Technicuts is located in the lower level of the Stratton Student Center at MIT. Its open Monday through Saturday and usually has two to three barber/stylists available for walk-ins, but cuts by appointment also can be made. The shop itself is tiny and beat up, but that, in my opinion, is part of its low-key charm. Prices are great and I have received good cuts from all of the staff. The clientele is predominantly male, but you occasionally see a female patron sitting in a chair. I recommend it for its quality and prices.
I showed her a photo was about 1 inch on top and asked her to have an extra 0.5 inch longer. At the end, she left me with less than 0.5 inch. I will never go back even if it is free. Got to save money for buying cap instead.
Ive been getting my hair cut here for years. Moc does a great job and remembers what I want without me having to say anything. Everyone is personable, the price is good, and no appointment is needed. Perfect!
Cheap, but you get what you pay for. The haircut is fairly inconsistent even when I ask for the same thing. One of the barbers tried to argue with me on how I wanted my hair cut and ended up not listening to me. My bangs will sometimes be cut in a straight line that is not even horizontal. The haircut is often asymmetric. She also tried to speak Chinese to me even though I am not Chinese.
Great place. Good haircut. Normal haircut is $18.
The best place in East Cambridge and definitely at MIT. I’ve tried other shops for business-style cut, and this is the one. Professional, efficient, friendly - recommend highly.
The haircut experience depends on which barber you get. Personally, Ive had my best experiences with Moc and Oscar. Prices are reasonable.
I’ve been coming here for over a year now and I always get a great haircut from Moc!
Very happy with the service and my new hairstyle
I have had my hair cut by everyone in this place. I feel confident that no matter who cuts my hair, they are going to do a great job. I first came here when my previous barber increased the price of a haircut twice in the same year. Im happy that Technicuts is still charging what they are. (At the time of this review, a regular haircut is $16).Also, I never make an appointment and I usually dont have to wait. If I do, its not for more than a few minutes.
Theyve never done me wrong
Nice haircut option inside MIT campus
I had a decent experience with my fade cut, super cheap price, fast service
Didnt even get my hair cut here and didnt like the place. I came in to ask if they could do an undercut on women + designs + price quote. I live in Cambridge and like to try out new places in my neighborhood for new design ideas and barbershop banter...not to mention you dont see a woman barber everyday so I was hoping for a good conversation. The person who would actually be doing design was pretty rude and unwelcoming . I wont be spending my money or time here.
I found this place by accident one day and loved it. I have tough hair to cut and style and they did a great job. I will return.
Right in the MIT student center, their basement location makes it a cheap and easily accessible location. Accepts reservations and walk-ins.
Perfect place located in the Student Center in MIT Campus! Everything was great when I visited Technicuts.
BEWARE: BARBERS DO NOT UNDERSTAND INSTRUCTIONS It may be a language barrier, but the barbers just dont understand what youre telling then. I said I wanted 2 inches on the top, but he left me with barely .5 inch, with uneven looking hair on the sides. Guess Im wearing a cap for the next monthEdit:Hi Joyce, I did talk to the two barbers after it was all over and lamented how I wanted 2 inches on the top but was left with almost nothing. In the end though, once you take off hair, you cant put it back, so there wasnt much else left to do. :(
Cheap and friendly. Oscar is great!
Completely screwed up a very simple all-around trim. Will not return.
Asked barber to leave 2 inches, got less than 1 inch. Looks ok but not what I asked for. Dont expect much of a departure from a crew cut.
Incapable of trimming a beard. So much for being the MIT resident barber, the idea of symmetry hasnt trickled down to level 0 yet. Not even worth $6.
Not so great. Not so bad given the price.
Been going here for 10 years! Always consistent
Good and economical, could be better
Solid haircuts for
Awesome
