Heartwood came over for some pruning this morning. They were on time, professional, and cleaned up as they worked. They have a guy with a broom and dust bin (photo attached), leaf blowers, and they raked all the twigs before they left. Im very impressed.

Juan came out this morning to grind a stump in our backyard and did an incredible job. He was on time (a few minutes early, actually), navigated a fairly tricky backyard entrance, and even planted the tree that wed planned to do ourselves. He said he wanted to ensure he dug the hole deep enough, then figured... why not plant the tree? Just a really great guy all around and it was a pleasure to work with him!

To start with, I was impressed with the knowledge of the salesman, an arborist, who came to look over my project. I had a completed proposal in less than an hour.The staff of 5 (total) tree experts who came to my home were always punctual. They impressed me with the professionalism and safety they brought to their work as they climbed trees seemingly defying gravity. They cleaned up the work area perfectly before leaving. Can’t recommend or not recommend. Their website was awesome but their receptionist says they won’t work in my zip. I’m about 5 miles from downtown but I guess they don’t service all of Charlotte. That’s OK every business has a service area but she was brusque about it. Maybe their actual tree service is great but their customer service could use some coaching up! Either way I guess I’ll never know. Calling an east side friendly tree service now.

We have been using Heartwood for over 15 years whenever our trees need pruning, removal, or other types of servicing. We appreciate their knowledgeable, professional service. They are polite, do a thorough job of clean up and always come when they say they will. We do not hesitate to recommend them.

I didn’t hire this business but it seems my neighbor did. I’m leaving this review because this company parked a giant truck blocking not one of my driveways but BOTH driveways to get into my house and refused to move the truck. They moved it after I had to drive across my lawn to get to my house. Incredibly rude.

The whole process from my initial call to the completion of the work was incredibly well done and professional. They truly love their work and it shows. I got three quotes and theirs was in the middle price-wise, (significantly less than the highest quote, and slightly more than the lowest) but I went with them because it was clear from my conversation with the arborist (Dustin) and the other folks that they really care about trees and their customers. Mr. Potter and his crew arrived on time, worked efficiently and ensured that all debris was cleared and/or removed upon their departure each day. I am always so pleased with the quality of work done by Craig Errington and the staff of Heartwood Tree. This time I had somewhat of an emergency as a large branch had broken and was leaning against the back side of my home. Craig came the next day and worked with Heartwood to have the problem solved yesterday. In addition, they spotted another problematic branch and made sure that was removed as well. Cost was very reasonable and the service was completed in a timely manner. They cleaned up the area and left no debris or clean up for me to do. I have recommended them to three co-workers, that have also used them at their own homes. We have shared our stories and we were all highly satisfied. They are fully insured, which is very important, if you are having services such as theirs, being performed on your property. I will continue to use them for all of my tree and shrub needs.

The tech that came out to our home to perform the work assessment and provide the estimate was frank, honest and friendly. The work was done quickly and efficiently. The cleanup was spotless. The men that did the work were gracious and flat out refused a gratuity. I thought the price was a little high, but worth it, since I have had similar size, cheaper tree trimming jobs done before and suffered all the way through them and after.

The name, Heartwood says it all. These guys know and respect trees. They are the Charlotte’s region’s premier tree professionals. Quick story: Once a neighbor needed some tree work done. I recommended Heartwood. Unfortunately he chose not to follow my advice. Instead, he chose Cheap. Which ended up being anything but when he came home from work to find Cheap presenting him with an unexpected big bill. Seems “expert” Cheap had taken it upon himself to plus things up a bit by cutting off every limb of the backyard tulip popular tree, leaving little more than the trunk and a few stubbed-off limbs. Cheap had taken it upon himself to butcher my neighbor’s beautiful, healthy tree.He explained that the tree would eventually grow back but this extra work had been necessary because he felt compelled to eliminate the potential ‘hazard’ of falling limbs to make the backyard ‘safer for the neighbor’s kids.’ Cheap is as Cheap does.If you love your trees, do me a favor when it comes time for tree work. My recommendation and advice is for you to call Heartwood Tree Service. Professional is as professional does.

My grandfather planted a Sycamore tree and so it’s been in our family for generations. However, during a storm it got struck by lightning and was badly damaged. However, instead of cutting it down we called Heartwood Tree and consulted them on how to preserve the tree. They gave us a method to do it; unfortunately we had to cut the body down, but we had the stump and after some initial fertilizer encouragement it began to grow again. So, thanks to Heartwood Tree for helping to keep tree in my family.

A selling point for our new home was the big, messy (mystery)oak tree in the back yard, but it had some obvious signs of concern. I knew I wanted a legitimate arborist for consultation and called Heartwood. My appointment was scheduled promptly and verified with an email reminder and copies of insurance certificates.The arborist (Tig Kabia) was very professional, answered my concerns and questions, and thoroughly explained his recommendations of Heartwoods services of growth regulator and deep-root fertilizer, as well as pruning/trimming, for our 41 water oak.The work was scheduled to occur within a two-month window with my full understanding that I would receive notice a few days ahead of appointment. I received timely notices by email when crew were firmly scheduled and was invoiced electronically with an easy and helpful e-payment link each occasion.Lisa and Norina in their Charlotte office provide great communication from the start (and including follow-ups) The crew was courteous and made reasonable efforts to minimize the chainsaw/wood-chipper disruption to our property and the neighborhood. I highly recommend Heartwood.

Since 1985, no one but Heartwood has cared for my treasured front yard oaks. On the latest occasion, the work was done expertly and in an efficient manner. The clean up was also first-rate.

They showed up on time. They were very thorough with clean-up. They were extremely careful taking limbs down as the neighbors garage is very close. They were very informative and knowledgeable about the condition of our tree and explained what they were doing and why.

We have a very large oak tree in our backyard that we needed a professional opinion from a certified arborist. We had purchased our home 30 plus years ago and there is also an in-ground 20 x 40 pool in close proximity to the tree. Both were here when we purchased the house. It never dawned on us that 30 years down the road (who thinks that far in advance?) that they would conflict with each other. I did some preliminary research and had seen the Heartwood trucks in the area south of downtown. I had also asked some friends who are general contractors and they gave us the name of another company to check out. We contacted them both and set up appointments. From previous reviews of Heartwood I knew that there was a small charge that they would credit you back if you ultimately went with them. This did not bother me as I wanted to know that we would not be wasting each others time. David Whitley was the individual that came out. We explained what we wanted and its proximity to the pool and ground / root issues. He thoroughly looked it over. It would have been an easy decision for us if he said the tree had to come down (Tree vs Pool, one was going to loose) but he did not. He stated the tree was healthy. He gave us a solution that would keep the tree and the pool. I asked for quotes on removing the tree and his plan. The quote came within several days. In the meantime I contacted another company and they came out to visit. My wife and I carefully explained what we were looking at and tried to keep to the same language and scope so we could compare. Upon the other arborist leaving we had already made up our mind based upon our comfort with the knowledge of Mr Whitley and Heartwood. The quote came (it was not the cheapest) and we went Heartwood. We were in no hurry and the work was scheduled about 6 weeks out. On the day the crew was scheduled they were right on time. We discussed the scope of work according to the quote (used laser pointers to show what was to be cut out) and got out of the way. Due to the trees location, pool, and totally fenced in yard they could not get any heavy equipment to the area. The crew did all the work by hand and climbed the tree with ropes and safeties. The large cut limbs were also lowered by rope to keep out of the pool. They moved so gracefully, almost like birds and squirrels do in the tree. The crew member on the ground had the hardest job as he had to drag all the limbs to the front of the house to be chipped up. When it was done the tree looked great. We could tell it was thinned out but it still had its beautiful shape. All the limbs overhanging the pool are now gone.Another reason we chose them is because of insurance. I wanted to make sure that we were covered in case of an accident. They provided all documentation on the inside of the quote, including their policy and phone numbers. We were also surprised by an insurance inspector that showed up to inspect their safety practices. She stayed about an hour but wrote very little. The way I see it they were looking out for me and to ensure a safe work-site.If you are not sure of what needs done I strongly feel that you can trust Heartwood. This was our first experience with them. Thanks

I set up an appointment and met with a Heartwood tree representative. There was no call no show thereafter. No explanation as to why they did not follow through, no nothing. I guess they thought that they werent going to make enough money off the job. A true professional would have at least called back. Myself & family ended up doing the job and the city picked up at the debris for free. It actually worked out for the better after all. Doing it with family saved me hundreds that Heartwood was charging.

Excellent service and courteous crew! Weve had a lot of work done on our house over the last two years and workers would always trample my flowerbeds and lawn. With Heartwood, they left no trace behind and even the most delicate plants were spared. I cant say enough about the quality of service. I had a previous tree service quote us double for the same job and they werent half as polite or knowledgeable (and I think now out of business). We will definitely be using Heartwood again and recommending them to all our friends.

I was awestruck at The Heartwood teams ability to tidy and prune the trees crowding and surrounding my home. The trees just look like they can breathe again! I would like to give a big shout out to the crew that began work at our home yesterday.Even though theyre back at it today (and most likely again tomorrow), they did an outstanding job of clearing debris from our back patio, walks, and driveway, even though they will need to do the same again today. Additionally, they carted away a good amount of leaves and had accumulated on the back patio and the sidewalk along Dilworth Rd (I ran out of time battling all the leaves last weekend).I was expecting our yard to look reasonably good when I got home from work, yet wasnt expecting everything to look as great as it did. In my mind, exceeding customer expectations is one of the reasons why Heartwood continues to be a leader in the Charlotte area.

While working at my neighbors house, they blocked the street so no one could get out. How about letting people know the day before so they can make arrangements? They also ran ropes up through our trees and used our water without asking. I called the office with my concerns and was told Id get a call back but 1 week later theres no return call. Complete lack of customer service is why I cant recommend them.

I have used Heartwood Tree Service once before last year and the issue I had was the shavings left for me to clean up after the stump grinding and finding additional roots still not ground. This year I contracted them to remove a huge Crap Myrtle in my yard and additional stumps including the Crape Myrtle. I have paid my bill in full but I am still dealing with having the remaining stumps from the Crape Myrtle removed. I have emailed , called, emailed again and received a response that they went to my yard and I would have to remove my steps in order to remove the partial stump of the crape myrtle because the grinder could damage it. Although I appreciate the concern I suggested they use a chainsaw to cut that portion and I would be fine with that because I feel that I paid for a job that is still not completed. They also said they didnt see the other stump when I have sent them multiple photos showing it and even went as far to paint the stump white to show what was needed.. I am still waiting for this to be completed.. I had two more trees to cut down up front but I made it clear it would be next year before I wanted those cut but I kept receiving calls to say we have it scheduled to cut the front trees down and they were sending out their associates and I would have to tell them no its the back yard that needs to be completed not the front yet...... If they cant even do the backyard right why would I continue to use a service for the other jobs I have. I really thought at first I found a great company but after the additional stumps left last year and now again this year.. I am leary of moving forward...There has been so much miscommunication as well as lack of communication to get this corrected

I have used Heartwood Tree Service to maintain and prune a large red oak tree on my property for the last three years. They have always been professional and courteous. They do excellent work!

No free estimates! They wanted $35 to come out and look at my dead tree which does not need a diagnosis, just removal. There are many tree services which give free estimates for removal.

I hired Heartwood Tree after a particularly windy day blew off one of my tree’s branches, and I thought it might be a good idea to get my tree trimmed to prevent any more weak branches flying off if another windy day came. They did a great job, I think my tree looks much much better now! And it’s probably stronger too.

I tried removing a tree once before; it didn’t turn out as I expected. Because of this past incident, I decide to hire an expert to do the job for me the next time around. I was able to have the old tree removed from my backyard thanks to Heart Wood Tree.

I have used Heartwood for several projects around our trees. I have always found them, especially Craig Errington, to be trustworthy and competent. No complaints here!

We had a very large tree stump in our backyard that we need to get rid of. We scheduled an appointment with Heart Wood tree who came and removed it with minimal distribution to us. The guys were so nice and friendly, we’re even going to call them to prune our trees when the time comes.

We had a stump in our front yard when we first moved in. Initially, it wasn’t a problem, but after a couple accidents involving the stump, I decided it was time to have it removed. We called these guys, and they quickly responded to our request. The next day, we woke up not having to worry about any more stump-related accidents.

Tree work done well, customer service unacceptableMy husband and I scheduled an appointment with Heartwood to remove two trees and grind two stumps. The appointment was originally scheduled for Monday, April 10th. One of the trees was large enough to require a crane for removal, meaning that branches were to be removed and taken over the house. For that reason, I planned to be out of the house with our three month old, just in case any branches or debris should fall. Throughout the day, I was in touch with our neighbor, who continued to inform me that no one had come to complete the work. My husband called and was told that the appointment had been moved to Thursday, April 13th-due to emergency tree work after severe weather. While we understand the need to reschedule due to emergency tree work, no one from the company contacted us via phone, text, or email. This presented a problem for two main reasons. 1-We had to be out of the house for another day. 2-We had landscaping scheduled to begin on Tuesday, after the tree work was complete, which then had to be postponed.When Thursday came, the crew arrived and let us know they were here. I was told that they would call me once they started removing branches and carrying them over the house, it was expected to start around 9 AM. As I tried to get my three month old to take a nap before we had to leave the house, I realized that they were already completing the crane work, without calling to inform me. This clearly created a dangerous situation, with no regard to our safety.We returned after a phone call stating that the crane work had been completed. Around 2 PM, the crew left, with no mention of whether they would return or not. The logs were left piled in the driveway and the stump was not ground. We were left to find out that the log removal and stump grinding would take place on later days and the work would be performed by different crews. This meant that our landscaping was put off for an even longer time.I have read many five star reviews of this company and would rate the work performed as well done. My complaint and the reason I will hesitate to use Heartwood again stems from the lack of communication, disregard for customers safety, and overall poor customer service.In several of the reviews Ive read, the owner has commented and said, We are not perfect, but we are responsible. I wholeheartedly disagree with that statement, because a responsible company would not treat customers the way we were treated.

I was very disappointed with the lack of communication about coming to do the job (drilling out stumps) and very upset when the job was done without my knowledge or oversight. They missed the original appointment then came without informing or notifying me. Consequently, a beautiful area of my property was irretrievably damaged by the drilling. Despite 2 conversations, staff assume no responsibility for either fault. I am extremely disappointed both with the service performed as well as with lack of responsibility and would not recommend them based on my experience2 weeks later: I received a phone call from the owner, who responded to my review by listening closely to my complaints, and then making a home visit to see the work done and discuss with me. He was communicative and apologetic, understanding my concerns and distress. He ended up not charging me for the original project, and I have asked him to come to assess some older trees on my property for possible treatments. I would contact him again for future work.

This is the 2nd time we have used Heartwood for tree services. Again they were very professional and very hardworking. They show up when they say they will, Tobias communicates the process and they work at the job with gusto! The tree we needed removed was very wide and tall and I was amazed at their precision in removing it. Some of it hung over our neighbors fence and play set and not one log ever damaged any structures. I thought that was miraculous!May,2016 We worked with Tigie to have major tree trimming done and we are very pleased with the results. He listened to our concerns and the work was completed according to our initial discussion. The crew cleaned up the area after the job was done. Heartwood Tree company is very professional and competent.

Worked with them for 2 jobs. No complaint with the quality of the work. However, communication with scheduling was poor. Dealing with them was a headache. The service provided was not in line with what they charge. Will not use them again.

The men came on time and were very professional. I recommend Heartwood Tree Service. They have worked on our trees and shrubs for 3 years. Everything is thriving nicely.

I had a fallen tree in my yard that did some damage to my neighbors fence. They came out quickly for the estimate and within 2 days had removed the fallen tree as well as other dead trees in my back yard. They got the job done with no problems and I felt the service was good. I would use them again.

I could not have been more pleased with Heartwoods performance in removing two very large sweet gum trees from my back yard. It took them two days to cut down trees and remove wood. It took another half-day to grind stumps. They were always very polite and certainly knew exactly what they were doing. I would always recommend Heartwood to everyone for removal of large trees!Jo Shivar

They showed up for the estimate and work when they said they would. All work was done as agreed upon and the clean up was great. Would highly recommend them.

The team arrived at the designated appointment time and did a professional job. Their work process was safe and they thoroughly cleaned up the property afterwards. I would use Heartwood again.

Very poor service. I called and made an appointment and nobody ever showed up to provide the necessary estimate. When I called the company to ask where they were I got an excuse and no apology for wasting my time.
