Sept 2020 a broken drive belt initiated contacting this place. They picked up, and I requested they look it over & do whatever else was needed, getting it ready for spring 2021. Little communication during whole process, but delivered it back. I continued the lawn service I had been using while they had mower. April 2021, mowed no more than a half dozen times, or less, and same belt broke that initiated the mower to go there n Sept. They said they stand behind their workmanship & no charge for pick up, delivery, or repair. Great! No communication for a week or 2, so checked on it; oh your annual maintenance is needed and the belt is old.Now they were obviously aware this is BS because of discussions to have tractor returned to them n the first place. I had paperwork showing the new belt put on it in Sept, and the annual maintenance they did n Sept. Manger said, oh, so you did, making jokes that were not funny. He now would have to see if he was getting defective parts from John Deere, and /or hold tech(s) accountable. A week ago, May 21, it was returned. I mowed yesterday & a belt fell off the pulleys having barely started mowing. I took a half day off work to get mowing done before rainy Memorial Day holiday so I am not a satisfied customer. I called and left a not so nice message to service dept. No return call. Va Tractor has had 3 tries to get it right! I will never patronize them again. As another said, may have to go over the mtn, but I am sure James River would have done it right, the first time, last Sept.So hello service manager, where is the phone call ? What r u going to do about this?

Sent both my zero turn and riding mower in for annual service. Let them know the riding mower was cutting at an angle. Spent $600 for basically oil changes. Called and left a message asking for a call back and for them to pick up tractor and fix the angle. Month later still no response. Previously I stopped going to the Orange Virginia Tractor also because of service. The whole reason I bought a John Deere was so I wouldnt have to worry about service, now I do not trust either.Update 09/17:Owner said I would get a call from Ed yesterday. No call yesterday or today. Had to cut grass again and the lines are really bad if the ground isnt level. I just want it fixed after paying so much

The staff did not notify us that the tractor battery we had ordered last week was on back order indefinitely. Two of the service reps at the counter were moderately helpful, though they did not make eye contact. One service rep was downright irritable and rude as he spoke to me while chomping on his cookie and scrolling his cell phone. This is not the kind of customer service that this long-standing Charlottesville business wants to exemplify.

John Deere Lawn tractor repair: sometimes you experience service and quality work that reminds you what great looks like. Virginia Tractor delivered that exceptional service on my recent John Deere lawn tractor repair. Not only did they diagnose and fix the problem, they were able to do it for $100, rather than $500, because they have mechanics and welders who are craftsmen. I had considered going to another shop, as the tractor is getting older, but this convinced me to stay with them for as long as my great John Deere works. Oh, and their work on Stiehl chainsaws is excellent, as well.

I am glad to have them as a resource in our area for all our farm needs and will continue to buy from them and have them service our equipment in the future.

Never again! I called ahead to see how much it would be to get my blades sharpened on my mower. The services guy over the phone told me it would be $10 a blade. When I dropped the mower off, I confirmed the price. He said, yes sir $10 a blade. Only to find out when I picked it up, it was actually $10 a blade plus $75 in labor. I could have got new blades for that price. O well, like I said, never again. Next time I’ll just take the drive to Peidmont Power where it actually is $10 a blade.

I would have given them 1 star, but at least the mower ran when I finally got it back. I took my low end John Deere mower in over a month ago due to it not starting. I called the service department and was told if I bring it in that day they could get right on it as they werent that busy. My mower was still under warranty and was told that if the problem was due to me using dirty fuel that it wouldnt be covered under the warranty and I would have to pay for it. I knew that was the case, but agreed to pay the $45. charge for them to check it to see if it was caused by something I had done. Three days later, no word on what was found wrong with my mower. I gave them a call and was told that it was caused by a bad fuel solenoid and the part was on order. After not hearing anything for a couple of weeks I called back again was told that the part wasnt due to ship until the 28th of August. I cannot believe that a company as large as John Deere doesnt keep these parts in stock. Today, the 4th of September, I still had not heard anything from the service department as to the part arriving so I gave them another call. I was told that they just got the mower fixed today and I could come and pick it up and there would be no charge since it was covered by the warranty. I picked up the mower this afternoon and asked if I could get some kind of paperwork showing the work that was done and why it had taken so long to get the part. I was told they must have a lot of problems with this part as they cant keep them in stock. They had left a couple of tags hanging on the steering wheel of the mower and one of them indicated that the mower had been repaired on the 29th of August, not today as I was told when I called. I am a 65 years old disabled Vet and had both my hips replaced just last year. I sold my 12 year old Craftsman mower and my 4-wheeler to buy this mower. I had always heard how great John Deere mowers were so I thought it should last for the rest of my grass cutting days. The warranty work may have been free, but it cost me over $120.00 to have someone cut my grass due to the excessive time this mower was in shop. If I ever need to have any additional repairs done I will definitely take the mower somewhere else. Just about the worst service I have experienced at any dealership Ive ever dealt with and I would recommend that you go somewhere else for any lawnmower repairs. This will be the last John Deere product I will ever purchase.

Padding the bill. I had a technician come to my house to service a Z727A mower. I stood by him and watched him perform the entire maintenance. I received the invoice in the mail a week later and they are trying to charge me for some new parts - specifically 2 blades - which were not replaced. Might be some other parts on the list as well. I dont think it is the technicians fault who seemed fair (he showed me the blades before he sharpened them - more like the supervisors/corporate/accounting level. Be very careful if you do business with them. I called them and they agreed that I was mis-billed and told me that I wasnt responsible for the cost of the 2 blades. Last time I do business with them.

I found one of the customer staff rude, condescending, and untruthful. The whole interaction with the NEW Va. Tractor was extremely offensive. This is alocal business I cannot support. It is a shame because Va Tractor carriessuch high quality equipment but their service, their follow through, and truthfulness is questioned. A poorly run organization...what owner would allow this to continue, to have his customers treated like this! Maybe Va. Tractor needs to change hands one more time!

Ive purchased several chainsaws and parts from the Charlottesville location over the years. I took an older (1967) JD 2020 that needed a new clutch and had a badly leaking radiator. I was quoted $2800 and told that the radiator had a massive hole in it and would need to be replaced ($600 for the radiator). The rest of the quote was for a $200 clutch and labor. I decided that was too much money to spend on a tractor only worth $4-5000, so I took it home. I ended up changing the clutch myself in my driveway with minimal tools in about 8 hours. I also started doing a little more inspecting on the radiator and discovered the unit itself was fine, but it needed a $5 hose. I understand that dealership shops are expensive, and that they probably dont prefer to work on 35 year old machines, but they out and out lied about the radiator. I know mistakes happen and such, but there is never an excuse to flat out lie to a customer. Ill never spend another dime here or any other VA Tractor location. Ill drive to Fishersville or Harrisonburg from here on out.
