I would give 0 stars if I could! These workers are a complete joke! They are lazy and act like doing their job is the hardest thing in the world! They lie - even the Supervisors!/ Very sad & pathetic! Va Beachs workers make you guys look terrible! Do not work in public service if you cant handle it! All hundreds of us have had the same issues! Very helpful, kind, respectful, and not to mention super duper friendly. The security guard gave up his break to help me get my truck started so I could get home and I am very grateful for his help because I would have been stuck there with no money and no way to get help from a friend so thank you for the help man

While they have many demands placed on them, and due to the nature of their job, they are probably dehumanized at times.I have to say that I’ve had a FEW pleasant experiences.I have had MANY unpleasant experiences.Typically, each person you encounter is extremely rude (sigh, eye rolls, disapproving tones), and they do NOT speak professionally.Many of the staff lie, for whatever reason, and they don’t have consequences in place, quite the contrary they staff are often backed by supervisors, who are biased.Don’t bother trying to file a complaint as the individuals who hold those hearings, will hear your complaint and completely ignore it, further backing the actions of the poorly behaved staff.The third level of complaint involves circuit court, and that means that Chesapeake City employees are in charge of deciding the case... and since the state level doesn’t do anything correctly, why would the city.Feeling hopeless for myself, and everyone having difficulty right now.

The social workers were helpful and we got the assistance needed. The only issue was that the guards expect you to park if waiting for someone. Youre not allowed to wait on the side even though there is no No Parking sign posted. Service was otherwise good.

I must say, most state, city and even federal agencies get a bad review because of the long long wait times, but this agency was not bad. We arrived, took a number and b4 we took 2 steps they called our #, we asked for what we needed and within 10 minutes we were in and out of facility and accomplished ok our goal. Not bad. Good job Chesapeake Human Services.

I was receiving tanaf and food stamps. That all came to a end when I had fraud on my case! Then getting terrigated by the case manager about my situation. So I called for. Why do you get to receive Benefits then getting them taken away? Now I have to reapply for something I did not do. I have zero money for food or nothing. The government is suppose to help us young single moms but it seems like it’s backwards and just getting hopes up. I’m very disappointed in social services for what they have done and singling out my situation. My daughter and I were in a abusive and hostile situation and they want to question me about it and make it seems like I’m lying ? You don’t do that, you don’t stoop that low. I look out for the best interest for my daughter and I. Then I get treated like a liar?

Extremely rude people ...the caseworkers never call you back ....I have been waiting for my sons insurance to be approved since January and its still pending after the caseworker finally told me it was going to be approved ... Only to get a call from my pediatricians office saying that it still hasnt been approved ... my son still hasnt had his fourth or six months shots .. I dont know how these people majored in college for this profession when they all turn out to be a bunch of rude scumbags .. You are supposed to care and understand when needy families need help.. that is what they signed up for ..yet they dont give the courtesy not even to be nice to people ...this place needs NEW PROFESSIONAL AND UNDERSTANDING STAFF!!!

I find the service to have a lot to be desired! to say the least!! Front desk is fine but they are not the ones that are supposed to help people on medicare as my elderly Dad is. I have called and called and called to no avail as his aide has as well for weeks!! The person NEVER returns calls and I keep calling then 2 times she has called back but still no results as she seems to keep putting us off. He was late retuning his renewal for medicade but still only by a week and we faxed it back to the services and was told they never received it!! REALLY,after being faxed 3 times! I highly doubt it! At any rate went there and handed his case worker the renewal papers ,so here we are a week later and NOTHING!! In the mean time he is not covered and is in need of his supplies and hoping to still keep his aide as no payment from medicare is no pay for his aide! So with saying all this,I pray I never ever need their services as it is so horrible!!

Theyre rude as f##k and act as if youre bothering them just by asking legitimate questions to be sure you understand the policies. My caseworker (no I wont give her name) is a horrible woman who obviously doesnt take her job or your needs seriously. But even with that said I have had some good experiences with this cranky crew so for that Ill only leave 2 stars instead of just one so I could post this.

Three different people lied to me repeatedly and one of them included the supposed supervisor. I see why the case worker she supervises didnt do her job. Calling the director on all three of them MONDAY MORNING.

I say NO STARS, but it wont let me post w/o 1. Ive never made a complaint before but this time I have to. Front desk staff is ALWAYS rude but I maintain my respect & professionalism making sure I always say good morning, etc. I had paperwork that I turned in lost so many times its ridiculous. Even when im on the phone w/ a worker & they ask me to email a document, they say they received it, a few weeks later I received a letter saying they never did. One time a worker called me 4 months after I turned in something & told me she is new & found my application along w/ a bunch of others just sitting on my desk & it needed my signature, even though I know I signed it before because my copy had the signature. Recently a new lady was @ the window when I turned in documents & asked if I can get a copy of the application & have it stamped Received like they usually do & she gave me nothing but ATTITUDE, ROLLED HER EYES AT ME, STARTED SLAPPING MY PAPERS DOWN ON THE COUNTER WHILE SHE STAMPED & STAPLED & EVEN THREW IT IN THE INBOX ACROSS THE ROOM. Before I walked out I told her Im being respectful, so I really dont know what the issue is so you have a good day!!!

I work with Chesapeake human Services or social services. They assist me with food stamps ie the SNAP program. I have found service at the office to be very good with relatively short periods to see people.

Never returns calls.. I have been trying for over a month now to get my case worker to return my calls. I have gone a month without insurance due to an error on their part. A month without my medication and doctor appointments. I have left messages with over four different cases workers. I have one return my call only to tell me she had to give my information to another one to have them call me the next day and still no call. What is it going to take for them to return calls. Who needs to get involved in order for them to handles this matter.

If i could give zero stars i Would ! I am so tired of this office denying people and not giving them an accurate reason for denial. I applied for SNAP A MONTH AGO ! I never received a denial letter i had to call case worker GASTINELL who is one of the RUDEST human beings ive ever encountered! This place needs to be shut down or all the staff needs to be fired and replaced with staff who actually have hearts!

My son has had Medicaid since he was born. He has mental health issues and recently was dropped from the insurance with no notice, no letter in the mail, no reason what so ever. I cannot refill his medication or take him to his appointments with no insurance. I have been calling my case worker and her supervisor for a week now with no return calls. I called cover va and they couldnt help me. I called the main number and they couldnt help me. Social services is supposed to help people. Not make things worse. This is the most unprofessional inefficient work place I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

Worst people ever to deal with! Had to fight to get food stamps for my daughter and myself. Took over 5 months I was told to use my daughter Wic to live off of! Than they cancelled my daughters heath insurance when she was only 3 weeks old. I had to fight to get that back. I went in to reapply for health insurance and NEVER heard back from them. I called my case worker 3 times and left her messages and not one call was returned! I applied in person and handed in the application along with TANIF. And now both of them have vanished. And now because I work I can not get any help. This place is a joke. You have single mothers who can not afford anything and you refuse to help, yet and I know for a fact they approve others who do not need any help and give them all the money in the world for nothing!

I seem to always go at a down time, you have to pull a number ticket and wait to be called, which seems like forever when you the only one in there. Takes about 15 to 20 minutes to be acknowledge for task that only may take about three to five

I was away when a fire damaged the building I live in. I just came home over the weekend (Saturday). All the food in my refrigerator was gone because it had to be removed due to the power being turned off. I live at 1937 Robert Hall Blvd. I have no smoke, water or fire damage; but, I have very little food that I bought myself. They even took my bottled water out my refrigerator. When I called DHS, the receptionist told me that they offered help for ten days and I missed out. I explained that I was away and had just come home. She said they couldnt help me. The state takes money from our paychecks to accommodate those on TANF and SNAP; so, why would they shun me when I am in need of temporary help? When I got wind of the fire, I came home to find that we residents who had no damage to our units were not allowed to enter our apartments for over a week. I was in Suffolk from June 2o until August 5 taking care of my 88 year old mother while my sister who lives with her was away for a month.

It wont let me provide zero stars so I had to choose one star. This place is beyond horrible! On 2 different occasions I was supposed to have a phone interview and no one ever called! I called later and left many messages, no one called me back and Ive tried to call this morning for over 30 minutes and no answer on the phone! This is a joke! Some ppl dont eat without their EBT and these ppl have NO SENSE OF URGENCY. They need an entirely new staff. They need to clean house with these lazy, unprofessional, rude workers!

Theyre condescending, extremely unprofessional, and as a result completely useless. I would rather get my foot ran over by a truck than have to deal with any of these people. The receptionists and front desk people are absolutely rude and unprofessional. I applied for medicaid for me and my son. My son got accepted almost 4 months later. I did mine over the phone and it was for absolutely no reason because after waiting another 4 months and numerous calls with no help, I finally get up with someone just for them to tell me it wasnt on file and I needed to reapply. For what? To wait another 4 months? The only good thing about this place is A VERY few of the caseworkers are genuine, professional and friendly. Other then that, I pray for the low income struggling people of chesapeake because this place is useless.

My daughters name and date of birth has been put in incorrectly since day one therefore causing her claims to be denied. Ive taken the birth certificate and was made empty promises of correcting the issue. 6 months later and there still isnt a resolve. This is horrible customer service and this simple request should be rectified.

The worst experience Ive ever had very impersonal wont return phone calls or respond to voicemail. Applied for benefits in August have yet to recieve anything just a letter stating what I would recieve only for the date to come that I was to recieve and nothing arrived. Plus the worker lied and dated my application for October when I applied in August..wish I didnt have to give them one star just did so to express my dislike for their incompetence and lack of professionalism not all recipients are uneducated dumb and just accept unfair treatment. I fully intend to take this a step futher.

I HAD A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE HERE. So with that being said I decided to read the reviews to see if it was just me. So glad to see I’m not alone, but disappointed the supervisor here has not taken all of these peoples bad experiences with this place into consideration and tried to make it better. I just want to add I don’t even know why I had a case worker here when I live all the way on the oceanfront but I’m guessing just REALLY BAD LUCK! I would definitely say the Virginia Beach office is cleaner (Chesapeake office is DISGUSTING and DIRTY and smells like MOLD on the inside). My new case worker in the Virginia Beach office seems a lot more helpful as well. The thing that the people who work here need to understand is that for one DO YOUR JOB if you don’t like it work somewhere else instead of being rude and hateful to the people coming to you for help. The lady who was my case worker, S***** H****-S*****, was rude to me on the phone from the very first call, claimed she sent me info in the mail (amazingly never got to me), when I couldn’t reach her I left her voicemail after voicemail after voicemail, and worst of all she would not even see me in her office, face to face she just called me on the phone in the waiting room and was extremely disrespectful and condescending. With that being said I then had to argue with this woman in front of everyone, and I am the most easy going person ever so it’s hard to get me to raise my voice and she succeeded in getting me to that point by not listening, making false claims, and being obnoxious. I doubt they truly help people here and now after reading all these other people’s reviews I 100% believe most of the people in this office are incompetent at their jobs.
