This gorgeous hotel has some of the best front desk and bar staff. We booked a wedding block at different properties in the city and most of the guests stayed at the Draftsman and spoke very highly about the staff.I also personally along with some of the other guests that stayed at the other hotels had the pleasure meeting with David, Nick, Jon (bar staff) and Alexander at the front desk. They were all extremely friendly and provided amazing customer service. Also, Johanna the Director of Sales was so amazing and extremely professional and helpful while booking some of the guests at the Draftsman. She was extremely easy to work with and was helpful at all times.

Our stay here was amazing. We stayed in March and it was such a wonderful experience. The service was top notch and the rooms were lovely. Id especially like to take a moment to thank Cynthia at the front desk for always going above and beyond. From suggestions on where to eat, to customer service, she exceeded all expectations. The valet was fabulous and always friendly and on top of things. If youre thinking about staying here, look no further... this is it !! Thank you for a lovely stay and being apart of a beautiful memory.

This is a DECENT place to stay. The best thing I can say about it is that it was quiet. However, my room (king) was SMALL. I tried to use an upgrade certificate but was told none were available due to several weddings. This reservation cost a lot of points and definitely was not worth it (the pictures are deceiving). I so wish Id stayed at another Marriott brand/property.

Went for brunch two weeks ago and ordered crusted french toast with berry sauce. When it arrived it was literally white bread with a quick custard soak cooked on a flat top. No crust and no sauce. When asked the server said they were out. Service was also very slow, even though the restaurant was less than half full.Astonishingly overpriced for french toast you could get at a dining hall breakfast buffet. Really disappointing, to the point that when google prompted me to write a review I still remember how I felt two weeks later.

The hotel is very nice , I like the restaurant and the rooms were very clean and modern . But the staff is unpredictable, some are very nice and helpful and some are not friendly. I have visited multiple times and its the same . I would give 0 stars if I could , every time I stay there they over charge me. And every time they make an excuse . They are very dishonest , pay attention to your bill carefully.

This was my favorite hotel in Charlottesville. I work remotely for UVA and, in normal times, come down for extended stays 2-3 times a year. I was there for five days last week. While the stay and service was fine, the billing has been a mess. I need to submit expense reports, and I am spending taxpayer dollars, so it MUST be accurate. The front desk did not charge me for parking, which makes me wonder what is going on and if a charge will show up out of the blue later. I called and the answer I got was, We dont know. The restaurant also charged my UVA credit card for something that has no basis in reality. Another call to them got basically the same answer. Back to the Graduate, I guess.

A second stay at this nice, compact hotel near the university. First one during the pandemic. Car valet, front desk and other staff were all friendly and helpful. When we stayed the restaurant wasn’t open (it was undergoing a makeover and opening in a week). They are very dog friendly which was great for us, since we have two small dogs. Will definitely stay again.

One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed at in years. Using COVID as an excuse for short staffing, they’ve essentially become a self-service flophouse, offering little housekeeping, a barebones front desk, and a restaurant that they sell off to the highest bidding wedding party while leaving guests in the lurch. The carpets are stained, the elevators slow and not even remotely sufficient for the number of guests who use them. The valet parking is a frenzied zoo of cars blocking the tiny driveway, and more than once I heard guests screaming at hapless parking attendants about how they were going to miss an event because their cars were trapped in the black hole garage. With the creaking, too-slow elevators; a HVAC system that wheezes creepy, loud sounds into your room at odd hours of the night; a shower drain that reeks of body odor; and a so-called “suite” with a a second “room” smaller than my Manhattan bathroom - you wonder whether this hotel is actually an installation art piece by Marriott corporation to explore nihilistic despair. This is a terrible hotel and if you choose to stay here, don’t say you weren’t warned. PS, my family is platinum elite and a lifetime gold, so we know from a real hotel.

Clean, comfortable, and great location - close to UVA and a quick drive to good restaurants/bars. The staff here are the best feature - extremely friendly, professional, and helpful. Would love it if they added a pool and a lounge for rewards members. For those nervous to return to hotel staying post-COVID, all hotel staff and most guests were wearing masks. Would stay here again in a heat beat. Highly recommend.

Our experience was great! The hotel was beautiful and very clean. The rooms were pretty big as were the showers. The staff was also super friend. Theres a parking lot behind the hotel which they explain when you check in. Its $18 for 24hrs which seems reasonable. $18 is only an hour in NY lol. There a gym on the penthouse level which is open and tons of restaurants within walking distance. This would be my top choice if we go back to Charlottesville.

Parking was a disaster. Wish they would tell you in an email or prior to arrival where to park. Then, charging full valet price and not offering valet (which I totally understand not doing valet because of covid) but still charging the same price is crazy. They also sent someone to our room at night who didnt knock or anything and just walked in because they didnt know if we checked in, but we clearly got keys and checked in at the front desk. Rooms were nice but too much disorganization.

Where do I begin... I was planning a 40th birthday getaway for my husband to one of our favorite cities and The Draftsman ticked all the boxes as for the experience I wanted us to have. I reached out to the hotel directly in hopes of getting a birthday card from the staff in our room welcoming my husband and acknowledging his birthday and confirming that a crib would be available for us. Avery replied to me right away and ensured that he would have a card in the room for my husband and that we would have a crib in our room for our 2 month old daughter when we arrived. Fortunately we checked in with Avery and he was as much a pleasure to meet and talk to as he was via email! Leo helped us take our bags to our suite and was very nice. We had the kindest valet guys assist us during our stay - thanks so much Tucker and Lukas. Our suite was in one word: phenomenal! The view was magnificent, especially the sunrise and sunset. The space was perfect, very spacious and well appointed. All in all - we had a wonderful weekend and cannot wait to visit again! An added bonus: The Draftsman is situated very close to many delicious eateries in Charlottesville and that’s important to foodies like us!

We visited UVA and had a fantastic weekend. The Draftsman was upscale, great decor, welcoming and accommodating staff. Rooms were very functional, comfortable and quiet. We were super close to campus and downtown Charlottesville was also walkable (a healthy walk, but doable). If we return to Charlottesville, the Draftsman would be our first choice without hesitation.

Great location, very walkable. We walked to Peloton station for delicious apps and great beers by a firepit. This hotel is beautifully decorated and rooms have a cigar bar elegance vibe. Rooms and hotel are very clean and everyone wore masks consistently.Note that, although the marriot app states that the restuarant is open, it is not- and there are no food or drinks for sale within the hotel other than the honor bar within the room. The honor bar is pretty cool. Although the prices were elevated, they werent ridiculous, and we were happy to pay for the convenience of enjoying items in the room. Water, soft drinks and snacks are $3, airplane size liquours are $8, and we liked the $25 Merf wine.Of note, as well - there is cool uplighting behind the headboards. However, it is fairly bright and on the same switch as the outlets close to the bed. If you have anything you need plugged in next to you while you sleep (like a breathing machine), you will have to sleep with these lights on. Bring a sleep mask or try the super cool look of using one of your face masks to block the light while you sleep. Also note that the breakfast is a nice thought but not substantial- prepackaged muffins and bagels and one coffee choice with packaged cream/sugar. We ordered coffee from uber eats. For the price, this is a great hotel in an awesome location, but the lack of onsite food/beverage and the weird lighting situation make it unlikely that we would choose this hotel again. If the lighting situation isnt an issue for you, I would say this hotel is a great choice.

I worked at the front desk of this hotel for a number of months. I did not come across any dark or disgusting secrets (outside of HR concerns), so no worries there. It is not cheap, not at all, but it also is not generally hundreds a night. It is well situated as the bird flies, and mostly for walking, but is not ideal for frequent use of the car. Food options are exceedingly limited, but not absent. Overall, very mediocre. However, I can say that this is the sort of place that will do anything for you if you are of sufficiently high rank in the Marriot Bonvoy system, and virtually nothing if you are not. You may still get lucky with a helpful staff member, but per policy no Bonvoy means no favors.I am also pretty sure any recycling bins are just for show. I saw no method or effort made to conserve or recycle anything. Indeed, especially if we focus on paper and plastic, this is likely the most wasteful employer I have ever had.

Had to call front desk multiple times for coffee station to be replenished from previous guests. TV Remote was glitching the entire time. The $20 bottle of wine from the honor bar was spoiled. Room service food, which was overpriced including a room service fee and 25% auto gratuity, was mediocre at best. Then we were charged over $70 more which was not correct. Neither the restaurant or hotel noticed before we were billed, and I had to call for refund which we did receive promptly. The hotel is beautiful and the amenities were comfy, however the service needs a good bit of help. The valet kid needs to check himself before making assumptions that we were not guests of the hotel. If the service and the food quality were elevated to match the atmosphere and the cost, I would stay again. Otherwise, no way.

We have been visiting and staying in Charlottesville for years and thought we would give the Draftsman a try. The easy valet service, the lobby and the accommodations were very appealing. It was after I had turned over the pillow that I had been resting my head on while watching tv and saw dried old blood stains that things started to sour, it was just gross. The next morning I went down early to the lobby and waited for coffee to be set up before the restaurant opened. I had asked the receptionist when we checked in how early I could get some coffee and he told me 6:30. Well its not 6:30, its really out at 7:00. I poured the coffee and it had some kind of oily gross grainy stuff floating in that was not coffee grinds. I went to the front desk and showed it to the receptionist and she looked at it and said oh thats fine, its just coffee grinds, its safe to drink. She didnt take it from me or offer to get a new one or apologize or anything...again, gross. I went into the restaurant at this point and ordered some fresh coffee. It was good and I was happy and I hung out there for a out 30 minutes while waiting for my daughter to wake up. The waiter was very nice and told me that he wouldnt charge me for my coffee because of the lobby coffee situation. I left him a generous tip and went back to my room. Two hours later we came back and my old coffee and the tip, and my napkin and creamer were still sitting at the table I had been sitting at, no one cared to clean it up. Its not like the place was busy as I was the only customer. We ordered our coffee and had to ask for NEW cream as I wasnt going to use the old cream that was till sitting on the table.` The omelette I had was delicious! we definitely enjoyed the breakfast. The waiter was attentive and friendly and we liked him but he was clearly not that well trained. We went to check out and I asked the receptionist to cancel our upcoming March reservation because we didnt enjoy our stay.I showed her a photo of the pillow and she knew about the disappointing coffee. She was very apologetic and said that she wont cancel the March stay and that she is sure that the manager will make it up to us when we return and said we should give it another try. She said the manager will call you today and speak to you and she confirmed my contact number. No one ever called. SO many other hotel options in Charlottesville. Skip this one

I have left numerous voice mails and sent a couple of emails to the manager Mr. Dennison and to the General manager Mr. Burton without response. (in addition to all of this the shower pressure in room 517 was low end)I run a small law office and have no idea how to run a hotel. What a great new addition to Charlottesvilles Main Street. Great original and hip set up. Very helpful valet and front desk staff. Friendly bartenders and servers at the restaurant, with some great and fresh menu options. The best part was how the room was laid out and decorated. Very cool metal accessories and accents compliment some cool and contemporary furnishings with clean lines. The bathroom was very clean and functional, with old school floor tiles. The shower was better than the tub typically found in a hotel bathroom. It had two shower heads and great tilework. Plenty of mirrors and a drafting table placed outside of the bathroom make for good options for fixing hair and makeup when sharing a room. The coolest feature was a barn door for the bathroom and closet! The only drawback was the room was still so new that it has some odors from the building materials. It was not so detectable after a few minutes but seemed to hit each time we came back into the room. Easy to walk to plenty of restaurants and about a mile from the Downtown Mall, with great shops and more restaurants.

The Draftsman is a new property. It is modern and updated. Sleek decor, large functional bathroom, walk in shower. The staff was courteous and helpful. Overall a wonderful experience. We only experienced breakfast in the hotel. In that it was a bit surprising that the avocado toast was on a standard whole wheat loaf of bread, not something more artesian. Given the restaurants in Charlottesville that was a bit surprising. The rooftop workout room was bright and clean. Enjoyable place for a morning workout. Three stair steppers, a couple of treadmills plus free weights and a weight machine, only one bike. It was not the most obvious route to get to it as one of the elevators only goes to the 10th floor and you have to take the emergency stairs to get to the workout room if you are on that elevator. Note, they dont have a pool. The free trolley to the mall is across the street but it is only a 15 minute walk. Also about a 10 minute walk to the UVA lawn. Ideal location.

The only issue we had this time was that the fitness center was above our room this time, and someone was dropping free weights on the floor at 5am -- an hour earlier than we planned to get up. Having stayed here previously, I was excited to share the experience with my wife as we visited our daughter at UVA. We had a wonderful experience and enjoyed our five night stay. The room was very well set up and the bed was extremely comfortable.

The front desk clerk was friendly and helpful. The property is modern and tasteful. The problem is that housekeeping remade the bed with the dirty sheets from the previous guests. We pull back the sheets to find long black hairs, short hairs and a HUGE red wine stain. Not acceptable. Immediately checked out.

This place is Amazing. The location is perfect little walk to get to the down town mall. The staff is Super Awesome!!!! Only thing I was not a huge fan of was the valet parking, but again the staff was out of the park. Also the down stairs bar and restaurant was awesome also. I have vacationed in Charlottesville MANY times and I think this was my best stay ever. I would love to come back!!!

This hotel was only slightly more than where I usually stay, but they were booked. Boy am I glad. This hotel was wonderful. It was so clean. I was greeted by rocket the dog, who was very good at his job. Everyone was super nice. The hotel restaurant was off the hook good! The rooms are very nice. Loved the whole stay. I will only stay here from now on while in Charlottesville.

We have stayed it autograph hotels before and always liked them. This hotel was as good as the others. We had a problem with check-in, but one of the front desk staff (Edie) not only resolved the problem but made our stay truly welcoming and exceptional. Those lobby along with the rooms are nicely detailed, the hotel has a great location, and the rest of the staff were also friendly. Highly recommend

This hotel is so so awesome! The rooms are stellar with a nice big shower and comfy bed. The hotel restaurant/bar (Renewal) was amazing! Great food. Over 30 beers on tap plus full bar. And the staff knew everything about the food and drink they served. This is my new go to hotel in Charlottesville!

The staff and service of the Draftsman hotel could not have been friendlier or more specific to every need. Upon checkin, they happily accommodated our two (!) dogs and made the whole process quick and easy, (less than four minutes. Front desk staff were quick to greet and make sure all was well with our stay every time we entered and exited (which was a lot, given the dogs). Valet service was fantastic, polite, and so kind!Upon entering our room, I was delighted to find that my partner had requested roses in the room for Valentines Day weekend, as well as a card hand written with his requested message that mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday. The staff also provided a bottle of champagne and two glasses without being asked! The toiletries provided were C.O. Bigelow, a good brand. I prefer branded items as I am better able to tell the quality. They also included less usual items, such as a small vanity kit with q-tips, cotton pads, and a loofah. To visit, all one really needs to bring is a toothbrush. The closet was well stocked with robes and slippers, and there was an honesty style minibar with drinks and mixers at reasonable prices. The location could not have been better - just a block from The Corner with its shops and dining and two blocks from the Rotunda. We felt incredibly pampered during our night in Charlottesville and felt that the hotel more than earned its value.
