Okay, so the good thing about this place is that it is fully furnished and all utilities are included that is all a plus. Now the reason I give it a 2 star is because of Karen aka Sharon. Her professionalism is very questionable. She speaks to people like theyre dumb. She is not helpful when it comes to your well being. Also, please make sure if you decide to move into this complex CLEAN all of the furniture you will be using! Dont be surprised if there is a ton a of mold at the windows. Yes, mold. I honestly do not think they actually make sure the apartment is actually cleaned before letting someone else stay there. Maintenance is okay. No you cannot decorate nor drink outside of your place. Although that is the rule, its wack because simply you pay to live there. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Anyways, not saying Highlands is the worst but just be prepared to feel certain vibes from certain people that work in the main office.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The front desk staff (with the exception of this one younger brunette woman), is downright awful. They will find anything to fine you with. DO NOT LIVE HERE. The rules are insane. The parking rules are the worst, especially for visitor parking. They do not know how to talk to their residents with respect. They’ll make a few small exceptions for you (which are so small, you’d assume it would just be the norm with which they run things), so when it comes to you complaining, they can hold it over your head. They barely clean anything so when they make you move out for 3 weeks to β€œpaint and clean” just know it’s a lie.

Customer service is extremely poor. These are stone cold, not helpful AT ALL whatsoever. You would think they would be lenient about the lease process during a pandemic, but they are not. The definition of a horrible leasing and customer service experience. Do not live here.

This is the most unprofessional apartment complex I have EVER dealt with. Their application process is so disorganized, considering they are one of the first picks for off-campus housing. Not to mention the applications start in February after all other apartments have been signed for leases. The ladies working in the front office are completely rude and disrespectful. During this entire process they failed to answer the phone even when I finally got through, they wouldnt answer the phone. I had called all morning even before they opened but yet they still filled up. I am highly disappointed in their lack of customer service.

I love living at University Highlands! The maintenance staff is very quick to any requests I have. The apartments come furnished, which makes it so easy for move in/out. The rent is all inclusive, so I’ve never had to pay more than what I signed for. The clubhouse is very nice and has all I need. The lady in the front office, Debbie is so nice and funny!

Great place to live while in college! There are rules to follow but they are there for a reason and my apartment never had an issue with the rules, just be sure to fully read your lease so you are aware! Visitor parking is tough on the weekends but you can work around it by having your guest(s) beep over or you pick them up. Maintenance is so quick to answer your request! Best deal in town!

The reviews I’m seeing here are pretty consistent with the truth. The apartment in itself is fine, however if you have to deal with the office. Good luck. If you go during the daytime hours you are subject to a β€œwhat are you doing here β€œ sort of experience rather than a β€œhow can I help you” sort of experience. If you go in the evening there either won’t be anyone there at all or they are on the phone/ talking to their roommate about the weekly drama. Extremely annoying and unprofessional.

If I could give a 0 I would. University highlands is by far the WORST apartment complex I have EVER lived in. If you want friends and family to visit, better tell them to be prepared for a home as the visitor lot is at the EDGE of the complex. Dont decorate, leave bikes, or set anything outside your apartment for any amount of time because they WILL fine you. The management in this establishment is not for for their jobs and maintenance either. I had to file a POLICE REPORT about someone in maintenance in my window taking pictures while I wasnt dressed and nothing was done about it. This place is not for to be lived in.

As a parent, have had a good experience. Whenever I call my questions have been answered clearly and efficiently. I am not a helicopter mom, more of a tandem bike mom. But, moving out is not pleasant. Next year he will stay in same apt so it wont be as much of a headache. Overall, they are reasonable and whenever I hear a complaint I ask for more of the story and usually ending up siding with management. It is a life step to being on their own, not a 5 star hotel that caters to you !!

My roommates and I called to make an appointment to get an apartment here the day appointments opened. Not only was it impossible to get someone to answer, as the lines were constantly busy, but by the time we finally got through, we were given a later appointment, but we were not told that this later appointment meant we had a smaller chance of getting an apartment. As we were getting closer to the day of the appointment, we called to clarify a few things, including if we were guaranteed an apartment. We were told that yes, the appointment meant that we had an apartment locked down as long as all paperwork and everything was ready to go at that time. Other groups that I knew that were planning on living there too had the same experience, so we all thought that we were guaranteed a spot. However, after hearing a rumor that there wouldnt be enough spots for everyone, we called again to confirm, at which point we were told that the appointment did not guarantee us an apartment, and that there was a slim chance that there would even be any single rooms left for us at the time of our appointment, let alone the 4 bedroom unit that we had been promised. On the day of the appointment, we got there an hour early, but were told as we walked in that there were no female units left and that we would have to find housing elsewhere. While the apartments themselves seemed nice, the communication from this organization was severely lacking, and the misinformation they gave us led us to give up all other apartments we had applied to.

Lived here for 2 years and has been a good place to live. Anyone who tells you that this is the worst place to live in Boone has not actually been to some of the worst places in Boone. The parking situation for guests is much to be desired, but you really just need to plan ahead. The maintenance guys are awesome and are quick to show up when there is an emergency. There are strict rules, read your lease and follow the rules and you will be fine. They new beds and couches in the apartment I lived in are very nice. Bathrooms can be very bare depending on the unit, just buy a plastic shelf to store and put bathroom items. Overall it is fairly quiet and decent place to live.

I just moved in this month. The maintenance response is excellent. I found some mildew on the ceiling in my bathroom that my roommates didnt know about. I submitted a request on the University Highlands website to come in and fix it, and within an hour they had been in and taken care of it. The gym is basic: a couple weights, a basic weight machine, and some cardio machines. The living room is very spacious, and the rent includes all the fees for the month. I cant wait for the hot tub to open.

If I could put 0 stars I would. University Highlands will make sure they find anything and I mean ANYTHING wrong so you wont get your deposit back. I left scotch tape up in a window and I got fined $40. I cleaned the entire place bottom to top but left oh gosh tape in the window! I got 4 speeding tickets by Ron Branch for going 15mph in the parking lot. Also multiple warnings for having a wreath up on the door for Christmas. This place has no parking for parents/friends. AND WILL TOW. My car got hit in the parking lot while it was parked and they did nothing about it! no cameras or anything. Maintenance does not come and fix anything and they are very rude and unfriendly when you come into the office. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE TRYING TO LIVE HERE FOR APPALACHIAN STUDENTS. Dear Parents, spend the money better by going to the legends or mountaineer village, this place rips you off and your kids will be fully upset all the time. My mom got towed and when we told them, they did nothing but say, you shouldve parked in visitor, she was helping me move out and she had her flashers on... they are crooks!

It ain’t the ritz but I have had absolutely no problems with the management so farThe good:Fully furnishedCheaper than most similar apartments in the areaBuses run regularly to campus so there’s no need to get an App State parking passSeem to be built well even though they are older than some others in the areaThe bad:If you end up with a wheelchair accessible unit like I did then the bathroom will not have any cabinets just a wall mount sink (think Burger King bathroom from the 90s) and the kitchen cabinets will be mostly open space on the bottom instead of actual doors and drawers (we have to get inventive sometimes to fit everything)The bathroom doors don’t lock and mine barely latches and sometimes will decide to pop open for no reasonThe windows are very drafty and have a strange mildew like substance all over themIf you park where you’re not supposed to THEY WILL BOOT YOUI know the bad seems to outweigh the good when written out like this but if I had to go back I don’t know that I would go anywhere else. It’s nothing fancy but you WON’T find anything better that is fully furnished for this price. As long as you do your part and follow the rules (which are not that bad) you’ll be fine. Most negatives are pretty easy to live with and the other units I’ve been in seem nicer than mine so it really just depends where you get placed. If you’re looking for a decent place to live in college and don’t care much about what it looks like this is your place. It may not be pretty but it works.

Moved in with a huge hole burnt into my carpet. They ignored me for weeks. Had my car towed with my tag in the window. Took a picture of it sitting at the tow yard with the tag to the front staff to show them it was towed falsely and they told me to deal with it. Guest parking is always full... I could go on...

The front desk is extremely unhelpful. The parking is ridiculous. They dont do anything about people taking up three parking spots with bad parking. They also decided that instead of waiting one week for classes to be over they decided to do construction at 8 am during finals week. Overall the worst living experience Ive had and way too pricey for the hassle that comes with living here.

Living here was a terrible experience. To start, I was sold a handicapped unit, and wasnt told about it until move-in day. There were no counters, drawers, or cabinets in the bathroom, just a tiny sink. Management was (as always) unapologetic and rude, and even charged us later for a shelf we had taped up in the bathroom. They will charge you ridiculous fees for minuscule damages (thumb tac holes, small paint scratches, etc). Youll be treated like a second class citizen, not a tenant paying them rent (which is also far too high for what you get). I recommend avoiding living here if at all possible.

One of the worst management situations I have ever seen. Had a car towed from the guest lot without warning and they claimed they are not obligated to warn you at all. The font desk lady was extremely unhelpful and unprofessional. She is rude and had an attitude the entire time we were trying to find out why the car had been towed. They come up with maintenance excuses about every other week so they can be nosey and enter your apartment. The rules are more strict than living in a dorm room even though you are paying good money for your apartment. Do not live here! Not worth the money and stress.

If you want to live at the most mediocre student housing complex, go to the highlands. Everything screams mediocrity. If you want to spend just a bit more for an excellent student living experience, go to Mountaineer Village, where parking is not limited and they treat you like a paying customer, not a helpless student at the mercy of an apathetic poorly rated University owned Management group. They genoursly go through a nonsensical lock changing process every August, which may involve locking you in your apartment without your knowledge as they switch around everyones locks. The employees have a bad attitude. At mountaineer village, they often learn residents names. At the highlands, I have seen them ask current residents are you moving in? Um no, Ive been here all year. Shout-out to government Enterprise once again for creating another pathetic institution. I also warn against certain other rental agencies in Boone which have a bad reputation, like the Winkler association.

University Highlands apartment complex is by far the WORST renting experience I have ever had while attending school here in Boone. The only positive this place has going for them is their location and AppalCart schedule. The negative(s) of this place are as follows:1.) They basically want dead people living in their apartments. If you literally have more than four people in your living room, you can expect to get a knock on the door from security.2.) Plan on getting lots of warning notes. They will leave an ANNOYING note about anything and everything as often as possible. You get used to not even reading them before you throw them in the garbage.3.) In the winter, you can expect the sidewalks to be covered in snow and ice with no sign of maybe getting their hires to do a little extra work for the convenience of their renters. I busted my a$$ more than once people.4.) The management are just general assholes. Just unfriendly, and only care about getting your money or your parents.5.) Dont plan on getting your whole security deposit back. Highlands likes to charge $120 for some paint peeled off the wall. (Ridiculous)Overall, I would probably rather live in a box on the side of Hwy 105 where I could not feel like a restricted hamster in an expensive cage. BUT, if you are looking for more than that, Village of Meadowview is a great place to rent from. Friendly, moderately priced, great view, and overall acceptance of COLLEGE STUDENTS.

This place is worse than living in a dorm and enforces stricter rules. You will receive warnings posted on your door for just about everything, including exceeding the 10mph speed limit, putting a decorative pumpkin on your porch, and just about any other ridiculous reason you can think of. Additionally, the apartments themselves are disgusting, small, and overpriced. I live in a 4 bedroom and each of us pays nearly $500 a month for a cheaply built, crappy apartment where things break every other day. Also the rental furniture you are required to use with the apartment looks about 20 years old and is completely unsanitary. They clearly repainted the walls the summer I before I moved in and it was done quite carelessly as there are white paint splatters all over the carpet, furniture, and bathroom mirrors. The parking situation is a nightmare and you can pretty much guarantee there will be no guest parking when you need it. Really would not recommend living here it has been an awful experience.

I was a transfer student and lived here for 3 and 1/2 years during my undergrad degree. If you are looking for a quiet, modestly priced, all in one establishment then this is the place to go.Protip: Security patrols from 8pm-1am Thursday night through Saturday night. Use this information to plan your parties accordingly ;)Pros:- All inclusive rent. You pay 460 a month for rent, electric, water, internet, and cable.- Units are well insulated. I rarely heard more than a few bumps above or below me. You can only hear your roomies if they are being very loud to begin with.- Pop 105 has three buses that run up to highlands. If you have a 9am class then you can expect a buss at 7:55am, 8am, 8:05am, 8:25am, 8:30am, and 8:35am (give or take a few minutes). If you wait till the last two busses then it is usually crowded because most people wait to the last minute.- If something goes wrong with your unit maintenance will normally resolve the issue within 48hrs if not sooner. During my stay they replaced two microwaves and our washer and dryer. This did not cost us any money.- Parking is not as bad as other reviews make it out to be. Guest parking is limited to one night Sun-Thur and anytime Friday/Saturday. Guests can use the one weekday night along with the weekend days to stay Thur-Sat night or Fri-Sun night without hassle.- The pool and hottub are well kept and relaxing. Its not the biggest pool you will come across but it serves its purpose well.- There is a dedicated spot to wash and vacuum your car. Its normally empty and available to use.- There is a provided area for your trash. Its a small walk from any of the apartments to the dumpster.Cons:- Tight noise policy. If youre loud enough to be heard from outside on the sidewalk then you will be getting a knock from security. You get three-four warnings before fines start to roll in for the entire apartment. Make sure to wrangle your louder roommates.- Pool guest policy is 1 guest per tenant. If you have a lot of people over, you can only take one per roommate.- If you come home late at night, be prepared to park further out away from your apartment. There is ample parking but most people are home by 9pm and fill up the best spots.- Dont leave anything on your front porch. The lease agreement is very specific on what you can have out there but we never bothered. I got a warning one time for having a small apple sized pumpkin outside behind a pole.Enjoy your stay at Appalachian State University!
