Just left Golds in Bowie. 1 person staffed the facility. No one was checking the weight area. Immediately you are hit with the stench. This is not body odor but odor set in from not cleaning and disinfecting thoroughly. It permeated the entire back of the building. The equipment is old and rusted. I was an avid Golds member in DC Connecticut Ave location and never had this issue there. Do better Golds in Bowie. Put a rack cable and smith machine in the womens area. We lift and need variety as well. Posted pics.

Personally, I find the staff to be pretty awesome. If I had to review my over all experience it would be a 4 out of 5.Long story short, my wife and I canceled our LA fitness membership to come here. Our main deciding factor in this was the Lady Golds section of the gym. My wife prefers to work out in this area. Unfortunately, someone who should never be allowed to make business decisions decided to remove this area of the gym. We feel pretty cheated and screwed. So 4 star now 1...Other then that, the remodel is looking promising.

Beware of their hidden fees. I cancelled my membership in late June but was charged a total of $65 in fees in mid-July.The actual gym is not pleasant to work out in either. Would not recommend; patronize a more respectable establishment.

The employees here are so unprofessional, especially those that work at the kids club. They are rude with a bad attitude. Which is ironic because they are with kids all day. You would think they will soak up some of the joy. I wanted to leave my daughter at the kids club and the lady who was supposed to be help me out was so cute impolite and disagreeable that I decide not to leave my daughter with her. Such a disappointment

Hello..! I’ve been coming here for a month now & I really like this gym a lot..! However, I am displeased with the other members that come here to workout. It’s been on 2 occasions (including today as I just left) that when I try to workout on the side where majority females workout at (by the women’s restroom) that the members there hog up not 1 mirror but BOTH mirrors to workout!! I think it’s unfair and we ALL pay to workout there and to be comfortable working out. It should be no reason that both mirrors should be hogged up by ONE INDIVIDUAL!! I understand that you’re trying to get it in and do your workouts but be courteous of others that may come in and want to workout and use a mirror. I’ll have to go by the window to try and workout because it’s a female that taking up both mirrors and that’s not cool nor courteous. It was a lady that came in and stayed inside for every bit of 5 mins and left because the other lady (that was taking both mirrors) was ALL OVER THE PLACE!! Going from one mirror to another and jumping all around the room. Like be mindful that others are there to workout too just like you but can’t really do what they want because you want to take up all the space. Nonetheless, I’ll still continue to come there but it has to be something done about that matter.

This place is the worst gym i have ever visited the people at the front desk we first met were nice and very well mannered. But the one day i came with my daughter and son, they said my son was one yr too young and we requested to be given a few minutes but they became very rude and asking us to leave at that moment and even rudwly asked if we wanted to cancel the membership without us saying a thing. The manager had the worst way of dealing with such situations, she ended up making coming to this gym an even greater regret. I wont recommend this gym to anyone.

Definitely the worst gym I have ever been to!The members bring speakers with them, turn it all the way to the highest volume and the management doesnt say anything about it!The funny thing is that the first rule that has to be obeyed is be courteous to other members or it may result in an end of the membership, right, how courteous!

When I signed up with that gym, I asked if I’m going to pay anything when I cancel my membership and the answer was nothing at all.When I came to the gym to cancel my membership they charged me for the month we are in and for next month too and we still in the middle of the month.

To start off, when entering the gym, we were treated pleasantly and was encouraged to sign membership with them but today was just the build up of what have been happening. The manager, Carrisa and her associate named Gary or something like that put the top most disrespect and showed no sign of settling down. I came with my son and daughter and they said that my son was underage to exercise, he is less than six months away from the age restriction. I was still working out and asked if I cud finish he could just hang around away from disturbing other people. Gary, or something like that stood in front of me and was insisting I leave with my kids. I had just gotten there with barely a month of membership, and was getting annoyed, I was talking to my kids about canceling the membership out of anger but was not sure. On getting to checking out, I find out that Gary had told Carrisa that I wanted to cancel the membership but I had said nothing to her about it and they became rude, last as if they wanted me out immediately. this was the worst service that I have ever received, I would most definitely recommend and do not ever want to return. Pls do not ignore these reviews because it is a pattern that has been noticed by many.

I am a former member with this gym. It was not a good experience, but, I thought let me give them another shot, because Ive lost weight since Ive been there, and not want to continue moving forward, and toning. I was there last night with friend to work out, and was going to speak to them about renewing my membership, after the workout. Once the manager came out, I think her name of Krissy, Carissa, something like that, but once she came out it all went out of my mind. I remember why I did not want to deal with this location, the staff lacks professionalism, and customer skills. Listen you can get anyones money, but the best advertisement is people, and they way you treat a person, can make your establishment, grow, or decrease. I work around people who need to be referred to a good work out facility, but this one is a lot to be desired. I like the woman side, and the sauna, but at what cost, if you dont care about your members, and speak to them so with such hostility. I cant put another dime in this location, until management, and staff improves. I am not just a membership, I am a person. #peacout.

During a pandemic this gym charged me a maintenance fee. They did not send out an email stating they would reopen and resume charges because they are doing shady business. After speaking with a few employees including the manager I see they have no regard for people or their current situation. I was told by the first employee I spoke with that if I had called sooner and canceled then I wouldn’t have been charged. How is anyone supposed to call sooner if there was no notification of a gym reopening. I’ve begged these people for a refund and they have not done so. This location does not have customers in mind at all. We are all trying to stay afloat and snatching $50 for a maintenance fee 4 days after reopening without a notice is bad business

Its pretty good.Pretty good variety of good equipment as well as a good gym environment with nice staff. Definitely the go to gym for me in the area.Only problem is misplaced weights but thats not the easiest to fix when people are misplacing 80lbs+ weights throughout the day.

I just recently rejoined this gym and let me say the ONLY reason why I left is because I moved to Waldorf, MD in 2016. That said LA Fitness was sooooo RUDE and disrespectful to me on so many levels I had to leave and guess where I went? Back HOME to Golds Gym in Bowie. Yes I have to drive a lot further but its worth it to know that you will be greeted with friendly employees, a superb work out environment, and an over great family environment. When I returned this past Monday I smiled as I walked in... it I felt like I was finally BACK HOME!!! I love this gym!!!!

This is a very nice gym. The only problem here is the general manager Karissa Dodson. She has no people skills, she talks to you in a demeaning tone. Everyone please do not ignore my or other reviews about her. Let’s all report her to corporate so she will see that you can’t treat people the way she does. She has a nasty attitude when dealing with people and deserves to be fired!

Did not actually work out here...this was a spot my brother frequents constantly since he has a membership! Coolest feature is the fact it has a drop off spots for people with kids to leave the kids until the adults finish their workout. Seems like an area liked by the youngsters from what I was seeing. In a beautiful part of Bowie MD of course, so I really didnt expect less. Nothing to really speak of other than that.

Great gym. It has everything I need and more. I usually work out at 5 am so the hours work great for my schedule. I also go in the evenings sometimes and that place is hopping with energy. Definitely the best value in town. BTW, I was going month to month but they offered me a free month if I signed on for a year so I did it;-{)

Ive witnessed the current manager being hostile and racist towards staff and patrons. The equipment needs total replacement. Space is limited. There are a number of sketchy trainers here...save your money. Group fitness classes are okay but again, invest in solid equipment. I was in group cycle and the pedal came apart. I could have hurt myself. When I brought it to the attention of the front desk and instructor, the staff person just shrugged. No help. My shoe was still attached and I ended up damaging my clipped in shoe trying to remove the pedal. Do better. There are some friendly patrons but there are also some jerks and pervs/stalker like coming through here.

They do not allow you to cancel your membership in a reasonable way. Multiple calls, bringing in official mail, lots of steps to cancelling then they STILL charge you after because they’re “processing” the cancellation. I liked the gym before I moved out of the area, but the predatory roadblocks they set up when I tried to leave made me never want to attend another gold’s gym.

I will start off by saying the gym it self is great, it has everything you would need.EXCEPT ONE MAJOR KEY. CUSTOMER SERVICE.If your expecting customer service you will not find that here.The staff there are more worried about chatting with friends, and the Managers cant answer any questions and have to go to the General Manager to get any type of answers. Why hire 2 or 3 Managers if they cant make decisions.They will make up rules and regulations along the way. Whats so contradicting is they will say your contract states so when it comes to certain things. But when it comes to you having and issue, and it does not state it in the contract or in the Rule section, they will make stuff up and try to enforce this.As i stated the gym it self is great, it does get very busy after 5pm that would be my other biggest set back.The classes they offer are great, teachers are all nice and know customer service.All in all, just be careful, if your looking for customer service, please be cautions.

My wife and I are very fitness conscious. We frequent this gym (at least 4 days/week). I see a bunch of negative reviews (most likely from people that show up twice a month and expect the world to revolve around them). Granted its a bit smaller than some locations so, but the atmosphere is great. The staff is very polite. I dont take the classes, but the folks in the look like theyre having a great workout... And I see this on a regular basis.So please... Stop complaining about the staff not dropping everything to wash your feet. Get in there, get on with your workout, or whatever youre there to do and go on about your business. ITS A GYM, NOT A MASSAGE PARLOR.

Didnt mention Carissas name but they asked if it was her and said they have had SEVERAL people go to them with complaints about her. I attended this gym while I was interning in the area over the summer. The gym was clean, had all the equipment I needed, and the classes were fun and instructors personable. There was a mixup when I cancelled my membership when I moved, but the staff was extremely accommodating in getting things squared away. If Im ever back in the area, I will definitely join again.

I came in as a guest, and all I have to say is I should have listened to all the reviews on here about Karissa Dodson. It seems as though there have been many complaints about her and her nasty attitude/personality but yet all Golds Gym management will do is respond to your comment on here by saying we will address the issues with our staff and make sure it does not happen again. The management obviously does not seem to care, as Karissa Dodson is still working here. She is outrageously rude to members/customers and does not seem to care about anything as long as people sign up. She can often be seen just casually sitting in her office laughing with the other employees while members are visibly upset. I have never been to a more unprofessional gym. I know for a fact that my comment will receive a response from someone saying thank you for bringing this to our attention, we will address this issue with our staff immediately, but the issue itself likely will not be resolved, as Karissa Dodson will still be employed here treating members/guests in a rude, unprofessional manner. The gym itself is okay (it gets very overcrowded during rush hour), but the bathrooms smell absolutely horrible. Karissa Dodson, if you are reading this, you have lost another potential member because of your nasty attitude. Golds Gym management, if you are reading this, maybe it is time to find another General Manager. I simply refuse to settle for a nasty/negative environment because you all refuse to get rid of your nasty/rude General Manager. Its sad how many people have to complain on here, as well as Yelp, and still the management does absolutely NOTHING to change their staff. Karissa Dodson needs to be fired. Also, she looks no older than 21. Who allowed her to obtain this position within Golds Gym? It is completely unacceptable, and I will be looking at other gyms for membership. So I have been a member of this gym for 7 years and I show up this morning and I am asked to leave a collateral in order to use a squat pad because people have been stealing their stuff........Are u kidding me?? I have been to so many gyms and have never heard such a ridiculous statement...I went here for years without them getting new equipment . Now that they finally added some new stuff, I have to leave collateral for a pad....sounds to me like a risk every business owner takes, not one your member members who dont steal your stuff should have to care about. This is absolutely ridiculous...certainly thinking about cancelling my membership. I pay for a VIP membership every month just to leave collateral? If you are not a member yet, think about this....you are viewed as a thief before you even join the gym because this golds gym fairwood policy. Something to think about for sure.

In the end I did NOT sign up for a membership here. I read the reviews and was extremely disappointed so I took it further by actually visiting the location and I was even more disappointed. The prices were better but thats about it. I originally wanted to go to LA Fitness but their kid klub hours suck. I was hoping this golds gym would be the one for me but I was wrong. The facility was visibly DIRTY which is not only disgusting but a safety hazard. This is why I took one star off my rating. The other star was taken off because yep I happened to come across karissa. Her attitude was anything but friendly and lets just say if I see her outside of golds gym she can expect a reckoning. I also believe now after meeting her that shes the one constantly stating shes surprised to hear about the complaints on karissa under all these Google reviews. How are you still surprised months later?

The facility is clean, well organized, offers a variety of machines/spaces to get a diverse workout. Classes and instructors are terrific! Can be crowded after 4pm, but arent all gyms?Just beware - when you sign up for your membership, they will consistently reach out to you in an attempt to sign you up for a costly fitness program (they first offer you a free fitness assessment). They are friendly and supportive UNTIL you decline the program. After you politely decline the $700/month program, be prepared to be ignored altogether. Too bad...because otherwise, its a great gym!

The only reason I am a member of this gym is its location and convenience to my house. The staff is generally inattentive, the equipment is in poor condition and a general state of disrepair. Weights are never put where they belong, and the locker rooms are both dirty and run down with broken lockers, holes in the walls and display just a general lack of routine maintenance and cleaning. Avoid this gym at all costs.

WORST Golds location in MD! Definitely register at Crofton instead and give them the credit. I asked about the registration process and fees back when I wanted to sign up and the staff weren’t inviting at all and wouldn’t let me take a photo of the pricing brochure, they just said it was available online. So I went to Crofton and signed up there where they were WAY kinder and also offered a much better deal- $1 down and $21.99 a month for the gold level membership (which is usually $30+/mo)! The white brunette lady at the Bowie location (who I’m assuming is one of the managers) is also extremely rude and snobby, you’d think she was trying to drive customers away which I don’t understand. Avoid this location if you can! It’s smaller anyway w less equipment and classes.

I am a new member and find the gym dirty with old equipment. I am supposed to receive a free fitness assessment but learned that it is during the times that are convenient for them and not me (after 10am).Update: The equipment is still one and grungy but the manager of the trainers called me and met me at 6am and gave me a complementary session. It was great and I really wanted to sign up for personal training sessions but they offer small group sessions. Oh well.Ive decided to end my membership and the website said that I needed to do it in person at the gym. I went this morning and the staff person informed me that I can only end my contract during the weekdays and between the hours of 9am and 7pm and that is in my contract. Hmmmm, so, sign up anytime but to end it I have to leave work early. This confirms my decision.

I enjoy going to this gym because of the movie theatre. I can get a 45 minute workout on the treadmill and watch a good movie. There is also a section for women that I can workout without having to deal with the men although that would not be a problem.The reason for the 4 stars is that there is an older white woman at the counter during the evening hours that is so rude. I reported her because of her bad attitude. She is the evening counter manager and needs to learn to multitask and take a management class to learn how to treat customers.All in all I enjoy this gym.

Really good gym with nice staff. Plenty of good equipment. My only issue is with the CardioCinema. It is a great idea but the gym rarely shows cardio movies like Bourne, Bond, Girl with Dragon Tattoo, Captain Marvel, etc. They show alot of sad stories, drama, or Christian movies (not good for getting the heart rate up). I have seen The Fourth Kind played at least five times this year. More cardio movies please!

If I could give it a -10 stars I would. Horrible gym, poor customer service. Classes are overcapacity in the evening & poorly managed. Karissa Dodson (Manager) couldnt have been more rude. They are dishonest and misleading in the sign up process locking you into a contract while lying about the terms. Employees use foul & profane language to customers while behind the check in desk. HORRIBLE. I plan on taking my complaints up the chain of command.

When I joined Gold Gym I told the staff member that I can go to the PG Sports and Learning Center to work out for free because of my age but they do not have a hot sauna , Planet Fitness do not have a hot sauna nor does any other fitness center in the area have a hot sauna , I also have asthma and was advised by my MD that the hot air from the sauna helps my condition therefore the sauna was a major selling ploy . All this is to say that the sauna at Fairview is more broken then working and when you reported to the staff they seem do unconcerned. I will be taking this complaint further.

****I take my word back....I left a 5 star before, but leaving a 1 star now! After leaving this gym, cancelling my membership through a staff and moving from the area, they kept trying to charge my bank account. I kept calling in to remind them severally that I had cancelled, but was being told it was resolved.When I renewed my credit card after the former one they had got expired, they couldnt charge me again and I was shocked when collection contacted me, impacting my credit negatively. I eventually had to pay almost $100 for months I NEVER used the gym in order not to further damage my credit.I was most upset when I was trying to resolve the issue, despite being very polite the female manager over the phone, she was very much rude and wouldnt let me explain myself.She basically shut me down stating I either could pay them now or continue having my credit ruined... I recorded this call as evidence for posterity, in case they denied.I am really appalled to say the least and as a level 7 reviewer for Google will honestly say these guys can be dubious and Im beyond disappointed. Young adults please be weary of the Gold’s Gym in Bowie because you just may be taken advantage off like my 18 year old son. Yes Gold’s took advantage of a young teenage kid that was unclear of the contract terms. He thought he was signing up for a month before heading to college (yes a month we were teenagers once so I can relate at not being too bright) not a year long-term commitment. Not only do they have him on the hook for a yearlong contract they convinced him to sign up for the more expensive $29.99 plan opposed to the less expensive $9.99 plan (why should he pay $20 more? I know because he doesn’t know better and they took advantage again). Once the collection letters started coming in He went in and signed a cancellation letter. Despite signing the cancellation letter and paying the 3 months he owed (unfairly but I agreed to pay) even though he hadn’t been back since the initial day. I was told by the manager Tara that the cancellation letter would not be honoured and he could not cancel. He was on the hook for 12 months despite being away at school (Good luck with collecting the funds my student doesnt have a job). The Gold’s contract that I have clearly states that if you move over 15 miles away you should be able to cancel. Her response there is a gym 7 miles away from his school (I’m wondering will she provide transportation because he doesn’t have a car). I believe that they are so desperate for memberships they would do anything to get you to sign on the dotted line. And unfortunately for my naïve 18 year old he has learned that he can’t be so gullible and just sign anything. Im disappointed to learn that Gold’s has no compassion with their business and Im considering canceling my membership that I have had for almost 3 years.

Im actually planning on looking for another gym because this gym SUCKS.Machines always broken every 5 minutes, WIFI always down and WEIGHTS are never stacked up they are left all over the floor for me to trip. Also, the guys that workout there wanna use 5 machines at ONE TIME and I can never get a chance to use them. Also the constant yelling for no reason when working out. I told the manager that and he said They are not supposed to do that but CAN YOU FIX THE PROBLEM?!!ALSO NEVER PAPER TOWELS AND THE ONLY THING THEY CARE ABOUT IS TAKING YOUR MONEY. I even got attitude from Karissa when i asked her a question about the T-shirts.

Ive been to much better Golds Gyms but Ive also seen much worse. This one isnt that bad its just on the smaller side in my opinion. What they lack in size they make up and customer service working with the staff there is a really positive experience

Id outgrown my gym and decided that I needed a change. I walked into Golds in Bowie at around 8pm last Sunday to get a tour and if I liked it, Id sign up with them. Granted, it was not a weekday but when you run a business you should be prepared to conduct business for as long as youre open, right?Well, when I walked in, it was pretty empty. A girl was restocking a case in just in front of the desk. When she saw me, she resumed her place behind the counter and asked me how she could help me. I told her that I was looking for a new gym and wanted someone to show me around the place. If I liked it, I would sign up on the spot because I was definitely in need of a new gym!Thats when the bad customer service kicked in. Due to a lack of forethought and pro action on the part of the managers, the staff member immediately started to make excuses. In the most dismissive manner possible, she told me that I couldnt see the gym because the person who could do that just left. Confused, I asked her what she meant and she told me that there was no one there to show me around because everyone went home and shes not allowed to leave the front desk. It seemed highly unlikely that they would leave her alone in the place all by herself but when I asked whether I could just look at the equipment that they had (I would still be in sight) because I just needed to know if they had what I was looking for she told me that she couldnt even let me do that! After saying no to that, I finally asked her what her managers told her to do if a potential customer came in while they were gone and her answer was,Oh theyd tell me to tell you to come back on another day.Oh really?So theyd tell you to super inconvenience a potential customer by telling them that they needed to make yet another trip back to the club because they hadnt bothered to make sure that there was always someone on hand just in case someone wanted to sign up? Wow, I guess they have ALL of the customers they could possibly need then huh?So even though it made perfect sense that she could not leave the front desk unattended, it baffled me as to why she wasnt equipped with a better way to handle a potential customer when one came in! Also, when doing so, why didnt they have a less inconvenient policy in place - one that respected the time of their potential customers?I eventually signed with another gym and even though this Golds Gym lack of acceptable customer service and foresight barely warrants one star, I will give them 2 because they at least had decent parking - the parking lot had generous parking and was well lit and from what I could see from the front desk and some of the floor, it was relatively clean in appearance. Still, I cant help but think how many other potential customers theyve lost because they dont staff or train their staff to save a sale! Oh well.

General manager shows poor leadership skills and avoids addressing members that may have issues by deferring them to her employees. There are some good staff members and they seem to be revamping the staff at this location.

Management is horrible. Poor customer service by the manager Terisa herself. I decided to take my business elsewhere. I told her so, but she said she did not care. She was transfer from another gym to here and either she gets fired or loss customers because of her attitude.A word for Terisa, treat your customer well. They have the power to make or break your business. Well! the owners business, not yours.

Its alright. Filled with half-reppers and top heavy folk as usual. The staff has been good to me. The 2 complaints are lack of equipment and size. They only have one squat rack and 1 power cage. 3 benches and the barbell plates are scarce. They have 2 deadlift platforms, not best quality but they run classes for grandma in that area alot, so hard to get a serious deadlift session going. Decent if you live near by and dont want to commute to largo. Otherwise I think largo is nicer gym.

This gym has TERRIBLE customer service. They messed up my membership billing for about 3 months after I started my membership. I decided that I did not want to be apart of a gym that cant get my money straight but when I asked to cancel my membership they said no. I do understand that you need to follow certain procedures but their cancellation reasoning options are BS. I DONT WANT TO BE APART OF YOUR GYM should be a good enough reason to cancel my damn membership! Everyone there is rude, except one girl but I cant even remember her name. Golds Gym, Bowie...YOU NEED NEED MANAGEMENT! or some customer service training.

Point blank, this gym is clean, good crowd, has everything you need. I signed up with Alex, he was very professional, answered all my questions and still spots me in the gym from time to time to check on me and to take suggestions on improving this gym.
