I had to put down my best friend and loyal furry companion of 11 years in January. I was blessed that my boyfriend had used them for pet cremation services in the past and knew how great of a job they do. From the moment that we step foot on their property, they made us feel comforted and that our baby was in good hands. Every detail of what they do is absolutely spot on, I would recommend them a million times over. They truly made it a little bit easier to lose Lou & never made me feel silly or over emotional about the loss of a pet. Thank you McAlister-Smith for all that you did for our family, it was appreciated more than words can convey.

In 2018 my fiancé and I brought our dog in to have her cremated after she passed. We were amazed with the treatment by McAlister -Smith with our beloved pet. They treated her with respect just any other family member. She was placed in a room and we were able to spend a few moments alone with her. Since then we have taken two more of our pets here. There is no other place that I felt I could have trusted with the treatment of my four legged family member. I appreciate everything they have done for my wife and I.

I lost my cat very tragically and unexpectedly and it was harder to deal with than I could have ever imagined. From the very first encounter with McAlister-Smith my heart was filled with comfort. I honestly felt more compassion from them than I did my own vet’s office. My beloved Persian cat, Fij, passed away in late-September 2020. He was 19. I got him as a kitten and had him my entire adult life. He had been there for me and loved me through college, law school, relationships, job changes, and everything else that life throws at a person. I loved him more than anything in this world and was overwhelmed with heartache after his passing. I retained McAlister-Smith to perform a private cremation. I also had them make a “clay paw” (a paw impression in clay). It was so special and turned out so beautifully that I broke down into tears when it was presented to me. (Note: If you’re debating whether to purchase a clay paw, trust me— it’s worth the extra money. Once in a while, I’ll pick it up, close my eyes, and rub my thumb across the impression — it feels just like one of his little paw pads.).Everyone at McAlister-Smith was so kind, compassionate and professional. They allowed my partner and I alone time with Fij before taking him to the crematory. We were in a small, private, dimly-lit room where his little body laid covered with a red shroud and surrounded by beautiful flowers. I clipped a few of his long white whiskers before saying a final tearful farewell. Once I gave the “okay,” his body was wheeled into the crematory and he was cremated. The next day, his cremains were returned to me.During one of the most difficult times of my life, McAlister-Smith gave me comfort and treated my baby boy like royalty. I highly recommend their services to anyone who’s lost a beloved furry companion.

The. West Ashley funeral home closed early despite someone telling us someone would be available til 4pm. They sent us to Mt Pleasant only to discover the ashes of our loved one were in West Ashley. When we called again we got an answering service. The woman on the other sent an email on our behalf and then promptly hung up. This email, unbeknownst to us, told the West Ashley location to move the Ashes to Goose Creek. A day later, when we had time off work, upon heading over to West Ashley, we called only for the Pet Director, Sean Johnson, to tell us the ashes had moved at 11am and should be in Goose Creek early afternoon. When we showed up at 4pm in Goose Creek, the ashes had not arrived so we proceeded to wait an hour for the driver, Bob Kerr, to arrive.

My dog had tragically been killed by a vet that was negligent. Then my other dog almost died also. My dog had already been out for a while the vet left him out all night. Then he was stuck there over the weekend. Me and a friend picked him up from the vet that Monday morning. Me and my friend watched as the vet pulled my beloved family member out of a deep freezer in a thin cheap garbage bag. Our actual vet gave us body bags to put around him and after we loaded him into the back of my 4runner. My friend put her Dads fire department blanket on him since Im a firefighter and she said now he will have firefighters burial. I called Mcalister they were do nice they said to bring Abrams right over so I did. Sean Johnsosn was so amazing he was able to lift Abrams up by himself and put him on a metal roll table. Sean walked us through everything and said he was going to try an get Abrams into one of the nice bags they use and try and fix him so I can see his beautiful face. He called right away while I was at the hospital with the other dog and said he couldnt let me see him. Abrams was to bad, he couldnt let me have that memory of him. When I came in at 10 am Sean had my Abrams ready to go he was able to un thaw him and get him out of the body bags and the garbage bag, he had him in a really nice bag, which was left of him anyways. Im still in shock that my healthy almost 3 year old dog died from a neuter and then my other dog almost died too, Im completely devastated, but the way Sean took care of my baby, with love and respect gave me some peace and closure, we even talked about our dogs and their silliness. He let me show him pics and videos of the beautiful dog that Avrams was. I highly recommend Mcalister they have great bed side manner, everyones extremely nice, and they treat your loss like its there loss. Thank You McAlister and thank you Sean Johnson being there during one of my darkest moments. Im truly grateful to you all.

Note - It was the James Island location, not the Bees Ferry Rd location.---I assume theyre reasonably competent at the technical part of their business and the decor is what youd expect for a funeral home. That part isnt hard to get right. I didnt care for the director putting so much emphasis on trying to tell people to keep their comments short. There werent that many people speaking and there wasnt another funeral after ours. I contemplated telling him to eff himself. Something on cable he didnt want to miss? Try not to make it so obvious this is just a business to you.

There is nothing easy about losing a loved one and perhaps the hardest thing of all is deciding what your next steps are. My father passed away rather suddenly on February 13th and this devastating loss was eased by the care and attention that our family received from Mandy Caceres at McAlister-Smith on Bees Ferry Rd. From the moment that she contacted us we all felt as though Mandy truly cared about us and what Dad would have wanted. She went above and beyond to ensure that he received everything that he deserved, especially as a 31 year Navy veteran. Mandy became a part of our family and grieved along with us and never made the experience seem as though it were just a business transaction. Although you never want to think about funeral planning, it is important to know who to turn to in a time of need. I would give Mandy 10 stars if I could and would not hesitate to reach out to her again in a time of need.

He gave me the name of the funeral home that he had sold it to. I called McAlister Smith Funeral Home and they were so kind. On April 26, 2000, we adopted the last two kittens of a litter. Born on April 4th, brothers Mookie and Tigger were only three weeks old and weighed only 4 and 3 ounces respectively. Sadly, Mookie passed in 2012, when were still residing in New Jersey. On June16, 2015, Tigger moved with us to Charleston. An extraordinary cat with a wonderful spirit, he was a beloved family member and loyal friend for almost 19 years. We shared a uniquely special bond. When Tigger crossed the Rainbow Bridge, at 3:16, on Sunday afternoon, February 16th, I took his passing very hard.Weve had and loved all of our many pets. Most were cremated. In each case, our pets were left at and their ashes picked-up from our veterinarian. Not knowing how or by whom our fur babies were being handled really bothered me. This time, thanks to the good folks at McAlister-Smith, parting with Tigger was such sweet sorrow.I spoke with Mary Wozniak (Director, Pet Services) and arranged a time to bring Tigger to their funeral home, in West Ashley. When we arrived, Mary was waiting at the door with a rolling cart bedecked with a pillow, a fleece blanket and some flowers. We took Tigger into a private viewing room where, unrushed, we were able to say some prayers, reminisce and spend our last few minutes together before bidding a tearful final farewell to our little buddy. The next day, just before Tigger was cremated, Mary called me with her personal cell phone, so I could say a prayer. It was a very bittersweet moment I will never forget.Tiggers ashes are back home where memories him will live forever...Thank you to Mary Wozniak, Denise McElwee and the good folks at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation for making a very sad and emotional time as beautiful as possible. I had researched local pet services for the occasion and had decided on McAlister-Smith Pet Cremation for several reasons. It was sealed when I first spoke to them and heard the genuine care and concern for the care of Katie Bugs remains and our concerns that she be handled properly. We delivered the remains of our beloved pet ourselves. The staff met us with genuine concern and cared for Katie with great dignity and respect.
