This place is a wonderful place to learn. The instructors are incredible, patient and very knowledgeable. The staff is easy to work with and the facility is top notch. I highly recommend trying out the free lesson for both kids and adults. Everyone gets a lot of exercise and a great self defense skill.

I talked with Beto today hes the owner and head instructor. Hes a local guy been here 3 years. He told me he can accept and start training kids at 3yo. No age limit if you can handle it. Folks this man is serious. Hes had 19 years of training, 3rd degree black belt, this isnt a daycare. Good prices, polite and knowledgeable staff. The professor is excellent and he really takes the time to work with the kids and show them how to truly enjoy BJJ. They have the best time while learning an art and becoming fit in a safe environment.

Being a Military family we have attended four different BJJ academies and visited several others. Previously it was something that we insisted on the children doing just to get them out of the house and do something physical. This time we did not insist, but they decided to train after watching Professor Beto teach several youth classes. He really keeps them engaged while teaching them this awesome martial art.My wife and I have also started training at Vilanova. I immensely enjoy Professor Betos style of instructing and feel that I have already improved my technique in a short time due to his methods and details. The other Vilanova BJJ professors, students, and coaches that I have met to this point are top notch instructors, training partners, and people.

My husband and I decided to try brazilian jiu-jitsu after watching many tournaments/tutorials online. While we have no other gyms with which to compare Vilanova, we feel fortunate for having chosen this gym. Professor Vilanova is very knowledgeable as are his coaches. The other students at the gym are very friendly and welcoming of newcomers. We cant imagine a better environment in which to train something as demanding and cool as brazilian jiu-jitsu. We highly recommend Vilanova to those adventurous enough to give it a try.

Academies like this one are few and far between. Outside of Los Angeles or Río de Janeiro you will be hard pressed to find a school where every class is thought by a black belt. Why go all the way to Brazil to discover the apex of Jiujitsu when it is available right here in Ventura County? Professor Beto is one of the nicest and most effective Jiujitsu teachers I have had the pleasure of meeting and it is clear that his excellence is contagious. When I went to visit VBJJ I was treated with the utmost respect even though I train at another gym. The mats are always spotless and the students couldnt be more welcoming. If you are looking for world class Jiujitsu in a fun and positive environment look no further.
