In early 2020, my child was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia by a specialist and testing showed he was over 2 grade levels behind in math. With weekly 1:1 teaching with Sylvan Castro Valley my son is now caught up academically in math and he has the confidence to go back to school and is ready for 4th grade math! During 2020-2021 pandemic, the Sylvan center was able to shift my son’s sessions to online learning with excellent, creative teachers who were able to successfully teach him online despite his learning disabilities. The Sylvan center was also super flexible on scheduling in person and online once the center could open safely. I also appreciate the curriculum system that checks and confirms through practice and teacher led assessments that my child’s understanding of concepts is solid and he has not forgotten prior lessons. Thank you for everything Sylan! You have been and continue to be my go to education partner for my child.

The staff at Sylvan make extra efforts to communicate the students progress through convenient text messages and parent check ins. My daughter is getting more confidence with her school work and enjoys her tutors. The in person instruction is invaluable!

My son Trevor was really having a hard time with distance learning and as time went on his academics really began to suffer. Math was the biggest problem and since it’s not the same as it was when I was a kid, I struggled with helping him be successful. I found Sylvan by chance as we frequent Rita’s Italian ice cream! I requested info online and Met with Liset and she helped us though the process of getting him an assessment to see where his main struggles were and get him signed up for tutoring classes. They gave me several options for payment plans that worked with my financial availabilities. Being a single mother it’s not easy but his education and level of confidence in himself is more important!

We have been with Sylvan for a year now and have been so impressed with the progress our daughter has made. The teachers continue to make lessons fun and challenging. We love receiving the progress reports and the communication with the center is incredible. They have been very flexible as of late with scheduling changes and continuing online tutoring. Such a wonderful place! We have been a Sylvan family for two years now. My daughter started taking tutoring classes for math when she was 7, in first grade. She loved it from day one. Her confidence soared! The teachers work with her to make sure she not only understands and masters the basic skills at her own pace, but they are always flexible and make sure she gets help with the work she’s doing in her classroom. I can’t be more happy with Castro Valley’s Sylvan. They have exceeded my hopes. They are all amazing teachers.When schools closed and we began to shelter in place, Sylvan immediately rolled out a one-on-one class for students to keep up with their online studies. Sylvan of Castro Valley has been very gracious and kind to allow my son (who has social anxiety) receive tutoring lessons despite the fact that he is 26. We very much appreciate that someone cares enough for him to do well and pass his Math class. Today, he is doing very well and has been able to follow his class with so much less difficulty. His tutor is really patient and kind and he is learning a lot from her. His attitude has also changed into gaining a positive outlook and results with his Math class, and just life in general. My son started with Sylvan last School year with reading. They brought him up to grade level pretty quickly. We had a pretty rough year with his teacher last school year and the staff at Sylvan went out of there way for my son to know how proud they were of his achievements, and I am really thankful to the tutors and director(s) for that. This place is amazing! All 3 of my kids (5th grader and 1st graders) have gone here and loved it. I can see the increase in their confidence within the 1st week. The staff are like family. If ever I find any of my kids needing extra help, I know I can take them here and get great results.

Hi all! My name is Veronica and I am a teacher in both the Reading and Writing programs at Sylvan. I have been working here at Sylvan since November of 2017 and it has been such a joy to work with all of the directors, teachers, and students. The motivation behind Sylvan is purely getting students at or above grade-level and building that confidence to get there. I have worked in elementary schools and I can confirm that the material that is taught here at Sylvan is exactly what is being taught in classrooms. What I enjoy most about Sylvan is that the directors and teachers genuinely care about the education and, overall, wellbeing of students, because its not just about academics all the time; its making sure that the student feels safe, secure, confident, and motivated in order to get them to where they need to be and THAT is what Sylvan offers to every student.

So glad we found this place. Our son was really struggling with math. We went to 2 different tutoring centers but right away knew it wasnt for us. The first day when he took his assessment test the staff made my son feel at ease and that is so important to me. I first became a part-time math and reading tutor three years ago at this center because I was looking for a part time tutoring job while in school nearby. I honestly didn’t expect to work there for more than a year but it’s been three years and I find myself wanting to come back during any opportunity I get. I’ve currently moved on to grad school yet I still went back during my break because I find working with the staff and students rewarding. Every tutor that I work with has an inner passion for teaching. But the directors of the center are the real MVPs. They each have a genuine interest to make sure our students grow intellectually and academically. They constantly check in with tutors around the clock to make sure that we have everything we need to keep our students engaged. They also try to make sure that the tutors they hire are the cream of the crop. This may seem biased since I work there but believe me, there is no way I would constantly be returning while trying to move forward in my medical career if I didn’t believe in the core values of this center. I just hope it’s still around by the time I have my own children so I can enroll them! I’ve personally worked with students who were four grade levels behind move to being two grade levels above. As a teacher who has had experience with four other tutoring organizations/ curriculums, I can easily say that Sylvan’s curriculum actually works and is the best I’ve seen. This is why I believe in everything that Sylvan stands for.... because it works.

I’ve been bringing my 2nd and 5th grade girls for the past 2 months and have already seen such great progress! My second grader wasn’t so much behind but more so needed a confidence boost and it has definitely done that for her! However my fifth grader was really struggling with math and Sylvan was able to identify the missing gaps from prior grades that were really foundational concepts that have been causing her problems ever since. So now she’s focusing in on those missing areas and it’s just doing absolute wonders for her. No more tears over math homework!

My (2) daughters have been working at Sylvan with the qualified instructors and they both have shown academic improvement as well as more confidence in completing their homework.

We had a similar experience as the last reviewer, Sonia Garcia. Last August after starting first grade our son was still not able to read (due to struggling with sight words). We looked around for tutoring center and finally decided to enroll him with Sylvan. After 3-4 months of hard work, he was caught up to grade-level and was able to read properly (even his 1st grade teacher was surprised of his improvement at the time). See attached picture for before and after testing scores. He is now in 2nd grade and also doing Sylvans writing program to help improve his writing and comprehension skills. Although our son has caught up to grade-level reading, we wanted him to continue with Sylvan to supplement his regular studies in school. Overall we are very pleased with everything Sylvan has done for our son and would highly recommend them.
