Great staff and very friendly, I picked up my new fur babies. GBHS made it easy and I can say enough great things about my experience with them.

Went for my 3rd adoption in 6 1/2 years..... Very friendly staff that makes the adoption process a breeze. I wish I could find all these animals a home.

I wish my work load wasnt so intense so I didnt have to return this sweet baby! His name is Nel, and unfortunately I live alone with no other pets or kids for him to interact with so I had to return him. But i have no doubt the wonderful staff there will take great care of him and the others until they find their forever homes.

I have had bad and good experience with them. I live in a rural area and I have dogs. And I have neighbors that dont like dogs. So she calls the police to report my dogs all most every month. I have had Gracy 9 years and Hero 4 years. And they had pick them up once. But I got them back. But last month Hero went missing and when I call about him they where very nice. But my son found him in the wood in the wood. I love dogs! I believe they provide a needed service.

GBHS was very helpful when I wanted to adopt a kitten. This bundle of joy, pictured below, is Hela. You can fill out an application for adoption online, visit the animal you would like to adopt and finish the paperwork at the shelter. It is quite a simple process and the staff is professional, polite and helpful. The shelter is clean and seems to be well managed. The animals at the shelter were clean, fed and healthy. I just had Hela checked out by the vet I use regularly and she is healthy. The adoption fee is $25 & I think that is a deal considering Hela was up to date on vaccinations, spayed, chipped and came with her complete medical history. GBHS also includes a wellness check certificate good for a free wellness check at participating (VCA) vets in with the adoption paperwork. Overall a very good experience adopting through this shelter.

I know they get tired of getting calls about my dog, I have had a lot of trouble with keeping her from wondering the neighborhood. Once she tastes a little freedom to roam, she darts everytime. Thank you guys for your love and patience with her AND ME!

Great experience adopting. I went there a few times With my grandchildren to pick out a new kitten. They always have plenty of choices. What impressed me the most though was the staff was very naughty was very knowledgeable and quite helpful. Also it was clean. Because they have so many animals they were running a special for cat for cats or dogs which could call ahead of time to get in is which could call I had a time to get information.Plenty of parking too.

I went to the jasper location, the staff was amazing and helpful. They take great care of the animals. My vet was so impressed with the care the puppy I got had already received from the humane society.

Everyone is so nice and so helpful. They are all so gentle and caring with the animals. Very welcoming environment!

The employees are very kind and helpful. I wish I couldve adopted all the animals but I dont have that kind of space. But I would recommend adopting. Im not telling you that you have to do it here but there are so many animals that need their forever home.

Best present ever !!!! We adopted Jasmine and Kristoff one year ago. It had been over a year that our beloved rescue Brownie gain her wings. I browsed for some time trying to decide if I could love another adorable garden assistant. My husband was not ready. And frankly I had to admit I wasnt either. I vowed I would never ever have another furry friend. The pain of letting go and the emptiness was at time to great. After lots of tears and thought, I saw Jasmine. I wanted to adopt her. So my husband agree to go be the Greater Human Society to see her in person. I was at work and did not want to go to meet Jasmine as I knew with all the adorable and homeless animals, I would love to take them all. He being the stronger of the two, ventured off to interview Jasmine. Shortly, after I begain to get alert on my cellphone. Pictures!!! What? Wait! Thats not a picture of Jasmine!! Who is this brown fluffy tail dog... Next picture is of my husband and Kristoff. Wait a minute. We agree we would like to adopt a female pup/dog. This is not her, its him. So no decision was made on that day. The next day I was off and we decided to go together. I meet with Kristoff first. His fur was soooo soft and that tail. But, I needed to see if Jasmine was still available. Yeah!!! We interacted with each pup separelty. And then we went outside to see how they would interact with each other. Well, that fit so perfectly, it was meant to be. So we gave both their forever home. The adoption was two weeks before Christmas. After the holiday, I was taking the decorations down and notice Brownies ornament that we had for 16 years was of 2 dogs with Christmas hats, one brown the other white.

Such loving people at this place. Very nice selection. If you want a pet this is the best route to go. They take care of these animals very well.

I got my cat Travis Scott Nathaniel Reed from here. He was already spayed, neutered and had his shots. The total coat forme was $15-$25. He was such a sweetie and so smart! He passed in 2018.I have another cat now named Beans.

I’ve been supporting them monthly now for almost 2 years ( I did this bc my late mother had a heart for rescue and stray dogs) the older I get the more I realize my Mom was right , why buy when you can adopt ! My Greta is 4 and I adopted her 4 years ago , she is by far the healthiest of my dogs bc she’s mixed breed!This place recently was able to respond to a crisis where a Breeder had loads of sick dogs in horrible condition ! They sent two trucks immediately and were back in Bham to meet other rescue teams to get these precious dogs to vets ASAP ! I get these updates bc I’m a “ constant companion “ which is only saying I donate monthly ! (Please consider being a “constant companion”)We are blessed to have a good humane society and I am proud to be a supporter ! I started thinking I’d do it a year to honor my Moms memory, but I see the important work they do and now I’ll support them for life !This is a nice clean well run rescue !

The staff was very helpful and wanted to make sure I got matched with a companion that was a good fit for both of us. They really go out of their way to make sure aftercare is successful. I couldnt be happier with the adoption process and my home is so much happier with my new friend there. I would have given 6 stars but 5 is as high as it goes.

The bham humane society,have been great to help with getting the neighborhood stray cats spayed or neutered, and to also respond to calls about stray Pitt bulls roaming neighborhood.I am greatful we have them in Tarrant.

I just find the surrender/adopted another pet policy which u have to wait 90 days before u can adopt another after u surrender a dog who a issues with cat or small animals. So when u go to adopte be sure get the pets background history before a adopted one. Just the head up , it not 30 days anymore it 90 days.

They helped me surrender a puppy that I couldnt physically take care of. I hope she finds a great home with a yard. Shes a sweet lab mix. I rescued her but had no way to care for her long term. I only wish I could be told how she is doing from time to time.

Dont take what you are told about your pick of pet as truthful and expect that you are getting is a sick animal. Be prepared to spend money at the vet.

This place is very nice and clean. The staff was very nice to me even though they were very busy. The puppy I adopted looked well taken care of and healthy. I am very happy and would recommend anyone looking to adopt to check them out.

I adopted a 2 year old mix who has turned out to be the best dog Ive ever had. We go back occasionally to the gift store and Bonnie has never been scared to go back, she loves it and the people. That was almost 4 years ago and even though I live in another city now, I would go back there if I decide to get another pet. #adoptdontshop

This shelter is amazing! I was impressed how clean the place is and how well animals are taken care of. You can tell that everyone loves animals here. Also, the perfect place to foster!

Front desk folks were nice but they sent me around back with these orphaned kitties I found and an employee I talked to back there was cold and uncaring. Not what you would expect from the Humane Society.

Well organized, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Very clean. Got out first dog there. All immunizations were done for the whole year, dog was fixed, had a chip in case she gets lost. First vet appointment is free. Very happy.

This place is. always amazingly clean. The staff and volunteers love all of the pets who come here to be adopted. All of the pets are happy and very well cared for. There is nothing at all negative about this place or its loving and faithful people.

Adopted our beautiful dog there 8 years ago.

They would only help me with my sick dog if I got him from them. I can not afford to take him to the vet and he acts sick...I just wanted to know if they could check him out for me to give me some peace of mind.

Excellent Experience! We have been discussing and researching pets for some time.Day one - We saw a dog we were interested in, and I called to see if it had been adopted.Day-2 with application in hand, we showed up at the shelter as they opened. We were greeted as we entered, and the place was humming. There was a featured dog, a beautiful female, but she was a barker, and we didnt need a loud doggie. We asked about the dog we were interested in. He was still available, I handed over the application, went to the designated meeting room, and we were soon all together. He had a horrible kennel cough and upper respiratory infection. My husband and he bonded quickly. We decided to move forward. The dog was neutered and microchipped. We left with lots of information after paying for our new family member. They gave us a leash, collar and meds for five days for th cough and infection. Today is day 4, and his cough is gone. He hasnt wheezed all day. We were told if he was NOT better to bring him back. Since youre required to take him to a vet within a week, we thought wed handle it.Hes 3 yrs old, and we are learning each other. Its sad all these animals have no homes. If you can, adopt a shelter animal and the love you will receive is immeasurable. I WILL work with GBHS again.

Everyone is really nice and accommodating. If you have to sit for a long time, there are several nice areas and a super cute little gift shop. A huge selection of dogs and cats and a few other exotic pets. Every one up for adoption is listed on their site before the doors open. So u can get an idea of who you wanna meet. The cat areas are fun to go in and play with the kitties. I cant believe it took me so many years to go there. I would have been adopting pets a long time ago if Id know how friendly and open and welcoming it was there. It was a long wait but for a new extension to our family its totally worth it.

This place is amazing!!! We adopted our German Shepherd, Titan from them. He was heartworm positive, but is no longer. We have had him about 3 years now. He is the smartest, most loyal dog we have ever had.

This was my 1st visit to a shelter and I was very impressed. Everything was so neat and clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. I did not find the right puppy dog to be a forever home to on this visit. I do intend to go back frequently untill I find the perfect fit for my home. I drove 30 minutes to see about adopting a particular cat & was told I couldn’t adopt the cat because I had another cat in the home. Was told this cat doesn’t do well with other cats. This WAS NOT listed on their website so they still denied the adoption Needless to say I am TICKED!!!

Ive been here before but never rated it. My favorite place to get a fuzzy companion, the staff are always nice and do their best to answer questions that you might have. You can tell they all really care about the animals and are as thorough as they can be. This is my first pet I have adopted on my own and my first cat, thank you guys for helping me give her a forever home. 💕

The humane society is the place to adopt a cat or a dog. You follow the paw prints on Snow Drive. Once you enter the building and sign in you tell them what you’re looking for upon being greeted by a friendly face. The organization is impeccable. There are many rooms where you can find cats and dogs and rabbits and other animals. You wander around in the rooms to find an animal or animals you would like to adopt. Once you return to the main desk and tell them that pets name, you get the opportunity to have time with your pet or pets to see if it is a match for you and your family. After you have found the perfect pet and your family is all excited you return back to that main desk, where you tell them that you would like to give that pet a forever home.I have adopted many animals from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and I have been nothing more than pleased. If you were looking for a pet I would recommend you go there and find your forever furry friend.

As a foster and adopter from GBHS, I have had a wonderful experience in both capacities. Stopped by looking for a dog. Staff was very helpful in helping you choose a pet. In short, we found a new family member! The staff were helpful with giving background on her and making the process as easy as possible. You could see they really care for the animals.

I appreciate the fact that the staff is understanding when it comes to retrieving your pet. They will aid you in anyway possible.

Easy process, healthy pets!

They are doing such a great job of safely rehoming the animals right now. Finding our match and adopting was super easy since we were able to apply online and making an appointment was super easy too!

A few months back I got a kitten from there, very very helpful and everything in letting me know everything they knew about him. It was a great get and I think the staff for the care that they give these animals.

They came not long after I called them to pick up some cats...

What a clean, lovely facility. Caring and awesome staff working to give all these wonderful fur babies a home. We will always choose to visit this establishment. They even have a gift shop! Best of all military families adopt for free.

We adopted an adorable kitten a few years ago. Its a great place and the staff is great!

My second pet I adopted here. They live longer lives. The care they received from the staff until their forever homes are ready are excellent.

We were very disappointed that when we got there on Sunday that they were no longer doing adoptions due to cov19. And also we were not able to get in touch with anyone we had been calling since Friday trying to look into adopting hit but could not get anyone on the phone so we decided to just come in and that didnt work either because theyre answering service has not been upgraded to let people know their hours of operation only good that came out of it that it was a young lady there to let me know all of this information and now we have to try and wait this week or over into next weekend if we still decide to adopt.

We adopted our furry kids from here 2 from 14 yrs ago and one few days ago. Always a good experience.

This is the most cleanest well kept humane society Ive ever been in. if I was a animal thats were I would wanting to hang out if I didnt have a home. And the staff was so helpful abs they have a temperature machine right there before you go in to make sure your not sick

Friendly staff, and animals seem all healthy and well taken care of. Extras and bonus items for pet such as shots and things like that, that are sually taken care of before time of adoption or you get some voucher or whatever to get anything that isnt done,done for free, like free vet visit,spay, etc as well as coupons for petsmart and alot more

My first two cats came from here, 16 years ago. Today, however, the place is a death trap. At least when the city pound ran Animal Control, it didnt pretend to be anything other than a city pound. This one has slick p.r. and brings in $2.5 million annually in charitable and public funds, but their records show that most of the animals admitted there die. If you can adopt to save one or more, great. Dont donate money, though.

Adoption saves lives. The building is super clean, smells good, and the employees are delightful.

I recently adopted my new best friend Marlee (Stormy to GBHS) and she has been the best decision ever! I adopted her on “clear the shelters” day, back in August. Even though several people, ahead of me, had wanted “Stormy”, thankfully I was able to adopt her. She’s been such a blessing to our family. I highly recommend going there, even if it’s just to donate supplies, they’ll show you great care.
