Resources to places the can land a hand around Gordon County such as Rental Assistance, Domestic Violence, Clothing voucher for recently released citizens that were incarcerated (Copy of release papers i.e. booking report required for $25 voucher). Plus my favorite, M-F lunch 11-12:30 & Dinner 5-6, and F 11-12:30. (ID is required but if ya dont have it theyll work with ya. Also, monthly food boxes. And on the way out stop by the V.A.C. thrift store for good quality products from clothes to whatever, Its a thrift store. 4 thumbs up. A big THANK YOU to everyone at the VAC, me and my wife have made it this far all thanks to yall help and wonderful meals. 👍

Been going here for years and everyone that works there have become farmiliar faces. They offer lunch Monday-Friday 11am-12:30pm to who ever needs it and we are regulars. The boss lady for the kitchen is an amazing cook and has the best tasting collard greens in the world. She deserves also alot of credit for how hard she works just to fill our bellies. Same goes for the rest of the staff. Thank you guys for all you do to help us!

Want a bargain its here waiting for you. Plus it helps out the community. Easy road access. Wednesday is senior day. They always have specials going on.staff is always friendly and ready to help when needed. I always go here to finds odd and ends. Need a missing piece to something you can probably find it here. They also have a large clothing section. House wares, clothing,toys,furniture and more.

The VAC has always had a need for volunteers to be able to help out and if you do end up volunteering they can be pretty friendly and easy to work with. A lot of companies and corporations offer their assistance to the community through the VAC and donate often.If you come on the weekdays from around 9:30 or 10:00 AM they serve a free lunch to anyone who walks in and it is always different each day. They only serve lunch until 12:30 PM, so be sure to arrive before then.

They dont help the community even if they say they are the Heart of the Community. They only cater to people who are homeless and are low income. Note: Im low income and have been doing my laundry once a week for a year. I was informed that I would need proof of income and proof of address. I was ok with it. Id come back on Tuesday to schedule an appointment. Instead, I was turned away because they assumed I lived with someone. Imagine having two story home with separate entrances and sharing a house with a complete stranger? Imagine having to ask your roommate for their check as proof of income? It isnt really any of their business of what my roommate makes either. So, while I walked to my car, it left me thinking that they are NOT for the community!The definition of a community is as follows: A group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.2.a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.So that means that despite your circumstances and income, these people should accept the community of everyone in need. Not just the homeless and low-income people and families.Every single person in Gordon County is apart of this community, whether you like it or not. Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, Do Unto Others, and WWJD? (What Would Jesus Do?)This is also discrimination against mentally challenged people, and the elderly.EDIT: I am not Lynn Lawson.

Voluntary Action Center is a community resource for those of us who need help on occassion. They work very hard to serve our community families.They helped me when I couldnt work. They will help you. Thank goodness for VAC.

It is a wonderful place. It helps out the county a lot and im so glad we have a place like this. It has good food and friendly staff. And there is no judging going on. Its just wonderful place to go.

Love the VAC! Every spring and fall cleaning, I gather anything I dont need and donate. Just drop off real quick. Then go inside and they write you a receipt. After, when it is time to do your taxes, take your receipts with you and count it off!!

My girlfriend and I take various canned and boxed foods there to help people in need. They serve meals there, when I dont know. They have a good thrift shop.

Its small but its a good place to donate cloths toys ect too for the community or if your in need they have lots of stuff cheap

I have recently spoken to someone about getting rent assistance. They have always been great to help me out with food assistance and everything, however today when I called I had kind of an upsetting experience. As I am a very slow talker I was trying to tell her my jobs that I had applied for but I felt as if she was over talking me and all I was trying to do is get my folder out while maintaining being on the phone. I felt like I was being rushed and when I told her I felt like she was over talking me she said I was being ugly. I then asked her name because I wanted to know who I was talking to she knew my name and she hung up the phone. I thought at first it was bad connection but it said caller hung up. I tried to call back and nobody would answer. I left a message and asked to speak to a supervisor but nobody has called me back. I hope whomever it was that took my call has a better day and know that I truly was not trying to be ugly I was just trying to get the correct information to you but again I felt like I was being rushed. Helps the needy with food and utilities. Soup kitchen for lunch. NO SMOKING ON PREMISES! Thrift store for incredible finds and charity for Calhoun homeless.
