We had an external hard drive that held our entire photo and video library and it was our ONLY copy. The drive started having issues and we brought it in for a diagnosis, only to find out that it had slowly been sustaining years of damage from overheat/overuse. Many files were inaccessible or unavailable to transfer to a different hard drive.Another computer repair place told us nothing could be done except to go through a data recovery company.At Universal computers, we talked with the manager, Dave, and he told us he would do what he could. He spend a lot of time working on it and was able to retrieve our library and transfer it onto a new drive. He did this for a much better price than the data recovery company would have charged. We are so happy to have our photos and videos!In addition, Dave went the extra mile by providing ongoing phone support when I have had questions since picking up our drive. I’ve needed help in knowing which type of drive to use as a second backup (learned our lesson on having more than one copy of something important), how to copy the library onto another device, and how to use the cloud as storage as well. He has been patient each time I’ve called and answered my questions both honestly and knowledgeable.I recommend Universal computers and wouldn’t hesitate to call them again. The owner, David, did a fantastic job of helping me recover my data. The pandemic had just started to affect our area and our laptop had stopped working and needed to be restored. However, I needed to recover most of the data before we could do the restore and our son needed our lap top for his virtual learning. Everything was explained and I was given a fair price. We will be going back the next time we need help with a computer and we will be recommending Universal Computers to our friends in the area.

THEY SCAM YOU!Most of these reviews are fake to start off with.Dave has deleted my previous review where I had gone on about him trying to scam me, also another 1 star review from a guy I knew has also disappeared. I went in with a new CPU installed and didnt know I had to update my BIOS and he said my motherboard was fried with an $80 diagnostic check. He was going to charge me $300 to not change my motherboard and just update BIOS. I know this because he said he was going to install the exact same motherboard and charge me $120 when you could buy the motherboard on Amazon for $70. I went and got my computer and he made me pay $80. Dave is a scammer and this place should be avoided.

Had a CPU/motherboard issue, and nowhere else in town had any Ryzen CPUs. This place researched my issue well, and fixed it masterfully. Great rate, with excellent phone service to boot. Would recommend this place to anybody. These people know what theyre doing.

Extremely helpful. I needed a wireless card in a pinch and when i arrived he brought out 5 different options that varied in price and performance and explained each of them in detail. Comparatively other shops i could only order what i needed with a 1-2 week wait. This business is a great example of why it is important to shop locally. Universal Computer really went out of their way to figure out my issues and uninstall Windows 7 and replace it with Windows 10. Super knowledgeable with alternatives to try and how to resolve the blocks in the way. Will go back with any issues in the future.

Five Stars! I had some issues with backing up all the data and files on my Mac. I was worried I had lost many files. Universal Computers went above and beyond. They replaced my hard drive and even had to buy special tools in order to get to my hard-drive, and didnt even charge me for the cost of the tools. These guys know what they are doing. My Mac is back in my hands in perfect condition. They also took time to educate me on proper security and virus protection best practices. Id recommend to anyone!!

UPDATE: Company contacted me and explained that there were some technical issues with the pricing system. Very respectful guy and handled it appropriately.PC parts from here are EXTREMELY overpriced. He wanted anywhere from $50 to $75 extra for the exact same parts online. I understand buying locally is going to cost a little bit more than buying online but when you charge $150 for an item that is $100 online WITH free shipping..... that’s a little bit overkill. Not to mention other local PC stores charge $120 for the same product.... I’m all for supporting local businesses but not when the business is trying to rip you off. I’ll definitely be taking my business elsewhere.

Dave at Universal Computers in Bountiful is great at what he does. He has worked to assist me with my school, family and business needs. He has provided us with both desk top and lap top computers. I came to Universal Computers in Bountiful after being told by another local place that the hard drive to my old laptop was dead and that I had lost all my data. I really needed my files because they were for my business. The people at Universal Computers were not only ABLE to get my data from my hard drive but the gentleman there spent quite a bit of time patiently educating me and helping me clean up my files on my computer. I loved my experience there. They really know what they are doing. They are fairly priced for what they do and you will walk away feeling like this place appreciates your business. I would recommend this great company to anyone who has any kind of computer need.

Have been doing business w/ these folks for a number of years now...the vagaries of computer viruses can be vexing and my rudimentary attempts to fix them along with broken hardware components have certainly been interesting...I have come to the conclusion it is far better to let the experts @ Universal Computers do it for me...that ole saw dont try this at home applies to fixing computers...Universal Computers is far more efficient, they warranty the work and until I get infected with the next go-around of viruses life is generally pretty good...you may want to give them a try...reasonable professionals just trying to keep the wheels of industry turning...

These guys are the best! My computer got a virus that destroyed my hard drive, but they didnt give up (when others would have) at getting to my home videos that were so precious to me!! To top it off, they granted me some extra time retrieve my other data because the holidays are fast approaching. It is devastating to lose your pictures and documents on your computer due to a virus. Universal computers spent weeks on the retrieval of my data. They were empathetic, understanding and great listeners. My pictures were probably 95% recovered and many of my documents as well. I would highly recommend them. I wont hesitate to return should computer problems arise in the future.

I had a massive virus attack on my computer. Also, I had messed up some computer settings. Universal Computers reviewed the problem and offered several solutions. They worked with me to provide the best solution within my budget. I will be considering an upgrade in the future and will defiantly purchase my next computer from them.

About 1.5 years ago, Dave (owner) is shady and was more interested in making an extra $100, despite taking advantage of a customer and risking negative publicity (yes Dave, this finally came back to bite you in the rear). The motherboard on my computer went bad and and initially refused to cover it under warranty. The wording in his policy was misleading and when he realized he was in the wrong- he refused to stand behind the policy. I was in a pinch so I paid his ridiculous fees (including the unauthorized work that someone went ahead and completed with out checking with me first).Additionally- this store will use hardware that is new in box but 1+ year old technology- putting more money in Daves pocket- at the expense of his customers. You are better off avoiding this place.

After trying many providers of computer tech support, we were delighted to discover UCS Universal Computers in Bountiful. Everyone claims to be an expert in networking, debugging and repair, but these guys really are. Owner David Manville stands behind all work performed by him and his staff. They fixed problems caused by previous providers, improved the performance of our small business network and provided reliable backup systems. They customize their services to fit our needs and budget, even providing after-hours service when necessary. In addition to utilizing their technical services, weve purchased new software and equipment from the Bountiful store. Their prices are right in line with other vendors, and the new items fit seamlessly into our system. Perhaps most important, unlike one-man home based providers, theyve made an investment in their business by operating multiple fixed retail locations. This promotes confidence that Universal Computers will be there when we need them.

Used a fixit stick on my laptop and it destroyed the boot menu took it a a different repair shop and they said it needed a new mother board didn’t sound right so I took it to Dave at universal and he was able to fix it hard ware was fine it was a soft ware problem

After nearly 2 weeks of removing viruses and other things, we were again ready to use our PCs. The Company was very good and helpful. I am old. These new fangled computer things have passed me by. However, they are essential for my small business. I trusted Dave and his friends at Universal Computers with my old system that had all of my business software, my accounting software and 10 years of other stuff that I felt was really important to me. I sat down with Dave and he very patiently helped me to figure out what I needed to upgrade both my hardware and software. I dropped off my old system on a Thursday afternoon and left town. Saturday morning I got a call that my new system was all ready to go, my software was upgraded, my data transferred, and all I needed to do was take it to my office, plug it in and I was all set. Well, with any new computer there is a learning curve for the owner. Windows 7 is a little different than Windows 98. After a couple of days of retraining myself, everything has worked perfectly. I had no down time at all in my business because of the switch over. And two months later, I still feel okay with calling or E mailing Universal and asking a dumb question. They always respond quickly in not-too-techincal language for me to understand.It is nice to find a business that treats their customers with such care.

I recently needed to buy my first laptop computer after retiring. I visited several retail stores and got so confused with the sales personnel that I finally visited Universal Computers of Bountiful, UT. They have serviced my Antec tower computer for several years and I’ve always felt they’ve done a good job at a reasonable price. I was also at the cross roads of upgrading from XP to Windows 7 or 8. I’d heard mixed stories about W8 so felt I’d do best to go with W7 on both my tower and a new laptop for now. They worked with me to get me into a Toshiba laptop that was still configured with W7. They also upgraded my tower to W7 and migrated all my files over. The conversion was very seamless with no problems. I’m very pleased with the one on one help I was given to help choose the laptop and then to also make this major migration without a hitch was just awesome. I wished I checked google before going to these guys for a Diagnosis on my PC. I had to pay $40 to pay this business to give me a Diagnosis, that I later found was a whole big lie. They Told me that it was my motherboard that was broken, but when I took it to some friends and students at Salt Lake Community College, theyve all told me that the motherboard is fine and the Processor was broken. having to pay over $100 in buying motherboards and shipping them back, because I thought they were broken, I went to them for a refund; not only did they refuse to take responsibility for lying to me and giving me my money back, they immediately started talking down on me and telling me that it was my fault.These guys should owe me over $200 for all the trouble they made me go through. Do not trust these SOBs, theyre business is a scam, and they are not nice to their customers

They charged me 3 times the appropriate price for two fans. After gaining their assurance it would work for my needs, I found out that they were DC fans, not AC, and they couldnt possibly work.When I went back and addressed the problem with them a month later, the owner told me he cant do anything about it. (Apparently he isnt capable of making business decisions). He stated that he never said it would work; he just sold me a part and said it might work. He only has a 7 day return policy, which is ridiculous even in a technology business.I have to hand it to him, he was smart enough to realize since I had bought the fans, I own them.Ill never go back there and will suggest to all my friends to go anywhere else.
