4 months ago i bought a used/refurbished bike from them, and i havent had any problems with it yet despite riding it quite often. the staff was super friendly and informative. they helped me pick out the perfect bike!

No nonsense, no upsells, no bs, timely service, straight advice if solicited, dank coffee while you wait. this is the shop.

Good place for fixing a flat, but not for anything more complicated.Friendly staff, but disorganized and no management. I had a laundry list of things that I wanted fixed on my bike. The technician took all this down on a work order. Later, when I was told my bike was fixed, not even half of what I wanted was done. So I went back later and everything was done. But there was still a problem with the gear shift. They fixed it, but now there are still problems with it. Granted, I have an internal hub and they might not have that much experience with that. I will have to find another bike shop to try to fix this properly.

The staff at Neutral Cycle are friendly and try their best to explain whats going on with my bike (I dont know much about bikes). Had to fix both wheels and brakes on separate occasions, all of which they handled really efficiently and well.

Came here for an old bike fix, very happy with the service. the prices here are affordable and reasonable, they are very transparent about the cost!

UPDATED.The worst bike shop in Champaign. NEVER finish work on time. Called in for packing my bike on Thursday and was told work can be done on Friday. Brought my bike in on Friday and was told it would be ready on Saturday. I walked in Sunday and my bike is still sitting on the rack. I asked when would it be done, and the guy simply said “I dont know”. Go somewhere else if you could because they dont care about customers.UPDATE: my bike was packed immediately after my 1 star review. However, they packed a $3000 large enduro bike into a women road/commute bike box, used cardboard as cushion instead of foam, and used duct tape on cardboard box. I have never seen such a poorly packed bike in my life. I will rather drive to bike shops in Bloomington instead of visiting here again.

I have been here several times and they are always great! I brought my old bike in to have it serviced a few times, and then bought a refurbished bike from them when my old bike was stolen (they have a great discount program for victims of stolen bikes). They have great customer service, very helpful and friendly. Some other bike shops in town are obviously targeting the high end/racing end of the spectrum of bike owners, whereas Neutral Cycle is definitely geared toward the commuter, student, recreational rider.

Brought my bike and my fiancé’s bike in today before we started riding for the summer. The people working were incredibly friendly, helpful, nonjudgmental, and hardworking. They worked for a while on my bike, without complaining at all. I was glad to give them my business and will continue to do so. I recommend it to anyone looking for bike help, parts, etc.

We went to neutral cycle recently to rent bicycles for the summer. After going there they realized that the bicycle that we paid rent for isn’t the one that will be rented out to us. Over and above this, the `promised’ cycles were only going to be available 3-4 days after the start of the lease period which wasn’t informed before hand.Over and above this, when we tried to negotiate the rent since 3-4 days without bikes would cost us money. The head manager screamed at us and said that “No Bikes for you, I am going to refund the money back to you” and stormed out of the store aggressively.Really bad service. I had heard such great things about this place but the treatment we received was horrible.

Recently bought a new bicycle here. Very helpful staff with expertise in the matter, and the price is very reasonable. Will definitely recommend to anyone who needs a bike (old and new) or who needs their bike fixed.

Went in today after a small accident to fix a wobbly front wheel. Nori(sp?) immediately got to work and fixed it in front of me in minutes. I bought this bike here after my previous one was stolen. 10/10 recommend this shop and it’s cute staff.

I’ve been coming here for years and always appreciate the good work they do here. Went in recently to get my bike fixed and they didn’t test ride it before giving it back to me. Robbie was super helpful though and was able to fix the remaining issue quickly and didn’t charge me for the extra repairs.

Back again recently to get two new spokes. They installed and trued the wheel the same day!! This shop is the best, hands down!! We bought a bike from them and forgot about the 30 day tune up we had and then needed service and they still did the work for free. Great staff who never criticize your bike, they just get the work done. They offer recommendations but Ive never felt upsold. They have even told me that I didnt need certain things when Ive asked about them. We have five bikes in our family and this is where we go for service.

Brewlab next door is part of the same company, and there is even a door right to the coffee shop inside the building! Kind and knowledgeable staff helped me fix a simple problem as a new cyclist and taught me how to handle it in the future. While I have a very used bicycle right now, I know I have a repair shop I can trust if I have any issues and I know where to go when Im ready to invest in a new bike.

I own a old bike that my grandfather gave me and it for sure has seen better days. Despite its many issues I keep it for its sentimental value. The staff at Neutral Cycle are very knowledgable, and are always able to fix it up for me. For the fair prices, fantastic service, and great location I highly recommend to anyone riding a bike on campus.

I had to go to Neutral Cycle to get some links added to a bike chain I purchased elsewhere that was too short. My work and classes schedule are hectic so I was pleased they are open a little later. The employee, Mike, was kind and helpful. He added the links quickly, explained what he was doing as he went, and acknowledged other customers as they came in. I wont hesitate to return if I need anything else.

Every time Im here there is wonderful customer service, and a very knowledgeable staff. They always tell you whats going on with your bike if you inquire and want to know. The one time I had an issue over a repair cost they were not ride, and figured out the issue very quickly (it was just a mistake with their entry).It can get very busy during the school semester here, so plan early and call in to set an appointment. During the summer Ive only ever had to wait a few days (~3 days max).Always helpful, and very up front with pricing and what you need versus maintenance or upcoming costs. Very reasonable pricing compared to the other bike shops in town.TL;DR Great service, reasonable pricing, knowledgeable staff. Happy returning/continuing customer.

I have now had three good experiences so far with this shop. Matt, Tim and Mike have all given top-notch, quick-turnaround service. I just had Mike true my wheels and overhaul the hubs on my fixed gear (< 24 hrs.) and they are suuuuper smooth now. Amazingly, he was able to squeeze me in during the crazy-busy time of the year when all the new students were arriving in town. 10/10 would recommend.

They were incredibly nice, professional and courteous both on the phone and in person. They took my bike which had been sitting in storage for over 3 years and did a full tune up and got it ready for ridding in just a couple days. They didnt try to sell me stuff I didnt need. The tune up was $45 and my bike is back in great condition. I highly recommend!

I went here a few weeks ago to get a bike lock and the owner actually put the bike lock holder on my bike and taught me how to use it as I was not familiar with this type of lock. While I was there, he also put a knew kick stand on my bike, helped me pump up my tires, and checked my bike for any other potential problems. It was wonderful to have everything taken care of at one time and the owner was very friendly, personable, and knowledgeable. I would recommend this shop to everyone!

Amazingly helpful and down to earth staff. Gave my old rusty a great tune up for a reasonable price and even gave me tips on easy maintenance I can do to prevent/troubleshoot a problem I was having w one of my brakes. They not only perform the service requested, but also educate in bike things. Certainly a great community resource that this town is lucky to have :) ..oh yeah and FREE AIR!

This place is absolutely fantastic. Very helpful staff will get you what you need right away for the best price on campus. They offer free air and chain lube any time, and they let you use their bike stands to change flat tires etc. I dont go anywhere else on campus for service or parts.

Took forever and when I got the bike back they didn’t even fix the original problem I had brought it in for :/Was very disappointed.

Every single worker was helpful and kind to me. I went in just to tighten some bolts - ended up needing a half hour plus I had to remove my tire. They were extremely knowledgeable about bikes and refused to charge me for using their tools.

I brought my vintage bike in for routine maintenance and was looking for advice on how to change it from a road bike into a tri bike for my first race. Their prices were very reasonable, work was performed quickly, and they kept in communication with me as additional work was required to get the bike up to racing specs. Every staff member I dealt with was very friendly and I appreciated how honest they were when making recommendations on what enhancements to make to the bike. They didnt try to up sell me on bike components and take advantage of my lack of biking knowledge. I definitely would recommend shop to anyone in need of bike repair, supplies, or even a new bike. I will be a repeat customer!

Last week I brought in my bike to get a flat tire repair. It was no ordinary flat. Long story short, it was something from the inside of my rim causing the flat which they discovered after losing three inner-tubes. They repaired the flat and didnt charge me for the labor. They were great; I highly recommend them.

The owner, Tim, understands absolutely what it means to put the customer first. Ive never seen another business owner both so passionate and good-natured. Most friendly, honest, affordable bike shop in town. Never been up sold products or services that I didnt need. The closest Ive come to that was when I came in to buy grease and they recommended a grease gun nozzle attachment. It was a really good suggestion! Greatly reduces the mess and makes it far easier to apply the correct amount of grease. Thats the kind of up selling that one should do.Ive always been treated well, even after bringing in my girlfriends new bike for a shifting issue, despite her looking at their bikes and deciding to purchase something online.

I was in a freak bike accident and my poor Rocket was pretty banged up. I took her over to Neutral cycle and within a week they had me up and riding again. The guys were all super nice and the price for replacing my fork and labor was very reasonable. Ill go again and again.

Took my bike in after about a year and a half of not using it. It was not a brand they sell, but they treated it the same way I imagine they treat the bikes they sell there...very well! They gave it a look, tested a few things, even gave it a ride. Afterwards they told me what I needed to get fixed, what could wait (but needed an eye kept on) and what was perfectly fine. They changed my chain and everything was done quickly and professionally, and honestly, I never felt like they were trying to sell me on repairs I didnt need. And it didnt cost a lot! It was my first experience at Neutral Cycle and I will definitely be using them for my future bike repair needs!

I rented a bike for a few months. I was sceptical to the deal at first, and if I would get my money back since I have a foreign bank. The service turned out to be amazing, and just a great deal. About 100 dollars for renting a great bike (that I still miss), and the deposit payed back without issues.

Hands down the best bike shop in Chambana. I have gone multiple times to get things fixed or order parts and the service has always been above par. If you are looking to get a new bike or simply get something fixed on your current bike this is the place to go.

The mechanics here are the best in town. Theyre great to talk with and are great at letting you know whats going on with your bike and give realistic estimates.

The staff here is very helpful, and they never try to cheat you on service. They even offer free air and lube. They have a variety of parts and accessories, especially for Purefix bicycles, which is the main focus of this place. However, their selection of other bikes is minimal, though they do sell other bikes. I would recommend checking this place out if youre looking for a new bike or replacement parts for your old one.

I walked in here the other day and bought a few new parts from one of the staff members that was very knowledgable in his description of how to install my new parts, which included a new bike chain (something I have never shortened by myself before) and a new tube. I would recommend this ship to anyone looking for good deals and quality service.

Ive gone into the store three times in the past week: first time just to look around, second with my friend who had a broken bike, and third because my own bike had an issue. Each time I was greeted nicely and was met with professional opinions. You can see right off the bat that these guys know what theyre doing. The shop itself is very simple itself and has a clean aesthetic to it. My bike had to get its rear tube replaced and I bought a kickstand. The price was very reasonable and they even adjusted my handlebars for free. Would highly recommend this bike shop for any bike related issues/questions.

Neutral Cycle in Champaign is GREAT!I took in my 30+-year-old bike to get revamped. Josh checked itover, (without judgment I might add), told me what should be done but also the least I could repair but still be safe with a nice ride.I chose the cheaper path and it was great to be on a bicycle again! This time without a baby seat or a young child to worry about.Within a week the back wheel was stuck. I called Neutral Cycle thinking I would have to fix the things I chose not fix. Matt, the manager, walked me through a repair over the phone. When that didn’t fix my problem and I wouldn’t be able to get into the shop for a few days he offered to stop by my house for an inspection on his way home from work. (I was kind of in route for him)Who does that?!After the repair he told me to stop in the shop when I’m out so he could adjust something else but didn’t have the tool. A week later I was able to get over to the shop where they would not accept payment for the house call or the adjustment that day.Obviously, Neutral Cycle offers excellent customer service, a knowledgeable crew who enjoy their jobs, everyone is super friendly even though busy and, I feel, priced fairly.Buy, Rent, or Bicycle Repairs … go to Neutral Cycle! Neutral Cycle is the place to go if youre looking for a new bike or looking to get an old bike repaired. They are courteous and helpful. Service is quick and inexpensive and the job is always done right!

Ive been to Neutral Cycle twice now. The first time was to tune up my bicycle and it has never been better. The second time was to get a replacement part and they just gave it to me for free. I highly recommend going to Neutral Cycle for anything bicycle related.

Very expensive for bike renting and bad customer service. Only one size of rent bike and the bike is not good to ride. I chose the full year rent in the begining and they told me I can change my plan as one semester only when I return the bike at the end of the first semester. However, when I returned it, they told me I cannot get the rest refund and everything they told me before is wrong. Really ridiculous and angry experience. I strongly recommend do NOT rent bike there.

They didnt have time to fix my bike for me, but offered to let me borrow one of their tools so that I could do the job. I bought a part from them for $20, and was back on my bike in half an hour. These guys are super nice!!

I went there some weeks ago because I had a flat tire but the guy insisted on doing a $60 full service to the bike. As I didnt want to spend so much money on my bicycle, the guy told me that he would repair my flat tire in one week because he was too busy. I dont recommend this place. Instead, I went to Bakers bikes in Urbana. On the contrary, they were very kind and they fixed my tire in 5 minutes for 10 bucks!

Everything great about this place thats already been said is totally true. The main thing, however, that I think stands out about Neutral Cycle are their masterfully-written, data-driven articles on bike theft and how to properly lock your bike that (frankly) no one else has done equally well. Sure weve all heard sensible notions about exactly what you can to do to keep your sled safe, but Neutral Cycle actually did the legwork of sifting through police reports (from three departments no less!) and presenting the resulting data in clear and interesting ways. Not only did they identify hot spots around the UIUC campus where your bike is most likely to get pinched, but they also figured out which months of the year are especially prone to bike theft (its August and September btw, so watch out!). The owner Tim is as knowledgeable about bikes as he is congenial, and the whole staff generally just enjoys working on bikes. In short, I dont go anywhere else when I need something.

Worst bike shop I have ever been to in my lifetimt!!!! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR BIKE. Overcharging, rude, and very much sexist employees. Will take advantage if you are a girl and a student. Very arrogant and acted as if I didnt know a thing. Was recommended this place but rather than directly helping me with my tire they told me my bike had about 100 more problems tht they were going to overcharge me. Thank goodness I just said I wanted the tire but with that it took them way longer to take care of my bike than they told me. I got my bike back with more problems than the one I came in with and they refuse to refund me. Coming into this male-dominated shop I should have just left and gone to the campus bike center where students who actually care can help which is where I went to after and they are more honest than Neutral Cycle ever will be. They are a bunch of scammers. And the only reason I am ranting is because I care for my bike A LOT. Have had it for years and never had such a bad experience at a bike shop like this one before.

I came to UIUC couple of days ago and thought it was a good time for the bike cuz I always wanted one. The staff were nice and friendly. After talking with other bike lovers at UIUC, Neutral Cycle had a good reputation for doing honest business.I went for the semester rental policy which meant that I would pay $70 for a semester. So far I havent had any issues with the bike, and I hope Ill keep it throughout my college career.

Awesome store! I was looking to buy an entry to mid level road bike in Champaign-Urbana. Im really glad these guys became a Felt dealer, because previously my only option in terms of shopping for road bike was Durst cycle. Both shops had a bike that I loved and ultimately I went with Neutral because of their friendly staff and better service plan on their bikes. I would definitely recommend this shop if your looking to buy a bike in Champaign-Urbana!

I went in to look at what type of bikes were available and to buy a bike in the near future, Tim assisted me. They had very few bikes in the shop and needed to bring over what they thought I would like from their warehouse. Tim took my info to contact me when they had brought over some bikes for me to look at, he said it would be two or three days. Six days went by, I went back to the shop wanting to look at bikes to buy. They still didnt have the bikes from the warehouse as they hadnt had time. It has been over two weeks and I still have not been contacted.I have since visited Champaign Cycle and Durst Cycle. They both had very helpful staff and had the bikes in their showroom for me to look at on the spot. They explained each type of bike to me and assisted me in deciding what I needed for my lifestyle. Champaign Cycle is active in the community and raises funds for the upcoming Rail Trail for the Champaign Urbana Park District.Neutral Cycle is convenient for the students on campus, but I will not be back. I am very disappointed in their service.
