I started training at Mt Kim three years ago when I was going through a pretty difficult breakup. I needed something to help me focus my mind and train my body.Master Kang trained me in Gumdo and even after achieving my black belt, I am still taking his class. All of the instructors at Mt Kim are patient, kind, and genuinely interested in the wellbeing of their students. You couldn’t ask for a better dojang, regardless of which of their classes you’re interested in taking. Strong body, strong mind, strong spirit!

My daughter was enrolled from 4 1/2 years old until we moved last year at 8, and also did their summer camp program for 3 years. She absolutely loved it, and so did I! They would pick her up directly from school, do sports, homework, organized recreation, *and* free time with her until my work got out, and the summer hours were very flexible for my work schedule as well. The instructors seem to really like kids, and work well even with the really small kids. I thoroughly recommend Mt. Kim of Charlottesville: You get so much more value for your dollar --school pickup, self defense training, group running around time, homework support-- than you would taking the child to a sitter!

My son also started here when he was 5 in this great school and great instructors. He is now red belt, and assists with the adapted TKD program. TKD has not only taught him the physical component of martial arts, but also the mental part (positive character traits, goal setting and leadership). He has used these mental aspects inside and outside of the studio. He also plans on continuing through high school!

I signed up for Korean ( Japanese iaido) Haidong Gumdo (The Way of the Sword) and wished I had found this 2 years ago when I moved here. The workouts and instruction is exactly what I expected from a high end dojo. There is nothing but honor in this school and the master that runs it is excellent. The instructors want their students to succeed and every bit of patience is given. Haidong Gumdo is the earliest form to Japanese Iaido (katana sword) which was established after China invaded Korea forcing their sword masters in exile to Japan. Only then did the samurai clans become instituted. Haidong Gumdo is more fluid and not as rigid as one finds in idido. Highly impressed !!!

This has to be the best dojang in Charlottesville! I signed up initially because the classes fit with my work schedule. It was a little bit out of the way for me location wise but the classes were late enough to accommodate me. Boy was I in for a surprise! I ended up really loving going and have actually changed my work schedule to fit the classes! The teachers are beyond fantastic, the atmosphere is diverse, and the workout is intense! I really enjoy being a part of Mt. Kim Martial Arts in Charlottesville and have really benefited from the guidance of Master Kang, Master Papa, and Master Dowell. They are very patient, insightful, improve on your weaknesses, and congratulate you on your strengths. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend them to anyone!
