Im not sure what half of the reviewers problems are, maybe overly sensitive? The staff members were busy and working diligently to clean cars when I arrived to pick up my rental. I had a short wait but not nearly as long as other companies Ive rented from locally. Its not the most lavishly decorated place but remember that youre in Boardman, OH, not Pepper Pike. Yes, you will have to park your crummy car in a gravel parking lot if someone doesnt drop you off but its a far better option than driving 40min to an airport to pay to park (or park at the Youngstown airport for free). Acceptable rental rates, clean vehicle, pleasant & hardworking staff, no-hassle on any aspects... what else do people really need from a car rental location?

Do NOT rent from this location. They dont have cars that you get reserved if youre 1 minute late. They dont accommodate their mistakes and even if cars are sitting there, they dont care. This is the absolute worst Hertz location and pretty good indicator of why the company is going bankrupt.

I rented from Hertz while my personal vehicle was being repaired. My insurance company had some questions for Hertz and when they called, they were told that they couldnt discuss anything with them. They wouldnt work with my insurance company at all, so I had to keep calling Hert and then the insurance company to get the information. There was a dirty mask left in the center console, Im assuming from the person who had the car before me. So, for the 3 weeks that I had the rental I couldnt use the center console (I wasnt going to touch someones used mask). Also, the car had a very strange, unpleasant smell to it. I ended up buying some air freshener to cover up the odor.

A rental car was setup online and I was given a time to pick up the car. Went to pick up the car and the gal working said she didn’t have a car for me and basically it wasn’t her fault because the rental was setup online. She wasn’t rude, but her customer service could definitely use a little help. Needless to say, I called up enterprise and walked a few blocks to get the truck I needed. I personally would never go back to this Hertz.

Car air freshener horribly strong, nauseating. The smell would end up on my clothes, had to take a shower to get it off completely. Gave the rep a chance to make it right at drop off, she said “I didn’t smell anything.” Thanks, I will probably go to Enterprise down the street next time and I’ll tell my friends to do the same.

Molly at Hertz needs extra training and people skills. Prepaid for a L size vehicle, got there the day of pickup and was told they didnt have one and she tried to get me into a step below L. I told her no I needed an L, he response was the class below was all she had and there were none other available. She never once said I will refund you the difference that you paid since all I have is the class below. I said so will you refund me and her response was I could have a voucher for my next rental. I said no I want the car I paid for and said your telling me there are no other rental stores around that have it, she looked and said I would have to drive to warren to get the vehicle. Before driving she asked about insurance and I have insurance and she said ya but I dont know that they will cover a rental, she convinced me that I needed it. Never once said I didnt or that my insurance covers it. I drove 30 mins to warren to get it. I told the woman there I didnt believe I needed it and she said you dont its additional and I asked for it to be removed, she said no problem and tried and said actually Molly will have to remove it. I called Molly and she tried and put me on hold for 10 mins and said you will have to call Hertz and they can remove it. I called Hertz and the man I spoke to said no problem I will remove it and the said well you werent charged it actually but if it pops up just call and we will remove it for you. Now Im being told I cant. I will NEVER rent a car from Hertz again.!! Molly needs extra training on how to speak to her customers. I should have been told that I would receive a refund if I took the lower class car, she never told me the insurance was additional to what I already have. Hertz will not get rid of me this easy. I promise you that. DONT EVER RENT A CAR FROM THEM!

The car I received had a horrible smell and I had to personally purchase an air freshener to make the car able to be drive-able.In addition it was also out of wiper fluid, so that also had to be added to the vehicle.* When returning the vehicle I was reimbursed for the fluid.*The staff was very helpful in dealing with my insurance company and helped to make things right. I am very appreciative of their help.

Did online reservation, no problem getting the car; it was ready when I arrived. Car was fine, exactly what we needed, under 8000 miles, clean, got a slight discount using AAA which paid part of the satellite radio option. On a long trip, satellite was a good choice. The car also had Hertz GPS, worked better than expected; easy to use.

They do not tell you on the web site that you have to pass a credit check in order to rent there cars, even if you pay in advance for the rental online. Once getting to the dealership the women in the office was 100% rude as hell and acted like it was a crime cause my credit wouldnt pass the check. They also will not issue a refund the day that you find out that you cant rent from them, you have to wait 5 days. After waiting 5 days I had to call in again to let them know the car was never picked up and now I have to wait another 3 to 5 days for them to issue the refund from the corporate headquarters . Absolutely ridiculous! Never had any problems with any other company! Never will rent from them!

This place is very unprofessional, from the greeting threw the door. Very dry interaction with client. I had called the Business before arrival. I talked to a man named Brandon. He told me that it will cost $232 for the week rental. When I get to the business they told me that the price went up because I didnt make a reservation at that time on the phone . And that Brandon wasnt there. So they told us that they were going to put 500 and some dollars on hold and we questioned him why 500 when I was quoted something else. Then the price changed again to 460 some dollars and that it would be placed on a pending hold . Next thing you know they pulled the money out of our account. When they said they wouldnt do that it was just going to be pending. I dont remember the two peoples names that were there helping us because they were irrelevant . And obviously not knowledgeable their self . When my mother called up there to question About their actions. They were very rude and when my mother said I wish we did and rent from you if enterprise did not go up $60 we wouldve rented from them. She also told them that she was going to post a poor review. And they continued to tell her they wish they did and rent a car to her! I should have listen to all the reviews that people posted. Because everything that was said was true. Terrible experience!!!

Do yourself a favor and go to enterprise.. the customer service here is HORRIBLE and they dont care.. I told them they are pretty rude for a business and I shouldve listened to the reviews, Ill be writing one of my own.. He said, go ahead ,so here it is! Ive seen where they always take extra money off of peoples cards as well I havent returned my car yet but if they do that Ill update!!

Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else, even if you have to pay more. The worst level of service I have ever received. A parking lot full of vehicles and I was told none for rent. I should have placed a reservation but it was short notice and I figured I would go over and talk in person. Even though the website showed many vehicles available. Their response, the website is normally wrong.

Customer service was excellent and the car was superb. They gave me a very clean car with satellite radio. Perfect for my long two week trip. The cost was half of what enterprise was charging for a two week trip.

They closed early and we couldnt return our car because there is no after hours drop off. They closed at 4p.m. on a Friday. We had to drive to another Hertz location an hour away. They were very unhelpful even though we called at 3:50 saying we were a few minutes away.

Very poor customer support, very poor service, and lastly they hide things online within fine print and now I am out 300$ and ruined my vacation. Thanks Hertz for quite litterly ruining my vacation and robbing us blind. I hope everyone reads how horrible your policies are. Maybe you should consider doing credit checks online like normal people you money hungry cheapskates.

Good luck trying to get a hold of someone to take your reservation! I was assigned to the Boardman, Ohio Hertz by my insurance company. When I called to arrange the pickup I was placed on hold for so long that I was hung up on! So I called back and spoke to Brian, (who placed me on hold the first time) I was understanding that he was busy since he explained he was the only person working, so I asked if there was a better time I should call since my need was not immediate. He offered to take my name and number and call me back. I waited four business days for Brian to not be busy and call me back. I finally called again only to be placed on hold AGAIN! I hung up and called my insurance company and had them reassign me to an Enterprise. Hertz, you lost my business!!

Pretty pissed off at hertz our credit card was charged weeks after we returned our rental for a toll bridge there was not suppose to be charge on. Hertz then charges a $25 fee to charge your card for the toll. Way to kick people when there down hertz. The bridge says no charge this direction. And went around on the way home so why the hell were we charged? Renting from hertz hurts.

1 Star Rating all around. The car I received was fine, albeit a little dirty. The service was absolutely terrible. They didn’t offer a shuttle service nor offered to pay for an Uber as my insurance company instructed. Whatever, that’s fine. I get there and the front desk clerk was immediately annoyed that I was there when they opened (I had to go to work). She offered me a “Convienient Gas Fill Up” and after I declined (I hadn’t planned on using an entire tank of fuel) she hands me the key to the car and doesn’t say a word. Never explained how long I had it for. No “have a nice day.” Nothing. When I returned it, again, no shuttle because the guy was “the only one working” (which was a lie). I didn’t get a receipt even after I repeated my email 3 times (they wouldn’t just print one for me). To top it all off, a few days later I log into my checking account and they charged me for the “Convienient Gas Fill Up” I had initially denied. So, I call to have it reversed because I returned the car with a FULL TANK OF GAS and they transferred me from department to department. Finally, State Farm stepped in and called their corporate number to have it reversed. If you’re even thinking of using Hertz, do yourself a favor and find the nearest Enterprise.

They try to give you a more expensive car even though you rent a lower price. They do not update what cars the offer... Thats being lazy and unprofessional on my opinion .

I made a reservation online, paid & had a confirmation- so when I went to pick up my rental and was told I was on a do not rent list, I was a little perturbed. The desk attendant wrote down a number & told me I had to call. I was quite put off that she could not call to work the issue out as her job is customer service. When I called the number, the lady took my drivers license number then put me on hold for 5min. She asked me who Victor was, I do not know a Victor & she asked if I had issues with indentity theft. After more time on hold, she informed me that there were 6 rentals against my drivers license which she would have to remove one by one. I was on the phone for nearly 11min. She removed the DNR. I went back into the office to finalize my rental & the desk attendant did not apologize for the inconvenience, nor did she offer anything for the issue, even after I asked- she said there was nothing she could do but she never tried. She was also put off when my mother in law pointed out that the tire pressure looked low in one of the tires & asked when the car was last serviced. She reluctantly took it to check the tire pressure. When she brought it back over, she did not give the car a once over with me, she did not go over car details (gas release, car features, check for a spare)- she just said ok, youre ready & walked back into the office. It wasnt until I got on the highway that I found out there wasnt even cruise control! That should 100% be something that is noted in the car description- I am taking a trip to NC! Also, if there was a DNR on my info- I shouldve been contacted or at the very least, not been able to make the reservation in the 1st place. I am extremely dissatisfied with the entire experience. I will not rent from Hertz again.

Reservation, pickup and dropoff went well. Car was an Altima, that was a little weak in the steering. It wandered a bit at freeway speeds and the car was dirty. Other than that, 35 mpg, all was convenient and price was good.

Starting from beginning to end the people working there are rude, cold and do not know how to welcome and treat customers. The cars are not cleaned before pick up, trash, smoke everything is in there. The maintenance notification is ON all the time on the dashboard, check battery light ON several times during my trip. Overused cars. They dont tell you in detail how much they are charging for each, unless we ask. No refund for the gas left in the car, but they do charge the next customer with prepay option !Horrible customer service.

Watched the clerk sit behind the counter (with her ear buds in) and a manager sit in his office as they did NOTHING for an older lady with her wheelchair bound mother. The car, rented from a Columbus Hertz, was leaking gas and these 2 buffoons told this lady they couldnt help.Customer had to call Columbus for a tow truck, which would not come until the fire dept responded, and then sit and wait. The firefighter helped get the wheelchair bound women into the building out of the heat.WORST customer service EVER!!

I rented a vehicle from this location intending to keep the vehicle for about 1 month, and was treated very poorly.The car was dirty inside and out and contained other peoples trash. The low fuel light was on, and tires needed air.They had originally had my name wrong on the agreement and when I called to correct it they said there was nothing they could do, so I had to drive back down to them to get it sorted.Although the tank was empty and fuel light on, they noted on the agreement that the tank was full.Whenever I brought these concerns to their attention they always answered I can sort it out when I return the vehicle, knowing it was being returned to another location!Where possible avoid using this location. The staff have absolutely no customer skills or pride in their work.

Initial pickup experience was not an issue. However, at this time there is no drop off box available for after hours return which is inconvenient. The vehicle I rented was dirty inside and out, with other peoples trash still inside. Upon return the wait was unreasonable and when I told the rep about my issues he never acknowledged by complaint. Needless to say I will not be a future customer!

Not happy. Gave my son a car with a maintenance light on. When he questioned it they told him it needed an oil change and to take it anyway. They have no one sea how long we’ll have the vehicle as his car is in for repairs. Not acceptable
