This is a hockey pro shop! The staff and the owner are fantastic to work with. Best help you will find around. Been coming here for awhile for this and that. What the shop lacks in aesthetics is made up by selection and knowledge of hockey equipment. Johnstons skate and hockey is an essential part of our local community. The owner can teach you more about hockey equipment in one visit than by spending hours at the rink. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. This small business has a wealth of expertise and supports our local hockey community. If its not in the shop they can probably order it for you. Please support this local business.

Such a wonderful place to get fitted for skates. Great selection of hockey equipment. We were treated with such kindness and were given such thorough attention. We enjoyed the equipment education too.

Helped me get my kids sized and fitted for their first pairs of hockey skates. Very nice guy with a cool shop! (You have to go through a nondescript door and vestibule to get there)

Literally go here if you want some actual skates, dude will hook you up, theyre all supper nice, ive literally never given a review before on a shop but this is one of those that deserves some recognition at least from my one experience

An incredible place for hockey and figure skating equipment. A Bloomington IL institution in my opinion. Owner will take incredible time to adjust in whatever way possible.

The owner, Mr. Johnston, is a very strange man but you would be hard pressed to find someone better at what he does in Illinois. Even in the entire Midwest, you’d have a hard time finding a better hockey shop owner. Once you get to know him, he is one of the most helpful people on the planet in terms of hockey equipment.

In addition to kids stuff, I like Johnstons because they have a nice selection of adult gear for me. They have plenty of sticks ranging from the best to cheaper ones and usually a couple at blowout prices. Dont be in a rush because theres usually only one person there, but you can get great service and advice from the owner Scott. They also do skate repair including replacing blade holders, blades, rivets, etc. And their skate sharpening is quality and consistent. I patronize them whenever I can because we need to keep these local shops around.

We drive here from Springfield to buy our gear. We have two sons, a squirt and a pee wee. In their words: this is the greatest hockey store in the world! In my view: Id rather support a person who actually shakes hands with his customers and tosses a roll of free hockey tape to two very excited little boys when they are leaving his store with their arms full of sticks, skates, and helmets. We wont just come back, we wont go anywhere else!

Very professional & knowledgeable staff. The store even has a shoe molder for skate boots, which improves the experience of the skater. My daughter enjoyed the use of her skates all the way to a first place skating competition win! The premium cost of skates is worth it.

Most disturbing experience I have ever had. The man I spoke with who I assume was the owner began asking me completely inappropriate and unwarranted questions about my personal life and toddler who was thankfully not with me at the time. He was rude and intrusive and refused to sell me anything unless my son was with me. I had a gut feeling something was off and I really needed to just get out of there .I will not take my son there for anything nor will I ever be going back myself .I can find a much better shop elsewhere. I would not suggest taking your children there.

Really great personnel. Got my boys and myself fitted for skates. Very patient and informative.

Got my new skates fit for my feet with their ice skate heat molding machine. Took about 25 minutes and now custom for my feet. Great customer service and super friendly and knowledgeable! Will be coming back again

If youre a player, you can find some ok mid-level stuff here with prices what youd expect from a mom n pop shop. Especially for youth. If youre a goalie, dont waste your time. They dont really have anything. Make the drive to Chicago/St. Louis if you want to try it on. The place was also a mess. Most of the stock was hung up, but there was a significant amount just thrown wherever. The little bit of goalie stock they did have was thrown in a pile in the back.
