I applied via the web for a position for which Vaco was the recruiting firm. I very quickly received a call from John Bannister. He took the time to walk me through several potential positions much more suited to my experience, aspirations and skills, not just that to which I had applied. John asked questions I had never heard from a recruiter. Why questions to strongly indicate his motivation was to find the best match and not payday. This would be the theme throughout the process of applying with several organizations. Consistent verification that things had been represented clearly, were still in line with my goals and offers to help in any way he could. John was uncommonly pleasant, personable, professional, timely, ethical and effective. By orders of magnitude the best experience I have ever had with a recruiting firm.

I thought this staffing agency would be very good as they had very good reviews and the recruiters seemed nice enough. I was very impressed with the recruiter when I was telling her what I was looking for but I never heard from her ever again. She told me how she would be contacting me regularly to discuss potential jobs but I never got a call from her. When I messaged her two weeks after the phone interview, she told me she was switching me to another recruiter as this one was going through surgery. I had a phone call with the new recruiter and I was told the same thing in which I would regularly be in contact with her about job prospects. It has been about 3 weeks now and I have not heard a word from either recruiter. Thankfully, I have obtained a job and I was able to do it all by myself without a recruiter. I do not recommend this employment agency as they will not take the time to help find you find a job. They will simply ghost you if they can’t find anything and if they do find a job, it’s all about commission for them and not finding the right fit for you.

Yeah, they did the usual recruiter stuff, connected me with a prospective employer, made the introductions, etc., but then they did something I hadnt even realized other recruiters fail to do; they embarked on the journey with me. Working for Vaco has helped me make significant advancements in my IT career. Jack has been extremely helpful and has been the best recruiter Ive had in over 13 years of IT jobs. Not only did he help place me in a tough job market, but he also was attentive in the kinds of work I found interesting and followed up with me after being hired and starting work. If Im ever in the position of needing another contract or contract to hire position, Ill be reaching out to Jack again.

I am not a fan of the contractual side of staffing agencies. They can lead to severe delays in conversion and the loss of good opportunities/employees. That being said Vaco is a step up from your average staffing agency in that they will work to find you a role quickly, stay with you even after you are in your role, and try to make the process as smooth as possible. If the idea of struggling to be seen by companies in a pool of resumes sounds frightening Vaco would be a good option to consider as they work directly with companies sourcing talent needs and only put you in the best fitting roles. As for myself, I prefer the direct hire route and likely will not use a staffing agency in the future.

These guys will probably just waste your time. I dealt with a software recruiter name Taylor and he just gave me the run around, made me take a useless test that he didnt even bother discussing with me. This place cares very little about their clients and is just trying to make a quick buck on any potential candidate. They wont work with you and disclosing I had some mild disability probably made the recruiter run for the hills. Their only goal is to fulfill jobs to make a buck off of you and really dont care the first thing of helping or working with clients. I think almost any other recruiting agency I dealt with has been more helpful than Vaco. My review is only for Nashville office as I have no clue how other ones would operate.

This is a deceptive consultant firm and I would caution anyone seeking a serious career path to proceed with high scrutiny. The CenturyLink/Lumen partnership is also suspect.

The recruiter, Jack, was top notch and straight forward. I had another job offer that I was waiting to hear back from, and he stalled the hiring manager at the job he was recruiting for like a pro. Thank you for everything Jack.
