Their checkout process is one of the worst Ive ever seen. Their ten items or less line has been open less than half of the times Ive been there. Today was the last straw. The first two lines, the only ones open, each had two customers in line with at least twenty items. After five minutes the first person in each line had not been checked out yet. One of your employees went to the ten items or less line to check out a friend or employee. I went that line but he told me he was closed and refused to check me out despite having just rung up another person. The open lines still had not moved so I walked out. The Albertsons nearby has six self checkout lines and I have rarely had to wait for one to be open. I wont waste my time with your store again even though it is a bit closer to my house.

I cant speak to all of the stores, but as far as mine goes I really like it. Staff is good, selection is good, prices are good.

This was my first time in the store and actually the first time Ive heard of this store given Im from Pacific Northwest and obviously we dont have these up there. It reminds me of a miniature Costco and has quite a few things and stuff. Seems to be reasonable or somewhat reasonably priced for the expensive California area and I will definitely go back and do some more shopping and look around. Check out was kind of a pain but with covid-19 limited cashiers I can totally understand

Good food, good selection. Best to bring your own bags. But they were very accommodating for us out-of-towners by providing paper sacks for us.

The new check out Q system is an excellent way to go. Big improvement over last year and handles social distancing very nice. Well done Smart and Final!

I don’t know how you can call this a grocery store when the selection is so very limited. It’s more like a glorified convenience store.

I went to Smart and Final to look for Cup4Cup gluten free flour. I thought it was a hopeless trip, but the nearby health food site didnt have that brand and my friend offered to make me a loaf of gluten free bread. So the brand mattered.S & F had it. Color me shocked. And they had an organic veg section. It wad my first time in there. I was bummed when Vons left, so I never went in.It was quite nice in there. Ill have to go back.

Cheap prices, good bulk foods, and decent produce. But hit or miss in other departments and an often a slow, ponderous check-out process - always seemingly with one too few lanes open and no self-checkout. Good overall if you need large quantities of things, but not a place you can reliably pop in and out of when grabbing a few things on the go.

I miss the normal Vons store that used to be here. Buying in bulk is nice, but the store isnt as nice and clean as it used to be. And sometimes you dont need a 20 pack of candy bars. The deals are decent, but nothing comes in a small package here.

Welcome to our Beautiful Town of Carpinteria, Smart & Final. Thank you for your great selection of produce and other staples your store offers at great everyday low prices. Not the Vons that I still love and miss, but this SF has the cheapest prices for groceries in all of Carpinteria. If it werent for the prices, I would stick to Albertsons; SF has super long and slow lines. They really need to hire people to bag as well. Im lucky if I get a cashier that bags my groceries; most cashiers just stare and wait for you to do it. While some cashiers are kind, others dont even say hi or look at you until they tell you the total. Overall, SF is great if you need something fast, but it doesnt have a lot of variety and specialty health food options (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, etc.) are limited.

Its unfortunate but for some reason this store has become unorganized. Shelves are not stocked. Stacks of boxes in isles, difficult walking down isles. People I recommend to go to S&F (Carpinteria)are now going to Ventura. What has happened??

All I could think of when going through this store is poor Carpinteria!... What happened to it? This location should showcase a higher end market like Vons when it used to be there. The store was dirty and presentation sad looking. The checker asked me on the way out of my water bottle was really my own... as if Id steal a bottle of water while paying for the rest of my groceries! 🙄 We used to frequent this grocery store while staying here in Carp, but not anymore. 2 stars because it had food and was open. Bring back the better grocery shopping experience to Carpinteria!

The smart and final here is actually a bit bad. The actual store is set up like you would expect from a bulk store but the bad part is that the staff is like what you would expect form a bulk store. It runs at about the equivalent of a Skelton crew. The prices are a bit much and usually you have to wait forever in line

Not good, but not the worst. Its not the place I would ever want to go shopping at for extended periods of time. If your in carpenteria you only have two options, to go to smart and final extra or go to albertsons. The albertsons is pretty bad, everything is over priced and theres no cheap alternatives. Then of course you have the smart and final but they are missing quite a few common items and their store is horribly organized. I couldnt even find eggs. If you want a quick grocery pickup I recomend one of the liquor stores
