Used Shelter Construction for new roof and they did a great job. I also used them for window plugging up 2 windows & residing for our kitchen remodel. They did a pretty good job,but had them come back to level out the drywall; which they did with no problem (turns out it was not in the original bid, but they did it for me any ways). They are all very easy to work with and I would use them again if needed.

I would recommend this company to anybody. We had a large storm roll through and damage our roof. I emailed Kley, one of the chief estimators, and he responded to us that same night. He was very professional, quick to respond to questions, and knowledgeable in his field. He came out to our house and did a free inspection the next day. Within a week we had our new roof which was finished on the same day they started working on it. The roof looks great!

Our insurance company initially turned us down after we had hail damage done to our home. Kley from Shelter came out, examined the damage and took detailed photos. He met with our insurance adjuster and was able to get our new roof, garage door, downspouts and some siding approved. They really know how to work with insurance companies and it is obvious they have done it a long time. Very professional and great at offering options.As for the installation, Shelter was right on time and did a very professional job. They were careful not to damage plants surrounding the house and did a great job of cleanup.I even talked a couple of my neighbors into having Shelter come out and assess their damage...both were initially turned down. Due to a recent storm I needed my roof repaired. Shelter Construction had somebody out to look at my roof and helped me along the way to with contacting my insurance company. These guys are great - real pros. After a hail storm, the canvassers hit our neighborhood. I called a contractor friend for a referral, and that’s how I found Shelter.They inspected, consulted on replacement options, and dealt with the insurance company. Our roof looks better than what the original builders put up, the work was done quickly, and the cleanup near perfect.

I want to put this out there for anyone considering a contractor for Steel Roofing for their home. My boyfriend, Curt and I hired Shelter Construction LLC, based in Brooklyn Park, MN (but work in many areas of the U.S.), after they approached us not long after a hail storm last summer. Yes, a storm chaser, but with a good reputation (at least for Asphalt Roofing). Signed a contract on 10/09/2018, construction began in April and we are still to this day, 09/09/2019, waiting for a beautiful roof. We have had nothing but problems with this company, which has led Curt to file with the Better Business Bureau, Angies List and the MN State Attorney Generals Office. Were hoping that with these three, we can get some results. This is all public information, go into any one of these sites for all of the details. Search for Shelter Construction LLC. Basically, they hired a subcontractor that had no experience with the type of material ordered. They installed it incorrectly, it had to be torn off and then a complete tear off done on the roof. New material was ordered, and with instruction from CertainTeed, was started up once again. The subcontractor guessed on how to finish the trim (some pieces hang lower then others and the backside is open with nails not attached to anything), left one corner of the house unfinished and also left multiple dents because they werent careful on where they stepped. Shelters response has been very frustrating. We were told by the project superintendent that the only reason we notice it now is because its brand new, after awhile we wont notice it anymore. !!! Thats not the attitude that a contractor should have about its services and product. The last thing we were told is that they were ordering a dent puller and would see if that will work. We told them to try it, but any dents are unacceptable! After two weeks I finally emailed the Project Superintendent to find out when we could expect them to come out, he said he would schedule after Curt and I signed a paper, which basically gets them off the hook if the repairs dont meet our expectations. They did this because with this type of steel roofing, you cannot remove sections and replace them. The whole roof would have to come off again. No fault of ours, were not the ones who hired an inexperienced subcontractor...so now I am sharing this info because we are so tired of being jacked around by this company. Ive attached pictures of their workmanship. Would you be happy with this at the tune of $22,420.00?

I was satisfied with all phses of my basement finishing except for the ceramic tile on basement floor which was acceptable.

They brought an amazing team of 8 people who efficiently worked together like a well-oiled machine as they removed our old roof, expertly assembled a new one, and thoroughly cleaned up the area. If I was the owner of Shelter Construction, I would be very proud of this crew and very pleased to have them represent my company. As a homeowner who appreciates the extra touches that might seem invisible and certainly could be ignored as a way to cut costs, the Shelter Construction crew we had spent time and energy doing all the obvious things well but also doing the little things well. They carefully replaced the flashing around our chimney and repaired plywood sheets that needed it. They also did lots of work to replace, repair, and caulk pipe and ridge vents. I would hire them again in a heartbeat and have already recommended them to neighbors.

I contacted Shelter Construction when I was at my wits end. No company persisted beyond the initial pushback of my insurance company except Shelter. Shelter has replaced two roofs on our home as a result of storm damage. Both times, the crew did a great job, finished on time and cleaned up the area when they were done. There was a breakdown in communication between our salesman and me regarding the gutter screens. I became frustrated that he wasn’t returning my messages so I called Shelter’s office. Karen, the delightful young lady that answered the phone, was understanding and very helpful. She put me in contact with Matt Godin. Matt and I talked about the issue with the screens and set up an appointment for him to come to the house and check them out. As it turned out, he was the Project Manager for both of our roof replacements so was familiar with the job. I told him the conversation I had with the salesman, who is no longer with the company. He said he would come up with a solution and get back to me. He called about two hours later and said he would come out the following Friday and replace the screens himself. Karen and Matt are two fine examples of customer service. A dying art. Both of them are delightful and professional. Very fun people to work with. If our roof ever needs replacing, I will for sure call Shelter.

When a rep stopping by to give us a free inspection, because there had been other roofs in the area with damage from hail, we were surprised to find our roof had issues. He contacted our insurance company. Together Shelter and Travelers worked out the contract for repair. We delayed the repair till spring, because the Minnesota weather didnt cooperate. We were fortunate to have Matt Godin, Production Manager, handle our job. We felt confident and comfortable in the quality of work. Matt helped us with our gutter situation that was not even on the list. The roofers found that 2 sheets of plywood had to be replaced due to water damage. We are so happy with the job. SC organized the insurance company review, the scheduling, and kept in contact with me through the entire process. They completed the job in one day. The next morning, Ted was at my home to do a final walk through of the job site. He immediately took care of a couple issues that I brought up. I have recommended them to my neighbors.

Craig @ Shelter construction made the entire experience as easy as 123. My tenant as well as myself are truck drivers and very seldom do our schedules allow us to be home at the same time, Craig met with us with very little warning and actually drove 60 miles to meet with me so I could sign some last minuet documents from my insurance co. We were given plenty of notice as to when the crew would begin and I was very surprised when told that the entire job would be completed in just one day, and I have a large home, The yard was left as clean as before they arrived with not a single stray nail to be found. The very best part was that I didnt have to deal with the insurance company because of course they low balled the estimate and Craig dealt with the adjuster for me. I now have a beautiful up to date roofing system with a 50 year warranty.

Shelter Construction replaced our roof this summer and we were really pleased with the entire project. From the beginning, they were super easy to work with and knowledgeable about navigating the insurance claims process (much better than other contractors wed met with). The entire process was straight forward and they laid it all out for us so there were no surprises. The actual roof replacement was fast and done well and the new roof looks great.

He helped us connect with our insurance company to get the ball rolling as our roof was very noticeably damaged from the storm. We are very happy with the work. We had a leak from a vent and I called and someone was out here in less than a hour. He said he was going to come back and replace the vent and I believe he did but I was not informed if he was. Good service when there is an issue is a good measure in my book and you did well.

While the company was quick to contact and banter with our insurance to get money to begin the construction, the construction process took triple the amount of time we were originally told. We were told it would be feasible to be done in a month & it was supposed to be finished in July. Construction was completed by the beginning of October. For the majority of the time the house sat empty with most of the work taking place in the last couple of weeks. Since we were unable to live at the home at the time, this cost us a lot of money in rent, storage, utilities, etc. and delayed our home getting on the market during a good sales time.In addition, the work that was done was done shoddy. My father in-law had to spend days fixing trim and other projects. There were large holes in mismatched trim, trim cut in odd places and taken from other work we were doing, missing toe-kicks and other things we had do ask to be redone.That said, the workers always had a pleasant attitude... but in the end that doesnt fix a house. (Will try and post photos later.)

The work performed was top-notch from the original inspection, through the roof installation, all the way to the final inspection. Kley was a real pleasure to work with, he worked with the insurance company completely, wasnt even necessary for me to talk with them. Overall we were very happy with the end result.One thing that was unfortunate is that there was a miscommunication between our project manager and the crew which caused shingles to be removed when there was an upcoming rainstorm. Due to this we had a small leak in our entryway. After contacting our project manager he was responsive and got the crew out to fix the issue as soon as possible.

An (what we would suspect, because he was driving a company truck) employee, just tried to enter our home on a Sunday night at 11:15pm. When we started to shut the door on him he proceeded to shout and swear through the door until we said we were calling the police. He then turned off his lights and peeled out of the neighborhood. We have never done, and would never do business with the company.
