I ordered the material for my seats and had these guys restore my door panels. The vinyl showed up relatively quick but I will admit that it took a year to get my door panels back.So with a year wait why 5 stars? First off I knew it was going to be a long time going in so I suppose I was better prepared than some of the reviewers here. Second, every local person I talked to said they couldnt do the aluminum emblazing on the door panels and I wanted to keep it.As for the vinyl Dad said it look like it did when he bought the car (original owner) so the interior of my car looks completely original. I couldnt be happier.I ordered a boot cover later on and again it looks just like the original.I do highly recommend these guys. That said dont be in a hurry, I assume because they have so many orders and only so many employees.If you want (what I consider) the best you need a little patience. I feel like it was well worth the wait (hence 5 stars)

They have the correct material, even if its not a popular pattern. Sure the prices are a bit steep but go find the rare patterns elsewhere and figure the cost of controlled storage and investment in inventory tracking.Well done SMS.Dale

Its hard to beat original materials and thats exactly what the team at SMS provides! I have done several classic older vehicles throughout the years and SMS has came through for me at every one! My recent obsession, a 64 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible 426-S needed the correct top boot with the hidden snaps as is correct for this model. SMS stitched it up in NOS materials no less with the 64 date code stamped right there in the material! And it is Bermuda Turquoise Metallic no less! To say I was thrilled with the look and superb fit would be an understatement! The interior is ALL SMS completed by the previous owner. When you want/need original interior theres only three letters to remember......S M S !

After recently purchasing a 1965 Cadillac, I started looking at what needed to be done to make it a reliable, regular, and comfortable driver. l knew that I would need new front seat upholstery and was keen to keep the interior as original as possible. I did some research and came across SMS Auto Fabric online and they had a great range available. They had the original trim fabric for my car listed on their website so I enquired online to find out how much I would need and to check availability. The SMS team responded quickly and confirmed the material I needed was in stock. I ordered the material needed and the SMS team were absolutely terrific. My order was processed quickly and a tracking number was provided - I am in Australia so international freight was required. Given Covid and the distance, the time to receive the package was as expected which was great. I am extremely happy with the fabric and it is great to be able to still get trim for my 56 year old classic. I couldn’t be happier with the service and support provided by SMS Auto Fabrics. I thought it important to recognise the great team at SMS Auto Fabrics as too often in today’s online world we only hear about negative experiences and often it is simply because people don’t understand what they are buying - not everything is “off the shelf” so you need to be realistic if you want that unusual piece - not to mention a bespoke 56 year old trim part.From start to finish the experience was wonderful, the communication was excellent and provided me with confidence throughout the process - I have no hesitation recommending SMS Auto Fabrics. It is a great business offering a specialised service to Classic vehicle enthusiasts.

Im a repeat customer and once again am totally happy with the quality of workmanship that SMS has provided in making my interior components. Its amazing how well they can duplicate original interiors. They even make their own vinyl material, if original material isnt available. One needs to remember to be patient and to order in advance of expected delivery date. Its certainly worth the wait!! Joe

Around 20 years ago, I ordered a sample with my trim code to match the cloth on my 65 Fleetwood. It was perfect, and I kept it on the mantle piece in our apartment for 15 years, finally ordering the cloth around 5 years ago. I finally had the front seat redone this past winter, and it is perfect. Without SMS, it would have been mediocre. The carpet I ordered was a little bluer than grey, but it actually complements the doors and dash, so I was satisfied. I would recommend SMS to any serious collector or restorer.

My frustration with SMS Auto Fabrics began in May 2020 as my order that I paid for has not come to light. For me as a South African with our very weak exchange rate adds to the woes of being out of pocket for 17 months and have nothing to show for it. Initially I was communicating with Doug and then Kim took over. I started the process timeously so that the leather upholstery of my 1958 Cadillac Convertible could be completed for my Sons wedding that was in July this year. Despite Kim assuring me that she would sort it out. The worst is that I do not get replies to my emails and am starting to wonder if I will ever receive my goods. Not sure if I am being taken advantage of because they know that I cannot walk in and demand my goods? Interestingly noted that I could not post unless I give them 1 star which they definitely do not deserve.

Worst company ever! You may find that rare material you are looking for but you are better off weaving it yourself. In the time it takes to buy the equipment, learn to weave, perfect the skill, build your seats, sell your car, die and be reincarnated as a bug, die in the grill of the car you once owned. Your order may arrive....in two weeks.

Placed an order for $270 for some upholstery fabric + shipping. After more than a year of waiting got it from another store and now for more than a year been trying to get refunded and they always feed me the same Ill remind Doug. I live in Europe and cant get in person. Really dishonest people and dont recommend for anyone to do business with. Will try to get IRS involved so that at least theyd stop scamming people.

Ordered a C10 bench seat cover (custom deluxe, large houndstooth pattern) and what I got was awesome! Great product, reasonably priced, and very impressed, being that most folks arent interested in the base model interiors. It took a while to get it, but theres an old saying that, if you want something quick and cheap, it wont be good; if you want something good and quick, it wont be cheap; but if you want something good and cheap (or reasonably priced), it probably wont be quick... Ill echo the sentiment of a previous review... These are good people working hard to provide a high quality product... Plan ahead... Ask plenty of questions... If their schedule dont work for you, go somewhere else, but dont blow em up on punctuality

I paid in full for my order about a year ago, a lot of money. It was suppose to take 6 weeks. They keep changing the deadline but will not really answer any questions or let me talk to a manager, I am really dissapointed I went with this company they are dishonest and have not provided the product I paid for, my car has been stuck mid build for way to long and I am not getting to enjoy it because of this company.

People, If you cannot appreciate that SMS is custom weaving your material for your car you can go to your average couch recovering service and get garbage. I am very pleased that SMS made my Green metallic Paisley material for my 57 Eldo Seville. Cmon, they made it just for me, just the amount I requested. Seriously, you cannot beat that and it took awhile but I was still very grateful. Stop sending whiny complaints about a company that is doing you, and the rest of us, a huge favor. Quiet down and wait your turn for your material(s) to be custom made! Thanks SMS for beautiful material that makes the car!

I paid for 3 yards of black and white plaid material. I asked what the holdup was about 2 months into a year long nightmare. Doug asked me if he could send me some pieces of the material because he didn’t actually have what he said he had. I told him that would not work for my project and he convinced me that he would weave new material in 6 weeks. 10 weeks later I ask where the product was and they say it’s ready to mail. This goes on till I file with the BBB and Doug responds that he will have my material to me by the end of July. He sends me the scraps that I rejected and they are covered in white paint, brown stains, and in the form of wrinkled unusable lengths. I send it back and ask for my money back, and here I am with no material and no money returned to me. Don’t let this be you!

Ive read reviews everywhere about SMS and was VERY hesitant to do business with them. Im in South Florida and restoring a 1951 Mercury coupe as original and stock as possible. About 3 years ago I contacted the few auto interior fabric businesses that are open. SMS was the ONLY one with the EXACT material I needed. When I contacted them in January 2017, they told me they still had the material, but the price had gone up from $89 to $99/yard. Being hesitant and skeptical, I shopped around again. I found something close to original from a 90s Cavalier, but not EXACT as original. It was almost the same price as SMS, so I decided to take a chance with SMS. I only wanted to order the part of the seats with the patterned material - not the solid color portions, since I think I can get the plain material anywhere.The lady who answered was cordial, but pretty much strictly business - not much small talk. I think her name is Kelly. I didnt know how many yards I would need so she suggested 8 yards as typical. I added 2 yards for error (10 yards total) which Kelly mentioned some people do to be safe. I provided my credit card info. During my brief conversation, I asked if the material was NOS (66 years old, but new) or if SMS actually manufactured the material. She said they manufactured it NEW, and it would be perfect with no age spots, stains, tears, bugs, old smell or brittleness.About 3 weeks to a month later the new material arrived. I have never dealt with interior fabrics, but I have to admit its BEAUTIFUL. It is EXACTLY as original. The fabric is thick and seems durable. My perception is that its high quality. The surface is even ribbed - when you run your fingers on it, you can feel the grooves - just like original. Im very impressed and pleasantly surprised. It made my confidence go up with SMS. I will be ordering the rest of the interior soon, and will keep this review updated. I wanted to share my positive experience.PS. I inquired about door panels. They said they needed my originals as a blue print, and that they were 12-15 months backed up. The problem is that my door panels are completely deteriorated. I guess an interior specialist will have to make them.

Ordered a replacement vinyl top in mid February 21. Was told 6-8 weeks. I am patient, and at the end of the 8th week, I inquired on order status via email. Received reply that said they were manufacturing a new roll of material, and would be the end of May (another six weeks...at least). I asked to cancel for a refund... lets see how this plays out.I should have read the reviews before I ordered.

I asked for a sample to be sent to me for my 1964 Buick. They sent me a sample but it was not quite right. Close but not exact. I ended up phoning and talking to a gal and she referred to another gentleman who said I think I know the fabric youre looking for and I will send you a sample. A week later I received the sample and it was perfect. I placed my order, got my material soon after and I couldnt be more thrilled. Totally satisfied.

Purshased some fabric from SMS and they sent me the wrong stuff. I called them to sort it out and they said they had mixed up the order and would send me the correct stuff. Im now at about 7 month of waiting and hearing excuse after excuse. Im sure they are a legitimate business but I have been scammed by them.

Have just purchased an impossible to find upholstery.After sending a couple of photos I received a sample. It matched my seat and I could place my order.I had to wait two weeks until my order could be shipped due to high work load.Nevertheless my upholstery arrived at a decent speed and matched my seat material 100%Full satisfaction from my side.

We ordered $1400 worth of upholstery and paid in full. We were quoted six months to receive the order. Six months turned into eight months. Eight months turned into twelve months. No communication from the shop. Finally gave up and asked for a refund. Overall a really bad experience and a huge waste of my time. Hopefully we get our money back and our parts. I would not recommend this shop to anyone!

I placed my order for Broadcloth material on 5/15/2020. It is 12-31-2020 and I still dont have it. Every time I inquire about my order, Kim tells me its going to be another two weeks. I have lost count how many times Ive read that same line. Excuse after excuse. I dont understand why SMS takes a customers money without having the material in stock. The auto restoration community needs to have another option. Competition is what SMS needs. Absolutely frustrated with SMS.

We ordered $ 770.00 worth of a door panels custom and pay in full. i was quoted six months to receive the order , pay in full on 6/28/2019 and still waiting , no communication from the shop , finally gave up and asked for a refund today is 3/16/2021 , finally i got my door panels after almost 2 years they did a very good job , SMS Auto Fabric needs better communication with customers and also tell them how long its gonna take , thank you for the good work ..

Hands down the worst company I have dealt with while running my own business for the past 13 years. Unless the fabric you need is in stock I highly suggest you avoid SMS and take your business elsewhere. I placed an order for custom fabric and was given a 90 lead time. I based my own project around that schedule. Communication was great with SMS until payment was made and then it stopped. I called in every 3 weeks to check in and was told my fabric was on schedule each time. A week before the 90 days was up I was finally told they had not even started making the fabric. Fast forward 6 more months of regular phone call attempts from me (the owner only once actually returned a phone call during this time) before the fabric was finished. That’s right, a 9 month turnaround. My company looked bad to my own customers as they also waited an additional 6 months over what I had promised. I pride myself on communication and punctuality and this was the first and only time in 13 years of running my own business that I was late on a delivery. The fabric was great which is the one star in this review. It’s a huge bummer they flat out lied about my order status during the first three months. My recommendation is to take your business to more honorable and honest people.

Worst company I have ever dealt with.They take your money and do not deliver as promised.This type of company is destroying the fun that goes with building and restoring an old car, what is suppose to be a enjoyable fun hobby turns in to a nightmare.I am not getting a response from them, I paid the invoice in full 11/13/2019 and was told that the pressings should be shipped before Christmas with the rest of the order to be shipped in a few months.Stay away from this company unless you have lots of time and money and are prepared to wait a very long time.

OK, everybody, Im going to provide you as accurate a review of my experience with this company & their craftsmanship. The box just arrived, so I unpacked it and decided to provide a photo for your review.In early-Sept., 2019 I ordered a bench seat upholstery for my shortbed 65 Chevy Custome Cab pickup. I knew about the inconsistency in turn-around time & ultimate delivery, but this company was the only source that had the factory-correct fabric AND design. Car people here in Arizona also recommended them and warned to allow plenty of time, but that I wouldnt be disappointed.All I can say is, Holy COW!! While it did take 5 months from ordering to delivery, I must compliment Kim for always, always responding to my 2 or 3 update emails. Today, after unpacking the pre-stitched material, I was so impressed at how perfect the finished product appeared.Yes, the wait may be longer than you would desire and, yes, they do take 100% payment upfront. But its a business and they need to acquire the materials. Ultimately, I simply cannot say enough positive things about their quality (thick, dense, and exact) and their willingness to respond when you act civil and patient.I highly recommend using this company, and only suggest that you PLAN AHEAD if your timeline for an interior is definitive.

I requested samples and they arrived maybe a month or so,ordered material and it took a couple of months to arrive to Melbourne Australia. They always answered emails within 24hours and found them easy to deal with. Yes I would definitely use and recommend them.

I can not say enough good about this organization. I called them in February because I found the exact replacement materials for my 1960 Ford Fairlane seats. They promptly sent me samples and a quotation, as well as directions should I choose to proceed. I was reluctant to send my removed seat covers anywhere, but had a good feeling about the people at SMS that I had spoken to (Doug and Kim), and was comfortable with the price and the promise to get my order before April. Well, I got my seat covers on April 1, and they WERE PERFECT ! Beyond my expectations kind of perfect. THANK YOU so much Doug and Kim!

I ordered 4 yds of interior trim for my 1984 Chevy van. I got the colour Rong , it faded so much it look green, Kim was right ,it was blue. A bit more correspondence to tell me why they sent the blue would be better. I did what they said to do ,check the colour of the trim where they fold it and stitch it. It was blue. Being an owner of a upholstery shop, I’m always looking for products and good working relations with suppliers. This was my first and last buying experience with SMS. Being that they have more exclusive material such as wool, I had to place an order when upholstering a 1937 Packard. I placed my order August 8th, I didn’t receive my material until August 20th. I was understanding of the time because of covid but I only received half my order and it was the wrong color. It was returned and I was told it would take just over two weeks to revive my correct color. After one month later I received the other half of my order and then another month went by and I finally received the correct wool color. It took over three months and up to fifty emails between them trying to get my order. Customer service will not answer or return phone calls, they will only email you back with brief answers. I’m young in my upholstery career with being over a year booked out. Sms will be missing out on what could have been a very profitable relationship.

Beware!1Ordered seat covers about six months ago, they said would be done in two months, when you can get someone to talk to, which is very difficult, as they now only take E-Mails concerning delivery, keep telling me another four weeks, not answering the phone or E-Mails, Time to request my Credit card company to request a refund, as it looks like never going to start my covers, Would never ever recommend this company to make anything automotive or any other product. Cannot tell about quality as not seen any product, but if their process is an indication of quality, it also will be not professional. I contacted SMS to inquire about some material. I sent them an e-mail letting them know what I was looking for; I got a response: We have what you need. We’ll call you. from Doug on April 18th. I expected they would call, as they might be interested in making a sale, but after a few days went by with no call, I decided to call them. My first two calls to them, no one answered, so I left a VM and followed up with another e-mail. Four days later, I got a call from a lady at SMS. I told her I was busy and asked if she would be able to call back in 5 minutes; she sounded very annoyed and said Yeah, Ill try... She never called back, so I called again. When we connected, I explained to her what I was looking for and said that Doug told me We have what you need, but she said she didnt know which samples he was talking about, so I asked her if I could talk to Doug, to which she responded: Oh, Doug doesnt do the phones. This perplexed me a bit, since they stood to gain a sale if they could just give me what I needed. I asked if she would have Doug send some photos of the materials that he thought would work; she responded: Oh, we cant send pictures. We just send samples through the mail. I explained to her that this was a relatively short timeline project and I didnt have time to wait for samples to come across the country from Oregon to New Jersey. Noting that its 2017 and nearly everyone has a phone with an HD camera on it, I suggested that it would be fine if she would take some photos with her camera phone and send them, so I could at least see the pattern and different color combinations; she said she couldnt because they need to make sure that the customer sees and agrees to the fabric in person. I told her this really wasnt helpful and I could probably eliminate many of them by just seeing a picture. Apparently she was unmoved... Four days after my first contact, I finally got an e-mail from Doug and it included an image of 10 fabric samples sent from a flatbed scanner. As expected, the photo quality was excellent, showing a realistic depiction of the colors, patterns, and even texture of the samples in question. I was able to immediately pick out the sample I wanted just from the photos. At this point, I took a few days to respond because I was so displeased with their attitude, as if I was the one bothering them, that I looked around for other suppliers. I found a few, but they didnt have what I needed. One guy in LA even referred me to SMS, noting that he thinks they have copyrights for a lot of these fabric patterns or something? Makes sense, considering their short attitude and reluctance to provide me with helpful information - when you have a govt-enforced monopoly to be the only one who can supply a certain product, you can be a jerk to your customers... go figure.. I finally decided to place an order with SMS because I didnt have other options. After I paid them nearly $400 for 4 yards of fabric, I asked her when it would ship; she said: Well, we should get it in the mail in about a week. Apparently 1) walking to the rack where the fabric is 2) measuring the length with a tape measure and cutting accordingly, and 3) putting it in a box takes them about a week... I basically had to sweet talk her into getting it in the mail even by that same week. Why did I feel like I was the one who had to offer great service after I just paid them $400?! The samples arrived and I was happy with the fabric, but as difficult as they were to work with, I will definitely look for another supplier next time.

Just dont. Dont do it. They will insist on all money up front (NO, this is not standard practice because its a custom product). They will commit to a seemingly reasonable (6-8 week timeframe for me--its been a year and the $2,500 order... Months and months of promised delivery dates, excuses, but then again, what do you expect? 2/3 local upholstery shops I quoted specifically mentioned to me that they will not use SMS products under any condition. Think about it... Thats coming from a commercial account. How hard do you think a person would work to deliver a product for which youve already paid? BTW, this is my second order and the first one was only late 6 months so I ordered well in advance. The outcome? Credit card dispute, but thats only because seven days ago in response to the 22nd(!) email in a long thread of email lies, and mostly just not responding at all, I can do that, sorry.Given the presumably older demographic of their customers, how many people have died and their families still never received the order? My estate would be out the money of course. They probably forgot they even have an order for me. Or desperately fill the most upset customers orders first and so what they think... After all, you did pay 100% up front :). No promises from them even now that my order will be here next week because they tried that one in July...2019!

Despite the fact an order was placed and PAID for in June 2019 and despite numerous emails and phone calls this company has still failed to send the product.We were informed the ordered product would take 5 weeks to arrive in Australia!So very disappointed ☹️ with this company’s lack of customer service. Not having the ordered product is stopping us from completing a job.Stay away from them at all costs 🤬

Absolute worst business we ever dealt with. These are theives. Stole our money. Never received merchandise. We had to start process of a charge back with Visa. And made a police report for credit abuse with our local agency and agency where these criminals have their business. Beware of of doing business they will steal your money.Update : I filed a dispute charge back with Visa. It took 3 months but Visa ruled in our favor and took back the $552.00 and refunded us the money SMS stole from us.That should tell everyone something about doing business with these dishonest thieves.

I had good service years ago and here is the last good service I had with them when I did the 46 Chevy for over 100 dollars a yd material about 2016. material matched very close.Still waiting for a response on wrong headliner for 64 mercury Monterey received in January 2019. New Message: Today is Sept.18, 2019, and I received a call from the customer stating that he received another headliner today. I had promised to make a pattern off the old headliner and I had just bought a bunch of poster board to make it when I found out that another had been received. Wow what fast service. I had a great experience back in 1989, SMS had the exact color and grain for my 1971 Pontiac GP. Thou I never had my seats done I kept the vinyl all these years , now Im having them professionally done and ordered extra vinyl. SMS sent me samples quickly and they were exactly what I got years ago , ordering was easy and I got my vinyl about a week later , color and grain was perfect. Its my pleasure to write a strong positive review for SMS Auto Fabrics. I recently had an experience with SMS that was not perfect, BUT I did see that they are trying hard to improve and given their long history of helping restorers small (like me) and large, they need some positive reinforcement in my opinion.My main contacts were Leslie and Kim. Leslie was my first contact to take my initial order. I asked for an order confirmation as well as a shipping confirmation and I received both. My order was for a small piece of NOS material for my 1971 Torino. When I saw the order confirmation, I noticed it did not match the fabric I needed. Had I not noticed this, I would have received the incorrect material. Thats why we need order confirmations to make sure the initial order was correct. So buyers, make sure you get an order confirmation and make sure its correct.I was told delivery would be around 2 weeks. I pushed back on this and it was improved to one week. When following up on a current order, you are directed to voice mail and then directed to send your inquiry to an email address. I hope they change this with a live person in the future. No-one wants to hang up and send an email when following up on a current order. My way to get around this was to hit 1 and try to speak to a live person.I was always polite and professional when dealing with folks at SMS. Many of the reviews Ive read are filled with anger and frustration. Im empathetic with the buyers, but stay on the high road and youll have better results.After the order was shipped, I did receive tracking information from UPS which was very helpful. I applaud SMS for doing this.Continuous improvement is necessary in all business. My experience was not perfect, but did reflect very strong efforts to improve service. A true asset to the automotive industry, cant get any better than that. There is no better way to get one off fabric pettens from decades ago. Be patient it WILL get to you. I ordered my seat covers for my 1961 Pontiac July 7, 2017. Its been one year, I paid for them when I ordered them. $1200.00. Today, 1 year later, and about 50 emails, since you cannot call them, NOTHING! A couple of months ago one person said they were next in line, ha ha ha! Today the email said not yet, sorry incomprehensible! DONT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! I AM SO ANGRY!Update.....13 months and 1 day from my order date I finally received my covers....look good. I have been waiting for almost 2 years to get my panels and upholstry from sms auto. (I got the panels 14 months later) I paid nearly 2 grand for the product. Everytime I email them, the lady always says....next week...next week or Ill talk to the guys in the back. I think its hilarious that these guys will constantly post pictures of new upholstry on facebook and Im still waiting on mine. The only reason why I gave them a star is because I had to give them something or I couldnt write the review. As of now...Im still waiting on my upholstry. At this point I just want my money back.

Dont use them, I dont care if they tell you they have your fabric in stock, they are horrible. They refer all questions about your order to email, they wont answer the phone about your order, only will answer to take new orders. This vendor is a scam.

Soooo, I too had read the reviews of SMS Auto Fabrics, and concluded as I think most people with working brain cells, people can be really stupid. I went to their website and was dismayed that my collector vehicle was NOT listed as having fabric available. I did however do as instructed and CALLED the nice people at SMS and within 4 days had in my hand a sample and pricing on the exact fabric for my ride. I called them back on a Monday and the fabric was in my hands on the following Thursday. When you take the time to be EXACT and communicate with ANY vendor, you will 99% of the time get the item(s) you want, as you want them and in a timely manner.Bottom Line: SMS Auto Fabrics had WHAT I needed, GAVE me what I wanted and ordered, and did it ASAP. That is good business, THANK YOU!

I placed an order with these guys for some leather and a vinyl top on 5/18/2014, and then changed my order to a lesser amount of leather the very next day. SMS however sent the lesser amount of leather and still charged me for the original amount of leather (even sent me an invoice with the new amount at the old price). This did arrive in a normal amount of time. After COUNTLESS phone calls and emails they finally refunded my money about a month later in weekly payments ranging from $250 to $400. nobody answers the phone there except for the saleswoman, who I felt terrible about having to call and annoy everyday about returning my money.And guess what? My nightmare with SMS is still not over, I received the vinyl top I ordered ordered with a tear in one of the seems with what is seemingly very, very old stitching that had deteriorated to the point that it was coming apart where they folded the top (tops are supposed to be rolled, not folded). This top appears to have been made several years ago, or with extremely old thread and is unusable. The low quality material used to make the top is also unrepairable. I have sent the top back to SMS in hope of getting a full refund (I have already had another top made at B-DCO with a much better similar looking material that actually has a backing to it, and was done in less than a day). It does not look like my refund is going to happen. I cant afford to wait another 8 and a half weeks while SMS fixes what they screwed up, i am already behind schedule a few weeks on this car as it is, mostly because of SMS.

Ordered on 10/19. (2) Yds @ $99/yd = $228/shipped. Took (8) calendar days to be shipped, I was told it would ship next business day. Won’t be here til’ 11/02. The prices are robbery, the service or lack there of is-treachery!. The fabric is trash (quality). NEVER AGAIN. Wish I had read the countless reviews like this one first - hopefully your smarter!! BAD EXPERIENCE WITH SMS FABRICS. I ordered 3 yards of auto upholstery fabric after they sent a sample that basically matched the original upholstery fabric. When I ordered the fabric, I inquired whether the fabric was in stock and was assured that it was. My credit card was charged immediately for over $300. Two months later, I had not received the fabric and tried to call to inquire about the status. Impossible to get through to anyone except the order taker. I sent an email and received a response from Doug, that there was a delay and it would be shipped by the end of the week. Two weeks later, still had not received the fabric and sent another email. Received a reply that the order would be shipped the following day. Received three yards of the wrong fabric with a large run defect through the entire length of the fabric. My upholstery shop took a look at the fabric and indicated that it wasnt usable due to the defect and it was obvious to whoever shipped it out. He indicated that businesses like SMS, who engages in fraud, pick up reject material for pennies on the dollar because of the defects. He also indicated that a straight up company would inspect the fabric, inform the customer of the defect, and work with the customer to find a workaround with extra yardage, etc. SMS will not do this. They will simply ship the defective goods, keep your money, and laugh all the way to the bank. This is the most dishonest, criminal organization I have ever dealt with. I wasted over $300 and three months of my time dealing with this crook. I would advise that unless you can actually inspect and pick up the goods in person, you should avoid SMS Auto Fabrics like the plague. Life is just too short to deal with thugs like SMS fabrics... Be kind to yourself, find another supplier

I had several emails to and fro with Doug at SMS regarding the upolstery for my 1960 Electra 225.Doug posted me the samples that I required all the way to New Zealand very smartly.This along with Dougs very quick responses to my emails really impressed me.I wanted to pay the full amount directly into SMS account.But when I was processing the payment into SMS account I needed to answer the last question,being what is the physical address of SMS.I googled the address as you do and to my horror, I saw the 2.9 star rating on SMS.The reviews on SMS were saturated with negative comments.I emailed Doug and told him I was having second thoughts about proceeding with my order due to the copious amount of unsatisfied customers they had.Actually it was hard to find any  good reports, so I had serious doubts about sending my hard earned cash to SMS.Yet in spite of these doubts and the alarm bells ringing in my head along with my wife, warning me not to proceed with the deal.I paid for my order anyway, as I reasoned that these guys cant be all that bad as they are still actually operating and have been in business for many years.Anyway my fears came to nothing as Doug and Kim did a very good job of getting my new upolstery dispatched.I sincerely do wish SMS all the best for the future, this is why I went to the trouble to write this 5 star review.Running our family business myself in New Zealand , we have learned to defineately not under estimate the importance of the voices on the Internet.We started out in business back in 1980, we now have 17 full time staff.We sell a lot of obsolete old school wheel rims amongst many other things.Yet businesses that succeed today can not afford to rely on yesterdays victories.Also having the monopoly on a product will not cut it in todays world either.Offering consistant good service is pramount more than ever before, as literally thousands of prospective customers can find out with a click of the mouse if you happen to drop the ball or not.If they doubt the suppliers ability to satisfy their requirements they wont spend.The internet age is here to stay and over a period of time, these unhappy voices can end up destroying businesses such as SMS.Doug, Kim and the crew did a great job of looking after me.Keep pressing forward guys.Continue to aim at pleasing ALL your customers.If you do happen to drop the ball do your best to fix it quickly or even offer the R word, a refund.My Son will be getting my Buick when im gone.How cool would it be for him to deal with SMS in 30 years time, when the Buicks uplostery needs redoing again.

Ive ordered two pieces from SMS Auto Fabrics, both for a 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood. The first was a vinyl top, and the second was a headliner. The headliner required I send the original mounting ribs in, which has me slightly concerned at first as they are almost impossible to replace if anything happens to them. However, I have no complaints about either part. For both the top and the headliner, the material is an exact match of the original, the parts fit well, and the workmanship (the french seam on the vinyl top, and the stitching on the headliner) is top notch. I would do business with them again in a heartbeat.The time it takes for them to perform work is not fast. This is expected, considering the parts were made to order. The shop was up front with me about the expected turnaround time, and I received both parts within the timeframe originally provided.

I brought my interior parts to them, (Im local) I asked for a simple quote and they stated a ok price of $1800. They ONLY do 100% restoration, not a simple interior re-do. They stated it would be maybe 6 months before they could start it. I reluctantly said ok. (I had at another shop and they took 3 years to not do a damn thing, so I am getting highly frustrated at upholstery shops) So, after placing a $500 deposit to start the work, I just figured I would wait. Well, I asked them if they could re-do the seat springs (some were broken) and now my quote was way over $2500+. At this time, i felt that I didnt have that kind of funds and the quality they would have done would be way overboard for this car. I decided since I didnt have the funds to do this, I called them up and told them I am canceling the order. Since they didnt do anything except box my stuff up, I simply asked for a refund of the $500 deposit. After leaving, the guy I emailed wrote me a small letter saying You cost me and my employees valuable time with you and your lack of business Thats it. Plain and to the simple explanation. He was frustrated and angry I backed out. Well, its now July 29th, 6+ weeks from leaving them and I still have had no refund of my deposit. I called them, the lines always busy. I had to call my bank to request a refund of the deposit since they dont know how to run the credit card machine I guess.... UGH!

Horrible experience with these guys. Found out that they charged me DOUBLE for the same carpet I could have ordered from stock interiors. When I asked them to match the price or allow me to return the carpet, they were unwilling, unprofessional, and almost harassing with their emails. I will NEVER do business with them again. They get carpet from ACC, same as everyone else online, yet charge twice the price for it.

My experience has been very positive, I send a sample of the head lining material. via an email attachment. Sample came back from SMS via snail mail, sample was exactly what I wanted. Ordered the material, . I made enquires about delivery, no excuses or delays, material came. I waited for the order to be processed, SMS came up the the goods as promised, and yes I paid in advance, which seems normal for this type of transaction.

Back in september 2015 we ordered some fabric for a 32 Ford interior which was said to be a 54 Dodge color and pattern. We asked if this material would be suitable for a roadster and water resistant.They sent us was is essentially table cloth material, vinyl ! To make matters worse the material as stained and discolored in areas.We obtained their approval to return the material and they said theyd charge 25% restocking. At that point we didnt care to lose 25% anymore. We have yet to be reaccredited in spite of many emails to Doug Pollock. Now they dont answer the phone and only deal by email, probably so they cant get an earful from people like us. This is ridiculous. We want our money back and encourage you to be extras careful when dealing with SMS. Obviously were not the only ones to have had issues.

I have a very negative experience to report doing business with SMS. I ordered three yards of what I was led to believe was original NOS comfortweave material for my 69 Camaro. The material looked correct comparing the original in my car to the sample I was sent by SMS. While it only took about three weeks to get the shipment which was last October, when I opened the roll of material there was a huge color variation right through the middle of the fabric. This was just the beginning of the back and forth with staff initially to get a replacement shipment, then Doug (the owner) got involved and I received another five replacement shipments of fabric, each one of them taking weeks to receive. And every time, each one of them would show up with various flaws and assorted problems; I do believe they sent me the same flawed piece twice!! But the final blow was the comparison of the most recent shipment (which Doug claimed in an email that it was original and that he pawed through some old backroom to find and that he would put it in his own car) and the original sample and the material was not even close-it is obviously a repro! I called Doug on it and provided a number of photos that clearly showed the difference and asked for a refund. At that point Doug quit answering me emails and has refused to make the situation right, so now I am stuck with three yards of junk that I paid $125 a yard for, and like everyone else my CC was charged immediately. I will go after him every way I can since this guy is nothing but a fraud selling the equivalent of a knockoff handbag( oh you should see his email quote on how I dont understand this business).So my advice is to look long and hard elsewhere before you subject yourself to dealing with these crooks.
