I cant say enough good things about this place. Everything I tasted was delicious!!! The photos speak for themselves, it was all as good as it looks. The customer service was great as well as the prices. I will be visiting again soon

I spend a good 53.00$ there and the turkey wi go were very dry. The regular chicken wings were good, the crab cakes and shrimp did not seem done in the middle of them both. Catfish strips were fine the greens were also good but the little tiny piece of corn bread that they gave me was crazy for the amount I paid I thought everything would have been better. Now the staff is friendly but you could hardly hear the waitress talking cause the music was so loud and she talked to low to hear her.

Was excited as this was my first time. Ordered the Mac n cheese and the smell was not of any Mac and cheese I’ve ever had. It had an abnormal smell (almost like it was baked along side meat or with bacon fat). I just couldn’t get pass the smell and the taste wasn’t great. My kids didn’t eat and most kids love Mac n cheese even if it’s boxed vs home cooked. My fried chicken was good but the wings aren’t cooked with flour so don’t expect crispy-like texture. Honestly, I’ve had much better soul food. Service was excellent👍🏾

Food is too salty. This is my second time getting food from here and it is always salty. You can make good soul food with out dumping in salt. The only thing I like is the yams

I really hate to give bad reviews, but EVERY single time I have been here, I have had issues…. I keep saying I will try again, to support. I always bring someone from out of town, food critics. The service is horrible! Not as horrible as two years ago, but I will say, the establishment sticks two young girls in the front, at the desk who don’t know anything and trained not to know anything. I was there today and we were told that there was no indoor eating, which was ok, although I mentioned that it should be added to social media pages and websites. I felt it was safer anyway. We were told, while ordering that a few things weren’t available, which were on the menu. Then after ordering and paying, the young lady came outside to inform us that they were out of yams. She explained that they will not be getting any yams on that day. When we were finished eating and at the car, one of the preparation cooks asked if we enjoyed and I said, really, no and explained and she apologized and reported that she had just finished a pan of yams😦Staff is not trained from day one of opening the business. Like I said in the beginning, I’ve tried coming several times and today will be my last. Also, several customers who have come with me were disappointed, like today and also say they will not come back. I only came back because I referred a friend one month ago and she ordered out and enjoyed the food and did not have any complaints about the service and I thought they changed and I was wrong.

1st time I ordered through Grubhub. Turkey wings were exceptional. Mac and cheese and cabbage was good. However, tried going on a Sunday it was closed. Tried going at 6:30 tonight closed. Very inconsistent hours

So the smell coming from the restaurant outside is lustful. The atmosphere seemed very chill and inviting which is a good thing. The owner Ms.Nancy WOW very sweet person and has a big heart we talked briefly. Im going to give my very honest review as a foodie.... So my food for me was ok which I had the turkey wings ( fell off the bone), collard greens, rice and peas. My son had the chicken and waffles which he went crazy over and he should have Becuase the sweet potatoe waffle is ridiculous. My bff had the chicken meal with collard greens, rice and peas. I did enjoy the apple cheesecake and she has an amazing drink called the soul passion tea must have. Give her try everyones food palate is diffrent but I do recommend the place. I will go back and try something diffrent.

Been here twice and the food was excellent the first time. The second visit I never got a chance to eat. I was seated by a young lady that never came back. After 20 minutes of waiting I got up and walked out. A young man at the front taking phone and walk in orders never asked why I was leaving. I will probably won’t be visiting again based off the bad customer service that day.

So I decided that I wasnt cooking today, but wanted SOUL Food so I went to Grub Hub searching for a restaurant reading reviews and looking at pictures. I came across Taste of Soul good reviews nice pictures. Made my order I then received a call from them saying that Oxtails were all gone, she said the turkey wings were ready I asked if they came with gravy she Yes I asked for gravy. So long story short my first order was Potato salad Collards and Oxtails the only thing changed was the meat. Well when I got my order No Potato salad instead there was rice and peas.. and also No gravy on the the turkey. 😫 I will say however after getting over the order was wrong I must say the food was tasty 😋.

The food took a long time we should have order when we first enter. We enjoyed it but there was no social distancing. Although we enjoyed the music i wont be returning until they have stricter social distancing policies. The majority of the people I saw did where their mask there were a few who chose not to I only took mine off to eat or drink and then I put it right back on

I ordered Friday April 16th around 7 p.m. Im not certain if this is a new owner from when it was a Taste of Heaven. I was excited either way that they may have reopened under a new name or management. My order were wings with sauce (which were delicious), mac & cheese, sweet yams, and corn bread. When I arrived to pick up my order, they ran out of yams and mac & cheese. VERY disappointing to say the least. However, they substituted my sides with rice & beans and cabbage. Not a fan of beans and rice. Again, VERY disappointing because I could not get a refund. However, the cashier was very nice and accommodating. Also, no corn bread, so I settled for a piece of lemon cake along with a side of green beans. After eating their cabbage and green beans, dont buy it. Sorry to say, but the cabbage appeared seasoned, but had NO seasoning flavor to it. Tasted like steamed cabbage. The green beans were not great. I felt like it was leftovers from what customers dont order. You must try for yourself though.

Friendliness A+ but the food tastes old and the meat was very dry. Anything that was fried fresh like the fish and fries were great. I found an eyelash hair on the crab cakes and thought nothing of it because it could have been mine but now I see the stale cakes had lint on it and mold as well. I spent $70.00 on food and $33.00 on the cakes. My family and I travel to eat at different places for fun and I’m sorry but this one was hyped up and turned out to be a big FAIL. The two stars are for staff and decor.

After the original owners left, I ate in this restaurant to try their food(It was bleh)...Give places a second chance! The food slapped this time and a big improvement on the baked mac and cheese. I can nit pick like every other reviewer on here but hey I can cook my own food or go somewhere else. Im going to start ordering more often again.

I recently moved in the area and I was looking for some good soul food. Never tasted nothing like this place before. I ordered two separate meals on DoorDash to get a taste of what this place has to offer. Cabbage tasted like it was seasoned with a whole bunch of pepper. I nibbled on the Mac and cheese to try and finger out what kind of cheese was put in it. It tastes like a sour ziti mixture with no tomatoes sauce. The whiting fish tasted like pepper collard greens forget about it. Turkey wings tasted like they had burnt gravy on them. The rices was good and my two sprite sodas. Seriously everybody cannot cook soul food for the public. This is sad

The woman working the front is the nicest person Ive encountered in a restaurant in a long time! I went in for Oxtail, but they didnt have any. At her suggestion, i got the turkey wings, which were good but not as crispy as id have liked. They were out of rice and beans, so she substituted the side for me. I tried the collards, mac and cheese and candied yams. All were good, but i wanted more flavor from the mac and cheese. Id like to go back and try the oxtail with rice and beans...

Wow! Finally a real soul food comfort food restaurant. Absolutely one of the best restaurants Ive had the pleasure of dining at. This restaurant is clean and service is above excellent. Their portions beat others by a landslide. Huge fried Whiting, fried chicken the bomb and sides are delicious. The staff are on point and pay attention to your needs. The meal wait time less the 10 to 15 minutes. Our meals were hot and my grits were cooked right. I will be back. I was recommended by my brother to try and Im glad we did. We will be back. Thank you taste of soul 5 stars. Drop in and see for yourself. Oh yea ask to try the sweet tea.

Since I moved to the area a year ago this has been my go to soul food spot, but recently when I order for pick up there has been items missing or the order was put in wrong. Could just be a take out issue.

I ordered Whiting fish, Jumbo Shrimp, Mac and cheese, green beans for delivery. First of all upon opening my bag I noticed Out of Mac written on my container 😒 They gave me a double order of string beans which tasted ok. But all the juices ran over and made the fried shrimp soggy!!The fish was Not Fresh at all and smelled.and shrimp batter need more flavor! Thankful to grubhub for refunds!

I was disappointed because I had been meaning to try this place out for a few years now. Today I ordered the pineapple Jerk chicken and this is what I got. The chicken was hard dry and over cooked and smothering it in sauce couldnt disguise how dry and hard the chicken was. VERY disappointed I could NOT eat this..... The macaroni and cheese was very good.

Its a good wait but its good greens didnt have enough flavor but yams and the greennbeans

I ordered here a fried chicken platter and the chicken was pink on the inside .. all I’m saying I waited an hour for food that wasn’t even cooked fully. I’m good.

I attended the restaurant for a special event(I will review the organization that held the event separately). Upon arriving we were seated but did not have silverware or water. The waitress appeared overwhelmed but did a great job keeping up. One of the food selections for our event was jerk pineapple chicken. When we receive the chicken it was mostly pineapple glaze and no jerk. The rice was lukewarm and string beans were cold. The presentation of the food was fantastic and the taste okay.

The food was great but they keep forgetting food when I order like sides dishes.. But still was mouth watering fried fish and Mac and cheese and candy yarns was da best ever

The food is just okay, Ive had better soul food. disappointed that the fried chicken on the waffle is not fresh. I gave them two chances thinking that it may have just been an off day, but the second time I could tell that the fried chicken was reheated.

Enjoyed Sunday takeout dinner I had turkey wings with rice and greens and candied yams with Mac&cheese it was so delicious 🤤. The young man that helped us was very polite and told us to come back to dine in for there paint and sip nights and other events. We will definitely be returning.

The Food and the Homemade Tea are worth way more than they charge. Angel, Tamihya, and Tanaja made the experience exceptional. Ms.Nancy is the perfect Soul for this food. Most UNIQUE soul food from Fla.- Ct. No wonder people drive from NY and other states close by. The Social Calender is a great rep for Burlington.

I didn’t even get pasted ordering my food because the person who is taking orders has no prior knowledge of the menu. I asked about four times to either get chicken wings with two sides and the person on the phone repeatedly told me you don’t get two sides. While staring at the menu, then she ask if I want to cancel my order and puts me on hold. Ignorant

This is a pretty nice spot I went there to see my uncle Ambition the Poet Host/perform at JOKEN WORD.I just wanna say I had the sweet potato waffles and chicken. It comes smothered in Carmel and vanilla icing 🤤. Probably the best chicken waffle combo I ever had. The show and good was fabulous. If you ever in that part of Jersey definitely stop in and get that chicken waffle

Avoid this place by all means, here is an official warning.Ordered via door dash, driver arrived to taste of soul on time for my order which came out late. This lead to cold oxtails and missing cornbread. I called the restaurant and after a barrage of excuses I was advised to come in and pick up my missing side dish... which defeats the purpose of paying someone else to do that in addition to paying them for my meal. When asked if they could contact the driver or offer some form of compensation for my incomplete order, the restaurant employee continued with excuses. She never sought managerial advice, refused to rectify the situation, and the defensive tone was everything but customer service friendly.Even with their overpriced mediocre food I would have continued to patronize and support this local business but the lack of professionalism is an absolute deal breaker.My advice: Save your money and save yourself the headache... both the service and food will leave a bad taste in your mouth. #tasteofFOUL

Not Good at all. I am from South carolina and have family in Louisiana so I know good southern food when I taste it. The greens are definitely canned glory greens as well as the black eyed peas. The Ox tails were nice and tender, but did not have a good taste. Also, the Ox tails look very different from the picture posted on the website. I was really looking forward to the food being good, but I was disappointed instead. I would not recommend to anyone.

The potato salad was just ok. I was disappointed to say the least. I am from Louisiana and know how soul food is supposed to taste. Unfortunately this was not the place.

I ordered online for the third time and every time, I didnt get the.corn bread,, the extra sauce on which I paid for. I was told there is no sauces but yet no refund. I will be speaking directly with Nancy concerning this matter, I am sure she is unaware.of the lack of proficiency when she is not there.

Awesome place. Great customer service. Had our meal cooked by the owner not the head chef. Which It was a excellent experience. The mac&cheese was everything. Let me not discuss the cornbread its divined. Im definitely coming back for my peach cobbler. Thank you.

The service was nice, but I was disappointed with the food. I ordered the fish entree with greens and candied sweet potatoes. The fish was tough and greesy with no flavor. The sweet potatoes had no flavor and the greens were also tough and had no flavor. It was not worth the price.

I ordered the chicken and the shrimp with mac n cheese and rice & beans. Order arrived on time and still hot. Delicious! And the sweet dipping sauce had a hint of hot cinnamon. Fantastic!

Food was decent but tables and chairs TOO CLOSE together! You have to ask for cutlery and a cup for your bottled/can beverage. The staff is extremely friendly though and does come and check on you often. I also love their cooking concept of no salt, butter, or sugar. If you wasnt told you wouldnt have noticed flavor wise. I would only go back again if in the area or there was another show there

I’m only giving a 3 because the fish was season perfect..But for 16.00 dollars I Diffently expect to receive more then 2 pieces of fish.. Also parsley is a garnish I don’t know why it was all over my Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes..

Three stars because the food was good but the young girl at the front was NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL!! The first person you see when you walk into any establishment is the most important person! She did not greet us and she was talking on her cell phone, I think she thought she was too cute to speak.

Customer service definitely needs work. I was placed on hold for 20 minutes. I walked in the place and the young lady is sitting there with here head in her hand. I asked to speak to a supervisor and according to her, she was management. I told her (Zakia) that I was on hold while showing her my phone. She was apologetic but with underlying sarcasm. I still placed my order and after all of that she tells me they are a cash only establishment. I wanted to support them but didn’t even have the chance to do so. Definitely won’t be returning.

The staff is professional, welcoming and courteous. Ms. Nancy is so approachable and I have never had a dinner I disliked. I love the catfish and shrimp with the mango jalapeno sauce. Love this place!

Usually dont write reviews but the horrible food deserves it. Via Doordash, I ordered the crab cakes and fried shrimp meal with 2 sides. What I got was burnt crab cakes and tasteless sides of macaroni and cheese and rice and beans. Throughly disappointed because Ive heard great things about this restaurant. Added in the pictures so they cant act like Im lying.

I called to place an order and kindly told the young lady I was not from town and asked her what was on the menu for the day, her response was “ the same thing we have on the menu everyday”. Sweet potato waffles/fried chicken was really good..moist,light and sweet enough without syrup. Owner greeted us and was very nice and welcoming. Really enjoyed the service.

Finally tried this place this afternoon. My bf was tired of always getting fast food or pizza store food. So he was going to grab something there while I ordered from the pizza shop. Last minute I changed my mind. I got fried chicken (white meat was an extra $2) Mac and cheese, string beans, & corn bread (Corn bread was an additional $1.50) he got whiting, Mac and cheese, and potato salad along with their homemade tea. Everything was great. Pricey, but worth it. We were both fat and full after eating less than half of our food (& my bf is 6’4 250 pounds) will definitely be going back.

Delicious food,friendly and attentive staff. The Soul Passion ice tea is so good and refreshing. The atmosphere was relaxed. I had the oxtails...so tender,in a flavorful,savory sauce. The cornbread was so soft.... As you can read Ill be going back. 😁

You have got to try the tea. I dont know how it can be so sweet yet healthy. Food is delicious. Owner is a nutritionist and food is prepared in a healthy way without sacrificing great taste.
