My senior cat was sick. Took her in and they were amazing. Made me feel like family and completely understood my feelings. They gave me time with her and basically held my hand throughout the process. Gave me a clay foot print top remember get by. Let me have the room afterwards for some private time. I will always love these guys for the experience.

My dog got a minor electrocution scare the other day after my normal vet was closed. Blue pearl got us in immediately, thoroughly examined my dog and thoroughly explained to us the risks, warning signs and symptoms, what to keep an eye out for and how my dog was doing. They were very respectful and you could tell they truly loved animals and have your fur babys best interests in heart and mind. Hopefully we never have to go back, but if we ever do have another pet emergency this will be the first place I call. Very clean and comfortable clinic. Waiting area had very comfortable furniture and was spotless. Vending machine at end of hall for long waits.

My 3 year old American Bully had a high ingestion of ibuprofen and I was told to come here. Although they do require a deposit (the middle ground of the high and low estimated cost of your pet’s care), their services are worth it. I called on a Friday and was able to get in right away. I had to drive an hour and a half to get here, so I gave them an estimated time of arrival and they were ready when I got there. We were able to go in together and they were very good about keeping other dogs out of the way until she was in a room (she does not do well with other dogs - let them know if your pet also does not, they will work with you to keep everyone safe!). Although the wait was long, it was expected being they continued to receive patients all the through the night and I did not see anyone turned away. They had nice separate rooms to wait in if your were gonna be there for a while. Staff were some of the kindest people I’ve ever met, they gave me options when I couldn’t afford their initial treatment price, made sure I knew exactly what was going on and what the plan for the future was. When she had to stay for a few days, they called me at least twice a day and anytime anything changed, whether good or bad. Although it was expensive, it was only an extra $120 to be seen as an emergency without an appointment and Harley needed a LOT of care. When I did get to take her home, I was issued a refund because my actual total didn’t cost as much as my deposit and all the vet techs insisted I couldn’t take my girl home because they were keeping her!! I was told she had someone in her kennel every hour giving her love while they themselves were decompressing. This will likely not be the case with all pets (Harley is training to be an ESA and adores people), it is just an example of the way the staff goes above and beyond to care for your pet. I was especially impressed with their use of a Chinese herb in her care, rather than just pumping her full of more medicine. Harley is now fully recovered due to their care, you would not be able to tell she just suffered kidney and liver damage and had a severe GI bleed through her entire GI tract not even a week ago. Thank you so so much to the staff at BluePearl for getting my girl back to me!

Fully staffed pet emergency center, hard working doctors and technitions who seem to be focused on the best outcome possible for the animal. Frequent very busy, so busy that at times they are unable to accept new patients. They asked for an excessive amount of personal information at check in such as social security number etc. They take your pet from you upon arrival for examination outside of owners presence which is somewhat unsettling. They are able to issue most medicines an animal might need on site. Very useful when you have a pet health emergency.

What an amazing facility when you have a pet emergency and especially on the nights weekends and holidays when you cant get a hold of anyone else. Our cat was very well cared for and we were informed every step of the way. We did have to pay in advance, but we received a refund for a portion that was unused when we picked her up which was fantastic. If you have a pet emergency or a pet who is just seriously ill, I would highly recommend this place!

They cared for my deceased pet and myself with love and much respect. I am glad I went there during this difficult time. We took our dog there and were asked up front for $1750.00. On the day we picked him up, they didnt provide $1750.00 worth of service so we had an almost $800.00 credit. Unfortunately I wrote a check, which they immediately turned into an e-check, it came out of my account immediately. However, they wont give me the refund immediately, I was told it takes about 20 days to get a refund from their corporate office.(Tampa) Well its been a month, they have been using our money, and still no check. I am not happy and from what Ive seen on other google reviews and the Better Business Bureau, neither are a lot of other pet owners. Better Business Bureau, rates them as a D-. Unfortunately this is not a local veterinarian, it is a BIG CORPORATION. Make sure you dont write them a check!!!

Our 6 year old Boston terrier Sophie unexpectedly started having violent seizures. Our normal vets was closed with no after hour help, Just a message saying to call a nearby animal hospital. I called 12 other vets in our area and NONE of them would see us because we are NOT their coustomer. A friend of ours told us to call BluePearl.They were very helpful and advised us to make the almost 2 hour car ride there due to the frequency and severity of her seizures. When we arrived they took her back immediately and administered meds to help. They were very friendly and factual. Sophie stayed 2 nights while they did testing and gave meds. This was a very scary time for my husband and me . We love our fur babies like our children. I am very thankful for the service we got from them and so grateful Sophie is on the mend. She will more than likely need seizure meds the rest of her life but thats O.K with us!Thank you BluePearl from the bottom of our hearts! ❀

Absolutely hate this place and will never go back here if I can help it, the only reason I even went is my dog was in a emergency situation and they were the only vet open on a Saturday night at midnight, but if you go you better be ready to spend a few hundred dollars, they require your to pay upfront before they do anything and the charge 2-3 times more than any other vet Ive ever seen. ($120 just to have a veterinarian in in the room and look at my dog, $140 for one xray. They used to do payment plans atleast but now you have to pay upfront or they wont do anything.

The staff and service were amazing. Prices were very comparable to my normal vet. Hours made it perfect for the emergency I had with my dog. They made sure I knew what was going on and what my options were before performing anything. After it was all said and done they explained everything I could do to help him and even faxed all the info over to my normal vet. They are a great facility to have here in CR and if another emergency happens to any of my pets, I absolutely would feel comfortable taking them there.

The lack of compassion and empathy from the receptionist was astounding, not to mention incredibly hurtful. My families childhood pet of almost 14 years was dying, and my mom called in to see about euthanizing. Last time we had to euthanize a pet we had to set him in a cage and wait nearly an hour before going in due to covid. We didn’t want to do that again, and my mom simply asked if it would be okay that we come in since we were fully vaccinated. We feared our dog would die alone in a kennel before we got in. This receptionist told her word for word, that she was being hostile. I was right next my mother during this call, and she was by no means hostile. She simply asked a question while stressed, because our best friend was dying in front of us.That is the worst thing imaginable you could say to someone while their beloved pet, their family member, is dying. We understand protocols, but to be treated like that was inexcusable.It’s not something we will forget for a long time, it will probably stick with us forever. It was an incredibly cruel and hurtful thing to say. I wish this wasn’t the only emergency vet clinic near. Because after that experience, we never want to bring a pet here ever again.

It was amazing. I was scared by how much my kitten was crying after being neutered and he was unable to pee, but they took care of him and even gave me a little bit of pain medicine to help him through it. They were courteous and quick with getting him in back to be seen and gave him fluids as well as he was also dehydrated.

There is no way for me to comment about the care behind the doors of Blue Pearl pet hospital. I never got past the vestibule.But, what I will say is their billing practices are suspect at best. Reflecting, I feel like I was at a timeshare presentation. They would not give me my dog until I gave them another $1,000.Upon examining our invoice. It seems that they gave our dog every conceivable medication that could do anything for him. Potentially numerous medications were not needed in his recovery from his ailment.I very likely will never go back.

Thought our puppy had parvo we talked to our local vet without even seeing him there advice was just put him down, save him the suffering so we took him to bluepearl and found out it was not parvo, he had swallowed a toy. They went above and beyond taking care of him and we have our healthy happy pup back. Thank you so much to all the staff who helped our family

I took my dog to see Dr. Graham, the dermatologist. The reception staff was very nice and professional. Her technician was great and Dr. Graham was amazing! She took plenty of time to explain everything to me, gave me all of the options available and let me decide on the route I wanted to go. She also answered all of the questions I had. She’s very knowledgeable and caring. The price was definitely worth the service we received, and I didn’t think the price was bad at all especially considering she’s a specialist. We drove 1.5 hrs to see her and we didn’t wait long at all to be seen and then I was contacted by the technician and then the DVM within a short amount of time. I was very happy and will continue to go back as instructed for follow up appointments. This is the second pet of mine she has seen and i highly recommended her to anyone in need of dermatologist.

It appears this facility has changed ownership or management. In the past, I have been able to take dying pets to the hospital to be put to sleep. I have done this a couple times when the process is prolonged and the animal appears to be suffering. Today I took my elderly cat who is slowly dying and the hospital turned me down, not once but twice, without even doing as much as a visual examination of my cat. There were zero cars in the parking lot - belying their claim that they are too busy. I don’t know the motive for turning away a paying customer/patient but I am upset and I hope they do better in the future. To turn away a patient without even a cursory examination seems problematic, especially over a long holiday weekend when the cat will not be seen by his vet for 3 days. I am not pleased with the service I received today.

There is no way to know what is actually happening with your pet because they dont let you inside. You put your pet in a crate and leave. Pandemic or not, someone should be allowed to be with the pet. I cant imagine how scary that would be for an animal. If its not severe emergency, I would recommend any other veterinary clinic.

Outstanding staff & vets! My girl had to be admitted to doggie ICU for a couple days. Every person I spoke to on the phone was so kind & gentle & informative. They encouraged me to call for updates any time of day or night. I work in (human) healthcare & know how stressful & crazy a day can get, ESPECIALLY a busy ER. So their enthusiasm for giving me thorough updates did not go unnoticed. Highly recommend!

Made an appointment in order to check a couple of skin warts my dos has and remove them if needed (as I was asked to have my dog fasting starting the night before, I assumed the issue will be taken care of on the spot).Instead of getting an appointment with a dermatologist/surgeon (after describing the issue at hand over the phone), we got an appointment with an internal medicine vet who recommended having the warts removed. Being an internal medicine specialist, she of course couldnt remove it herself which means I need to schedule another appointment and pay a 2nd doctor for it to be treated. I hope the $76 I paid today was worth losing me as a client.

They took very good care of my Stevie girl and we didnt have to wait long for treatment. Since it was considered an emergency appointment the prices were higher than those at our normal vet, but not exorbitant, and very fair.

If I could give more than 5 Stars I would. I am a foster mom for cats in rural Marengo IA. On the evening of June 21st, I found one of my kittys laying in the grass lathargic and softly crying. I called BluePearl Pet Hospital and was told he had probably been poisoned. I rushed him to BluePearl where his fate was confirmed.The staff took the utmost care to make him comfortable and to address my concerns. As a foster, my budget is severely limited. The staff did not charge me for the visit, euthanastion or the coffin.I want to thank everyone on duty that night for their care and compassion. 🐈🐾🐈🐾

I called tonight and was put on hold by the receptionist and told she was grabbing a nurse. I was on hold for 25 minutes. I then called back and the nurse I talked to was very rude and unprofessional. She wouldnt answer my questions, just kept telling me well if youre concerned bring them in. Of course I was concerned or I wouldnt be calling a 24 hour vet. When youre pet isnt acting like themselves and doing behaviors that youve never seen before but not sure if its an emergency or not, you should be able to call a place like this and be treated with compassion. That is not the case here.

Im NOT impressed! I know that the pandemic is still going on but my 4 month old puppy had just been attacked by a pitbull and was bleeding pretty badly from her face. We had to sit in the parking lot while she is bleeding and call a number where the first question asked was have you been see here before? Not, whats the nature of your emergency.. then they had us bring her to the door where i handed her off and then they called to get MY info. 20 minutes later they called again to get my puppys info and then said she will be seen in about 30 minutes.... the doctor snapped at me over the phone when i questioned something. This was after we hadnt heard from them in over an hour. They ended up looking at her not doing anything about any of the wounds, still bleeding with a few pills 3 hours later! NOT IMPRESSED!!

Decided to take him home and he is doing insulin shots though our vet and on antibiotics. Seems to be doing better!! Seemed they just over charged and didnt want to help him.

I recently had to take my cat in overnight for pancreatitis, and I was a nervous wreck! They were so kind from the beginning, making sure to get a tech on the line before I even drove her there, and made the best of a scary situation. Even though they were busy at the time, they immediately took Razzle and within an hour began testing and treatment. The next morning the doctor called with amazing news that she was responding well and her labwork was normal! Shes been home with us for a day now and still doing wonderfully. I really dont know how staff has the strength to handle such hardship every day, but I am so thankful! While I dont wish that any pet have to go to the ER, they are in good hands here. Thank you again!

My husband brought our dog in for stitches for a laceration on her side. He arrived at 3 in the afternoon. He was told 2-3 hour wait. Due to COVID, he had to wait in the parking lot, I totally understand this. He proceeded to wait close to 6 hours for her procedure to be completed. He called several times to check and was told β€œshe’s almost done” or β€œshe’s still coming off sedation.” I understand procedures can take longer than expected but I feel as if waiting that much longer is a bit excessive. I will say they kept they price to the lower end of what we were quoted.

We drove 75 miles to have our cat rescued from low blood sugars. They seen her right away but she was in a comma for too long. They let us say goodbye and put her in a place out of suffering. Took a very sick little kitten in and all they cared about was money money money. A simple blood draw is 300. Easy to rack up 2,000 or more in minutes. Took very sick kitten home from here with no idea of a diagnosis and to a vet the next day who could tell she had bitten a wire and been electrocuted. Malpractice.....how would they miss that. Apparently it was very apparent inside her mouth. Call Frey Pet Hospital or anywhere else first.

I couldnt bear to see my cat suffer through the weekend but it was Friday at 4:30pm and all the other vets in town said they couldnt help till Monday. I thought going to an emergency clinic would be too expensive but it was not. It cost nearly the same as the other vets wouldve charged. They did a $600 echocardiogram even though they have no one on staff qualified to read it and then failed to alert us that the Cardio clinic we were trying to get in to would not accept their outside echo. An additional annoyance is when you are on hold on the phone with them, which happens a lot, you are constantly bombarded with advertisements for their services.

I recently had to bring in my 15 year old cat who had been dealing with heart disease for the last year. I am very appreciative of Dr. Zylstra and Dr. Karau for keeping me informed on his condition throughout his time there. My cat had also been treated by Dr. Obr during the last year and she was very good at explaining everything so that I understood what I could expect with the progression of his heart disease. Although other reviews have stated that people were not informed of the costs associated with treatments, I was always asked for my approval prior to any charges for treatment. I also want to say that Dr. Karau was very compassionate with my cats situation and when I made decision to let him go, I feel that he was in the best hands possible to help with that.

My pup has had some issues for a long time, too many to name.. it finally came to a head when he started losing his bladder.. I took him here and within 45 minutes they completed a blood and urine test and diagnosed him with diabetes.. I took the RX to the pharmacy had it filled and within 10 seconds of giving the RX dose.. he was a puppy again.. I am so thankful for the doctors and the staff here.. yes it is a bit more expensive.. its an ER clinic.. they fixed in one day what I have been trying to figure out for almost 2 years. Worth every cent. Thank you all!Editing to say.. the pup is 10-12 years old but after taking him here he was full of life and energy again

Recently we had to bring are Baby boy Sam out here. We were at are vet and due to moving they couldn’t take X-rays of are 14 year old weim. My vet called and said we would be bring him out.We were met at the door they took Sam in the back and me to A room to wait. In a short time the Doc was back and went over Sams X-rays. The news couldn’t have been worse but she broke it to me empathetically. We went over options and costs and she answered all my questions going back many rimes to find prices for things I asked about. Then gave me the room to figure out what my next step would be. After 20 min discussion with family it was decided to end his suffering. They got him ready and laid out a blanket and oxygen for his comfort and told us to spend all the time I need then call when I was ready. My daughter arrived and they showed her in. After another 20 or more min the Doc was called it she explained what would happened and assured us of his comfort. She gave him the first medicine talking soft and sweet to him catching and gingerly laying his falling head on the blanket. Then started the second med. and listened to his heart till he was gone. Once she said he’s passed she left the room for us again. As horrible experience as it was she somehow made it a bit more bearable with the way she handled herself. I got a call yesterday and my daughter brought are baby boy home. They had mad a casting of his paw print something I always wished I had done. His ashes were put in a nice felt bag them put in a nice stained wooden box with nice woodwork and his name on the front.Was it expensive yes but no more than other vets. There’s a lot of moving parts in a vets office and they go to a lot of school to do what they to. But imagine you have to deal with people mostly on one of the worse days of there lives. And you have to put to rest there family members probably more than they can ever count. And it doesn’t matter if they are having a bad day don’t feel good or there pets sick. Not one person I came across that day didn’t show empathy for my fur baby. To me that’s worth every cent I spent and then some. And let’s face it there running a business and to make ends meet and prosper you have to charge money.Thank you for being there for my family on one this horrible day and helping us to make the right decision for SAM.

Update! Almost a year later and Molly is still alive. Her enlarged heart that EIV did not diagnose could still end her life but thanks to the people at Anamosa Vet (wonderful caring people) she is a happy well loved dogThe 99 dollar charge to be seen. I get you have a fee. 99$ got me in, almost an hour wait, and while taking my dogs temp it popped out. The person says it ran high so tried to recheck. Said well thats close enough. If they need to well check it again later. Then listened with a stethoscope. For 99$ my dog was seen temp not taken properly by their own admittance and listened with the stethoscope. Again for 99$Dont need to go into the recommendation of a pointless xray (I said she didnt get into anything and you put a baseless fear in me) followed with an incorrect diagnosis...all which cost WAY more.Save your money and go to Anamosa Vet Hospital

I took my dog here because she was in distress due to labor. In order to get an update I had to call, and the receptionist were incredibly rude. It took over five hours to get my dog into a C-section, and because they waited so long the last puppy died. It was born breathing but had been in distress for too long. I would not recommend this place to anyone, please take your dog to any other emergency vet. They have poor communication skills poor people skills and obviously poor veterinary skills. We take our animals to a vet because we definitely aren’t experts and pay for their medical opinion. They did not once seem concerned about the lives of our puppies. They put other pets in front of our dog and determined that our dog was not important enough or critical enough, even though we had dying puppies. Again, PLEASE take you pet somewhere else.

We have had to use the emergency vet services offered twice in the past five years, once in 2014 and again last night. Both times, we were treated with the utmost care and respect, and were confident that our beloved pet was in good hands. Sadly, we had to make the impossibly difficult decision to say goodbye to our pet after a middle-of-the-night medical emergency. The staff went into great detail to outline all of our options and were so compassionate. I cannot thank them enough for being so kind, patient, and understanding. Although I hope we’re never in an emergency situation again, I would be 100% confident in choosing the Eastern Iowa Veterinary Specialty Center.

Vet was knowledgeable and very straightforward. Explained what was wrong in a way we could understand and helped us to reach a decision that was right for us. At no point did I feel pressure to spend extra money that was unnecessary. And their emergency fee was really quite reasonable. I highly recommend this vet.

My lab ate a puppy toy on a weekend. The Vets and staff here are awesome. We got our girl seen rather fast, the fees were fair. They took great care of her. We had to come back the next day for additional exrays. They had us in and out. Sasha is fine now.

I personally do not write reviews unless I feel necessary and negative ones I would like to do in person. I had brought my dog piper to the eastern Iowa veterinary clinic and have been sitting out in my car for three hours and thirty minutes in 85 degree weather they wanted to run additional testing I denied that three times. I have paid my bill and they wouldn’t release my dog. We have tried to be very kind I do not recommend this place I do recommend Anamosa and Alburnett. They are 1/3 of the price and not vengeful or snarky people. The service here was poor. Still waiting on discharge....

I’ve had a very positive experience at this hospital with my own dog quite a few years ago when she had a severe case of pneumonia and needed intensive care for several days. Due to this I’ve always recommended this hospital to many but warned of the cost. A couple nights ago.. my mother had taken my sisters Pomeranian in after an abdominal mass appeared/worsened. Both my sister and I were unaware of this visit until over 24 hours later. During the visit, she had a disagreement with the doctors (I don’t know the full extent of what happened). She came home with the dog as she could not afford the quote for surgery on what was diagnosed as a hernia. An appointment was made at pipestone for a later date to be evaluated again. Over the weekend her condition worsened. I contacted the hospital to inquire about the financial aspect of the surgery and options available. My sister and I did what we needed to due to secure payment and I contacted the hospital to inform them of this and that we could move forward. I was then told that service was not going to be offered based on the situation that occurred with my mother. While I completely understand setting professional boundaries, what I am incredibly disappointed in is the fact that there was another option. My sister (who was the primary owner of the dog but couldn’t have her at her dorm) and I were taking over care along with the financial aspect. I am 25 my sister almost 20. We are completely independent of my mother besides blood. This animal was in distress and there was an option to help her without dealing with the individual with whom issues arose. The staff opted to punish a suffering animal and two individuals for something that was out of their control. I will not be returning here. We did take the dog to ISU and she received quality care and the staff was much more compassionate - even over the phone.
