Sam and JD were our guides and they are so knowledgeable and friendly. We all learned how to fly fish and everyone caught rainbow and brown spotted trout. The guides make everything so easy that we all felt comfortable we all learned a great deal. Sam and JD are awesome. What really sets Elk Creek Outfitters apart is their attention to the little but big details. We had a hot lunch (crab cakes) that was phenomenal. Went with Connor of ECO for a full day trout float on the Watauga. He is by far the best guide I have ever gone with. He is to put you on the fish as you would expect from an experienced guide. A trip with him is more than that. His enthusiasm, optimism, and overall personality means it is going to be a good day even the fish aren’t biting. From what I hear the other guides are getting trained by Connor so I would expect he same from them as well.

My friends and I have fly fished with Elk Creek guides on the South Holston and the Watauga rivers for many years and have never been disappointed (we have never been skunked.). The guides are very familiar with the rivers and the fish and know the right flies and the proper presentations to use. Each of the guides we have used and especially Connor Honea (who is part owner of ECO) have been personable, accommodating and skilled. Their knowledge of the rivers, the fish, and the entomology whether wading or boating is excellent. Besides greatly enjoying the fly fishing for trout (and Elk Creek will book trips for other species and types of fishing as well), we have really appreciated the humor and friendliness of the guides.

Outstanding experience fishing with Connor and Sam with Elk Creek Outfitters. First class in clear, upfront communication on the details of our trip to the on the water experience fishing for small mouth and trout. Recommend an overnight trip. Cant wait to do it again!

I had the pleasure of fishing with ECO this past week. I thought I knew how to small mouth fish, but Conner Honnea really opened my eyes to some new tactics I had never even considered. When things got a little slow, he’d mix it up, and we were right back into the fish. I’ve been with a lot of guides in a lot of rivers, but Conner is truly 2nd to none. Booked a full day and fished the Holston Proper River just north of Kingsport 8/7/20. Sam, smallmouth bass guide was great and very knowledgeable. Threw several different lures and hooked up with a lot nice size smallies! 5 stars for sure!

I am an avid fly fishing junkie. In that past few years I have had the sacred opportunity to heavily endulge in guided fly fishing trips across the US in salt and fresh waters. I hesiyantly have to say I experienced my best trip with Elk Creek Outfitters... Specificly with guide Conner Honea. Conner is a highly experienced guide with an A++ personality. What a fantastic experience! My hesitation to post this is that I will loose access to his availability.
