A few months ago we adopted Bob and mindy. Bob and Mindy are two adorable loving cats. Bob had been there one for a year and Mindy for 6 months. They were very obviously well taken care of. When we got them home they have been nothing but a joy for us! I highly recommend adopting here. If you dont have a cat and you are looking to get one I also recommend finding two that get along in the kennel and adopting them both at the same time. That has made all the difference. They keep each other company, they keep each other clean, and you can see that they clearly love each other. I have seen another post that they remark on the smell. Yes when you first walk in, there is a pretty strong odor. I worked at one of the cleanest vet clinics in town and let me tell you, in the back where they keep the animals it smells the exact same way. The place is very clean, from what I was able to see, the smell with that many animals in a small space is unavoidable unfortunately.

I have had a very good experience when ever I have dealt with the shelter. I have fostered 2 cats. The first has been adopted and the 2nd is still with me...forever. She has some special issues and was unable to let her go. The shelter has been awesome anytime I have had questions or concerns. I was there to drop off a large bag of kitten food. They recently got to work to find that 17 cats had been left. Most of them kittens. Its not unusual to have animals just left at night. I would like to see people be more responsible and if you cant keep them at least do it in person, give the staff information about them and not just abandon them.

My partner and I adopted Squirrel in January 2021, and our little gal is the sweetest cuddle-bug we could ever hope for: she loves scratches, snacks, and her Pickle buddy (pictured). She came home to us with no health problems. The Help for Homeless Pets team was helpful and supportive during our adoption, even setting us up with a homecoming goodie bag of treats and toys that helped our furry pal quickly acclimate to her new environment. Cant imagine life without this sweetheart, and I highly recommend Help for Homeless Pets!

I adopted two wonderful kittens from this place. We were not told upon adoption that our kittens were sick and being treated for an upper respiratory disease and getting in contact to acquire treatment from the shelter was really difficult. They said they can do the treatments but they are not getting back to us. Our kittens also came home with ringworm- we were not told and again can’t get in contact to have treatment taken care of when they said multiple times they could. Bad business.

We are driving from Denver to Livingston for our wedding and found two strays at a gas station. One of the strays neck was cut open and infected, it looked like from a collar. Being from out of town we had no idea where to go. Help for homeless pets was the first place that popped up when we googled and I couldn’t be happier. We called and they said to bring them right over. We had to drive an hour which put us there as they were closing. She took one look at the puppy with the neck and called the vet. She brought them to the vet on an emergency since they had also just closed. She didn’t ask us for a donation even after bringing her two sick dogs. I can’t say enough great things about the people that work here. Support them in anyway you can!

Super easy to stop in and visit the animals if youre interested in adoption! I called ahead to verify hours and came by to see a dog that a friend from 5 hours away is interested in adopting. I was able to play with the dog and video chat with the prospective adopter so they could get to see the dog outside of the website, the staff was incredibly helpful throughout ❤

If you can do it donate your time to help with the animals or bedding, blankets cat or dog beds bags of dry dog and cat food anything you can do to keep this shelter going....by the way Ladybug..now known as Baby girl is 12 years old now ...she was 1 year old when I got her and had come out of California with a load of other dogs that had been put on Death row because no one wanted them. They dont get government or city assistance and they accept all pets in need. I adopted my pup not even a month ago and have had nothing but health issues with the poor guy. He had kennel cough and a bacterial infection on top of that (the place is filthy). Two other people I know adopted cats and found out they have pneumonia. I understand rescuing animals has its risks, but for the $350 I was charged for this dog, and the $475 the guy in there with me was charged for his, you would think they would be able to come home healthy. The fees here for adopting are outrageous... with fees like that they should all be able to get checked at a vet first and treated for issues appropriately. At least YVAS doesn’t send animals home with their new family until they have a clean bill of health. I love love my dog, just disappointed. I am scared to post this because I don’t want the current animals to not get adopted, but people should be aware of these issues.

We found a pet at PetSmart that we wanted to adopt and were directed here to fill out paperwork. Unfortunately no one here was wearing a mask. There was a line of folks waiting to fill out adoption paperwork in a small room, no masks, and no option to fill out paperwork in my car or online. I also received some unkind looks while wearing my mask. Its too bad, there would be one less homeless pet today if folks could follow simple public health directives.

Would not recommend this place to anybody. Horrible conditions for any animal, yet alone a human to be around. Adopted an animal from them in the past, and the animal ended up having parvo and passed away. Tried adopting from them again, and this poor animal was sick, and according to the vet I took him to, was sick for a very long time. So they adopted out a sick animal knowingly of the conditions. Not to mention the prices are extremely high. Staff is very rude. Almost all of the vets in town I have spoke with want this shelter shut down due to the amount of sick animals that come from this place. Stay far far away!

Thought she had something caught in her throat, nothing. After a night stay in the vet, and no answers, she went home, fine. Just puking like she was since they adopted her. They were waiting to do blood work (just had an emergency trip that had dad out of work for almost a month)Last night, bella was having some issues breathing. They gave her some Albuterol. She was fine. Dad gave her more when he was leaving for work (about 6am)I got a text from my mom about 8 this morning, saying she just found bella, dead. They got her the middle of July, 2020 They adopted a healthy, young dog. My cat was neutered incorrectly & dumped into a pen, in pain, with NO pain meds! When we got him, his rear was caked in dried blood & he was so sick he refused to eat. We took him to our vet who had to re-do his neuter correctly AND treat him for the upper respiratory infection he picked up while in Hell for Homeless Pets care. We had to quarantine him from our other cats & force feed him for over 2 weeks before he started eating on his own. The vet bills were several hundred dollars. It was worth it because he is happy & healthy now & we love him beyond measure. But I do not recommend this place for any pet unless you are prepared to deal with more problems than any other adoption center in this area. However, maybe these pets are the ones who need you the most! Get then out of there!

Ive heard not good things about this place, so I decided to check it out myself. I walked in and was greeted by staff and Im assuming a volunteer. Very polite. Was also greeted by a sweet pup they called Zombie. Right off the bat I noticed the place was cluttered and smelled like kitty box. Doesnt bug me a whole lot . I checked out the cats, all seemed to be in good health and just had their boxes scooped. Most kitties came up to their gates for some pets. Hand sanitizer was provided. Next was the dogs. All seemed to be in good health and just acted like normal dogs. They did have some extremely cute and sweet puppies.I personally believe this place has great potential and that they actually do care about the animals they rescue. However, I do think that they need more donations in order to stay on top of things. There werent multiple dogs in cages (minus the puppies) and conditions werent filthy and disgusting. I just think this place needs more help than people offer

These people grabbed my dogs two blocks away from my house at midnight when I was calling for and looking for them. My dogs hadnt been out for very long and they always come back. I found this place when I was driving around looking for my dogs the next day. The inside was dirty and cramped and my dogs had been locked in a nasty cage for at least 12 hours. Then the lady in charge tried to charge me $130 to get my dogs back. They threatened to keep them if I didnt pay. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and just needed to get out of there so they got the $47 I had on me. This is a scam. This place is supposed to be a nonprofit that takes lost animals to the Yellowstone valley shelter, instead they steal local pets and extort their owners. Listen to their voicemail and never give them money, they should not even exist. I am livid!

Its so easy to pass judgment without offering an alternative or solution and the truth is these volunteers do everything they can for these sweet animals but dont have all the time in the world nor are they unkind enough to turn an animal away. We choose our cat from this location several years ago! They were honest about every characteristic for every animal in the shelter. We love and adore our “bridger” he is an amazing part of our family! We have read some reviews and decided that the negative comments were based on ignoring what the shelter stated about the animal. Not the pets fault or the shelters fault! We can’t thank them enough for saving our bridgers life and bring him into ours! Absolutely horrible! My husband went there to adopt a kitten since we had recently lost one of our cats. He was told that the kitten had been treated for ringworm three weeks prior but that the current bumps he had were due to either rough housing with the other cats or stress from the shelter. I was concerned and brought him to the vet the next day to have the bumps looked at. Turned out it is ringworm. Now one of my dogs has broken out into ringworm and we still have three other pets to watch for. We have to give the animals dips daily and I have to vacuum the floors and clean the furniture daily. Not too mention the laundry and anything that can be cleaned that could contain ringworm spores. While it is treatable it is extremely stubborn to treat and extremely contagious to both animals and people. I worked in a shelter for over 7 years and we would NEVER have adopted out an animal that we knew had ringworm. They knowingly gave us a cat they knew had a contagious skin condition. I am beyond upset and will NEVER use or recommend this shelter ever!
