R.I.P. Earls Saw Shop (at least, the one Ive been going to for 15+ years). Needless to say, my recent experience there was not good. The mower did have significant work required and they did that, although it took a long time due to a part order, I was understanding about that because its well understood that the supply chain is messed up with the pandemic, but the blades were so dull when I took it in that the side of a bic pen would literally be the best comparison, I stressed to the person that gave me an estimate that sharpening the blades was a priority. When I called about the mower after 7 weeks and was told they were waiting for the air filter I accepted that, but at that point I was told that all the other work had been done, by the person that was doing the work. When I picked it up and took it home though, and used it for 5 minutes, it was clear I was bludgeoning rather than cutting grass. I sharpened them myself and lo and behold, grass was being actually cut. I called them and they admitted they hadnt sharpened the blades but the best they could do was to offer me a free sharpening in 6 months (I wanted some money back). But after this I dont want to take my equipment there anymore.

Been going to Earls Saw Shop for several years and I have had nothing but positive experiences. The counter help is very delightful, always cheerful and great customer relation skills. As far as the knowledge of the mechanics , positive there as well.I have read some of these reviews and it comes down to this, they are a small business and it is their busy time of year and of course people are not perfect and we all make mistakes. We need to understand that. I find a lot of these reviews to be because of personal issues , in which, we should keep separate.I WOULD recommend this business to others and encourage them to utilize their services. I have had family members go there and nothing but positive experiences as well. Stop picking on the small businesses and go about your day. If anything go pick on the big corporate businesses that take people for a ride and swallow your money and go home and sleep on silk bedding....WAY TO GO EARLS ! YOU GUYS ROCK! THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT SERVICE EVERY YEAR!

Stay away from these clowns. Bought a Stihl cylinder/ piston kit off ebay from them. They sent me the right cylinder but wrong piston. Acknowledged they made a mistake but wanted me to pay an additional $70 for the correct piston. They said that was making it right. Seriously?? Selling something that was supposed to have all the right parts, then telling a customer they can pay additional costs to have the correct parts is making it right?? No. Thats scamming people out of money. Long story short they finally coughed up $40 for a refund which does me no good. I still have incurred extra costs on the whole deal. Now i have buy the correct piston and still didnt get what i paid for from these clowns

I have never been treated so low in my life. The owner was rude and kept calling me a liar. She screamed at me and told me to not be rude, as if I was the one screaming. I picked up my husbands lawnmower and she was claiming that they had called twice to approve on the work for the mower. Well, the fact was we got ONE call to tell us it was ready! She called me a liar and told me I could easily delete the call log to make it look at my favor. She had a mechanic give me the mower, didnt test it and didnt even help me open the doors to take the mower out. I had my toddler (which I was carrying since she isnt a fan of big dogs which are all over the shop). I started crying and was so upset. She did tell me she was never going to service anything from me again... THE OWNER WAS RUDE. Shame on her to treat customers like garbage. SHAME on her for yelling at customers. DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP! At the end, the mechanic helped me load my husband mower. I had no clue what I was going to do. He did say to me dont let her ruin your day. I will not step foot into a shop where they treat their customers like garbage. I was very upset and tears fell down out of control. I havent been treated so badly at a so called- great service for 40 years place EVER.

Run the other way! This company has forever lost us as long-standing customers due to the way we were handled in our most recent repair. We have been taking our mower and other power equipment to Earls for YEARS. We brought our mower to Earls in the Spring of 2018 and asked for a full maintenance inspection, and repair of a hydraulic leak, etc that we knew we had. Yes, we gave approval for the repair that was done, but we were given to understand that the full maintenance inspection had already been completed, and that the approved repairs were all the mower needed to get it fully functioning. Instead, we were quoted a repair BEFORE the mower had been inspected, and then received a call that it needed another $3000 in services to make it run. Who on earth would wait for that kind of news until after they had quoted the customer for a repair? Is it any wonder we decided the mower wasn’t worth investing more money into? If we had known IN ADVANCE that our mower needed over $3,000 worth of work, the original approval would have NEVER been given. That was voiced by us at the time we were quoted the additional $3,000. Our decision to simply buy a new mower was perfectly logical, given that a new mower cost us well under the $3,000 quote from Earl’s.Earls systems are critically flawed if they think it is logical to quote and supposedly perform work BEFORE running a thorough analysis of the needs of the machine. No reasonable person would find that logical. To turn around and get downright nasty on the phone with our Office Manager, who had absolutely nothing to do with our decision to abandon the machine, is simply poor business. If Earls wanted to still be paid the $538 for a repair that should never have been completed, they should have communicated that kindly and promptly, not by yelling and accusing. I found by one quick search on Google and on the BBB website that many other people are having this same issue with Earl’s. Any business that thinks that is the proper way to communicate with their customers deserves the negative reviews they are getting.

Ive had only a few experiences with Earls, but each one was worst than the last. I had been told many times they were awful, but I had also been told they were the only game in town.Earls Saw Shop has possibly the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE Ive ever experienced. I called to have my Gravely Professional serviced, and gave the previous owners name as a reference. (They had last worked on the tractor for its previous owner, and the transmission then quit the first time I tried to use it). I had to call several times just to get someone who could actually help me set up pickup and delivery.Unfortunately, SHERRY is the one who finally answered my questions. We discussed the rate for pickup ($120), and she explained it would be the same price to have someone come to the house to look it over, as my problem was possibly user error. I then told her I would attempt to fix the issue on my own, and that I would call if I needed service. She told me to ask for SHERRY if I needed help in the future.Today, I received a call from Kerry stating that he needed an updated address for the tractor. When I called back, I was transferred to SHERRY, who demanded to know who owned the tractor, and proceeded to tell me she was upset with ME, because she just got my butt chewed off. When I began to explain that I received the tractor with the house I purchased from the previous owner, the line went dead. I promptly called her back, whereupon she said, ARE YOU READY TO LISTEN TO ME? I told her that I was simply answering her question, and yes, I was ready to hear why she was yelling at a customer. IM NOT YELLING. YOULL KNOW WHEN IM YELLING! I again said I was ready to listen (as she stated she couldnt get a word in before... due to me attempting to answer the question she asked). LOOK, DO YOU WANT US TO COME TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR MOWER? I replied no, and she hung up on me for the second time.If this is the way they treat past and potential customers, I know I will never again give them my business, and I will encourage others to go elsewhere, too.

Good experience. This is what a small engine shop is. Theres such a small % of people who have ever needed a saw or other device powered by a small engine (lawnmowers excluded). Of those, maybe 50% knew how to use it. Out of those 50% maybe 20% knew how to use it properly and out of those 20% maybe 1 in 10 knew how to work on it. Now could you imagine owning a shop and dealing with a population where the vast majority of people think that they know everything about it. If youre reading this...that probably means you...dont go in there expecting to know everything ahead of time. Shut your mouth, listen to what they tell you, and unfortunately thats going to cost you some money and cost you some time. Small engine shops are notoriously slow.

I wanted SO badly to support the local shop. I took my snow blower in to get fixed up after leaving the gas in over the summer.$75 just to look it over was excusable because it would come off the repair. Except the quote to replace the carburator was $350! A new snow blower is $700. I bought the $30 carb myself, watched a youtube how to, and have a clear driveway and an overwhelming sense of disappointment in these guys.Save yourself the $75 mistake and try the other local shop, Mcguckins, if you dont want to repair yourself.

Earls didnt accept responsibility for leaving the oil out of my Troy-Bilt Horse tiller even though they billed me for checking the oil. The engine seized up after I started to till my garden which was the first use of the machine upon picking it up from their shop. I returned it to Earls and I thank God that they were able to free up the engine. Nonetheless, the life of the engine due to their negligence is a crap-shoot. Their position is that the oil either leaked out or the engines burns a lot of oil. How can this be since there was no oil spot where it is stored nor in my conveyance. The machine wasnt used, so how could it burn oil? The ownership said it is my responsibility to check the oil every time I use the machine. Fine, I should have checked the oil before I loaded it from Earls shop, as well as the other work they did? A final word of caution: speak only in a monotone voice when speaking with SHERRY on the phone. There was other malfeasance that occurred but I am done with this now.R.E. Read Jimmy Yorks review.

Earls used to b my one stop shop for chainsaw needs. Unfortunately over the years Boulder appears to have tainted them because their labor costs are ridiculous and they’re always salty and act as those they’re being inconvenienced by your presence. The last time I took a saw in they charged me nearly half the price of the saw and I just took it out to run it and the kill switch is busted so I couldn’t turn it off once it was running. It’s been a couple months since I had it repaired—just hadn’t run it since then. I don’t bother taking it back because I know they’ll just charge me 60 bucks to look at it again. I gave two stars rather than 1 b/c it was a great shop once upon a time

Service skills are fine but WAY too expensive. Just to take something into the shop, they charge a flat $60 -- and then they add on from there. I had a chainsaw that didnt start. It was just due to bad gas. They drained the gas, put in new gas, replaced the air filter, and sharpened the chain. I picked it up and was certain the $60 would cover that. No -- they charged me an additional $22 shop fee. What? Isnt the $60 a shop fee. I wont return.

I brought a saw in to get checked out and serviced and went through to make sure it was good for what season. Use the saw about four times had some oil leaking out of it from somewhere. I brought it back to have them go through the saw again this was about three weeks ago I purchased a new saw and left the old one. They had it for 10 days called me and said they left it on their bench for three days and Nothing was leaking out. I took it home and within one day the paper that I had it sitting on was covered in oil. I bring the saw back today and he tells me there’s issue with the fuel cap. He said all he could do was look at it again I don’t really feel comfortable with that since what he has told me so far was not the truth. I offered to take it to another shop and have him pay for it he refused. I would not recommend the shop for service to anyone!!!!

I was shopping recently for fuel and had my wife and five year old son with me. The shop-keeper had a large rottweiler in the shop who was, while friendly, pushing my son around and scaring him. When I very politely suggested she not keep a large police dog in a public shopping space, she got very angry and told me never to come back! While I try to shop local and support smaller businesses, I cant shop somewhere where the customers safety concerns are secondary to the shopkeepers pets. Didnt seem right.I brought in a lightly used Stihl Farm Boss that I had trouble starting. Saw had previously worked fine and never been abused or neglected. Brought the saw into the shop to get it going.First recommendation was $130. I thought that was pretty steep for just getting the saw to start up... Turns out its $65 for that (the thing I asked for in the first place). Why did I have to ask twice for the same thing? Strike 1, lack of transparency and communicating my options.Couple days later I get a call that it wouldnt start and Im looking at the $130. I should have stopped there but I authorized it.3 weeks later I stopped in the shop to see what the delay was, but the work has still not been done. They acknowledged the error and got to work on it that day. Strike 2, not organized. At this point the recommendation was a new carburator, fuel line, new fuel pump, fuel filter, new spark plug, . Going to cost nearly $300. Basically Im being told that multiple failures have simultaneously occurred to explain why the saw wont start. New saw is about $450.At this point Im pretty skeptical because the plug was sparking fine when I dropped it off (Id already checked that). Strike 3, recommending excessive parts and labor. Granted, replacing a spark plug is a minor recommendation but I did not feel right about the business at this point, my trust had been lost.Looks like Im out $130 and will just clean the carb myself.

We have been doing business with Earls Saw Shop for over 30 years. I brought my lawn mower (Toro commercial grade) in last fall and they sold me a gas tank. I put the gas tank on myself. However, after I did my lawn mower was experiencing other issues. I took it in last fall (2012) and they said nothing was wrong with it. I brought it back home and it still did not function correctly. It would start, blow black smoke out and then cease up. I travel for a living so I made other arrangements for my lawn for the year. This spring (2013) I tried the lawn mower again (wishful thinking, perhaps) and it did exactly the same thing. I took it to Earls and Nick could not find my record for the tank NOR could they find the multiple (30 years worth) records which I thought was unusual. I told him it was not a big deal and just to create a new record for me. I explicitly said they did NOT service my lawn mower so I just wanted them to tell me what was wrong and call me. He said they could do that the next day and give me a call. They demanded a $50.00 deposit which is NON-REFUNDABLE! By the next day at the end of business, I had not received a call so I called them. I talked to whom I THINK was the owners wife. She argued with me THREE times about how I should have brought the mower back last fall. I told her THREE times that it had nothing to do with what they did because they did NOT do anything to be warrantied and I ONLY wanted them to figure out what was wrong. I explicitly told her I was not expecting a warranty and was confused on why she was so rude to me. I told her that this was not customer service that I expect. She rudely told me to come pick up my equipment. I did and I talked to the owner who was still under the impression that there was this Warranty Issue. I told him the story but he would not listen to it and blew me off completely. If this is how this shop treats 30 year old customers, I want nothing to do with them. I took my mower to a company in Boulder that has been in business longer than Earls. However, before I left one of the employees helped me put the mower into my SUV. He apologized for my unpleasant experience and said he hoped we would continue to use the shop. I told him the relationship had been severed (especially with the male owners response just then). I told the employee how rude the woman was to me the day before and he said that the woman is rude and that she is always rude. Her own employees see this. They better wise up. There are too many companies wanting business. I will be telling everyone I talk to about this horrible experience. We have been in Boulder for 45 years and we do a LOT of business with a LOT of companies but never again with this one. Word of mouth can be a very good thing, however, this will be a very bad thing for them.

I have done business with Earls saw shop for years, however never had an experience quite like the one with the owners wife SHERRY. I purchased 2 used lawn mowers this spring after being talked into them last fall. I was told that they go through the mowers, and make sure theyre in good working condition. I blieved them. This spring I called, and they were ready to be picked up. However, a few months later, one of them had issues with the self propallsion. We took it in, and after a couple days, I received a call stating that the bearings were shot, and that there was going to need $200 in work done to it.I was quite frustrated, and explained that I had just purchased the mower 3 months ago. I was then told that they do not warranty these items because they were used. I told the repair man that I didnt want to go ahead, and that Id be better off buying a new one. Then he said that he still had to keep my deposit, and I said....Of course you do..... He sensed that I was upset, and he actually apologized and said that it was the companies policy. I told him that I understood. I asked him what the owners name was, and he said John. I asked if he could have John call me back when he got the chance. As a business man, I was going to talk about my situation, and explain to him how frustrated I was with what had happened. I was going to see if he might give me a discount if I were to purchase a new mower from them. Or at least that was my intentions....Minutes later, I received a call from someone Named SHERRY. When I answered the call, I told her that I was expecting a call from someone named John. She said, that now i was talking to her, and asked what my problem was. I explained the situation, and she became rude and short with me. She started stating their policies. Although I agreed with her, she told me i was being rude. When I questioned her, she hung up on me. I called back shortly after. I spoke with SHERRY again and this time she was twice as rude. I told her that I had purchased 2 mowers, and4 new weedeaters from them in the past year, and I guess I wouldnt do business with them any longer unless she wanted to have a professional conversation. She said but the mower isnt under warranty. I said that I understood that, and she hung up on me again. I called back and was told that Sherry wouldnt speak to me. I then asked if I could have john call me back when he had a moment. The guy on the phone said that I had to speak to sherry. I said that she wont talk to me, so can I please leave a message for John to call me back. He asked me to call back and ask for Sherry tomorrow. It is my personal choice to use local businesses in my community in order to support their businesses, and their livelyhoods. I actually dont care that it costs more money to support local business. In this case however, I will be taking all of my future business, against my will to the Home Depot. It is a shame that Owners such a s SHERRY, treat their return customers like this.In my past experiences, the employees of Earls have been curtious, kind, and professional. We have been taking our machines there for years, as well as buying all of our Mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, trimmers, blowers, and snowblowers. We have purchased these items under many company names because we manage properties. It is a shame that this is how they treat their return customers.... Whats more of a shame is that Earls is the only game in town. Theres no where else to go...
