Illinois Department of Human Services lacks educated employees. I received a call from a highly uneducated company. The employee failed to provide details in regarding her phone call. I also felt like her communication towards me was fake, inappropriate and very unprofessional!

I called some time ago. First time someone hung up right after they answered second time Ms. Telemore was extremely disrespectful and was yelling in the phone, the conversation lasted maybe 30 seconds. It would be better to replace the people with machines for more efficiency.

I helped a family member apply for snap benefits and everything went through just fine. When it came time to do the telephone interview they scheduled it on a bad day for that family member. They had their phone with them the entire day and not a single call from the caseworker let alone anybody from DHS. We have called numerous times to get answers and only once got somebody on the phone after getting a notice they were denied for missing their interview call that was never made. When we tried to explain that no call was made my family member was basically told it doesnt matter and and they have to file from scratch all over again. This office is sloppy and lazy. This seems to happen a lot with them even when there isnt a covid-19 pandemic going on.I say clean house and fire them all and hire new competent staff. Do an investigation to find which employees are committing fraud and charge them with crimes and make them serve time in prison for abusing a position of power and also committing fraud on a government file and record system.

If I had any kind of complication that required me sitting there and waiting all day I would probably give this place one star. My three stars only reflect the last couple of times Ive had to go in and turn in paperwork. It was cleaner and more efficient than I remember it having been in previous years. Still a pretty unhappy place, in all.

How rude these people are. If they screw up your the one that pays the untimate price. A caseworker hung up in me today because she didnt like how I was asking questions. She thought I was screaming at her. Im not a soft spoken person, I was also in my kitchen which is pretty big so it might have sounded louder through the speaker. Not one time did I ever scream at this person. I was just trying to figure out what happened to some information and was told that she doesnt get paid enough to deal with people like me. I laughed at her and then tried to continue with the interview and she got mad and got an even bigger attitude supposedly with her supervisor standing at her side and hung up on me, she hung up on me. Its sad that people go here for help and they have absolutely no customer service or communication skills, but yet have to deal with the public on a daily basis. Maybe you should find a different job if you dont think you get paid to deal with problems that may arise with people that help pay your wage!

They take paperwork, say they will get back to you and never do. I try to call, and there is one of those crazy recordings (Press 1, Press 2, Press 3...), nearly impossible to get a person on the phone. Eventually it times out, and the recording says, exiting the system, and you get hung up on. I have in the past sent faxes that they say they never received, I have confirmed faxes a week after sending them and told that I will be notified of the result of the review of my application by mail, and nothing ever comes in the mail. I am bounced back and forth from one bureaucrat to another, given conflicting information that changes between Springfield and the local office. I guess my family is going to have to stay uninsured and take a hit at tax time. If you are an elderly person forget about it. My most recent attempt to call resulted in a phone that rang and rang until you are eventually hung up on. This is your tax dollars at work people, but these welfare recipients will be the first to tell you what taxpayers do and dont like to pay for. Hypocrisy. The reality is, that nobody can afford health care anymore, thanks to bureaucrats like this, lawyers, and insurance companies that have outrageously exploited people with ridiculously marked up prices.

This DHS office represents the worst of bureaucracy. Recently, I submitted a redetermination application for SNAP which I get on a monthly basis. I turned in everything on time, and supposedly all is approved, but I still havent received any benefits, and it has been 19 days since the date I would normally get them. I have been forced to go to the local (and private) soup kitchen to survive. Apparently, the richest country in the world cant provide even a minimal safety net to its citizens. I complained to the drones who work there repeatedly, but all I get in response is that they are still processing the application. All the slackers who work there should be fired. I would gladly take one of their places.

The phone rings incessantly. Oftentimes, like today, the automated message says that the office is closed and doesnt open until 8:30 a.m., yet its five minutes to 9. The facility is clean, which is a good thing, because the wait times are ridiculously long.

I have been waiting 2 months to try and get SNAP. IN Bloomington, when I applied, it only took them 20 mins to call me. I dont have a car, so I cannot just drive up to the office and try to speak to someone .When I call, NO ONE ANSWERES. I press 0 over and over hoping someone will answer. NOPE. I FINALLY get a phone interview, scheduled to call between 8 and 10,no one calls!!!!!!!

Impossible to get any human contact. Voicemails say they will call back within 48 hours and staff never does. This is a social service agency, yet they do not serve. I still pay taxes off my wages which, in turn, pays these peoples salary. What a waste! Let me keep my taxes instead of wasting it on useless state employees, then I wouldnt need to apply for benefits!

DHS caseworkers and reps never answer the phone, they have inconvenient hours for people who work between 8am-5pm, their calculations to determine Snap benefits for individuals is absurd especially for those who work hard and try to make a living to feed their children in a highly and costly economy and still barely make enough to pay bills, there always seems to be miscommunication between Springfield office and the local office and the list can go on. I hope that DHS can develop a better plan to help people who are in difficult situations and binds such as not making enough to provide for children and still cutting Snap benefits down for less than $100 a month, individuals with disabilities and elderly, and individuals who have no transportation. Who can really feed their children for less than $100 a month even if they are working a full time job. That makes absolutely no sense how they calculate earnings.

Its very difficult to get through to anyone without having a direct number or an extension to your caseworker. i also dont have a car, so it makes it more difficult to find a way to turn things in when i have an appointment.Even with these hoops to jump through, Im still extremely grateful to have medical assistance that help pay for my prescriptions and doctors visits. throughout my pregnancy i didnt pay a dime in medical bills. everything i saved could go toward diapers, baby things, and food. :) thanks to DHS, i had/have the opportunity to be on their LINK program and Medicaid. if you think about what you have to do to get there...and how much it winds up saving you in the end, its been totally worth it.Thank You. :)
