing. So much so the city inspector had to cut off my gas to the house because it was dangerous. After multiple complaints these people send THE EXACT SAME TECH out. I am afraid to go back in my house now waiting for the inspector to come and this company could care less. A contractor authorized by Home Depot. I am done with with both of them for lack of urgent response. Did I mention, I am recovering from chemo while the tech decided to potentially expose me and my son who had a kidney transplant to carbon monoxide. I guess cancer could not kill me so the ARS tech tried. Other than management and the tech, the office staff was great. Friendly folks working for uncaring people.

Wish I could give five stars but our installation guys didnt do a good job installing our ac unit. We had to have a guy come out 5 times within a month because our unit kept leaking. Lets just hope we dont have any water damage. Beware if you take out a loan with greensky. They charge so much interest, your paying your monthly bill and your balance never changes. Other than that our ac works just fine and our electricity bill went down too.

My service technician, Wendell, was extremely courteous, professional, and friendly. He explained clearly why my system had shut down, and he told me how to prevent its happening again. It was reassuring to know that my system had not failed in any way but was responding according to its safety features.Wendell was able to answer my questions in straightforward laymans terms. He also asked me questions to be certain that I had understood. In other words, he was a good teacher as well as a good technician.

They never call back. We have had an issue with our ac leaking in our attic and no one could figure out why. I was told they would call us back to let us know... nothing. Then I call after our 1 year of free services and they magically figured out why it was leaking and try to charge us $100. Supposed to be 100% customer satisfaction or our money back... I should threaten it to get my $12000 back. I wonder how fast they would actually take care of us.

Called this morning at 8:30, was told someone would be out (toilet backing up into tub) said someone could come between 12:00-4:00, no show, called 3 times to see if someone was coming, took my name said someone would call back it is now 6:21, called to cancel svc, I would truly not recommend

It was about time to replace our 30 year HVAC system. I found a contractor that provided a great price, but never showed. I walked into Home Depot and through them got hooked up with ARS. They came out on time, handled the permits and did a great job. The crew even hung around long enough to redo the disconnect because they felt it wasn’t up to their standards. Olman, Coleman and Justin - thank you for your hard work during a hot summer day to provide a nice new system and thermostat for my family.

Mr. Battle had done a tune up on our HVAC system over a year ago. I forgot what his name was after that to call for service! I was very happy to see him at the door today!!! He is always kind, honest and thorough. He doesnt just install a product and rush off. He makes sure YOU understand what you are getting, why and how to work it! Chris is great. Knows his stuff and has great customer service skills. he gets 5 stars from me. the only reason I didnt give 5 overall is due to the leaks I keep having on my geothermal systems. definitely worth the money for the extended parts and labor warranty but almost every year there is a new leak so dont roll the dice.

The entire process, from getting an estimate to completion of the water heater installation, was a pleasant experience. The technician, Clayton Christie, arrived this morning exactly on time, immediately went to work, completed the installation and had everything cleaned up in 1-1/2 hrs. This company just replaced my leaking hot water heater. I called Friday afternoon, they sent someone out Monday to consult, and it was replaced Tuesday. The technician, Logan, was extremely professional and courteous. He and his assistant were very thorough and made sure I knew how to work the equipment before they left. They cleaned up after themselves, including cleaning up all of the leaked water once they took the old heater out. A little side perk: my 2 and 5 year old kept asking them questions and talking to them, and they were great with interacting with my little ones and explaining to them what they were doing. I was very impressed with the overall experience!
