I love PHS! I feel so blessed to live in an area with such a wonderful resource for animals!Over the years, I have gone there for many reasons.I have adopted a few cats... brought in lost animals... brought in injured wildlife... donated unneeded animal supplies...Always, the staff there really cares about the animals and goes above and beyond to ensure compassionate treatment of animals and humans both!Every time I have been there, I have been helped by people who know what they are doing and listen to what I am saying.

I found a squirrel in my backyard that i thought was injured. I kept him overnight and got him food, water, a blanket, and rabbit bedding- and then called the Peninsula Humane Society for advice on where to have him looked at. They were so knowledgeable and was willing to get the little guy same day. Turns out the little dude was still a baby, and she said he looked pretty healthy. They took him and said theyll nurture him until he knows how to be a squirrel again by being among their other squirrels at the wildlife center. Im really glad theyre around to take care of these wayward little ones.. consider donating to them!

Why I say found me, I didnt even see him,I walked pass and he jumped up and the look I got was like did you really not see it. 😀. The team was great they explained what I was getting into taking him home. They helped me find everything I would need. They even helped me get some classes for him. We started looking for a bonded pair of rescue dogs shortly after our sweet shepherd mix, Rizzolli, died. We saw a few pairs available in the Bay Area, but were drawn to Oliver & Luna. We were not sure what to expect when we went to meet them - they’d been surrendered over 10 months earlier - why hadn’t anyone adopted them?Because they were waiting for us!The staff and volunteers at the shelter clearly loved Oliver & Luna, as they do all of the rescues at the shelter. It’s spacious and clean and there is a sense of play everywhere you walk. These are big and happy dogs! They have adapted well to our home and ‘hood in Oakland. They are happy around people, which we credit to the many volunteers who walked, read to them, and cared for them. The adoption process was thorough, not rushed, no pressure, and bittersweet as we walked out the door with these sweethearts - I know everyone at the shelter will miss them - and they will miss their caregivers, but we will try to make up for it with a loving forever home. 💓🐾💗

Walking through the door there is a lovely woman to greet you and help guide you to where to go and explains each level. She was very welcoming and friendly. Walking throughout the building and checking the doggy levels was cool. Each dog has their own room with a paper that explains a bit of their history. I didnt feel pressured to adopt anything I just wanted to check it out. Its been a while since my dog passed and I feel its time to find a new pet, although I didnt come across a pet that I connected with I didnt feel my trip was wasted. Id come back again as Im still on my puppy search.

Very disappointing. I arrived at 5pm and quickly found a dog that was promising to adopt. Filled out the paperwork required to view her and then was told that I MAY be able to visit with her before they close at 7pm. How do any dogs get adopted out of this shelter if you can only help one person at a time?! Highly recommend visiting the Milpitas SPCA. Better selection of pets and much more efficient.

So far, weve attended Companion classes, Pet First Aid classes, holiday and other fun events. If youve recently adopted a furry child, I recommend you take advantage of their great programs. Also, if you have any items at home that youd like to donate, bring them over! They have a second hand store where they sell the items and the profits go back to the center.

I went to a few puppy play classes on Tuesday evenings. Connie is extremely knowledgable and caring for the puppies. My puppy was enrolled in a training class (not with SPCA) and I honestly regret signing up for that. Connie is much more helpful when it comes to questions about my new puppy. I would recommend the package deal.During our first play class our puppy and another growled at each other at the end of class. Connie made it a point to have both pups stay after class to ensure the puppies ended play class on a good note and that the negative encounter wasnt their last memory of the play session. Our puppy training class (not at SPCA) cost exponentially more and each time we were forced to leave once the hour of class was up..

One of the nicest shelters Ive seen. You can tell the volunteers at the center truly care for the animals there. You see them playing, exercising and being overall involved. The floors are nicely separated and they even play relaxation music in some of them. The main opportunity I see is the cleaning of the rooms where the dogs are. Because they do their necessities in them (urine and fecal), the cleaning should be a little more sanitational. Ive seem them use a mop from one room to the other and just spreading the urine used mop throughout the room as it is cleaned. Perhaps a little hose and desinfectant or clean the urine and then disinfect the room. Just an observation. But thank you for caring for animals that do not yet have a loving home.

They take excellent care of the rescues and do everything possible to put the animals in homes best suited to the needs of the pet. They go the extra step to provide additional training for those that would be otherwise hard to place. Their facility is incredibly clean, and with a vet on site, the pets get any medical treatment they may need. I cant say enough about this wonderful organization.

Sad there are so many chihuahua sized dogs for adoption; nice for those looking to adopt, but sad that so many chihuahua sized dogs were given up for adoption. Large or small, cats and dogs are a big responsibility, not just a play thing or status symbol. Just happy I found a healthy cat to join my family.

Went in to look at adopting a cat and the wait was supposedly three And a half hours because they said they only had one volunteer who could actually put a cat in a room with us. Yet there were 4-6 volunteers on the cat floor and several on the other floors who were just chilling on their phones. Sad because they had so many cats who need homes and we would have loved to give one a home.

This adoption center is really clean and the staff are friendly. However, the system for waiting to meet a dog is flawed. Waiting time can reach beyond 3hrs!! I understand that we cant rush big decisions like these. However, each family should come prepared to meet the dog. If theyre not ready (owned dog is not on site, waiting for a family memeber to arrive, etc), the slot should be given to the waiting family who is ready. My experience was that my family including my dog was waiting to meet with a dog who we want to welcome in the family. A lady arrived before us and asked to meet the dog that we wanted to meet. Thats alright. She met with the dog for an hour or so and that is still fine by me. However, she wanted her husband to meet the dog as well. Her husband took 2hrs to arrive at the center. Then thats when they started the deciding about the adoption. I asked the staff if that was fair. According to the staff, the priority is given to the first one who enters the door. Thats sound and fair. What unfair to me is that my family was ready but we had to wait for someone who was not ready. In the end, we waited for 4hrs. Im happy that the family who took forever decided to adopt the dog. But what if they didnt and I gave up waiting earlier? That dog could have missed an adoption.

Absolutely love PHS, the staff is usually welcoming and does their best to make your pet feel comforted, except on this visit.I went to have them microchip ID my pup. The only thing they asked was if she had a problem getting shots (jerkin away, try to bite, etc.) I said no and they said OK well be right back. I thought I would at least get to go with her (my dog). Especially, when they took her and basically had to drag her as she didnt want to leave me. When I asked the new trainee, if I could go back with her, She said she didnt know. (I get that you are new, but at least go ask the other 2 staff who took her.)I realize the injection is different from a vaccination but when they give those they ask if you would like to hold your dog or should they. This is the reason I gave only 3 stars. I want to give more because I support them whole heartedly. I may edit after my next visit to their furchandise store.

After spending the whole night searching neighborhoods, next day morning found a lost pet note posted from this thief trying to appear as a caring individual.
