If you’re looking for a four-legged BFF, look no further. The staff here are very kind and professional, who are clearly passionate about what they do. They *really* care about their animals and know so much about each and every one of them. The living arrangements they set up for their animals are some of the best I’ve seen. The moment you step into the facility you can tell these animals are well loved and cared for.I’ve wanted a cat my whole life, and with the help of the amazing staff here, I adopted a super sweet kitty today. She is fully vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. The adoption process is so smooth, it still feels unreal I have this little angel in my life now. I really can’t thank the staff in Elmbrook Humane Society enough, they are doing amazing work. I highly recommend adopting through this facility, and also consider donating to support what they do!!~3 week update: (I don’t know how to reply to a message so I’m just going to edit the original post) She is living her best life taking lots of naps, chasing lasers and killing poor fake birds. I found a stray dog. All places were closed. Found Elmbrook Humane Society. They were very helpful. Checked for chip. I called later that night to see if the dog was ok. Her family had picked her up already. I was very relieved. Thanks Elmbrook
You can tell that the staffs really care about the animals! The environment is professional and clean. Everyone is super friendly! I work as a volunteer for this organization, and its so great to see the people here are working toward great cause!
Unable to walk through and look at dogs. The rule is to register first and then make an appointment to meet and greet a dog that meets your preferences. At the time they didnt have any young small dogs which is what we were looking for. Same thing at the Elmbrook Humane Society. We kept looking on line at Petfinder com and luckily found a cute wirehaired terrier at Hoover Hause in North Prairie WI. We are very happy with our new adopted Pooch. We had to put down our beloved Cairn terrier Corky on July 6. Now were committed to another cuddly pooch named JoJo. We are thankful for the Humane Societys and the important work the do. If you love dogs and cats, consider volunteering there.

Amazing -my husband volunteered and we found our rescue dog! Staff knowledge, honest and friendly. *Update we thought of getting a second dog for our rescue and they did a 20 min meet and greet where the two could get to know each other! Though it didn’t work out the fact that they care so much about placement for their rescues is a huge plus!
Words can’t express how grateful I am for these folks. They took care of my pup for a week, unexpectedly. She was very scared and nervous and they made her a private room to help her relax. They loved her until I was able to return and pick her up. Due to it being unexpected, they had to provide all that she needed for the week, including an updated rabies shot, and they went above and beyond. She was treated like a “Lady” (her name) and spoils her rotten. I was so worried about her as I knew she’d be scared and confused and could also be a little aggressive to other dogs Abe people she doesn’t know, but it was obvious they knew how to handle her and built trust with her quickly. Again, going out of their way to make her comfortable. Thank you all so very much!
I adopted my beautiful boys from here and everyone was so kind. They let me sit in their room and bond with them for an hour accompanied by an employee who knew a lot about them. Everyone loved these boys so much, some even came in to say goodbye to them. The staff is amazing and they genuinely care about their animals.
We rescued our cat Max there six years ago. He is the best cat ever. The staff was very helpful. We go there often and everyone is nice.
Excellent shelter with great customer service. They also have had puppy classes & lots of good pet care info.
Be careful to check the documents before adopting, they manipulate the dogs age that I adopted recently to a younger age. He was 8 but they told me 5. I saw the truth from his medical documents after I adopted him.

Awesome place to get a dog. We got out blue nose pitbull from there. She is a super sweetheart. Got super lucky to get a pure bread. Dhe would have been a $1,500. Dog from a breeder. I highlt recommend pitbulls or also called an american staphordshire terrier. They have been given a bad name over the years
Reached out to EHS recently & purchased a bunny - the staff was absolutely incredible, so knowledgeable, so transparent & extremely considerate and protective of all animals. Really enjoyable experience, I highly recommend EHS!

Had a horrible adoption of a cat. The Humane Society would not take the cat back. We worked with Waukesha Humane Society and they were able to take the cat. My attorney gave them papers and never heard a word back. I finally was able to get ahold of the director and she was had no empty for the situation. She admitted, they do not know the animals behavior before adopting them out.
Everyone was so friendly and able to provide helpful information. Not even 24 hours in and so inlove with my new kitty. Thank you!!

If youre looking to add to your home I would definitely check out Elmbrook Humane Society. Their residents are happy, healthy, and absolutely adorable.

My family has adopted two dogs from this humane society and both adoption processes were smooth.If you are considering adopting an animal from this shelter, be sure to bring along your family members. They will ask for everyone in the household to meet your potential animal. They also have meet-and-greet sessions with the other animals in your household. Its a very thorough process.Otherwise, its a great place to stop in even to mull over how adorable all of these animals are. I never leave feeling guilty because this is a no-kill shelter - just another one of the reasons why I love this one. :)
We recently lost one of our dogs and our remaining one was lonely. We visited a number of different shelters trying to find a new family member. Elmbrook was the most calm and well organized shelter we met. Everyone we met was fantastic and helpful. The adoption counselor that helped us with the match was really great. I cant say enough things about how helpful and patient he was. The nice lady that did the paperwork was just as great. If we ever have to adopt again I wouldnt go anywhere else. Their adoption fees were by far the most reasonable as well.THANK YOU ELMBROOK HUMANE SOCIETY FOR THE NEW FAMILY MEMBER.

We got our dog Hazel from Elmbrook in September. The staff was wonderful. We went on a Friday and they were willing to hold her until Sunday when we took her home. They even required a puppy class. The trainer and the class were fantastic. We learned so much about training our puppy, Hazel. She is now 8 months old and a wonderful dog.I would highly recommend Elmbrook Humane Society and please be open to training your new dog and being patient with her.

They have a large selection, but I hate most of the staff. The first time my wife and I went, we called ahead of time to make sure a dog was still available since we were driving from Madison. The woman we spoke to said he was, but when we got there he all of a sudden wasnt. We then looked at another dog since we drove all that way. It was pretty obvious one of the women didnt want us to adopt a dog. She tried suggesting he was a pit bull, and didnt believe we had permission from our landlord to have a dog. He ended up getting adopted by someone else.So one day I went back by myself. They wouldnt allow me to adopt a dog without my wife there. They told me she could come in alone and adopt him since I already met him. When my wife called, they said they had no idea who I was, even though I had just been there an hour earlier... Again, they have a good selection, but their staff is pretty much a joke, unfortunately.

We adopted 2 kittens from here, theyre healthy, loving, wonderful additions to our family. My Mil adopted her dog from here as well, he is very well-mannered and even-tempered, and very affectionate. The staff was patient, answered all of our questions, and was committed to ensuring that we the family and the animals were a good fit for each other!

We adopted a dog about a week ago through them. Everyone there was very nice and helpful and understanding of us having questions about the adoption process especially since we already had one dog who we wanted to meet the new dog multiple times.My only complaint is that once we took the new dog to the vet, they pointed out a few health issues that should have been marked on her file that were very obvious to him that the vet that checked her should have noticed-- there was a bald spot on her side that they claimed was from how she was laying that is actually an infection and a few other small things like that. They were also not upfront about housebreaking--they told us she was housebroken.. she definitely isnt.. None of those are deal breakers but it would have been nice to know what we were getting into.

Sweetest staff. They held a dog for us we wanted so badly and made sure we could see him first after he was neutered and ready for adoption. They worked with us to make sure we would be able to get that dog. I couldnt be happier. They were very well informed. We love our puppy and love the quality love of this place.
Took Girl Scout troop here for badge requirement. Staff was friendly and helpful. The also brought in a service dog for the girls to learn about. Facilities were clean.
We adopted Kelly yesterday. She has already settled in to her new and forever home. So far she gets A+ on everything except jumping up. We need more work there.She is a keeper for sure. Sure glad we found her!

If you want them to work with you on holding an animal they wont help you in the least tried so hard to adopt a cat was told I had to wait 24 hrs and work in the next 24 hours and couldnt get there in time tried to have my mom come pick him up for me and they wouldnt allow that either thanks for all their loving help all I wanted was to give a cat a forever home and they could care less. Wont ever go back there.
I really like what they do the only problem is sometimes they are not all that organized and communication is not always the best. Everyone is really nice though, and you can definitely tell that they love what they do and they want what is best for the animals.
I looked online and saw a dog i really wanted so i drove all the way from madison. When i got there i thought it was going to be a quick in and out since the dog was still there and it was right when it opened up. When i had my visit with the dog they said they had to contact my landlord because of what type of dog it was. This type of dog was not on their list of dogs to do that for though. Then they needed my roommate to come in. Yet I said she is hardly home and Im the one who is going to take care of her. It took my roommate an hour and half to get there. I thought while we wait for her they were going to call my landlord. But nope they called after I said can we get this going. I wanna take her home. I finally left 3 and half hours later with no dog. I did not like the staff and how it was run.
Nice upkeep for kennels and cat area, the staff is always friendly.
My wife and I frequent humane societies on weekends. This is by far one of the cleanest and most well run in the Milwaukee area.
This month it will be the 6 year anniversary of when I adopted my kitty baby Kovu from this shelter. I am often told how lucky I am that I found such an amazing cat:) My life has improved so much with his presence, and I will forever be grateful to this shelter and its employees!

If i could give 0 stars a would. wont let me surrender a cat that insnt even mine without an “appointment” i have no where to go with the cat and was told they will try to get me an appointment soon, excuse of being called a shelter that wont even take in an animal thats not mine, your better off going to haws and madacc where they help animals and are cooperative with intakes
** update called and told them what has happened and they have been great at trying to help me get my kitten well!Adopted a cat with documentation that he had been dewormed and medically checked. The 2nd day I had him I had to admit him to the ER because he had roundworms so bad that he had become severely dehydrated that his kidney wasnt functioning properly. He had to get IV fluids due to the severe diarrhea caused by the roundworms. He also had a respiratory virus.
