First off this place is such an awesome place to go to get in a little normalcy in this wild world right now. I was met by a woman named Jennilee who was supremely helpful in getting us everything our family needed. She was super professional and knew her stuff. I was so happy to see that they enforce mask wearing inside as I’m a high risk person. Everything was clean and felt very safe especially with everything going on right now. This will definitely be our new go to for our snowboard vacations!! So happy we went!

This might be my first google review but 1st Tracks Ski Shop is the best in Boone! If I could give this place a 10 star review I would! James was so kind and caring. I was having a rough day and I had personally made a mistake purchasing an older snowboard *not from them*. He was so knowledgable and truly there to help in any way! All of the staff were so attentive and personable. They had great technology to get you fitted properly and also had a wide selection. Good honest people. Thank you again James!

I stopped in to buy my kids some mittens and base layers for skiing. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were quite reasonable. Highly recommend if you need to pick up some last minute items.

James is a wonderful person. He let us know that lift tickets were sold out before we rented equipment. He has a great knowledge about snowboards and spend an hour helping my son find the perfect snowboard and bindings. Very passionate and his job. We will come back here again for sure.Thanks James.

The first time we walked in during nighttime hours and had a good experience with a kind employee letting us know that since we would be night skating the following day, to return at 0800 in the morning to be sure they do not sell out of skis. The next morning, we wake our kids and drive everyone over at 0800. We walk in and immediately upon entering, a woman scolds my husband who was placing his mask on his face “you are to put your mask on before you enter the store.” Not “Hi welcome in, next time try to have your mask on before entering.” She was immediately rude and my husband finished putting his mask on while the remaining 6 of us had ours on. She asked what we we’re looking for in the store today and I stated that we were in to rent skis. Her reply was “we are all sold out.” I was shocked and explained that we were told the night before specifically to come in to avoid this happening. She again said they were sold out. I asked what time we could return to try again since we would be night skiing and only needed the equipment for a half day. This woman had the audacity to reply “I don’t know I cannot predict the future.” I recommend the owners and management of this business self reflect and maybe take some training in customer service, tact, or basic common manners. Or if your employees are rude and the reviews are constantly reflective of that - hire new people. Pay attention to the theme of your reviews! I wish I did before coming in to this business.

Best place for rentals and equipment in the area! Staff was super welcoming and helpful (especially james), the rentals are cheaper than on the mountains, and their equipment prices are fair to say the least. If you have any questions or its your first time, just ask one of them for help and youll get it. I have a hard time believing any of the poor reviews on here because we were blown away. Enough to come back 4 times within a week and keep on buying things.

I came in to look at a new pair of ski boots since I had been using gender neutral ones. The customer service I received was fantastic and I was fitted for a new boot. The man who helped me made sure to listen to all of the issues I’ve been having (too high of a boot on my calf) and pointed me in the right direction. I ended up with a pair of women’s Nordica Belle 85 boots and I cannot wait to use them on my upcoming trip to Vail! If you need ski equipment this place definitely has everything you’re looking for as well as plenty of options.

Awesome place to pick up gear in the area around Boone to hit slopes in North Carolina. The folks here were very very nice and great with setting up the kids!

We went in to repair our bindings on one of our snow boards and they were super helpful! They had what we needed and we were in and out in 10 minutes! Super helpful!

Great experience. Very friendly knowledegible people. Great rates and very accomodating to last minute repairs. We will come here every time we go to Boone, which will be often ,now that my daughter will be a freshman.

Online reservation system is mostly pointless. Reserved skis online and learned, at 8pm the day before we ski, that it’s not really a reservation. The system is really just a heads up that you may be coming so they have info for a quicker checkout but it doesn’t guarantee skis.

I have such appreciation for the staff and owner making us feel safe on our trip. Traveling during a pandemic is already a risk enough but thank god to have sensible owners and staff who have spectacular covid guidelines in place 🙏🏼 Y’all are awesome and thank you for keeping people safe!!

I HIGHLY dont recommend this place to anyone. We were told by a lady that we would get our ski gear if we went to their store at 8:00 am, so we went and were told all the skis were sold out even though we were guaranteed skis. We were also greeted by a lady with short brown hair that had a horrible attitude and told us that she didnt know anything and that she couldnt predict the future after we asked her when a good time would be to come back. I am very upset with how things were handled in that store.

Will NEVER go back to this place again. People was VERY unprofessional and rude. We had drove over and hour to boone and stopped in to spend HUNDREDS of dollars and we had our 5 KIDS with us and would not let us shop unless THE KIDS had masks on which is NOT a NC mandate for KIDS to wear masks and then the girl made a comment that they didnt need our money!! Now is that a way to treat CUSTOMERS and ESPECIALLY KIDS!! I would HIGHLY recommend RECESS right next door as they was VERY respectful and didnt make the KIDS have to suffer with a mask on.

I love supporting local but I’ve had two very bad experiences here and will not go back. Both times I tried to talk to the manager about it and both times I was talked down to like I was incompetent. Don’t waste your time here!

This place is ok for renting your equipment, is little cheaper than actually going to the resorts and getting them there. One or two dollars.3 stars for price and friedliness staff.... the other 2 taken were for the fact that we were told to add 2 a second day just in case and the day we tried te equipment my wife hurt herself (not due to equipment defective) my youngest daughter could not do it and I just did not wanted to leave them alone while the rest had fun. So I decided to return for a refund just FOR THE SECOND DAY and they said NO REFUND, ONLY RAINCHECKS for another time when we know we will not be back here at least for 3 or more years who knows.... It should be rent for a day keep until you need pay what you use. So if you go here, pay for the day and if you need more days call and let them know.

If you go to Appalachian mountain, you have to rent your equipment here, easy, quick, great service. Avoid the lanes on Appalachian.

My wife and I live in Boone and decided that we needed to dust off the old skis for the coming winter and get out on the slopes. Our skis are... lets just say if they were people, they would be old enough to drink alcohol. We have taken exceptional care of them but knew that they needed to be checked out along with our equally old ski boots. We have driven by 1st Tracks Ski & Snowboard hundreds of times but had never stopped in. After checking the inter-web it seemed that they had excellent reviews and figured wed give them a shot, rather than going slope side.Upon entering we were immediately met by Jenni who welcomed us like this; hello friend. Now, I cant say that Ive ever been so quickly put at ease. Especially entering a specialty store and knowing so little about modern advances in the sport. Jenni is delightfully warm, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about the gear. We then met with John (her husband) who is the master boot fitter wizard. John discussed the condition of our old gear and was willing to make necessary adjustments and tuning to make that work. But he also explained the advancements of ski gear in the last 25 years and the piece of mind knowing that our equipment was safe. John measured our feet and checked our insteps and we tried on a couple of pairs of boots. John knows the equipment so well that he knew what would fit/work and what would not. Jenni and John were always conscious of our budget and applied zero pressure and even told us that we could take our time and think about it because it was a big decision. We went in there thinking we just needed a tune up and boot fitting/adjustment but were now looking at buying new skis and boots.After a short conversation my wife and I decided to make the purchase. The new boots felt incredibly wonderful and the liners were so fluffy and not packed in like our old ones. The skis are gorgeous and have the modern safety and performance enhancements that come with another 20+ years of development. We werent oversold at all but felt we bought quality products that met our needs and budget. John easily spent over 2 hours with us patiently explaining everything and answering every question. We felt like we had made new friends and bought some quality sports gear in the process that was an excellent value as well.While we were making our decision to buy, I couldnt help but notice the kindness and attention that John and Jenni paid to every single customer that came into the store. Whether the customer was making a big purchase, small purchase, or no purchase at all. They truly are customer service driven and are just kind people who know their stuff. So if youre in the market to buy or rent ski or snowboard gear or buy cold weather gear (jackets, gloves, hats) give 1st Tracks a look. Youll most certainly be glad that you did.Update: I called the shop later and spoke to Eric in reference to the best way to store our new skis. He was very patient and explained his own system for caring for his own skis and boots. What a great place!

It was my first time snowboarding and my friend recommended this place to me! Everything she said about them was true! My boyfriend and I arrived here to get our rentals and the guys did it in an efficient and organized manner. They knew what they were doing and did well in helping us with our equipment. We got two snowboards, two pairs of boots, two bibs, and one jacket for a decent price. He gave us some leeway on return time too. These dudes are awesome! I would definitely come to rent here again. The experience was quick and effortless.

Really awesome place. The staff was super knowledgeable and helped me pick out the gear I needed. I went in to buy a pair of boots and they spent a considerable amount of time with me measuring my feet, trying different boots, and explaining the differences in fit. Both the employees really knew what they were talking about and Im really happy with my purchase. Ill for sure be coming back and also referring my friends here.

1st Tracks in AMAZING! The employees were extremely nice and helpful, my husband even scored an awesome BURTON hoodie (RIP Burton) at a very reasonable price, I cant stress this enough..THE SKIS AND SNOWBOARDS ARE EXCELLENT QUALITY!! We have traveled several times to Arapahoe Basin and I am sure that I went cheap on the ski rentals. Here the difference in price to upgrade is so very small that of course we said yes and WOW, IT WAS WORTH IT! We did not have 1 single issue with our equipment and when we came to return it, that employee is the real MVP! Thank you 1st Tracks! We are absolutely coming back to you the next visit to Banner Elk/Boone North Carolina!

1.5 stars. Don’t mount your skis here. If you want to ski park and want center mounted skis this a not a good place to go.

It was it first time skiing and the lady and gentleman at the rental counter helped us out and they were very nice and friendly. They provided great customer service and walked us thru the options and gave recommendations as needed for first-timers. I would definitely come back to rent here again the next time I am in Boone. I definitely recommend this place. Great service, friendly staff and well-versed in the equipment.

SHOP ELSEWHERE !!!They rented my 180 lb son girls skis rated for 125lbs. He broke a ski first run and had to rent another pair on the.mountain. The young 20yr old manager at 1st tracks threaten to charge us $450 for damage and would not credit the rental for their own mistake.SHOP ELSEWHERE!!!!

Awesome place to rent snowboarding gear! Quality equipment and the staff was extremely helpful. My son loved his board and jacket. Pricing is excellent as well. Skip waiting in line to rent equipment at the Ski Resort. Renting here was far more efficient.

Like everyone says, these guys (and girl) are awesome. Made my son and me feel like regulars in the shop. They took really good care of us. Plus they open at 8am which made it easy for us to get what we needed and be at the slopes by 9am.

Had everything we needed. Good prices and help here. We had a party of 7 everyone got the proper equipment we needed. We always use them once a year on our vacation.

Great place and great staff. Rented 4 skis and 1 board plus equipment for 5 people. I ended up buying ski boots for myself and the staff was awesome about working with me. They took their time with fitting me to make sure boots were a custom fit. Any and all problems were met with personally by the staff and adjusted on the spot. I will recommend this place to everyone. They really went above and beyond with helping me and my family. Thanks for making my familys vacation a hit!

Awesome prices with even better help. Logan was super helpful and attentative to our needs. Not to mention he was hilarious which is always a plus. I was definitely not easy to help as a first time skier and he was very patient and made sure that I got everything I needed. I would 100% go back and recommend to a friend!

This has been my first ski shop for me and my family. From the start walking in the door, warm and welcoming greeting. Never pushy, Just a sincere want to help the customer get what they need, not what they want to push. And then the rental department was just as supportive!!

Great experience and customer service! I brought my board in to get waxed and tuned up for the beginning of the season. James helped immediately and had my board turned around in under an hour! Great job on the board, customer service was friendly and quick! I highly recommend 1st tracks!

This store is awesome! Everyone who works there is really chill and knowledgeable about skiing and snowboarding. We spend about and hour and a half just ha gong out talking to James about anything and learned a lot. We renters boards and ended up buying in the end but the rental prices is really cheap and GET THE $2 A DAY PROTECTION!!

Rented skis from first tracks. I paid for the insurance and was told it covered everything! When my skis were stolen from the mountain the story changed. They charged me $266 for the skis that were old and in poor condition! They could not show proof of how much they were worth! They would not even wait until the mountain closed to charge my card. They charged me immediately! I asked for them to wait to see if someone returned them but they would not wait. Horrible customer service. I would not recommend renting from first tracks!

We decided to rent skis here to save time renting on the slopes. That was a big mistake!! They quickly took our money (and they have a No Refund policy). Then I realized how slow it was going to be. It took two hours to rent skis. I used to complain about waiting 30 minutes to rent skis at the slopes...never again! We skied at Sugar Mountain. There are about six rental places right before the entrance to Sugar Mountain. Go there.

Bad management, bad customer service-depending on who you get. Younger dudes were great the first time next time we went there was a not-so-pleasant woman that charged us a full second day for only 2 hrs when they didnt do that last time. I placed a rental reservation online for my family a week before we got into town to ski Sugar mtn this weekend. It took me about 10-15 minutes, but I thought it would be worth it to save time.What should have been a 10 minute pick up process turned into over an hour. They said that they received my reservation, but whoever was in charge of them likes to sleep in on Saturdays and we would have to complete all of the paperwork all over again. If that wasnt enough, my daughters bindings werent set correctly and needed to be adjusted.Save yourself the aggravation and learn from my mistake... rent from Alpine or at the mountain and avoid this place.

Rented equipment from this during valentines day weekend 2015. This was our first skiing experience, and we had no idea what to rent. We went there, got fitted, etc. For my daughter they gave her adult skiis (even though she is only 9) and we didnt know any better. She struggled all weekend, and we even told the company about it, and they simply said we were doing something wrong. When we went to return the skis, they were very surprised we were given the wrong skiis. Equipment was old, didnt fit well, and this ruined her first experience. Just rent on the mountain, thats easier and they will give you the right equipment.

TERRIBLE. There were only 3 workers at the time. It took 2 HOURS to get our skis for the next day. We came early to not have to get skis at the slope, but that was the opposite. Save your time and go to another place or get the skis at the resort.
